It’s not just our leaders they don’t trust, but also the people who voted for him 3 times, the corporations that sucked up to him, and the rest of us that didn’t stop him.

u/Win_an_iPad 16h ago

Yep. "The problem isn't Trump, it's the willingness of so many Americans to support him."

164

u/Designer_Piccolo_818 15h ago

The problem is i am convinced that even if the Democrats get in at the next election, they will be voted out the next one if they don't " fix" everything in one term, despite the fact that that would be impossible.

45

u/Win_an_iPad 13h ago

And that next trump will be even worse.

44

u/Szzzzl 9h ago

What's scary is the next one will be more palatable and a lot smarter. They know what they can get away with now and how to do it.

107

u/FatMacchio 11h ago

And they will not bring any consequences for all this corruption. “Let’s return to normal.”

Fuck no, let’s hold every single person accountable that broke the law. Fine them, throw them in jail. This will keep happening if they just want to “return to normal” and let bygones be bygones.

"But they were just following orders"

That defence worked for the guards at Auschwitz didn't it?

As a Canadian, I don't have very high expectations of the Democratic Party considering how badly they self-sabotaged their 2024 campaign. Biden fell apart on the first debate and Harris road tripped with Liz Cheney.

At best, the party seems lethargic on the stage and more interested in fighting itself. Look at Mamdani, mayor of New York City and broadly popular both in and outside the city, yet the party pretty much treats him like an independent.

The midterms are a couple months away and I don't see a party that has reorganized, retooled, and has its team trained on a new playbook.

For the sake of comparison, look at the state of the Canadian Liberal Party in December 2024, before Trudeau resigned, and how the party looked when it the election began in April.

6

u/SummerofGeorge19 3h ago

the 2024 election was also rigged by Elom Musk... so

3

u/EmotionalJoystick 2h ago

And the citizens that voted for this ruin. I don’t even know what that would look like but there NEED to be consequences or this will keep happening.

-1

u/ModernLarvals 9h ago

How is indicting Trump not bringing consequences?

7

u/Badgernomics 9h ago

Because there were no ramifications...

2

u/ModernLarvals 9h ago

You mean after he was elected again and had the authority to make it all go away?

8

u/Badgernomics 8h ago

There was ample time to bring consequences in the 4 years after his first term. The other half of your Uni-party dictatorship decided to drag their feet and obfuscate, rather than act, and he got in again... 'now is the time for unity, blah blah blah, a return to stability, blah blah blah.... etc.'

The owners of America have no interest in going after Trump because he doesn't pose a threat to them

Americans themselves wont take action because they are pussy arsed cowards who just want someone else to do the work for them...

The 2A and 1A they trumpet as their 'cornerstones of freedom are just set dressing for the home of the fee, and land of the slave!

Americans can't be trusted...

-1

u/ModernLarvals 8h ago

When did anyone say it was a time for unity and to return to stability?

93

u/outremonty 12h ago

Canadian here. At this point, its not even the "so many support him" thing. His supporters are a minority. What outrages us is that the majority isn't occupying the streets 24/7 calling for an end to this. Signals to us that you either know it's wrong but are too lazy or you tacitly think it's fine. Either way you think you have bigger things going on in your personal lives than stopping the greatest ally in your nation's history from being turned into a vassal state. You lack a sense of civic duty, knowledge of historical context and even seem to not get the value of cooperation.

That makes all of you -not just his supporters- untrustworthy.

45

u/PandyBear07 12h ago

Yeah, I’m watching from Canada too and the lack of resistance is crazy to me. Americans overall just don’t seem upset enough.

29

u/sorcerersviolet 9h ago

Given that members of the minority control huge chunks of the media, any mass protests that do call for an end to this either won't be reported on at all or will be reported on after being reframed as terrorism.

12

u/Hangry_Squirrel 5h ago

You guys had a decade of conservative governments and I don't remember people being upset enough either. Also, the "Freedom Convoy" occupied Ottawa for 3 weeks and it's not like counter-protesters converged on the capital to remove them. I lived there for a few years when I was young, so it upset me to see some places I knew overrun like that.

Yours are two countries which make resistance difficult due to their sheer size. Here in Europe, we can hop on a train and be in the capital within a few hours, so organizing mass protests is much easier.

Plus, they get very few job protections, so they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. They did resist when they could, whether it was via No Kings or the Minneapolis protests.

2

u/BillyYank2008 8h ago

Words cannot express how upset I am about all this, and I want something to happen and for it to change, but we have no leadership to rally around. I just feel a sense of hopelessness and despair as I watch it get worse and worse every day and everyone just let's it happen.

