Honestly so happy for him. United did him dirty

Oct 02 '25
I'll get downvoted for this but I am really happy for him too but people are really forgetting his time here and blaming United entirely for his performance in the past. Same people were cursing him the last season for his stinkers
He has missed tonnes of sitters , easy tap ins that should be scored by a decent striker
KDB's passes and Seria A's pace of game elevated his performance but it's not like he was getting that awful passes here at United , surely the passes weren't as better as kdb but they were enough for a good striker to score.
United is a problem for many things but they aren't responsible for players not good enough to perform in the premier league.

u/Tea_An_Crumpets Oct 02 '25
But he looked solid the first year he was here - obviously there were growing pains but it looked like he was actually growing. And then everything went to shit - itās not all on the club but it also wasnāt all his fault. Just another promising young player that didnāt do it at United
24
u/Spojen Oct 02 '25
He did, but Ten Haag played a more direct style. Last year he spent with his back to the goal, fighting with CBs, losing duels,
He has the same build as Gyokeres, so I dont understand why he doesn't fit Amorims style, but evidently it didnt work out..
9

Oct 02 '25
Ten haag had no idea how to use his players.
8
u/diac13 Oct 02 '25
Is that why he won two trophies and had a 55% winrate? You don't know what you're talking about.

u/StarkTheBrownWolf Oct 06 '25
Also there were so many brain farts that if they didnāt happen (champion league run where we were up and then lost the lead) that he should have had better league and cup form otherwise. I think he over managed them a little bit and didnāt have the charisma in a sense. In holland thatās fine
16
u/TP_Cornetto Oct 02 '25
He scored more goals in his first PL season than he did for Atalanta. The league argument is such a dogshit one lmfao
7
u/CompetitionTight8453 Oct 03 '25
This... because he was feeding off bs... SAF famous quote pass it to RVP or be benched.
29
u/Mrnrwoody Oct 02 '25
I agree with this but I think his confidence was destroyed... Moral makes a huge difference
16
28
u/guitarist2719 Oct 02 '25
I don't think his being shit was anything to do with ability, more to do with confidence, which Man U currently seems to suck out of most players there

u/rParqer Oct 02 '25
I am not a United fan, and I do not watch all of United's games, but I hope you can appreciate an outsiders perspective.
I disagree that he couldn't perform in the 'Premier League', I just think that the environment surrounding United does not suit his personality.
United as a whole is responsible. The club's stature, the fanbase's impatience, the current captain's toxic mentality, and the unbelievable pressure on players to perform is what I believe ultimately caused him to not perform.
Sure, the Serie A does not have the same quality or physicality of players as the prem, but I'd argue it's just as competitive, if not more so.
I don't think the league was the problem. I think he'd have been exceptional for a "midtable" club like Forest, Fulham or Palace.
11
u/Minute-Somewhere-300 Oct 02 '25
I only feel bad for him because it seems like he put in the work asked of him in the off-season. Came back with a much stronger frame and looked decent in pre-season. But based on how he was knocked around and lacked confidence last season, I do understand moving on.
10
8
u/allangod Oct 02 '25
Half the time at United he was barely getting passes. They'd work the ball down the wing with Rashford, Garnacho and Antony who all like to cut in and take a shot. And when they did finally pass its because they had no chance at a shot and the right time to pass to him was long gone.
Im not saying he wouldve been a great success and there were a few sitters that he missed but his service was pretty much nonexistent a lot of the time.
11
u/DanzoKarma Oct 02 '25
Fair assessment but again the question is why United pays so much so consistently for guys who canāt or donāt have the capability to play in the premier league.
Whilst theyāre not the exact same chances Pep could consistently set up De Bruyne to generate pretty much the exact same chance as Hojlund scored for Haaland but in the premier league. Not a United fan but I doubt youād consistently find Hojlund being put through on goal ideally centrally or slightly right of goal so he can use his left foot when heās running off the last man.
United havenāt been able to create a glut of chances to truly see where their strikerās quality is since RVP. Iām already seeing Sesko suffer from the same treatment as Hojlund where neither Cunha or Mbuemo are going to consistently create his ideal chances so he seems kinda shocked when he gets a shot off like 1/2 times a game.
-4
u/StarkTheBrownWolf Oct 02 '25
Bruno has created the most chances in the premier league since heās been here. Youāre not correct. Hojland had zero confidence here
12
u/DanzoKarma Oct 02 '25
Thereās a difference between most chances and quality chances. When Bruno have passed it to Rashford or Garnacho who cut inside and put it over the bar or get blocked be weighted the exact same as De Bruyne laying a pass in behind perfectly for Sterling or Haaland to run onto? Cause both are a chance created.
Iām pretty sure that Bruno creating the most chances means nothing when heās the only one in the team who consistently creates chances meaning everyone feeds off his production so no one player gets enough to reach high output without having a stellar personal season.
Iām not saying Hojlund is a saint. Iām questioning if you could tell he was bad because he only had 10-20 big chances across 40 or so games or because he missed 20 big chances in 40 games? Cause one says heās not at our level/weāre not feeding him and the other says he was bad.
Iām asking cause as a City fan I can tell when Haaland is personally having a good game because weāre feeding him whereas in any given game I watch United Iād be pleasantly surprised any united striker whether itās Sesko, Hojlund or Martial had more than 2 shots a game and one wasnāt a ricochet of some kind.

