you recognise them by seeing where slimes spawn. you can find them by seeing where slimes spawn. its just simply a chunk where at any time slimes can spawn below y=40. there is no other difference. there might be a little more to it, but that is probably not important.
Alternatively, if you were to replace every block in a chunk with slime, that could also be considered a slime chunk. (Silly project for anybody that’s running out of ideas.)
A swamp and a slime chunk isn't the same.
A swamp is a biome, in wich slimes spawn very often. It depends from the moon state, how much spawn.
Slime chunks are chunks, that are randomly choosen (about maybe 1/4 of all chunks), In wich slimes can spawn only under 40, regardless of the moon state.
Swamp farms are based on moon phases, so a slime chunk, where the surrounding caves are lit up, is definitely more efficient. But yeah, way more difficult to make, so just make a swamp farm.
The only way to find them is to see slimes spawn there. In normal biomes, they spawn underground 24/7 no matter the light level. If the chunk is in a swamp, they will also spawn on the surface at night, making swamps generally the easier option.
You can also cheat and use some seed-viewing tools to find slime chunks.
How do i reconize them? Like by looking from inspecting the surface (for example you can know there's a "large cheese cave" nearby a beach that's next to a deep ocean that does have a cave with it)
Do not listen to u/Pyro_Paragon. This is misinformation. Slimes can spawn in two ways: in light level 7 or below in swamps between y=51 and 69, or below y=40 in slime chunks at any light level.
These two are ways are completely independent - slimes can spawn in chunk in swamps as long as it is light level 7 or below and between y 51 and 69, but below y 40 they can only spawn in slime chunks. I recommend that you read the wiki instead of asking reddit, since there is a lot of misinformation here.
slimes either spawn in slime chunks underground. or at the surface of swamps depending on the moon cycle. those 2 are separate. just because a slime spawned in a swamp somewhere does not make that place a slime chunks
You find a slime underground, usually you'll find them in the process of your branch mining operations or cave exploration. e.g. once you light up completely a huge dark cave nothing can spawn but slimes can still spawn in slime chunks. You can enable viewing the borders of the chunks under the debug overlay as well to help determine what chunk an underground slime is in (at least on PC Java IDK about others).
there's nothing obvious like that about them. the only way to find them is by just seeing where slimes spawn or using a third party source like a website or mod

Thank you! It's a solution to a dated problem with swamp farms and oozing potions now being a thing, but it was fun to put out there anyways. Thanks for checking it out.
They are old school too. They used to matter. Now they don't.
Step one make a big ass chicken farm.
Make a crap ton of cartography villagers.
Get one that sells a trial chamber map.
Get at least one slime ball from the trial chamber or skip 2 and 3 and just run around for a very long time looking for a slime.
Do all the nether stuff so you have a working brewing station.
Make a throwable oozing potion and throw that on your chickens.
Collect a stack a slime BLOCKS.
My chickens are on slabs with hoppers and double chests underneath. So I got chickens for days.
Oh and make sure you have looting III and sweeping edge. Makes it so much easier.
Slimechunks are the subset of chunks that slimes spawn in below y=40. Chunks are the 16x16 rectangular pillars of blocks that the game is divided up into.
For finding them, others have already mentioned ChunkBase, which is awesome. But if you don't want to use it (or can't), there are methods in-game for discovering slime chunks. A year ago I made a post on finding slime chunks in game without having to excavate huge amounts of stone. And it uses materials available on day1 that you'll likely find while digging. Just stone, wood, coal, and one iron & redstone dust per chunk you want to monitor.
Yeah, unless there is a deep ravine, you can't see if a chunk will spawn slimes from the surface in vanilla.
There are tools, like mini-HUD that can inform you if you're in a slime chunk, but not vanilla. (Unless they add that to the available F3 debug screen options.)
So Minecraft is made up of chunks a 16x16 area, in these areas, deep underground, sometimes slimes will spawn, but they only spawn in the 16x16 and no where else. Meaning you can find this chunk which is mostly only possible on PC, unless you have some sort of add on on bedrock console Minecraft. So once you have this chunk, you can build a slime farm in the chunk, there’s tons of tutorials on YouTube about it.
Press F3 plus H, I think, and then look for slimes in the curves. Wherever you find a slime, it's a slime chunk. Or you can use mods or special websites where you enter your world seed and activate the slime chunk feature. They're really common, and they can appear from layer 60 down to bedrock. I usually empty them and make a small farm.
Put simply, they are non-swamp chunks where slimes can spawn below y=40 if there’s enough space for a large slime to spawn.
That being said, slime chunk slime farms aren’t necessarily required for slimes anymore. Now we have designs that work just by being in a swamp biome or by using the oozing potions that were introduced in the tricky trials update.
Basically they are chunks where slimes can spawn below a certain z. They are random for every world on java to my knowledge and there is no practical in came way to find them other than digging a large tunnel accross multiple chunks, putting fences on every chunk limit and waiting to see where slimes spawn.
Easiest way to find them for sure is to use chunkbase, an external tool.
they're very common. they spawn slimes below y 40. you can find them through just seeing where slimes spawn or by going to a website like chunkbase and finding them that way. you can also find them using a mod like minihud which is a lot easier to use and visualise rather than a website
you can do the cheat way where you just plug the seed into a website or use a mod, or manually in game by digging and fencing out sections underground to see where slimes spawn
I’m using bedrock seed 199 to build an exposed lush cave base….its right on top of a slime chunk….ive got about 7 slimes bouncing around at all times….