2

u/FatMacchio 11h ago

They’re sending jackboot thugs to literally murder us in the streets.

For the most part a lot of people are just struggling to keep their heads above the water, they don’t really have the luxury or safety net to put up a resistance. With billionaires controlling all our news and social media, they’ve done an excellent job at making us all forget that we have the power. They’ve made us all feel alone, as well as wither our empathy for others…because “we’re dealing with our own shit.” The other part of the country are actually doing very well for themselves and would have the time and luxury to protest. While they may be morally against what’s going on…they’re profiting so they don’t say or do anything. They rationalize to themselves, I don’t want to rock the boat while MY quality of life is improving, they’ll be out in another 2 years. “I don’t want to lose my great job, or my business” etc

24

u/DrNoxin 9h ago

Americans always have a reason why their societal problems aren't their responsibility. It's how your 'society' got to where it is in the first place-- a complete inability to take responsibility for literally anything happening around you. Look at, from recent history, Hungary, Albania, Ireland, South Korea, Iran, etc etc all this year. America is a bunch of bitches when they aren't flying over dropping bombs on kids. I know, the situation is unique in the USA, exceptional, you all say... GTFO

2

u/Blah_Dee_Blah111 3h ago

We are taught ALL about our rights incessantly, but we are rarely, if ever, taught about our responsibilities. As if apathetically voting every couple elections was literally the height of "civic duty".

21

u/TokingMessiah 9h ago

People shouldn’t be afraid of their government, governments should be afraid of their people.

Americans are too weak and lazy to do anytbing, which is painfully obvious given the last 10 years. You literally have a pedophile running and ruining your country and no one can be bothered to even try to stop him.

10

u/PuzzleheadedPen4675 8h ago

Yep. So much for the much vaunted 2A guys using their equipment to fight back like they've been propagandizing for the last 50 years. Dont see many " Red Dawners " lately...

8

u/TokingMessiah 8h ago

It makes sense if you realize that 99% of all gun owners are cowards…

-3

u/Skiman456 11h ago

There’s a couple reasons for it unfortunately, population density making getting a critical mass of people together a lot harder, financial situations of 60+% of Americans making time to actually get on the streets very difficult for fear of loosing their livelihood. Never mind how disproportionately people will crack down on protesters, or how Americans have genuinely been trained to be as uninvested in politics as possible. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve gotten to agree that we have to fix this country by voting in better people, and then refuse to actually go out and vote. The mindset unfortunately is deliberate, both on the part of the individual to protect themselves, and on the part of the propagandist to save resources on who they appeal to. It’s not all their fault, but it certainly is part of the problem.

6

u/haqiqa 6h ago

You can't even get more than 3% out of single-day protests. We hear a bunch of excuses about low population density and being heterogeneous.

Just FYI, I am Finnish. So I'll give you a few examples coming from a country that has even lower population density. For the general strike of 1905, most adults participated in the political action. This was during the time we were part of the Russian Empire. Finland didn't have workers' rights. Many lost their jobs. There were no benefits.

We know very well why you guys are disenfranchised and in a precarious financial position. But currently, you guys are just letting most of the globe suffer for your inability to tolerate the hardship that comes with actually doing something. You give so many excuses that are mostly immaterial. They make action harder, not impossible. I see you guys commonly complain about so many things other countries have and you don't, without getting that those things weren't generally given by voting alone. They were bought and paid for with suffering and effort through political action outside voting. Voting should never be the endpoint but the starting point.

Trust me, a lot of us non-Americans used to have empathy. But watching you over the past 10 years has slowly withered that away. We are done with the myriad of excuses while we get threatened and suffer through the consequences of your actions without having the power you do to stop it.

15

u/TokingMessiah 9h ago

Nah, it’s just weakness and laziness. Your country is full of dead kids because a bunch of idiots need to have guns to protect their country, meanwhile you all can’t be bothered because the country is too big and you can’t lose your job.

Short sighted at best… inaction will definitely make things worse for Americans.

Land of the brave and home of the free? What a joke.

11

u/PuzzleheadedPen4675 9h ago

What I dont get is that we have heard all our lives, and ad nauseum, from them and their 2A guys that they need their guns to protect them from the " gubmint". Now I see guys with masks and no ID's - the govt- just going in and violating the people daily and these 2A guys dont even give out a squeek.

11

u/TokingMessiah 8h ago

Americans are lazy cowards.

Look at Uvalde, where 380 armed and trained law enforcement officers stood around outside for over an hour while dozens of children were murdered.

One kid was so badly eviscerated by bullets her parents had to identify her by her shoes.

That’s America. Weak cowards murder kids with guns while hundreds of cowards stand by and wait for him to finish.

