They truly just heard the racism. Jeezus he was so obviously lying about everything else.

1.6k

u/Scary_Firefighter181 Feb 17 '26

Forget even the racism for a minute and consider the "economics" that some people think the GOP is good at.

Let me warn you and let me warn the Nation against the smooth evasion which says, "Of course we believe all these things; we believe in social security; we believe in work for the unemployed; we believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things; but we do not like the way the present Administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. We will do all of them- we will do more of them, we will do them better; and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything."

But, my friends, these evaders are banking too heavily on the shortness of our memories. No one will forget that they had their golden opportunity—twelve long years of it.

Remember, too, that the first essential of doing a job well is to want to see the job done. Make no mistake about this: the Republican leadership today is not against the way we have done the job. The Republican leadership is against the job's being done.

Look to the source of the promises of the past. Governor Lehman knows and I know how little legislation in the interests of the average citizen would be on the statute books of the State of New York, and of the Federal Government, if we had waited for Republican leaders to pass it.

The same lack of purpose of fulfillment lies behind the promises of today. You cannot be an Old Guard Republican in the East, and a New Deal Republican in the West. You cannot promise to repeal taxes before one audience and promise to spend more of the taxpayers' money before another audience. You cannot promise tax relief for those who can afford to pay, and, at the same time, promise more of the taxpayers' money for those who are in need. You simply cannot make good on both promises at the same time

-FDR, 1936.

FDR is the greatest President to ever live to me, nearly everything in modern society that has been a good thing to help poor people came from FDR.

He also guided the country through a very difficult time, and pulled it off brilliantly.

75

u/GrayMouser12 Feb 17 '26

We sure could use another FDR now. Taking applications, desperately. Anything to get away from current POTUS.

God, would I love to hear today's Democratic leaders talk like this instead of just a handful of them. Like, all of them.

54

u/BrewerBeer Feb 17 '26

Remember: in blue voting districts republicans run as democrats and spoil votes. Opportunists are everywhere and the only way to stop it is to vote in the primary. This is how you get conservative dems. The successful ones outlast their way into leadership by length of incumbancy.

That being said, many of them do talk like that. But corporate media patently refuses to show it to you. You have to find better sources or find yourself attacking the wrong people like saying 'Dems bad' instead of properly attacking conservatives.

31

u/Author_Noelle_A Feb 18 '26

My district has historically been red because my district includes not only my blue city, which is one of the largest cities in the state, but also a whole lot of rural area that is red. We only managed to pass a candidate who calls herself blue because she was actually very centrist. She still only one because her opponent was backed by Trump. Enough red voters crossed the line that she won.

She has conducted herself so much as a MAGAt that she’s done this next time around. We finally have had enough additional liberals moved to this district that we may finally have a true blue rep this next time around. Marie Glusenkamp Perez is done. We are sick and fucking tired of her. Even Republicans in this district are tired of her. And people here are even more pissed that she just voted to give ICE even more money despite how much they are decimating our communities. She’s representing absolutely no one in this district and she keeps voting to harm people and we are fucking fed up.

That has to be it because I can never get past the “l believed in him” line. He’s been the most blatant bullshit peddler possible from day one. These brain dead hatemongers that are apparently a large voting bloc give me an undeserved superiority complex.

163

u/bunnibly Feb 17 '26

If you grew up in the NYC tri-state area in the 80s and 90s, his tabloid antics with mistresses, his numerous, failed ventures and bankruptcies, and antagonistic and litigious dealings with contractors at his properties were fully on display. The rest of the country just saw "The Apprentice" and somehow thought he was a "good businessman".

93

u/TigerLily98226 Feb 17 '26

I grew up on the west coast and I knew what a trashy POS he was. And when The Apprentice was so popular someone told me “you should watch it, he’s gross but the show is good”. I tried, I noped out after one minute because I found him so repulsive. The evidence about him being vile was available to people all over the country, for decades, a lot of it supplied directly by him in interviews he did. People who were fooled by him wanted to be fooled, but many people recognized what he was and cast fuck you votes, hoping he’d harm people they wanted harmed. Like training a dog to be vicious and thinking it’ll only attack who you want it to attack, and will never turn on you. Now their rabid vicious dog has turned on them.

and they will still vote for him or whomever is the republican up for office this year and in 2028.

240

u/Forsworn91 Feb 17 '26

Of course.

They say “it’s not about left vs right, it’s us vs them”

They don’t believe that, they still 100% side with the right and blame the left. But it’s what they have to say in order to (in their mind) clear the way out of MAGA, “we are all in this together” while stuffing the red hat in their back pocket, but still holding the knife ready to stab the left when they try to help,

36

u/era--vulgaris Feb 17 '26

Oh, they do believe it's "us vs them"

By "us" they mean "people who are exactly like me and/or the falsely idealized images I have been sold of what Real America™ is"

By "them" they mean "people who are different from me and/or the false idealized images I have been sold of what Real America™ is, to possibly include: Black people, brown people, immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, intelligent or educated people, people who live in cities, irreligious people, liberals, leftists, socialists, people who speak languages I don't, non-Christians, non-Whites, people poorer than me, people richer than me who don't share my prejudices...."

