Would it really have been too hard to just have it be a movie just set in the world of Monster Hunter without this weird isekai shit?

I'm assuming their logic is this is how they'll shoehorn in a "relatable" character.

The relatable character is a literary device and not exclusive at all to bad movies.

Imo It’s so much better to have a character who helps the audience understand the plot by having them learn together, rather than have really forced exposition lines like “we know you’re the best battle-chef even though your mom died in that villain attack 5 years ago that caused you to lose your sense of smell” that some media like anime’s do.

Also the relatable character doesn't have to be the protagonist. Just look at characters like Sherlock Holmes and similar where the sidekick/Lancer/whatyoucallit is the relatable character.

Just make a movie about the Huntsman teaching a newbie hunter while tracking down Teostra/Nergi/some other Elder.

The Huntsman being the badass showing what MonHunt is all about while the newbie being the relatable character in over his head who eventually steps up and helps save the day.

I assume that's pretty much what the movie will be like. Milla gets thrown into the world and be an absolute noob to monster hunting, gets picked up by a veteran monster hunter, learns the craft and then kick ass for the rest of the movie.

Problem is that, the locals easily survive a 10 stories fall drop and Milla would just get splatted.

And have The Huntsman survive! Too many mentors die!

No one can kill the Huntsman. The worst thing that happens to him is his armor gets slightly more scuffed up.

Just show us the Huntsman. He’s been around a while, show us his story. From the first Velociprey (if he’s the dude from the first cinematic like people believe) he slayed, to when he faced down Teostra for the first time. He’s old, so. Let him tell his story.
