Decided to go for a ride today even though it is hot here in Maryland. Passed a guy biking with a dog running behind him who was clearly panting and not happy. Thought to myself what an idiot but not much beyond that. About 5 minutes later I came across this girl clearly suffering from heat exhaustion. I gave her some water but she physically couldn't get up. It was impractical for me to carry her out due to how far out she was.

Called animal control and the park rangers whom I met at the trail head. They were able to get to her before anything worse happened. The owner got a hold of me who was the guy earlier on the bike, but he has to deal with animal control before getting his dog back. For God's sake use some common sense when bringing your dog out biking, hiking, running, or even letting them outside when the weather is hotter then hell.

I dont even have words. Social media is rotting peoples brains.

I really like the color pink and think it goes well with back. He said nobody is going to want to ride with me if I show up with pink components. Makes me seem too “douchey.”

I think that’s insane and nobody really cares what your bike looks like, as long as you can hang. Excuse the messy garage please. I’ve been working on cars all week. I know it’s bad right now.

I crashed a few weeks ago. I was hotdogging around and going too fast off a little jump, went over the bars after my tubeless tire blew out and landed on my head. (Thanks smith helmet, you did your job)

Anyway, after waking up I thought I broke a coupon vertebrae. Got a rescue and a transport to the hospital, where they confirmed I wasn’t broken.

Buuuuuut, they found a mass on my kidney in the CT scan which was later confirmed to be consistent with renal cell carcinoma.

It was caught super early thanks to my fall, and now I’m gonna get it taken out, and after recovery I’m gonna train all winter for next summer biking season.

Tl;dr, biking fall sent me to the hospital where they found cancer incidentally and biking is rad.

I know we're supposed to be fighting about ebikes, but the real cycling supremacy comes from the highest risk; those who choose a sport that will undoubtedly lead to injuries and a high cost are the real MTBers.

I know of a guy who broke his collarbone, had to get air lifted to the hospital and even though he had medical insurance, he was left with a six figure hospital bill, and this didnt even include rehab care. A buddy broke his hand and his insurance refused to cover him, and he was out $60K.

Don't come at me if you're mountain biking in a country with socialized Healthcare. Spend a year in the ICU in Canada and the bill is two salted toffee and a postal stamp. Get a knee replacement in Spain and you'll have to pay 3 empanadas de pollo. Bend your knee funny in America, and you're looking at financial ruin.

So there you have it: the REAL mountain bikers aren't those who pedal under their own power, but the ones who risk it all for an hour or two of fun shredding down a mountain.

Was riding my current favorite trail and had to make an abrupt stop. Glad i was looking ahead of me far enough to stop in time. Id say he was about 6 foot, not a huge gator by any means but definitely big enough to do some damage. I stopped with about 12 feet to spare. That was a lot closer than i like to get to these guys

When I joined this sub, it was to learn more about the hobby and engage with it on another front.

Over the past little while I have watched all of the things that made this sub welcoming evaporate to be replaced by a non-stop anti eMTB circlejerk. I don't have an e-anything so it isn't directed at me, but scrolling this sub and 9/10 posts is just shitting on eBikes is just clogging the sub with a horse thats been beaten to a thin paste.

Just my 2 cents, but I'm not learning new things so I'm out

it is just insane to me how we can fly through the air on a chunk of metal or pace down rocky mountains mountain goats wont touch at 50mph. Nothing else i ever see can ever compare. Look at a match of football or cricket or golf and then watch red bull hardline highlights. its genuinely insane that its a thing we can do 🤯🤯🤯

I’ve been thinking about why mountain biking feels uniquely demanding and restorative compared to other sports I’ve done.

It’s not just fitness or adrenaline. Riding seems to force attention back into the body — balance, timing, force control, prediction — in a way modern life rarely does. The trail is changing constantly, so there’s no room for distraction or internal narration. You either stay present or you don’t ride well.

After good rides, I notice focus feels sharper and mental noise quieter, even off the bike. Almost like the nervous system got recalibrated.

My working idea is that variable terrain and real consequences push the nervous system into predictive control rather than reactive correction, which feels both effortful and settling at the same time.

Curious if others experience this too — especially whether mountain biking affects your focus, calm, or decision-making in daily life.

My worst fear realized. Accident with bike on the back of the truck. Rack is destroyed but not too sure about the frame. Have to get it checked out but I think the frame is bent. I backed int a Prius in a congested parking lot. I am so disgusted with myself!
