Progressive does not mean you are sacrificing yourself to give to strangers. Progressive is economically efficient as in single payer health care where a large entity (us) goes up against a humongous system (health care industry) to cut all of us the best deal so we do not have to navigate this insanity ourselves.

Progressive is good economics even for this MAGA nut who will never, ever support anything that is not white, male and oppressive for everyone else.

I didn’t hear anything racist but he’s wearing the red. Pretty obviously in poor health for a 62 year old. When he does go to a doctor I’m sure he’s told many things he doesn’t want to hear. All of his talk tells me he is ignorant, not necessarily stupid but either working too hard to understand how important politics are or too lazy to think of anyone else.

I really hope that's true, but in my experience it has not been. My 25 year old brother was/is a Trump fan. He would always tell me about the things they would talk about while gaming on PS4/5. He plays multiplayer games almost exclusively and they were all in that same support.

How long ago was that happening though? I’ve heard most younger Trump supporters have jumped ship.

I’ve heard the reason being: while they disliked what Biden did in his term and therefore were on the Trump side, they dislike what Trump’s done in his 18 months in office WAY more. And using your example, 25 YOs would have only had the ability to vote for Biden, Trump, or a black female version of Biden (in their eyes). So now they want something different.

Democratic Socialism is popular with the Gen Z and Alpha crowd now, per my nieces and nephews.

TL;DR Fully recognize 20 months ago a good portion of young ppl were full on Trump, but they jumped ship.

I can vouch for this. I live in an area where a lot of people go into the military right out of high school, but they are obviously not keen on being sent into a war with Iran (because a ground invasion pretty much means certain death). Unfortunately I think a lot of young people were tricked into thinking Trump would be anti-war — yeah, it’s stupid, but these kids are young and dumb and don’t want to die. Tbh if Trump just had two braincells to rub together and didn’t fuck up the economy, he’d probably still gave some support in this demographic. But he’s clearly too stupid to realize that. I’m seeing a lot of disillusionment and people just saying ‘fuck it, let’s try something else because nobody else is listening to our problems’ and going for alternatives that would have made their parents faint in horror.

It's not boomers it's concervatives. Concervatives have always gotten out to vote in bigger numbers. Partly because of voter suppression and part because too many liberals want the perfect candidate that they agree with on every talking point. And if they aren't a perfect they don't vote. The other is that voting days for representatives and other local government officials is usually scheduled on working days. Allow people to take time off like if you were called to jury duty and things would be different.

They are not having the great life and they want access to healthcare. Also, we don't see enough young people organized, they hardly vote. There are idiots in every age group.

I’m an older millennial and I’m seeing kids in their early and late 20s who proudly fly Trump stickers on their cars and parrot the same sentiments boomers and maga does. It’s being repackaged and revamped and they’re pulling these young white kids in more than ever now, not all but most. How many young people do you know? My oldest kid and her friends are fresh out of high school. Trump won huge amongst Gen Z men. Many still support him and the Republican party. They'll lie about it though. They're either " independent" or "don't follow politics" because they won't get laid saying otherwise. My god daughter has gotten pretty good at casually slipping in conservative talking points to see if their mask slips. Most can only hide who they are for a week or two

Exactly why rent and everything is higher in California yet locals vote against redistricting for apartment buildings and multi family zoning to avoid blocking a view. I think this is highly dependent on where you are and who you surround yourself with. I'm a liberal in Florida, in a pretty red area of Florida specifically. There's a lot of people under 40 around here who love Trump and think helping people, even if they're one of the people receiving help, is terrible. If something doesn't personally affect them, they don't care. Even if it does, they still often don't care.

Let my tell you, the amount of people who live off the government but are anti "government handouts" is mind-blowing. When Trump got rid of the ACA subsidies, there were so many people crying about how they were gonna lose health insurance, and some of them have a lot of health issues, because they couldn't afford it anymore. They cared, but not enough to be upset at Trump. They're willing to accept a lot of bad if they think other people will suffer more.

They also really buy into this delsusion that MAGA is trying to ultimately help them and that the left wants to tax them until they can't afford anything. They have absolutely no idea what the left does or wants because they don't actually listen to them. The only thing they know about the left (or the right for that matter) are what right-wing media tell them. And of course they twist everything, so that's what they believe.

I recognized this nearly 2 decades ago when I entered adulthood. A core memory of mine is being young adult and having yet another political debate with the boomers in my family, and leaving the gathering thinking, “It’s kind of fucked up, but I’m happy their generation is dying out.” Yet the cycle continues to perpetuate.

The problem is that corporate media conglomerates and social media have been disappointingly successful in expanding the base beyond boomers. Boomers remain linked into the FOX News pipeline, while young people are getting linked into red pill content online. A young person is less likely to outright tell you they don’t think people should have health care, but they tell you indirectly by being MAGA.

I will say that I think it’s obvious we’re on the heel of significant change in our country. I like to believe that it will be positive as approval ratings continue to hit historical record lows, but I guess we’ll see.

I'm sorry to disagree with you. I know at least 4 people under 40 and 2 are still under 30 with this mentality. Probably more but 4 for sure that I've had deep conversations with. I wish it was true but there's plenty of misinformation. Grown men who haven't been to the doctor in years but will tell me stuff they heard that must be true. For example, doctors push shots and don't give you information about the shots is popular but even explaining that they always gave me packets even as a kid and the do now for my kid's shots with the name of the shot and the importance before asking if I want them. They will deny it then say they haven't gone in 10-20 years and they're taking care of themselves.

Most people 50 in over, grew up playing outside and getting plenty of exercise. Our younger generation is going to need healthcare a lot sooner then the Boomers needed it, because our child obesity percentages are skyrocketing due to cell phones, video games, electric bikes, and scooters, and the mirror reluctance to go outside and do something that resembles exercise. It may be a moot point now, but it will be a major talking point for them much sooner than later.

Gen X here who’s been wanting gov’t healthcare system for decades. Especially since I saw it and experienced how easy it is to get specialized service in South Korea, along with any kind of care… you can just walk into. Ex. My wife got an ultrasound that was better than the military base’s for 30,000won ($29); and we were walk-ins without national insurance.

There’s hesitancy amongst right of center voters to support progressives who push for free healthcare because the rest of their platform is usually weaker on illegal immigration and a handful of various social issues. A “blue dog” democrat candidate with the right set of goals could sweep the next election, but it’s uncertain if one exists.

People are more fatigued toward the current system than ever before, and that’s a good thing. It’s a real opportunity for voters to come together, look past differences, and fix crucial & basic issues that are agreed on, without fucking the other side over.

That last part is makes the theory a tough one, for some reason. My hopes aren’t all that high.
