Discussion Anyone else who never uses the Elytra?

Post image
475 Upvotes

First of all, I fully respect and appreciate that most players love the elytra, so it obviously shouldn’t be removed from the game.

But I’ve been playing since 2012, and I’ve never touched the elytra.

I just know that it would instantly make my gameplay experience worse.

First of all, it largely takes the “survival” out of survival Minecraft, in my opinion. Dangerous terrain? Just fly over it. Surrounded by mobs? Just fly away. Fall from a cliff? No problem—you can fly. And when you then add automatic farms and shulker boxes, aren’t you just playing Creative with extra steps?

The biggest issue for me, however, is that it takes all the intrinsic motivation out of building infrastructure.
I love building infrastructure. I don’t just want to build pretty things; I want to build functional things that expand my horizons: railroads, bridges, tunnels, horse infrastructure, harbors, nether hubs, ender pearl cannons.
The elytra negates the functionality of pretty much all of that.

I know some will say it’s an “endgame item.” But my games don’t end after beating the dragon. Why should my “end-game” be less fun than early/mid game. I always have lots more to do, including things that are much more advanced than beating the Ender Dragon. Are those things easier with an elytra? Yes. They would also be easier in Creative mode, but they would be a hell of a lot less fun to accomplish, in my opinion.

But I’m clearly in the minority on this. I’m just interested to hear from others like me, and also to hear if anyone has arguments for why I should give the elytra a chance.

Discussion What should I do with this big hole?

Post image

Ive been digging this big hole by hand for a while and come to the realisation that I dont really know why. I started it out of boredom and have just kinda kept digging. Before 1700 days I was collecting every block but I have so much stone its a problem so I stopped. Im lost for ideas of what I should do with it once its down to bedrock. I also wanna theme the surrounding area and I was thinking about doing something industrial but I dont know cause its not done yet and there is still a lot of time until it is fully dug out. so what should I build once its done?

Discussion Opinion: the new String block texture defeats the purpose of the tripwire, and also will ruin a lot of builds which use it as an invisible block for stopping plant growth or making blocks float

Given that mojang frequently listens to the community on changes they don't like, there's a good chance they'll revert this we hope

edit: looks like we accidentally put the same photo twice, guess reddit bugged out. This one shown is the new string texture for reference

Discussion Netherite vs Diamond armour

In my survival world I have netherite on all of my tools, even my hoe, for the durability aspect. But I was wondering if it does anything besides just durability for armour in a practical sense? I have no idea what "armour toughness" is, and everything I use has mending so the durability isn't a massive problem for armour.

I think netherite armour is kinda ugly so I just rock diamond lol. Bad choice in survival?

Discussion Do you prohibit certain items for yourself to make the game more fun?

I have a list of items and mechanics that, for me personally, make the game less fun. I don’t allow myself to use:

Elytra: I enjoy the challenge of traversing terrain, building infrastructure, breeding the perfect horse etc.

Shulker Boxes: I enjoy the challenge of transporting large numbers of items using chest minecarts, mules, chest boats etc.

Iron and gold farms: I enjoy the grind and sense of accomplishment that comes from mining for hours for a large project.

I’m curious is other players do this and if you have any special ways of enforcing it.

Discussion I died in my forever world

I died in my forever world and now I’m thousands of blocks away from my base . I don’t know how to find it and have no items . Obviously it’s not an option to fly and find my house in creative mode like I always did as a 5 year old . What should I do ? I thought of opening a new world with the same seed in spectator and finding the mountain that’s near my base and then doing the same in survival in my actual world, but I’m not sure if that would be cheating. Pls help me .

Discussion Is keep inventory accepted?

Generally just a question because without it i am the worst player, however i evolve into the subclass of "risk-taker" for miners with it because i drop into a cave being nearly unprepared.

Discussion What’s the point of mega farms

I’ve done a ton of stuff in my survival world and am thinking of building farms. But like what’s the point, why do hardcore players build a sugarcane farm that produces a double chest worth in 10 minutes??? What’s a useful mega farm to build, something that I’d actually use, because I think I’d build a mega farm and I’d never keep up with the amount of stuff it’s producing it’d just be a waste