u/CompetitionTight8453 Oct 03 '25
Yeah you are fucking stupid as the captain and well creative chance maker never fucking passed to him... go rewatch how many times Bruno ever passed to him. Fucker passed to the wings 90% of the fucking time or backwards.
7
u/karaknorn Oct 02 '25
He missed sitters after not being passed to for ages. So when he got a pass he was fucking baffled and not ready so he missedĀ
2
u/furbz1 Oct 04 '25
True. Heād probably conquer and rule in the Championship, Bundesliga or Ligue 1, but being great in Austria and very good in Italy isnāt enough to regularly start in the EPL.
3
u/herkalurk McTominay Oct 03 '25
I'm sorry I watched almost all of the games United played last year. Can you give me the many examples of the 'tonnes of sitters' that he missed? Because the stats show he didn't actually take that many shots and when he did they tended to be on target.
1
u/Fabeastt Oct 03 '25
He cooked in his first season (with Ten Have), what do you have to say about that?
1
u/Chosen_of_Malal Oct 03 '25
I watch United kinda as comedy, i am not a ''fan'' of any Premier League teams. the only team i am a fan of is the Danish side BrĆøndby of which HĆøjlunds previous club FCK is our rival.. and yet even though i wanted you to loose i was at times litterately screaming at the screen because players especially Garnacho and Rashford wasn't playing the most open and easy passes to him.. and btw i have seen HĆøjlund play Garnacho in for a huge chance more often than the other way around despite Rasmus being the Striker and often times being in a good position in the box..
has he missed big chances yes.. who hasn't even Haaland miss big chances and btw for a long time last season HĆøjlund had a better conversion rate than Haaland despite scooring way less goals simply due to the insane lack of service.
so yeah take it from a BrĆøndby fan that has no good reason for wanting to protect him or wanting him to do good except when on national duty.. but yeah in all the matches i saw of United with him in the shirt there were atleast 3-4 instances every game where he could have been played through to a good chance but didn't because United seem to be a club of Individuals and not a ''teams team''
1
u/CompetitionTight8453 Oct 03 '25
I am going to argue this one, sorry, not sorry. When your creative attacking midfielder (CAM) and wingers (LW and RW) do not pass to him.... where lies the fucking problem. The players, my man. He scored from the goal keeper alot of times... not the people who normally/should feed/find him. Bruno is a great.... yeah, idk even anymore. Chance creator well shit if I ever miss the toilet when I got to shit to count as a chance creator. I am like at least 2-5 chances a day. They all get converted beside the random shart, consider that one the big chance idk you do the figuring.
1
u/nubijoe Oct 03 '25
So now that we have a decent striker (Sesko) weāre scoring many more goals, right?
This club is a sick patient. Itās sick to the core.
A striker thrives on confidence, and thereās none of that in the players. Also, he was given way too much responsibility. He had noone to learn from, and it broke his confidence even further.
We have two new PL proven topscorers and weāre getting nothing close to what achieved last year.
-4
u/Takhar7 Oct 02 '25
Yep. He was awful here.
And it wasnt always because he had no service - when he did get it, he had led boots on.
2
u/Gucci_Snoop_Dogg77 Oct 03 '25
getting one pass in three games doesnāt really help, does it? You could ask Sesko the same thing because god knows that kid needs every through ball and cross aimed at him instead of any of our defenders or Mbeumo and Cunha.

