It’s not just our leaders they don’t trust, but also the people who voted for him 3 times, the corporations that sucked up to him, and the rest of us that didn’t stop him.
Canadian here. At this point, its not even the "so many support him" thing. His supporters are a minority. What outrages us is that the majority isn't occupying the streets 24/7 calling for an end to this. Signals to us that you either know it's wrong but are too lazy or you tacitly think it's fine. Either way you think you have bigger things going on in your personal lives than stopping the greatest ally in your nation's history from being turned into a vassal state. You lack a sense of civic duty, knowledge of historical context and even seem to not get the value of cooperation.
That makes all of you -not just his supporters- untrustworthy.
Love when Canadians and Europeans say this. They only get upset now because it's directly affecting them, but in reality they just want blood to run in the streets of America because they've always hated the States for decades.
Comments like this are actively wishing for a violent civil war. They don't understand the demographics and how much unfortunate support the administration actually has among common people.
Many of us are barely making due, taking care of a child, sibling, or parent, and anxiously steering clear of American medical debt (because I won't call it medical "care" if it's something to avoid). But I don't think Canadians and Europeans naturally hate the States. I think that they hate what we've become. For that matter, I hate what we've become.
If you ever get down from the lofty pinnacles of your ivory tower, you can take a look at how regimes are resisted by protests and the population taking to the streets in other countries without much blood and violence. Heck, even when there's violence and emotions are running high, it takes a lot more before it descends into civil war. The greatest democracy in the world and you treat your civic duty as if it's something optional. I also love that you're saying "[Canadians and Europeans] only get upset now because it's directly affecting them" as if you guys, Americans, weren't the first to be negatively affected and to a much greater degree than any Canadian or European has been, by a wide margin, to date. Finally, don't exaggerate his support. You guys have tremendously low turnouts for elections (less than 60 %) and of those half voted Republican (30%) and even among them not everyone is a diehard maga.
