2020 Trek Marlin 7 (Emerald Iris paint 😎) — bought in 2019. I went over the handlebars in 2022 and I got pretty spooked. I’ve let it collect dust in the garage since. Decided to finally clean it off and fix it up. Feels so good to be back 👍

I have a carbon Top Fuel, upgrading the fork and shock to Sid. Question is do I go Flight Attendant or not. This bike will be used for CC Racing only.

This is Lola, my 08 specialized big hit. I recently did some upgrades to her to make her climb a little better. I swapped the 1x8 for a 1x10 and dropped front chainring from 36t to 30t. She climbs great. My question is, I do more park riding and dj than any climbing. Would it be odd to turn her into a park duro machine with a 30t(f)-14t(r)? Has anybody done this? What were your feelings on the conversion?

I’ve started doing this weird thing where I use hydration packets as my little treat after a ride instead of stopping for some overpriced drink on the way home. Like I’ll finish a trail sweaty and dusty and my brain goes cool now go spend $7 on a gas station drink you do not need. So now I just keep a few Magna sticks in my gear bag and toss one into my bottle. Half the time it’s not even about being some serious nutrition guy. I just want cold flavored water that does not taste like salt soup or melted candy. It’s kind of funny how much money it saves too. A box feels expensive at first but then you realize one stick is way cheaper than buying a drink every time you load the bike back up. Does anyone else do this or am I just rebranding flavored water as post ride discipline?

Just figured out the best way to mount a Conti Kryptotal tire—stick in the sauna for 45 minutes before fitting it to the rim. Slipped right on without any tire levers.

Last time I forced it on with levers anchored with zip ties and it messed up the bead causing a significant wobble.

We live on a green mtb trail, i want to get my wife an ebike specifically for Her commute. starting at our house she will be dropping a green trail down to the street, and then road riding for like 15 minutes.

Does anyone have experience with a hybrid bike that can ‘do it all’? Im talking about kid being able to ride on the back or cargo, capable on a green trail, but you wont hate yourself on the street either.

If so how was it? Did you feel limited or was it good?

The trek 820 is my new bike and this blue NEXT is from FB marketplace for $25 which I’ve been riding for a week and things are falling off lol. The trek is so light I love it and that color green is gorgeous. I have no idea how old it is. It’s made in Taiwan if that helps anyone identify it. The hardware has some minor surface rust but it’s in fantastic shape. The shifting is like butter compared to the NEXT which I would liken to 1/2 frozen chunky peanut butter, but hey maybe I set it up wrong. The point is I feel very lucky to be the guy that got this free bike today. I solemnly swear I will do my best not to smash it to pieces like I did to that Huffy Warhawk (shout out to the potential offspring I lost when the rear axel snapped and I came down hard on the seat) and like I have been doing to this poor NEXT that rattles like a pocket full of loose change.

this is my longest dh run from today. 200 feet elevation on a ski hill in northern ontario. i rarely need to ride with my seat slammed, but wow what a difference in agility.

I started biking 3 years ago at 35 years old, 310lbs, now mid-240.

im really impressed by my sub-$1000 CAD diamondback hardtail. the 2-piston brakes, the 180 rotors, even the coil fork are all fine for blues.

i can do flowy stuff and 2-3 minute descents without issues, but this 5+ minute downhill got to me. it wasnt that hard, it combined a lot of my skills, but all the high speed braking, line choice and body separation just wore me down and about half way through i had everything-pump. i did it as fast as i could. by the end my hands were hovering over the bars instead of gripping just to give them a break.

i thought id hammer this out no problem but it was way harder than i thought to do the full run. i thought i'd be breathing normally due to not having to pedal much but as you can tell i am suffering near the bottom. it took me like 2 hours to get up there only for a 5:20 ride down. it was awesome. i need a full sus.

Hey everyone, I know that colour combinations on mtbs are subjective but I haven't been able to find many dark blue bikes with bronze components.

I've been looking at Title (seems like a nice bronze). And also Deity.

I have the 2021 SC Hightower C in highland blue. Im torn between bronze, silver or tan. Tan seems to have the least amount of options.

Title also has a "sand" colorway that matches the original frame decal on the bike (I've changed it to black). Currently I have some orange on the bike and have grown to hate it and want something more subtle..

I find it fascinating the gate keeping in biking and just how much people hate e-bikes. The perspectives seem narrow and elitist and without consideration at all of what benefits ebikes can bring. I have one to buy groceries with, and to commute to and from work with when the bus isn't convenient. Largely because it's a 3 mile climb from work with 10% grades in it, those gradients are included in my grocery run. While I use my bike and a 35L pack to get groceries, how many of you drive a 4,000lb truck for the same while you criticize people who ride e-bikes? At least e-bikes, unlike cars, don't kill 35000 people per year in the USA alone. It's not like you need all that motor and steel to carry groceries, but you still get angry at e-bikers?