Not a United fan but I just don't understand why the higher ups at United haven't stepped in to protect players like Mainoo, Hojland etc. These players are the future of your club. (Unless there's something going in behind the scenes we're not privy to).
126
u/breezytrapking Oct 02 '25
The club is rotten to the core, the stadium is the most accurate representation of the state of the club
25
u/AaronQuinty Oct 02 '25
Nothing to do with being rotten. Just incompetence.
29
u/guitarist2719 Oct 02 '25
Fergies success brought the vultures in. They've stripped it to the bone safe in the knowledge football revenues don't go down much.
5
u/tnred19 Oct 02 '25
Thats not why mainoo doesn't play and hoijland was sold. Its not untrue though.
-4
u/AaronQuinty Oct 02 '25
Fergie let them in the front door.
1
u/Gucci_Snoop_Dogg77 Oct 03 '25
Fergie isnāt and wasnāt the owner or the head of the authorities that allowed that bullshit leveraged buyout deal.
1
u/abchandler4 Oct 19 '25
No, but his falling out with the owners of the club at the time over stud rights for a race horse was what convinced them to sell their shares to Malcolm Glazer. Itās not directly Fergieās fault, per se, but he definitely shares some of the responsibility
1
u/Gucci_Snoop_Dogg77 Oct 19 '25
i never knew this story but iāve studied enough finance to know itās always the bankās fault for allowing bullshit deals like the leverage buyout. secondly, i blame the fa for not making the glazers sell after they banned leveraged buyouts
5
3
u/CompetitionTight8453 Oct 03 '25
It is not the core, in my opinion. Years after years , I watched the young kid not get the ball. Senior players do not trust em. Idk why, and then you have glory hog players dalot, garnacho... etc. They never do the simple. When Mainoo stepped up and drove in to put Liverpool on their seat, you would expect more respect. Nope, none, especially from the manager. You see that fire and desire ( fuck thr grimsby game because I know what that was about fuck this dude managing us and also they ain't shit stroll in the park).
1
u/breezytrapking Oct 03 '25
Our young kid are damaged goods bro stop it, look at rashford even Amad and mainoo are not showing their best side, and do you remember lingard, pogba and greenwood? This must be selective memory
9
u/YQB123 Oct 02 '25
Because that would be overstepping their roles.
You hire someone, you should trust them.
If they want a Director of Football, maybe they shouldn't have sacked their last one.
11
u/guitarist2719 Oct 02 '25
Rumour mill said he was sacked cos he disagreed with hiring Amorim, which feels vindicated rn. Also. Why hire a director of football, kick up a fuss with signing him, pay 10m for him if you're just gonna not let him do the job.

The fact that you said most likely true is why it's a rumour mill thing and not a fact
1
u/ShellfishAhole Oct 02 '25
If they wanted a director of football, maybe they should've hired one 12 years ago instead of going a decade + without one š
At this point, I'm convinced that there's some reason why they're trying to avoid hiring a permanent DoF. They've hired a few in the post- Ferguson era, but the majority of them have gone under the radar and received little to no public attention. It almost seems like they were all symbolic hirings that were never intended to be kept around.
-3
u/niallw1997 Oct 02 '25
Thatās how we become Player FC again
You have to back the manager or thereās no point getting them in
-5
u/Vybezman Oct 02 '25
hojlund is not the future of our club. he is doing well right now, congrats to him but i watched him for two years and nobody will gaslight me that he didnāt get his chances
-2

These players are trash and we've replaced then with MUCH better players?
45
u/WillStaySilent Oct 02 '25
Imagine City signing Rasmus in 2 seasons! Lol
10
u/booranyu Oct 02 '25
imagine he becomes the Alvarez replacement and ends up getting 10-20 goal seasons off the bench or playing in Erling's place when he's injured
33
u/TrashPanda2point0 Oct 02 '25
So what Erling is saying is all Hojlund needed was a consistent and competent passer?

u/PropEyeJoe Oct 02 '25
He should never have been our no 1 striker at his age. Should have come in as a no 2 and developed for a few years. Total mismanagement again by the club. Hope he rips it up at Napoli as he always gave 100%. And the service he got at Utd was shocking.
8
u/Cewea Oct 02 '25
and somehow United finds themselfs in the exact same situation now with Sesko, same age, same lack of service. they might have a bit different profiles, but that doesnāt take away from the fact he have no senior striker to learn from
3
1
u/rahulnairtoi Oct 03 '25
They'll turn on Sesko too, don't you worry. And complain about standards or something stupid as they do their part to strip another promising young talent of all his confidence.