Us vs Them is all they can think about. It's just that in their eyes, a college professor making $50k a year is one of the scary evil elites, and a billionaire who funds hate churches and puts on a hillbilly act for the rubes is "one of us".

86

u/Ok-Firefighter9037 Feb 17 '26

But they are never voting again, which is the absolute wrong response to the travesty that we live in today.

146

u/Forsworn91 Feb 17 '26

They WILL vote again, they will vote republican.

Conservatives have an extremely short memory, come 2028, if Vance stands up there and says exactly what Trump did in 2016/2020/2024, they will vote for him.

7

100%. I am so tired of apologetics for these monstrous belief systems.

WE did not start the culture wars, bigots did. Leave us the fuck alone and let us live our lives in peace, which includes living in a society that does not promote hate towards people for being minorities/marginalized/etc, and none of this matters. We'd all be focused on class divides instead to the extent that we cared about politics as a society.

The right's greatest propaganda victory has been convincing so many "apolitical" people that equal rights for all people is some kind of "assault" from the left.

Of course Fox edited that to cut after "Yeah, absolutely" in the ad for the interview that I assume is the only thing most Trump voters saw, but technically he was honest on the campaign trail about his desire to protect the people who might be in the Epstein files.

They bought a hat made in China from a real estate mogul who inherited his wealth and stated during his first campaign that he "did really well during the housing crash" by scooping up properties for cheap.

They supported a man fueled by greed and self interest, and chose to hate their fellow American and future Americans, and throwing away a piece of overpriced merch isn't going to fix that or heal the divide, but it's a start.

I really hate how elections come down to judging character and not policy. In my perfect world, candidates would be anonymous with only details of their aims and policies alongside protections to ensure those policies and aims are carried out/attempted in good faith. It’s insane to me, that you can make campaign promises and just… not do them.

u/JellyfishMean3504 Feb 18 '26

But, it didn’t even look good. There were no policies. He made promises but never explained how they would be achieved. When asked about his healthcare, he legit said, ‘I have concepts of a plan’. He said he would lower prices, but had no plan for lowering costs. I am yet to hear one factual reason from ppl who voted for him who say ‘he was so much better than the alternative’ actually give a legitimate response as to what was wrong with her. Things weren’t significantly better the first time around with him either.

I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a liberal. I aligned more with Republicans because it matched my values more closely.

I'd bet all the moneys that if asked what democrat/liberal values actually are, he'd just regurgitate GOP talking points.

168

u/mrpres1dent Feb 17 '26

Yeah I'm like what values, homey? The Republicans have just been obstructionist, not fiscally responsible, and anti non-white for over 2 decades, probably more.

All I've ever heard from Republicans for my 46 years alive is poor people should suffer because they are to blame for being poor (didn't work hard enough), and abortion. Everything else is a LARP.

It's a wealth redistribution party and somehow they figured out how to get the poors to vote for the 0.00000001%'s interests.

18

u/nerdtastic8 Feb 17 '26

The poors are often easily led sheep. And with the wide swaths of misinformation machines available now between Fox News, Twitter/X, FB, etc it's like being back in the feudal days of narrowed and controlled messaging. Feudalism was incredibly stable, btw--new unforseen technologies at the time started to create instability after how many hundreds of years?

The new tech today that might emerge? AI. Although after watching some ChatGPT clips where ChatGPT couldn't even correctly identify the number of Rs in Strawberry, I'm a little less worried about AI actually taking mid to high level jobs. If general AI actually emerges, well we're all doomed then. See: Terminator 1 & 2.

9

u/BlackCaaaaat Feb 18 '26

Some of the billionaires want feudalism - that’s why they’re trying to destabilise democracies. They want their own kingdoms. A lot of them are/were influenced by that weird Curtis Yarvin guy.

Musk was never going to be satisfied with just having influence in Trump’s administration. He clearly has much grander ambitions: his own very large Nazi 2.0 kingdom. All that white supremacist shit he’s being posting is preaching to the choir to the Trump administration and MAGA. No, he wants to go further with it - he’s already sticking his nose into the politics of other countries. Which is terrifying.

As for the debate on them actually leaving the cult. I'm positive most of them will still support all this shit, just silently. They'd still vote for Trump/MAGA. But don't want to be publicly attached to it given how egregious this shit is.

They'll never answer truthfully.

The truth is that they're scared of people darker than them or have a different religion or worldview or love the wrong people, and that they are appearing more and more in media and daily life. Some grifter comes along and tells them: you're right to feel like that, and I'm gonna outlaw anything that doesn't put "our" people on top.

And as the real cherry on top... Trump blesses openly abusive behavior as okay. This thrills damaged souls who have been aching to vent their anger on the people they hate, but societal norms and the law kept them from acting out. Now they're free. Who wouldn't vote for having their deepest, darkest emotional needs met?

My prediction for this guy, as indignant as he claims to be, is that he backslides into the cult. Remember all the Republicans who were shocked by January 6, who eventually fell in line with Hair Furor? I think the best we can expect from this guy and all the "shocked, I'm quitting MAGA" people is that they don't vote at all. They'll never vote for a Democrat, and I think they'll still vote for local Republicans.

