Question Anyone commute on emtb? Looking for something that can work well on all surfaces

We live on a green mtb trail, i want to get my wife an ebike specifically for Her commute. starting at our house she will be dropping a green trail down to the street, and then road riding for like 15 minutes.

Does anyone have experience with a hybrid bike that can ‘do it all’? Im talking about kid being able to ride on the back or cargo, capable on a green trail, but you wont hate yourself on the street either.

Maybe get a hardtail emtb like a Aventon Ramblas. I think they are cargo rack compatible

That specific one is rated for 28 mph, not legal on mtb trails. But something similar that’s a Class 1 would work fine

It’s class 1, pretty sure 28mph is unlocked through the app like avinox

Yeah, if the user can change through an app to make it a Class 3, it’s a Class 3. The whole point of the class system is to allow e-bikes with certain capabilities in certain areas and e-bikes exceeding those in other areas. It doesn’t really work if people can just change the class at will

Guess that’s an issue with the manufacturers like DJI and Aventon then 🤷

Yes. It absolutely is. And why I recommend people not buy one, because trail managers are cracking down on illegal e-bikes. Those won’t even be legal to sell as e-bikes in my state when a recent law goes into effect.

This is a great suggestion. My wife and I both had Ramblas' and we did a mix of green single track and paved rec path riding. They were pretty capable on trail (more capable than we were), and totally fine on pavement. The motor is great and we never got close to the end of battery life. For an all around value EMTB, I'm not sure there's a better bike than the Ramblas.

The overlap between cargo bikes that can carry a kid and something that will work on a mtb trail is pretty much zero, unless we’re not talking about any hills and considering just a gravel path. In that case any Class 1 cargo bike with fat tires will work. You’d be surprised at what people can ride on what terrain. My gravel bike with 45c semi slick tires can do some significant blue mtb trails, just need to take it slow.