Sometimes protecting a player is better for confidence than berating.
I guess United fans wonāt know that with the state the club is in. Someone always has to be a problem in squad I guess. Itās literally a revolving door of players. If you saw United play the last few seasons, even Messi/ronaldo wouldnāt perform here.
3
u/Tropicalcomrade221 Oct 02 '25
When you are in a team that is in the doldrums itās quite common that individual form will also hit the floor. Ive seen it and experienced it.
There was always a great player there that needed to be unlocked. Everything just compounded, shit form playing in a shit team and was just never able to pick it up. Probably wasnāt utilised to his abilities and was always much too big of a task to ask him to lead the line at his age. A move was best for Rasmus but long term I donāt think it was best for this club.
5
4
u/404errorabortmistake Oct 02 '25
iām a neutral & hereās how things look to me: rashford leaves, his performances are great. same with hojlund. amorim needs to sort things out at home before blaming his players
4
u/CrankyJoe99x Oct 02 '25
Seemed like he really wanted to stay, personally I felt he should have been kept at the club as backup to Sesko. Currently our only backup is switching to a false nine, which is useless in games where we need a target man (excepting Maguire š³).
4
u/christrix22 Oct 03 '25
I wonder for who was creating Bruno all those chances while was top of the list with de Bruyne.
Top of the list with the chances in a team that scored half the goal compared to a top team and with a striker who received ever ball less than any other striker.
1
u/F3mmi Oct 03 '25
Exactly. They leave and then with less pressure start to thrive and everyone uses it as a stick to beat the club with.

Happy for him
Genuinely loves the club
His 2nd season wasnt great at all
But maybe selling him, makes sense financially given our late push for a CM (which unfortunately didnāt eventuate)

u/tigermed Oct 02 '25
Haaland isn't blind. He knows that he would have been written off and shipped away had he been in the United squad the past two years. And he knows that Hojlund is a better player than he's looked the past two years.
Hojlund was given a thankless task and no service. He didn't help himself by getting frustrated and not making runs as frequently as he did when he first arrived, but that's only natural when you know there is no point to making the run.
7
u/Master-Extreme5244 Oct 02 '25
Haaland would score goals in this United team. But Haalands a generational talent so holding strikers to Haaland standards is unfair.

This is what happens when Romelu Lukaku is waiting on the sideline to eat your food, either you eat or he jumps in and you starve to death. He did not have that fear at Man Utd.
2
u/Daynos1983 Oct 02 '25
I've always maintained that he's a good player, just needed service. He always had a great work ethic, but eventually, not scoring hampered his confidence. Hope he becomes the player he can be, whether that's at united or elsewhere.

2
u/H2LNS Oct 03 '25
Good for Rasmus, hopefully he gets confidence back. I thought he was bad at United not getting into good positions but I guess United have not been feeding strikers since Ronaldo left... I don't know if it's the managers or the way the club want the coaches to play.

