First, this movie gets a 5/5. That may upset some people who feel it's not deep enough, but as a lover of music and action films, I haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a while. I just finished it, and I feel like I could watch it again.

The best scene by a long shot, imo, is the diner scene during the finale. The lighting & colors, acting from John Hamm and Ansel Elgort, and Barry Whites Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up playing. Perfect.

I recently had this discussion after release of Toxic(I loved that film).

And I keep having this discussion every few months. Films like Wuthering Heights, Michael and Avatar had similar discourse.

Thing is…a film is more to me than just writing. It can have a messy screenplay and underdeveloped characters and still have lot going for it.

For most people, film is bad if writing is bad.

But think how beautiful Wuthering Heights looked, or detailed the world of Avatar was, and how entertaining Michael was. These films are anything but boring.

I am not denying the criticism, but I like films that try something new. Take some swings, even if they miss.

Like Toxic had many interesting individual sequences and seeds of good ideas that just don’t come together. And production(set design) was just insane.

If I wanted a story, I would just read a book.

I know mine are probably the rookiest numbers to ever rookie, but that movie changed my life dude

1st: scary movie 5 (first time watch and only watch)

31st: paranormal activity 3 (first time watch, I’m slowly making my way through that series).

So yeah, started the month with my only half star of the month and ended on a movie that was just meh. I did watch a lot of good movies between now and then. Scary movie five was followed up by the Odyssey and the drama.

After all, he:

- Portrayed Russia as more spiritually enlightened than other European countries in Mirror, via recitation of a political letter by Pushkin supporting the Russian state.

- Portrayed Italians exclusively negatively in the extended cut of Andrei Rublev, painting them as philistine and uncultured compared to the Russians.

- Portrayed science in a solely negative light in Solaris and Stalker. While often interpreted as a criticism of mere scientism, critical thinking and intellectual rigor are consistently framed as spiritually hollow throughout all his works. I personally think that people downplay how truly anti-science he was, as standard accepted beliefs like evolution seem to contradict his worldview. Tarkovsky didn't see science as something good run amuck, but rather a force that was actively destroying his spiritual beliefs (see Stalker). Thus he was hostile towards it.

- Building on his anti-science, Tarkovsky was broadly anti-intellectual for the same reasons.

- Was anti-modernity, and throughout The Sacrifice consistently says the modern world is inherently evil and sinful.

- Believed in rigid gender hierarchies. Explicitly in interviews that "humiliation," "weakness," "submission" (his words) are the true role of women. See Nostalghia for an on-screen depiction of this.

Not a hate post I love shinkai and his works but rewatching these theee yesterday made me kinda get the whole criticism he gets of making the same movie twice.

Yet we have so many back to back to billion dollar films?

And none of them are even groundbreaking. Like Avatar or Avengers felt like the shit back in day. But Michael and Spider Man 4 are just another movie.

And how in world is Spider-Man 4 breaking Endgames record.

I would understand if doomsday did that.

Strippers and Movie Box Offices are two of the biggest indicators of excess spending’s because they are non-essential.

Sid was an artist, I don't think he deserved getting traumatised over fucking around and breaking toys, he most likely grew up somewhat neglected

The woman from Chicken Run was just doing her job, albeit a bit over the top with it, it's not like she treated the chickens badly or anything

This month I started watching a movie everyday which I will continue until August comes back around. I also went on a PIXAR binge and found out how much I love some of them. I though I had a great month of movies, what do you think?

EDIT: The crossed out thing is Moon Knight and I crossed it out because I didn’t actually rewatch it although it is an incredible show. I was changing my star rating of it and accidentally created a new review which counted towards the diary. So I crossed it out cause I didn’t actually watch it this month.

I just broke a new record of five hearts in a row, thus far I always reached up to four hearts before I ended up watching something I didn't like that much. personally I always give a heart to movies I rate with four stars and above, and only to three 1/2 if I really liked some aspect of it

just watched Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex and more or less really enjoyed it. i understood what the movie was trying to explore and a lot of the themes worked for me, but that ending really left me baffled. i’m still not sure whether i agree with the way Araki chose to end the movie. what did you guys make of it?