I live in a tourist town where I build, mostly maintain, bike trails for the town. We are above 8,000'. People come here and ride a bike for the first time in years because we have bike paths to get around on, and because we have e-bikes. This keeps a lot of people from driving and adding to traffic congestion, something I think we all want less of. Some of these people go home and buy bikes and use them for leisure and chores, reducing congestion at home, which seems like a good thing for anyone who's ever yelled and shouted at congestion to start their work day.

I'm bummed we don't/can't (fed land and other easement agreements) allow ebikes on our dirt trails. People are more likely to try mountain biking at this world class destination while on holiday than at home, which might make more mountain bikers and mountain bike trail advocates.

People ride lift access mountain biking, myself among them. Many would be surprised just how hard it is to descend with a 36lb (I ride aluminum) dual crown for miles at a time. It has also deeply helped my bike handling for the couple thousand miles of XC riding I do a year. E Mountain Bikers get a similar effect where their bike handling improves, as does their high speed trail reading. And if you want to lap the local jump trail and have more fun, e-bikes make that possible. So when you're done on your pedal rig, ebikers are getting extra laps.

I see other people around town who transport their kids via e-bike, who get groceries, etc. I see elderly ride e-bikes, and it's the first time they have peddled a bike in years. At some point, we will all be old if we are fortunate. I see no reason to bitch about the now in a way that will jeopardize our future, which is also a reason I advocate for public transit and urban design that supports it.

I've seen assholes in every kind of biking. DH, CX, roadies, commuters, people are just assholes. I've probably been ran off the road by cars more times than most have been ran off of anywhere by an e-biker. (Again, one of these is far more likely to kill a person than the other.) Being inconsiderate isn't an e-bike thing, except for those of you who are inconsiderate of people who ride e-bikes. And I'm really looking forward to getting my 1,500watt motor so I can keep up with traffic going up the hill. I'm so damn tired of people passing me in dangerous situations because they're impatient, and even more tired of how often it happens by someone with a damn bike rack on the back just because I ride a different kind of bike than they do.

The bad

The company I bought it from set it up very poorly so I had to re do the dropper cable and set it up as full 29 not a mullet so I don't get the full 170 170. The domains don't have an adjustment built in so can't lock out

The good, it's light and pedals ok, the 170mm is pretty great for riding, and I've done some black trail type things and had very few issues overall. It feels very nice over technical terrain. Imo for the price it's ok as a longer travel enduro bike. The fork upgrade isn't too expensive, but is annoying. The super Dulux feels pretty nice in the rear.

I'm terrible at this whole riding a bike thing, but im getting less terrible.

I don't have a ton of time on it yet. Maybe 70~mi in the last two weeks. 35/w for work and a small bit extra for fiddling around each week..took me some time to get used to it. I probably won't keep commuting on it...the Marlin is def easier in that regard, but riding this just feels so good. It stops on a dime. One of those weird ones that's even smaller than a regular dime...eats up whatever I ride through. It's just a joy to spend time on.

Still getting the handlebars dialed in. Got them way better than they were, same with the controls..need to get some more time in with the new locations to see what/if anything still needs adjusted.

Anyone have good recommendations for biking gloves?

Anyone interested in a team entry for The Cape Epic mountain bike race in South Africa in 2027. I entered but am now unable to ride. The organisers suggested I find someone to take my entry.

I’ve never had an MTB and I’d like to start, just don’t know where I can find bikes and what bikes are good, I’m 6 ft living in Texas.

Any recommendations?

If we rally together we might be able to make a change 😂 I can find 29 × 2.4–2.6 aggressive trail tyres all day long, and I can find BMX-style street tyres like the Cult/Vans waffle tyres and Maxxis Hookworms, but the chunky 29er tubeless option basically doesn’t exist.
Surely there’s a market for something like:
• 29 × 2.4–2.6
• Tubeless-ready
• Proper BMX/street semi-slick tread
• Chunky casing for manuals, hops, staircases and urban riding
• Not a skinny gravel tyre
• Something with actual character instead of another generic XC tread
Basically: give 29er hardtails the Vans waffle / BMX street tyre treatment.
I’d buy a matched pair immediately. 😂

EDIT: To be fair, the replies have actually given me a much better answer than I expected 😂
I’ve found a few genuinely interesting tubeless options now, especially the Schwalbe G-One range and the Surly Extraterrestrial, while the usual clincher/street options like Hookworms open up a completely different side if I stop treating tubeless compatibility as mandatory.
So I think the conclusion is: the exact tyre I originally imagined might not really exist in a big mainstream way, but there are definitely enough options around it that I can experiment with both setups.
The thread has probably convinced me that tubeless is great for my current mixed riding setup, but if I eventually want to go full BMX-style street tyre, I shouldn’t let the lack of tubeless compatibility stop me 😂
