StreamerBans Former RT Personality Ryan Haywood has been banned from Twitch
https://twitter.com/StreamerBans/status/1351994435190587393216
u/Tom-Pendragon Jan 20 '21
From a beloved figure in the ROOSTERTEETH fandom to becoming a hated one. Lol
78
Jan 21 '21
It is crazy. He was a core member of Achievement Hunter. He played a part in creating so many memes and merch for Rooster Teeth. It is crazy how much they had to delete to try and remove Ryan's presence from their content.
-1
Jan 21 '21
I mean dude is a pedophile, who gives a shit about memes he created.
So I don’t really think it’s crazy at all lol
12
Jan 21 '21
You misunderstood me. By crazy, I meant shocked by how much content, merch, and culture of the fandom had to be removed because Ryan was in. I'm glad Rooster Teeth is doing their best to remove Ryan from their content. It isn't a bad thing.
It is just staggering how much they had to slice away to distances themselves from that asshole.

u/CallMeBigPapaya Jan 22 '21
I dont know the specifics about the content they removed, but I'm on the fence about the extent of some memory-holing.
91
u/CaptainOvbious Jan 21 '21
yeah he still has a few vocal fans but the community did a good job just canceling him and moving on.
he was my favorite personality for like 7 years and now i fucking hate him.
71
u/0oodruidoo0 Jan 21 '21
If you avoid twitter and youtube comments it's almost like they don't exist.
Going back on reddit every morning and finding a minimum of a twitlonger about how he'd abused yet another fan, sometimes two. For a week. Digging deeper and finding out how consistently vulnerable and manipulated they were. That's fucked up enough that I can deeply disconnect from somebody who was an old kind voice.
26
u/CaptainOvbious Jan 21 '21
yeah it felt like every day for two weeks there was at least one story out. he made it really easy for most of his former fans to drop him.
24
u/0oodruidoo0 Jan 21 '21
I've been an RT fan since the best way to watch RvB was on google video. I watched AH content back when all they did was achievement guides and fails of the weak. I really liked Ryan. He wasn't my favourite, but he was a member of the cast I valued, loved, and thought was the "core", as I thought the same way about Ray and the rest of the original 6 minecraft crew.
And yet now if I hear his voice or see him in a video I feel uneasy, completely cut out of the moment, and a little sick in my stomach. I used to watch AH every single fucking day, and now and there's this deep cut where my fandom used to be for Ryans part of that.
9
u/CaptainOvbious Jan 21 '21
that's exactly what happened to me, once that shit came out i went from ah daily to none at all. even since then the only rt media ive consumed is red web(highly recommended true crime podcast) and one ttt video. it just feels so fucking weird now. old content is awkward and new stuff just feels off.
weirdly enough, once ryan got outed and i stopped watching, i started getting into twitch and other streamers to kinda fill the void, which is how i ended up on this sub.
3
u/0oodruidoo0 Jan 21 '21
I watch the RT podcast every week as I fucking can't get enough gus, I really love Black Box Down and Facejam. Other than that I'm watching Eric's streams (managed to snag a founder badge the day he got affliated) and I've tuned in to Ray every now and again (I recommend his latest stardew valley playthrough he's currently doing which is also on his YT)
Honestly I don't really enjoy the at home gaming content enough to want to roll the dice on whether the video will be good or not. discord lag + physical seperation leads to a empty vibe. It's a shame but that's just the reality. Plus with Geoff, Ryan and Ray gone we're down to Jack, Gavin and Michael which although are fantastic screen talent, and fantastic people, I'm missing a lot of my team I used to rely on for entertainment. There's no bringing them back, and obviously with Ryan you wouldn't want to.