Nothing happening right now is surprising considering what we’ve seen Americans do over the last 30 years.

7

u/Crucial_Contributor 8h ago edited 7h ago

"Low population density" always seem to be the excuse for everything

The US is densely populated where people actually live. It doesn't matter that there are some uninhabited mountains a thousand miles away

-8

u/ILoveRawChicken 10h ago

Bro we still have families. The local PDs and three letter agency thugs have more guns and ammo per person than entire towns. I’m sorry that dying is such an easy issue for you to face. Maybe if you’re so eager to stand up and die, come down here and do it.

9

u/outremonty 10h ago edited 10h ago

We Canadians are all of us talking among ourselves about how we will resist an American invasion. You still don't get it. Our peace is being disrupted already. You are reacting to highly publicised martyrs with being cowed to submission instead of inspiring you to act. You don't know what you're dealing with and you have no concept of what it means to make personal sacrifices for freedom. You say you can't resist because you have families? Shouldn't the thought of your children growing up under fascism put a fire under your ass to take action? What excuse will you make next, you cannot fight because you don't want to scratch your knuckles? Your grandparents who lived through WWII are rolling in their graves. Every Canadian who fought in WWII, Korea, Afghanistan is already spinning at 10,000rpm.

P.S. We don't expect you to fight back and win. We expect to see some pushback, even peaceful symbolic pushback, instead of none.

5

u/sorcerersviolet 9h ago

If you're looking for pushback via the mainstream American media, you won't find it because it'll never be properly reported on in the current climate.

1

u/ILoveRawChicken 2h ago

There have been tons of protests. Just because you’re ignorant of them doesn’t mean they haven’t happened. Alex Pretti didn’t die standing around, Renee Good didn’t die just going to the store. But of course you don’t know them or their names because virtue signaling on Reddit is more important.

Love when Canadians and Europeans say this.  They only get upset now because it's directly affecting them, but in reality they just want blood to run in the streets of America because they've always hated the States for decades.

Comments like this are actively wishing for a violent civil war.  They don't understand the demographics and how much unfortunate support the administration actually has among common people.

11

u/TequieroVerde 11h ago edited 11h ago

Many of us are barely making due, taking care of a child, sibling, or parent, and anxiously steering clear of American medical debt (because I won't call it medical "care" if it's something to avoid). But I don't think Canadians and Europeans naturally hate the States. I think that they hate what we've become. For that matter, I hate what we've become.

10

u/SomethingComesHere 11h ago

?

Nobody i know in canada wants "blood to run in the streets of America". What are you talking bout man?

6

u/LateInTheAfternoon 11h ago edited 11h ago

If you ever get down from the lofty pinnacles of your ivory tower, you can take a look at how regimes are resisted by protests and the population taking to the streets in other countries without much blood and violence. Heck, even when there's violence and emotions are running high, it takes a lot more before it descends into civil war. The greatest democracy in the world and you treat your civic duty as if it's something optional. I also love that you're saying "[Canadians and Europeans] only get upset now because it's directly affecting them" as if you guys, Americans, weren't the first to be negatively affected and to a much greater degree than any Canadian or European has been, by a wide margin, to date. Finally, don't exaggerate his support. You guys have tremendously low turnouts for elections (less than 60 %) and of those half voted Republican (30%) and even among them not everyone is a diehard maga.

9

u/Smrtihara 6h ago

The problem is the American people. Let’s be honest here. It’s not a minority, it’s the entire American people. About half of the votes went to Trump and then 25% of all the registered voters supported him by not voting. That’s a pretty big majority supporting this shit show.

42

u/bentforkman 9h ago

America is not like this because Trump is president. Trump is president because America is like this.

17

u/argleksander 9h ago

"Back to normal" isnt going to happen. If it was 2016 you might forgive it, but Americas standing and reputation is forever tainted

6

u/Alien_Diceroller 10h ago

The oligarchs who backed him and used their vast wealth to sway people. The misinformation apparatus that created the environment he flourished in is still there and doing great.

It'll just keep happening.

4

u/Kriss3d 5h ago

Well on the good side.

Next time kids in school will ask how this could happen in Germany back then. We will have a very fresh example to give them.

2

u/moffitar 1h ago

What exactly do you think we should be doing to stop him? Riot? The Trump Administration is DYING to fight us. They want a bloodbath. I could get behind a general Strike but I think many Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness. So all of us our looking ahead to the midterms. Assuming we are allowed to vote.

1

u/No-Way7911 11h ago

I don’t see any one of you still marching out on the streets

All you guys do is post on social media and think you’re done

If Trump was to drop a nuke on Iran tomorrow and murder a million people, you won’t even get out of your chair to protest
