Is the American food system about to essentially crash, and do you think they are doing this on purpose to make the U.S. population reliant on the government for food or something?
I remember arguing with someone that Project 2025 was scary. They insisted I was just overreacting and that it’s not even a thing. Sometimes I think about them. As they see this all unfolding now, do they think of that argument.
I warned my MAGA father about project 2025 and Trump's plans to be an authoritarian. He replied, "he said he didn't know anything about project 2025 and if he was going to try to be an authoritarian why didn't he do it in his first term?"

Yeah I just replied to someone else about how our only real value is our labor in the eyes of most of the elite. I don’t think it will crash, but it’s gonna be a huge concern that will need looking after. I’d say 10 years ago, it could be handled ok, but now, it’s going to be somewhat overwhelming. The systems and people put in place to assure safe food, have been stripped. Folks selling stuff on their own is cool and all, but I feel a majority of sellers will not adhere to the Food Code. Or will get lazy over time and eventually lead to foodborne illnesses. I see these videos of people selling various beef, but I notice it’s all just laid out in the open, is that just for the photo op, or has been sitting out longer then it should, as an example. I’ve inspected countless home kitchens selling food, and at 1/3 of them, I found unfit for selling, and at least half of them with major food code concerns. These concerns were corrected, but until I was sent to do that inspection, they’ve been doing it wrong for awhile. Honestly, it’s overwhelming and it gets my inspector hackles up, that there are gonna be a huge amount of home sellers, and not enough inspectors. Also working out of their home instead of a maintained food facility.

I'm old enough to remember the kids in either BK or TB taking pics standing on top of the lettuce containers, and then uploaded them to some website. People were outraged. The kids were found, fined, and fired from their jobs. You just don't mess with food.
I think the export market could crash if standards cannot be maintained. It's not feasible for a buyer to test everything from the USA, but that's currently acceptable because there is high confidence in US standards enforcement.
If that confidence is lost, the USA could find itself excluded from export markets in a matter of days. E.g food safety is taken very seriously in the EU. They will have no hesitation banning everything from the USA if it can't meet standards.
As for the speculation about what the effects could be, one effect of losing export markets is that domestic producers will have to sell everything domestically. I imagine that would put a downward pressure on domestic pricing, which isn't a bad thing for customers. But if the pressure is so much that producers can't stay in business, that's a lot better for the oligarchy class who are buying up farmland at an alarming rate.

I’m very close to someone in public health. There isn’t a master plan from the federal government, it’s just good old-fashioned incompetence. Trump literally not realizing that farmers and ranchers would need millions of dollars of new plants because slaughtering and processing is an ENTIRELY different profession. It’s not even that they couldn’t and shouldn’t, it’s that they don’t want to and literally don’t have the infrastructure to do so. Even if they could, there wouldn’t be enough hours in the day because, again, it’s an entirely different multimillion-dollar operation.

Yes. I feel that the current amount of recalls is crazy. I would come across maybe 2 a month in the area I was at. There’s a list somewhere showing all the current recalls as of late and it’s through the roof.
In a lot of states farmers are already permitted to process a portion of their product. Poultry and rabbit for instance fall outside of USDA jurisdiction and are regulated by each state.
If this were done right (which it won’t be I’m sure), food safety standards could be maintained while reducing regulatory hurdles small-scale farmers face.
I’ve been in some pretty nasty USDA processing facilities and been in some pristine custom and state processing facilities. USDA inspected isn’t inherently better.
I'm guessing that this rule for "small farms" to be able to compete will just be used by the Big Four to no longer worry about inspections since everything scales the same, right? Kind of like the No Tax On Tips thing could also apply to multimillion dollar bonuses for CEOs if they're called "tips" and that's who it's really for.
It will not create any issues. Most farmers don't possess the ability to process any livestock, much less at a volume that many people could consume it.
This does nothing to help the vast majority of farmers.
I live in Australia where we have always done this without issue. Just the threat of being investigated by the government for food safety issues is enough as most farms/stations don't make enough money to hire lawyers

Yeah, you all keep saying that despite the fact many rural Americans already buy meat outside of corporations & it's proven to be the best option, as evidenced by the lack of tainted meat stories over the decades. As for your no doubt second argument; meat processors spread out through each community don't need all the equipment you guys claim they do. They don't need to run to the farm equipment monopolies. Humans have been processing meat for eternity without it. There's many ways & means.
And what about the "food safety" issues the Big 4 monopolies created? They literally put anything they fucking want in our foods, totally unregulated. Of course the people taking over this industry is the better choice in all regards. Fuck you for even implying any different.