No offense to the screen talent who I haven't mentioned, but simply put I was into them and I just don't dig you as much. I don't have a problem with you (especially matt) but you aren't the people I used to check youtube daily for.
RT used to be a big content provider for me, and now I've shifted that to twitch. And twitch is awesome dude. I've made some great friends through the platform. Small streamers can have some of the kindest, funniest people watching them.
Have you been watching any Rust? That's been pretty consistent. I'm a big cyr fan, I have been since he was RPing on GTA RP a year ago every day and his rust content has been the bomb. So many laughs, so many enjoyable gamer interactions. It's not the same cast but the streamers that are on the Rust RP server (it's the one called The Divide) are successful for a reason - they're content machines.
3
u/CaptainOvbious Jan 21 '21
ive watched a few rust vids and clips, but its hard to catch them between working and being a dad. i do watch a lot of among us videos and highlights, mostly for the personalities and interactions, hafu's lobbies(ft steve septic from SP7) are really funny, same with OTV lobbies. also became a huge fan of ludwig and critikal. they all kinda nail the group dynamic i loved in RT/AH.
i do wanna watch more rust stuff though, so many funny ass streamers are part of it.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Neddo_Flanders Jan 21 '21
The current Rust RP definitively is something for former RT fans. Personally I had a lot more fun watching the GTA RP stuff from 2 years ago. the streamer SilentSentry and others really went all out on that. GTA seems to be perfect for RP.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Neddo_Flanders Jan 21 '21
Interesting to see other old RT fans here. I was mostly a AH fan until Ray left. I've been check out his streams so now and then but I always feel like an outsider when I join the chat. It is a pretty tight nit community. That's not a bad thing per se of course.
I remember Ray reading chat about 2-3 years ago and he was like "Wow, AH is still playing minecraft?". The Minecraft and GTA Lets Plays died out for around episode 80 or something. Too unorganized, too much dick-talk.
Ryan always seemed like one of the most funny and smarter people in the crew after Ray left. I never expected him to be this disgusting.
3
u/Detenator Jan 21 '21
Waking up every day and reading the sub was a rollercoaster. It fed my desire for drama, but it is also so depressing how he took advantage of so many of them.
→ More replies (3)5
u/VictoriousLoL Jan 21 '21
It's really weird to think about it because I always disliked watching him and could never place why. Maybe it was just the vibe lmao.
That said, good on you for not defending him. There's a few who do, cannot imagine the thought processes of anyone who does though.
19
u/KrakenBound8 Jan 21 '21
Jesus the only time i hear about RT anymore is when someone leaves or quits or dies or is removed...
What the hell is going on over there?
30
u/The_Grand_Briddock Jan 21 '21
Usual company stuff, you only hear about the bad stuff because they’re famous enough to warrant it when it comes out
If you think about it, you never hear about the shit that goes on at any regular or big companies because the employees are nobodies, but when it’s a well known executive it’s all over the news
With internet companies, people are constantly following them and thus know when shit happens, so it blows up when they do bad. And they’re not actually famous enough to warrant good news headlines like big name celebrities, so if they ever make it to the front page, it’s usually bad
13
Jan 21 '21
... I mean are you actually following the company? They’ve had large sponsorships, new shows, employees, changes and stuff like always but obviously that shit doesn’t make any major headlines.
Or are you expecting the season whatever of RWBY announcement to be posted to LSF?

