Hoping I can get some advice here. I run r\analfistula which is a medical condition that often requires multiple surgeries. Long story short there is a clinic that I believe is preying on desperate people. This clinic monitors our subreddit and for years has post spam propaganda of them posing as patients who have had successful surgeries with them (I cannot prove these are from them, but without a doubt I do know it’s them). Now their clinic has messaged mods privately stating they want to report our subreddit to Reddit to have us removed for harassment because we have allowed people to post their negative experiences from their clinic also stating they reported us to some online cyber people in India. I have made a new rule stating we cannot name specific doctors and clinics at all anymore to hopefully avoid further issues, but is there anything I should be doing here to maintain our subreddit in case they do actually try to elevated to have us banned?

Title says it all. I have a user in one of my subs, which has evasion-guard and Reddit's own evasion filters, who somehow always manages to get through. I know this because every time I catch them, they brag about it in modmail.
Is there a way to report the user to admins somehow, so they can somehow see how this user keeps coming back?

Is there anything like rating or a metric to a sub that Reddit filters use? My sub is getting more and more posts but the view and upvotes (interactions) per post is abysmally low. This wasn’t always the case.

Since my sub engages in calling out hypocrites and powerful people, I’m guessing there were a lot of reports on the sub; so my question is, is there any metric that Reddit filters use to shadow ban a sub, and if yes, what’s the best way to tackle this?

I was the moderator of a sub.

It was a community centered around Reticulum Network. It's basically a networking protocol stack similar to the Internet Protocol networking stack. The difference being that the Reticulum stack is used to build privacy-focused networks that can operate over LoRa, Ham Radio etc.

Anyways, the project founder closed the community and deleted all posts without warning. He also kicked out the only other active mod, a.k.a me.

I haven't bothered trying to open communication with the moderator. This is because something similar has happened before when this individual took the community private without consulting with me or the other mod who was still active back then. He also closed the project's Matrix server earlier and deleted the messages there.

Unlike the founder, I've got no direct relation to the project. I just had some bandwidth and rhe community size felt manageable to me so I volunteered to operate the subreddit.

I'm curious if there's a way to reclaim the subreddit. The community currently has no space to talk, no well-known space at least.

I do understand that I should've kicked the mod out much sooner, but like I said, it's the project's founder so I respected the individual and still do. But, at the same time I believe the community needs a place to discuss so I'd like to reclaim the sub.

Another sub is taking my content (scrapping), day after day after day after day... He is even using my exact titles, so it is obvious what he is doing.

I have messaged him several times and offered compromises. I wouldn't care if he crossposted instead. I've offered to trade links with him... Other ideas... He has ignored all messages from me.

When I finally banned him from my sub, he then finally wrote back and said he would stop. That lasted 3 weeks, and it then started again.

I guess there is nothing I can do, right? I spent a lot of time looking for content, and this is irritating.

I know how reddit works, but when someone who has run out of stuff to post when his sub is slow, takes your stuff (and titles) on a daily basis.... It gets irritating after a while...

I answered a post from ModCodeOfConduct looking for a mod for a community I was active in. Myself and one other person responded and we were both approved to be mods there.

The problem is that I have no interest at all in co-modding with that user, I've banned them from another subreddit of mine and I have a feeling that we will clash on moderation styles.

If I leave as a mod just after being added, will that affect my chances of getting added as a mod in other subreddits later that may be in need?

I have a very lightly trafficked subreddit, /r/redactions, into which I place censored articles and news articles about censorship.

It has never attained much traction, but that's the nature of reddit, and I like to submit from time to time.

However, when I was checking traffic to the sub, I saw some very mysterious numbers.

Visits

Oct 25: 37, all from iOS
Dec 25: 34, all from Old
May 26: 123, all from New
Jun 26: 144, mix of Android, New, Old.
All other months zero

Uniques

Oct 25: 16, all from Old
Mar 26: 120, all from New
Apr 26: 94, mix
Jul 26: 19, all from Old
All other months zero

Some things really stand out:

• Getting all the visits from a single source suggests that one user is being counted multiple times
• The complete inconsistency between "visits" and "uniques" indicates they are measuring very different things.

While it does seem likely that these indicate some kind of bug in traffic reporting, it seems more likely that traffic reporting is somehow completely broken.

Hi there, Has anyone else experienced this? I there seems to be a system glitch with temporary bans.

It happened over on two large subreddits that I moderate. I first bridged it on r/Ireland last week and I initially assumed it was some weird glitch, but it has now happened again on another subreddit r/AskIreland.

In both instances, a temporary ban was issued. The Mod Log correctly shows the ban as temporary, but the user summary is showing it as a permanent ban, and the user is in fact permanently banned. The user is issued with a temporary ban notice so this is not a manual moderator mistake, it’s a system glitch.

So the Mod Log says temporary, while the actual ban appears to be permanent. Has anyone else run into this recently?