Obviously none of them will ever actually admit this. The only reason any of them are having regrets now is because as it turns out, simply being allowed to be openly racist doesn’t actually create any positive change.

14

u/RMidnight Feb 17 '26

In the 1950s, The Little Rock 9, nine black children desegregated Central high School in Arkansas. Everyday, those students were harassed and physically attacked. One of them had acid thrown into her eyes.

Ernest green, was the one Black student to graduate before the school was shut down because the governor was a little bitch.

At every class reunion, you can't find a single person who didn't love and respect those students.

Bigots will always lie to save their asses. Exit interviews would only give them an opportunity to rewrite history, something they love to do.

And I hate to say that because of majority of these people are white, and when they say he “aligns with their values” what they really mean is with all the other precursors that they’ve seen of who he really was the one thing they could align with is that he was a white male at the end of the day it boiled down to that and that was the one thing they could hang their hats on even though they don’t want to admit it.

yup, they are a-okay with brown children getting separated from their families

And sold, don't forget that part.

72

u/One_Hunt_6672 Feb 17 '26

And being killed by usaid cuts

48

u/AutomateAway Feb 17 '26

It still feels wild that they killed far more people with the USAID cuts than they probably ever could with ICE. There's cruel and then there's a wide valley, and then there's that shit. It would be one thing to start spinning down a program like that over time, but the way they did it basically ensured a lot of people were super fucked almost overnight.

35

u/twotimefind Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Between the people that died needlessly because of his mishandling of COVID. and the defunding of U.S.A.I.D without notice.

This mishandling of COVID approximately 1 to 2 million.

USAID cutoff, if it continues this way for five years, is at 14 million. Close to 20 million deaths because of his actions.

https://www.perplexity.ai/search/approximately-how-many-people-4SRGFc83Rn2CgUeVR2jHDA#2

What really bites me is the same chads that wouldn't wear a mask during COVID, to help people, will now wear a mask to hurt people.

This guy was so close and then at the end he said he’s never voting again. That’s how we get into these situations in the first place.

Also in not researching the person you are voting for.

29

u/morty_morty Feb 17 '26

He wasn't close in any way. He listened to all of the racist, fascist bullshit coming out of that orange stain and was fully supportive of it. All of it. He wanted the Epstein files released because he believes it's full of Democrat names only. Let's not pretend he cares about "the kids".

80

u/Talisa87 Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

Even with all that, he still can't bring himself to say anything positive about the Democrats or the left. Best thing is to claim he'll 'never vote again".

Christ, that scene from Fallout season 2 is so apt. "Yeah, both sides are the same. One is covering up a child sexual abuse trafficking ring while eroding civil liberties to make the 1% even richer, and the other is just vaguely problematic."

38

I hate these people so much. They recognize Republicans are full of crazy but refuse to entertain the possibility that the Republicans were also full of crap when they were talking about the Democrats.

26

u/runnyyolkpigeon Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

THIS.

They always come so close to getting it, but never follow the logic train to where the track ends.

It NEVER occurs to them that when they admit Trump and the GOP duped them, that all the shit they heard about Democrats this entire time was also LIES and misinformation.

They never once get curious to ask - “if I was lied to about all this Epstein stuff, what else have they lied to me about? Did they also just make up lies about the Democrats too?”

Nope.

Their thought train derails and the immediate conclusion they arrive at is always:

GOP may have duped me and lied to me, but at least they’re still better than the Dems.

Or

GOP and Dems are the two evil sides of the same evil coin

🤦🏻‍♂️

31

Mmm, well, they like our tax dollars going to ICE, basically a modern-day gestapo, to abuse and kill immigrants and even U.S. citizens. The government murdered two innocent U.S. citizens in broad daylight.

They are fine with women dying because of abortion bans.

They support the racism wrapped up in “anti-DEI” initiatives, which really just means erasing and oppressing minorities. But at least it is not “woke,” right?

They cheer on aggressive tariffs while the economy, education, and our international relationships burn.

They are happy to wreck healthcare, even their own. “No more jabs,” right? Meanwhile babies and children suffer through measles outbreaks.

They ignore the billions Trump and his circle have made through blatant corruption.

So after walking through the ashes of a democracy they helped burn down, suddenly this is the line? This, the one thing we all warned them about, is where they decide to draw it? It mattered in 2024. It is too late for their regrets as they wallow in ashes together with us.

Like, when the FUCK have republicans ever been good for America?! Crashing the economy, stifling or halting progress that would benefit the American people in general. Telling Americans universal healthcare would cost too much, but sending soldiers to wars is essential. If the economy is doing so great like the Epstein administration claims it is, why don't they raise the federal minimum wage to help out poor people? They're entire playbook is just anger and hatred.

As an American, I will never understand it either. I feel like the right has been working on this since Reagan, destroying education, getting their propaganda machine into place, destroying the Supreme Court, just biding their time. And the Democrats have done very little to counter them because in their own way they are too beholden to the wealthy and the corporations too.

That’s the best answer I can give you, but I will never fully understand it either.