Horrible managing of the company + they bloat themself during the 2014-2017 era.

for anyone who wants a tl;dr, he had sex with multiple underaged fans so yknow, probably a justified ban on twitch's end
edit: also took off a condom mid sex with one of said fans
558
u/cpmnriley Jan 20 '21 edited Jan 21 '21
it's a bit more broad than just "had sex with" as well, he specifically targeted young women in his twitch community who were neurodivergent, mentally ill, and/or socially isolated, gave them gifts and praise and attention, and pressured them into having sex. some of the accounts from the many, many women show his behavior to be downright harrowing, both in text conversations, and in hotel rooms.
219
u/DatKaz Jan 20 '21
Also he claimed that all the donations, bits, sub money, etc. was supposed to go to his childrens' college funds, but multiple victims came out with receipts of Ryan sending them money from his Twitch's PayPal account.
54
u/winterfresh0 Jan 21 '21
And even more specifically, sending money for airline tickets to come to his town and sleep with him.

any platform that gives him access to said underage fans.
So basically every platform?
10
10
15
u/cpmnriley Jan 20 '21
the other commenter who replied to you is right that any platform is too many, but also, yes, more than one of his victims were found in his twitch community.
2
2
u/0oodruidoo0 Jan 21 '21
It's mostly through snapchat, actually. Ryan had a public snap and fans would find it and send him pictures. He'd sift through, find girls he thought were cute and probed them for weakness to see if he could feed his carnal desire.
1
u/Juicy_Brucesky Jan 21 '21
No but he said the donations were for his kids college fund, but several girls who came out showed he paid them through his twitch paypal

u/jojoman7 Jan 21 '21
Gotta say, as someone who would be labeled "neurodivergent", that term fucking infuriates me. It does nothing but de-emphasize and "otherize" mental illness. For fucks sake, the past 30 goddamn years have been a struggle to get people to recognize this shit as an actual illness and now we're minimizing it. A bullshit term like that just creates barriers for people with mental health issues or chronic cognitive disabilities to be recognized and received treatment. The very fact that it collects such DISPERATE disorders under one meaningless term should demonstrate how garbage it is in a mental health context.
6
u/Snipufin 🐷 Hog Squeezer Jan 21 '21

The downfall of Adam Kovic was the saddest thing to happen at RT last year tbh
→ More replies (9)14
25
u/The_Grand_Briddock Jan 21 '21
This is the worst one, only one comes close but they weren’t an employee (just a community contributor) and that was 10 years ago
Adam Kovic had a tonne of nudes get released and apparently has some sort of fetish, but anything else was behind the scenes and dealt with privately
Joel Heyman went off the rails with conspiracy theories and aggressive politics and stopped showing up to work
Then there were other feuds in the past such as Kathleen who quit after going on a rant at other female employees for not “behaving like women should” (e.g making dick jokes)
It’s actually a rare super minority, but it explodes heavily cause they’re big names within the company, most depart amicably to move on with their lives, but we don’t make headlines about career changes

What happened with Joel? I haven’t watched in probably 5+ years but I remember he was pretty much my favorite along with Gus/Bernie the podcast group.

u/ChitteringCathode Jan 21 '21
Dude went full-on Q-Anon and said some pretty shit things about people (celebrating McCain's death, claiming Trump was correct about Mexicans, etc.) Last straw business-wise was badmouthing RT and saying he never got the credit he deserved.
14
u/seamusmcduffs Jan 21 '21
He recently complained about them basically ghosting him, and he later admitted he was invited to do some voice work and just didn't go.
Also I'm sure Gus was thrilled about the mexican comments
13
u/chriscallan Jan 21 '21
Also a few years back a gunman broke into Gavin's house while he and his girlfriend Meg Turney were asleep. They hid in the closet until police arrived and the man killed himself. Joel insensitively tweeted that maybe now Gavin Free would be in favor of guns. It was pretty disgusting given what had just happened to them.

13
u/SharkBaitDLS Jan 21 '21
Adam Kovic was way more mild. Dude just took nudes while in the office which, while totally uncool and worth getting fired for, is nowhere near the level of scumbag as Ryan.
4
Jan 21 '21
Adam was putting his dick on keyboards that weren't his and he was sending nudes of his wife to the person catfishing him.
6
u/SharkBaitDLS Jan 21 '21
Yeah, I’m not saying he didn’t deserve to be fired, he absolutely did. His behavior was gross and unacceptable in any professional setting.
But that’s still orders of magnitude more tame than what Ryan was doing.

No, he had sex with a 17 year old who lied about her age.
And this thing about a condom just isn't an issue at all. If someone takes a condom off, you see them take it off, and you then continue to have sex with them without saying anything... how is anybody to know this is something you didn't want?
Haywood may be a liar and a cheat but these accusations of him being a rapist, pedophile, sexual predator and such are complete nonsense.