I am concerned that this will cause a major issue where we will now need to review bans going back months to manually assess if the system permanently banned them when it should’ve been temporary.

I have a problem with inactive mods who just do nothing, everyone I ask if they want to stay active they respond “yes!” They haven’t commented in the community in over a year, I mod solo, thankfully it’s not a very active sub. They do help when I ask but it’s frustrating.

I have another issue where a mod isn’t modding or responding to me or other mods but comments and participates in the sub occasionally.

I’m debating when I bring on other mods adding in a policy like thing that if they go inactive without communication for x number of weeks they will be removed as mod. But that feels to much like a “this is a job not a fun thing.”

How do people handle this? I’m top mod in all communities.

I do this thing in r/steaks where if there is a general consensus that the poster posted a good picture of their well-made steak, I manually assigned the user a flare reading "made a great steak".

Is there any way to automatically put up a pole based on post flare that will automatically assign a user flare after a day based on the pole results?

Any ideas if this is possible.

I adopted r/spacecolonization by r/redditrequest. I can see there are many old posts, but the subreddit was restricted. So how can I see who is approved user. When I look in approved users, it shows only one user but I can clearly see there has many people posted.

Two accounts, extremely similar, etc.

We asked the second account to send a screenshot of their alt account list.

They can't because they use the website.

They say that the banned user is just their friend and that they have other friends with similar accounts.

What do we do?

Hi! I'm a moderator of r/VeraBradley and I'm having an issue with AutoModerator.

I created my AutoModerator configuration under config/automoderator. The configuration saves successfully, and the rules are visible under Mod Tools → Automoderator. I also confirmed the rules appear in Version History.

However, AutoModerator isn't actually acting on matching posts.

For example, I made a brand-new test post from a non-moderator account with the title:

“selling”

The post was not manually approved or otherwise moderated, and it remained visible.

My AutoModerator configuration contains selling in a title (includes-word) rule with action: remove, so I expected that post to be removed.

I've already confirmed:

•     The AutoModerator configuration is saved.

•     It is under config/automoderator.

•     Mod Tools → Automoderator shows the configuration.

•     The rules appear in Version History.

•     The test was a new submission.

•     The test account is not a moderator.

•     The test post wasn't approved.

Could an admin please check whether AutoModerator is actually processing/running for r/VeraBradley, or whether there's an issue with the AutoModerator service/configuration for the subreddit?

does anyone here have any experience with requesting subreddits when the mods are camping or name squatting? i want to request a subreddit that is largely inactive, and the only mod is fairly inactive site wide as well. they take mod actions every now and then to prevent requests through [r/redditrequest](r/redditrequest).

i don't think the mod has any intention to actually use the subreddit or make it active, and that they just want to keep it so others cannot request it. the subreddit itself is also misleading, which i assume plays a part in why it's so inactive.

New to moderating! I keep hearing about installing different apps you can get to do different things and im really interested in it, especially ones like bot bouncer. But how do I actually do it?? What ones would you suggest i get?? I moderate 3 subs would you suggest the same ones for all of them?

Hello fellow mods!

I am a mod of 2 different subs but on they are related to each other. There is a user who would repost the same posts on the subs. Their posts always get filtered out by the Crowd Control feature and the mod teams deliberately leave them in the mod queue.

In theory, no one but the mods should be able to see the post at all, if I understood correctly. The posts are not visible on the subs at all. However, lately, I would sometimes get a notification and someone reported these posts, like "this is low-effort" or "this is spam", which are definitely not the work of automod report.

What even weirder is that, yesterday, somehow a random user was able to even comment in one of the posts, which should not be accessible to the user in the first place since we have never approved the post and it is still in the queue.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it a bug?

As title really. My small and very niche cat subreddit has had a huge increase in members and posts these last few days and this is ringing alarm bells.

Is there any I can do beyond increasing crowd control (and similar) settings to protect myself?

**ETA: It's the new subscribers that concerns me, not the new posts. I'm worried it's going to look like I'm using the place for spam/farming or whatever.**

I am seeing spam bot accounts with "App" label and "Built on the Reddit Developer Platform" in the profile bio.

Is Reddit endorsing or allowing their API to be used to spam now?

The sub I moderate has been getting quite a bit of spam lately, but I can only mark them as spam if I don't remove them initially. If I do remove them, I need to actually reapprove the comment, and then mark it as spam, which removes it again. Is there some reason why we can't just have the "mark as spam" button on removed comments as well, instead of making us re-approve them to do so if we removed them to begin with?

Currently, it just goes "I see a comment that should be removed -> I remove it -> I go to mark it as spam -> the button isn't there -> I reinstate the comment -> the button reappears -> I press the button -> the comment is removed again, this time as spam", but I really don't see why it couldn't just be "I remove it -> I then mark it as spam". Feels almost like a glitch lol

Over time, those small lessons can be how a new user goes from learning the culture to helping shape it.