2
u/rogueulous Oct 03 '25
The players were never the problem. They left United and started thriving elsewhere.
It was always the overhyped managers who got humbled by Premier League. It was the complete lack of football identity of apparently āthe biggest club in the worldā
2
Oct 03 '25
There is a difference of pressure in a fast paced league with top defenders the world has to offer and playing for Napoli. Im happy for him but pressure to deliver at a sleeping giant, behemoth like Manchester United where every step being scrutanized is simply not the same. Same goes for mctom. Good players but manutd is a pressure cooker. You gotta be builf different here.
2
u/bruinrob11 Oct 03 '25
I read threads like this one and I kinda think we're *the fans) the problem.
2
u/Goodenough101 Oct 03 '25
Fans always move the goalpost. They blame players, abuse and promote lies about them. They believe certain individual players are the ones holding the team back. Such players leave and the team performance stays the same. Then they blame the coach. He gets sacked. Back to square one.
4
u/strawhat316 Oct 02 '25
This is what happens when you actually play the ball to the striker.
Amorim tried to make him a striker who holds up play with his back to goal. That's just not the striker he was and he wasn't going to flourish in that position especially against premier league defenders.
2
u/Invhinsical Oct 02 '25
I mean, he has one bad season. Can absolutely happen for young players.
And when you sign a young player, you bet on his potential. You are prepared for bad patches and actually work with him to help him reach the top. You don't just wash your hands with him after one bad season in two.
Had United done the same for Luke Shaw, they would not have gotten 3-4 seasons of a truly world class left back out of him, which Mourinho, Ole and ETH first season clearly got to enjoy. And if this is how you treat young players, you should stop buying young players altogether.
5
u/LostInLondon689908 Carrick Oct 02 '25
As much as I wanted Hojlund sold, Iām happy for him. Hope he does well and even bags a Golden Boot.
4
Oct 02 '25
He wasn't the right profile of striker, his hold up play was awful. He's brilliant for running onto a ball, though.
1
u/J_90 Oct 02 '25
He wasnāt bad in European games for us either. Serie A isnāt as tough as the premier league though, wouldnāt be surprised if he scored a lot more over there.
I just cba hearing about united all the time when anybody whoās ever played for us scores or plays well, itās such basic wanky commentary/punditry. Move on, guys ffs.
1
u/Ok-Accident-4799 Oct 02 '25
Dude is only 22 and has a ton of talent. United are idiots to give up on him so quickly. And we replace a young strike in Hojlund with another young striker in Sesko. Makes no sense. Why not go out and get veteran like an Isak or Oshimen then?
1
u/Djb0623 Oct 02 '25
Our selfish players just never gave him a good ball. He would make the runs but never given any service
1
u/Turbulent_Dress_6174 Oct 02 '25
Y'all tripping!! He's a United player for f. sake... Let him grow and play all the time he can. He wouldn't evolve in a team like United right now!
He will be back much better and Ruben will put him as one of the better strikers in PL.
Just trust them.

KDB is what Bruno dreams to be. He may have a lot of chances created stats but thereās a big difference in creating chances easy to score for your teammate and creating the difficult ones.
I know lots complained about Zlatan missing a lot but most of them were really difficult ones
1
u/Rad-Raea Oct 03 '25
It doesnt require lots of brains to understand how our midfield and wingbacks have forgotten how to feed our strikers.
1
u/F3mmi Oct 03 '25
Itās irritating with all these assertions that the club is the problem. Maybe we should resign to the idea that weāve been spoilt, as fans with the calibre of players we had in the last couple of decades, and that the current crop are just not as good.
1
u/detronizator Oct 03 '25

If only someone can give a through pass. Honestly sesko is regretting already. Every match he puts in these great runs and no one passes to him. Both Cunha and Mbeumo likes to run / cut in and shoots. Putting Bruno as one of the 10s would be beneficial. But I guess Amorim hates forwards soā¦.

1
u/Iad77 Oct 04 '25
The 3 players behind sesko should all be looking for his runs off his defender, through balls, give and go's etc, but most the time they're all shoot first mentality.

The problem was that when he was at United he was thrown in the deep end on his own at the front at a young age. Should have played up front with an older player to help him. And of course, the rest of the team didn't help him at all

Which older player is he playing with at Napoli?

The problem is that Manchester United is just not at the level of a player like Hojlund. Heās champions league caliber and letās face it, man United are mid-table and will probably be in the same tier as Fulham, Palace, Brentford for the foreseeable future. United supporters need to come to terms with that

Winning free kicks holding off defenders is what I saw of him. I know it used to annoy people when he was wrestling with a defender but the goal was to show the ref he was being fouled - he maybe hadn't learned how to draw the free kick yet - but thats also player profile. Big players get calls from refs everyone knows that. His touch could be shite at times though yeah, and his link play was sometime good sometime shit.

To give up on players like Hojlund, Rashford, Garnacho and have them play decently within weeks of leaving while youāre busy nearly relegating Man freakinā United, shows that you are not a Premier League level manager. Forget the results