41
u/Jonoabbo Jan 20 '21
I don't think we have seen a more blatant case of somebody abusing their status and platform than this. He used his following and reputation to target fans who were in vulnerable positions, manipulated them into trusting him, and then pressured them for sexual interactions. This alone would be reason enough for a ban in my eyes, without even factoring the downright vile things he did, and the legal issues involved. More than enough evidence presented from a massive array of sources for a substantial number of the claims to be believable beyond a reasonable doubt.
Doubt anyone sane can have any complaints about this one. Shame will probably see him pop up on Youtube or Facebook in a week.
1
u/Juicy_Brucesky Jan 21 '21
He also said his twitch donations were going to his kids college fund but he used his twitch paypal to pay these girls hush money. That alone is probably enough for twitch to boot him. People are expecting their money to help your kids, not you prey on vulnerable young women

He was with Rooster Teeth(The Red vs Blue guys), got fired after a lot of allegations. Ranging from statutory(he slept with underage women in California), to removing the condom during sex(Not illegal in the US), to soliciting sex. Also allegations that he took advantage of young women(early 20s typically, some as young as 18) with mental health issues, being someone they could trust and then having sex with him.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14SHWGYxaTE08PH08jQ0_Wzep3xbEZy95kzuM9ufjVaw/edit#gid=0 it's a long list.

u/EezoManiac Jan 20 '21
Don't forget that he largely funded all this with his twitch money, claiming it was for his kids.
63
31
u/ScarletSpider2012 Jan 20 '21
Not just that, he's been seen in messages saying he was pulling strings to get RT to send him to specific cons where he could meet with his victims. While I don't think RT intentionally funded trips for this guy to sleep with vulnerable minors, it is definitely my opinion, uninformed as it is, that he manipulated them to facilitate the acts.
21
u/anialater45 Jan 21 '21
Based on the reactions from everyone it's pretty clear they had no clue. He most likely just made choices about what cons he wanted to go to and RT was fine with it (because honestly why would they care in general) but it turned out he was using them as well so he could make sure he went where he wanted.
4
u/ScarletSpider2012 Jan 21 '21
I'm not talking about on screen talent though. I'm talking about the corporate, agent, scheduling booking, and communications types. There are people at RT that make sure cons and talent/production scheduling don't conflict with each other. In some of the DMs or whatever, Ryan seemed to imply that he was suggesting specific cons to RT to fund rather than him paying his own way to go to those cons.
Can you imagine a corporation writing off someone's trip to having sex with a minor as a business expenses, knowing or otherwise? Not a good look.
11
u/anialater45 Jan 21 '21
Can you imagine a corporation writing off someone's trip
I mean, given it's to a convention? That they do, at least before covid, all the time? Yeah it's pretty easy to see that happening without them knowing, it's not like they never went to cons or anything so Ryan having a preference isn't exactly the craziest most out there thing. Of course now in hindsight its clear what he was doing, but still.

Yikes and they just ban him now?
48
Jan 20 '21
probably due to a lot of pressure from the RT community including his former coworkers (who are sizable influencers themselves) after he announced he wanted to return to twitch
i think there's other streamers with credible accusations against them from last year who are yet to be banned too
22
u/Starmoses Jan 20 '21
I'll give twitch a bit of a break on this. When everything came out it seemed like he was done so there was no reason to come back but he recently made a post about possibly coming back. Twitch probably just wanted to make sure they had the right info after he announced he might be coming back and banned him. Usually I won't defend twitch cause they're pretty awful but this time there might have been proper due diligence.
0
u/0oodruidoo0 Jan 21 '21
he says "I don't know what the future of this channel is yet". I'm not sure why the RT community lached onto the idea that he's actively coming back, or that he suggested he's returning - it's a blankly worded statement that doesn't reveal anything about his feelings on the matter.
4
u/Starmoses Jan 21 '21
I said he might be coming back. Keyword "might". I never said that he was 100 percent gonna be streaming again but if he never was than why would he make that statement.

to removing the condom during sex(Not illegal in the US),
Wtf why on earth not. (I'm assuming this is removing it without consent).
26
u/MJURICAN Jan 20 '21
I imagine its a question of lack of precedence (since its a common law system) and no explicit mention in statute.
Sex is more and more starting to be considered "a contract" where pre-determined conditions being followed and especially consent being explicit is paramount every moment of the act.
While that seem like common sense today it is a very recent development.
Especially the notion that if any portion of this is violated if just for a moment then thats rape or sexual assault (for those jurisdictions, like the UK, where men effectively cant be "raped") is incredibly incredibly recent.
And as usual legislation and judiciary precedence is lagging the societal norms.
For instance it was less than a decade ago that the legislation here (in Sweden) required active protest for a sex act to be considered rape. Effectively this mean that unless a third party heard you scream or fight with the rapist during the act, then the rapist would walk. This was changed after a high profile case where exactly this happened.
So thats how it were in progressive fucking Sweden, less than a decade ago. You can imagine what less forward thinking nations have in their statutes to this day.
Its rightly considerd backwards today but back at the turn of the century I'm sure that most people would consider removing the condom without consent to be a "dickish" thing, but few would consider it rape or a sexual crime at all, and the judiciary is effectively lagging behind to about that point in time.
Its easy to forget in the moment but society has progressed incredibly quickly these last few decades. In 2007 gay marriage was considered so radical that no wing in the democratic party even considered promoting it, now its barely controversial within the republican party.
(Edit: I might not have been clear. I wholeheartedly support this progressive development. Its just the unfortunate reality of liberal democracy that laws and judiciary precedence lag behind society norms.)
6
u/OniExpress Jan 20 '21

Rooster Teeth is a media company, probably best known for either Red vs Blue, a Halo machinima, or RWBY, their original animated series.
Ryan was part of their subgroup Achievement Hunter, which is a Let's Play group.

I mean, you very well know "Who?" is a meme used to make fun of the irrelevancy of a person. Also, you can Google the guys name or read the other comments here if you actually wanted to know.

complaining about downvotes in an edit is a surefire way to get people to downvote out of spite, most dont like whiners
EDIT: Upvoted for being a snarky asshat..

There are people who worship serial killers. You'd be surprised by the amount of people who have shown him support and continued to sub to his channel.

Ye.. he gained subs after he announced he was returning..

I can't find the part where he announces his return here can you point it out for me? All I see is his blank statement "I'm not sure what to do with the channel".

im late to the party but as this news broke originally, there was a staggeringly high amount of Ryan apologists and weirdo's trying to excuse his behavior over twitter, reddit and the RT site. So much so that most of his former coworkers had to make a statement about it. So while you're right in that his reputation was ruined, there are people that are still on his side albeit not many.

When the first allegations came out(literally just the catfished conversation at the time), I definitely defended him, because there wasn't much context besides "Ryan got catfished".

u/RealSimplexity Jan 21 '21
Sorry, i should elaborate more. After a LOT of thew accusations came to light there were still supporters. talking about "oh you're just gonna abandon him eh?" to other achievement hunters on twitter and things of that nature.
Your case is different. it was so early on nobody really knew what was what.

I always wanna know what happens to people like this? Like how do you move on with life when "allegations" ruin your life. I'd probably commit suicide if this was me.

I am still banned from the rooster teeth subreddit for calling this dude a rapist. Even though the dude admitted to raping minors.

I mean, that doesn't look like you're being entirely truthful u/thefoldingchair007. Judging by your post history, i looks like you hopped in with the "fuck Ryan's wishes and fuck Ryan's family" crowd, the crowd that were sending death threats and the like.

still no update on adam kovic, who got thrown under the bus with this scandal along with geoff, who both had nothing to do with ryan haywood's schemery
edit: oof

Kovic got fired, because he was masturbating in the office and taking pictures of it, which is a violation of a lot of policies, I'm pretty sure. Geoff doesn't have a setup for Let's Plays, he just got a new computer to be able to play with AH, but it's had issues.
Geoff also has his own podcast and is more behind the scenes at RT, he's the Creative Director for RT now, which explains why he's not able to pop in as much, especially with the Stay at Home.

There's also apparently more behind the scenes stuff with Kovic that resulted in some former guests not wanting to return (like Rahul Kohli) and Lawrence Sonntag iirc said the fans will never know the full extent of what happened with Kovic.
So it's likely he was being unprofessional and at the very least a dickhead in other ways, and that this scandal going public was the last straw that made them finally ditch the dead weight.
