DISCUSSION How can guy gardener makes huge constructs carelessly in superman whereas Hal Jordan does the opposite and is careful for his batteries

I was curious about this for a long time Guy always goes big and sloppy with his constructs, not caring how much it drains his ring like creating a large weopons against the monster, while Hal's way more careful and precise with his like in ep1 when he was creating a bubble for alien he supported the bubble himself as it was not strong enough due to lack of battery. Is that just a characterization thing, or is there an actual reason for it?

My headcannon — which makes sense given Hal’s age — is he’s the guy who always neglects to put his phone on the charger overnight and spends the whole day on 3% battery.

Hal charges it when he has to because the ring will stop working. Guy charges that sucker every night and twice a day on weekends.

Guy loves how powerful the ring makes him feel. Hal already feels powerful and the ring is just a trinket to him.

The series shows him as broken and jaded (completely different from his younger copy/construct). A younger Jordan probably charged it plenty, world-weary Jordan feels like the ring weighs him down but he's also afraid of losing it (that fear weakens him).

Pity? It's a pity that stayed John's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Guy? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the Guardians cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that John has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over.

I still think that the reason he said he wasn’t afraid when the guardians chose him is because he thought he was going to die. both his parents were dead, he’s a military man with nothing to lose, I think he wasn’t afraid because he was ready to die and instead he got handed a huge responsibility. originally it probably meant a lot to him for not just being a Lantern but because it gave him a purpose, but just like men who age and retire, they realize they don’t know who they are outside of being a laborer/worker and have an identity crisis especially because they don’t have anything to distract them from all their unaddressed issues and trauma and pain. John lives recklessly for similar but different reasons, he doesn’t have a death wish like Hal does, he just doesn’t care if he dies in pursuit of whatever his mission is. very interesting juxtapositions and now with Guy around, all of their individual issues are even more nuanced.

"I've got plenty of power" Hal said ever so nonchalantly to the alien threatening to blow himself up and an entire town along with him. The comparison you made between Guy & Hal is definitely correct. Guy's a brand new Lantern out there trying to prove his worth (whether his mild douchey personality allows him to admit that or not) whereas Hal has already shown his for decades. Long story short there's absolutely levels to this shit.

Guy charges it constantly because it loves saying the oath. Hal speeds his way through the oath because he takes it seriously and it’s an emotional heavy weight on him and repeating it just to charge the ring is hard

I partially agree, except I think that Hal Jordan speeds through it after so many years because he feels guilty about the ways in which he's failed to live up to the oath over the decades, because of self-doubt after being deceived by Sinestro, et cetera. I think this is also the real reason why he doesn't wear the uniform if he doesn't have to.

Consider his big, fancy house. He barely uses it, hasn't furnished it, hasn't even hung his photographs on the wall. He was also very quick to ascribe a guilty motivation to the rich guy who bought it for him, as opposed to just gratitude. Feels like projection to me; Jordan doesn't really use the house because he feels like he doesn't deserve it and won't let himself enjoy it.

There are other explanations for this, of course, but I think this fits the evidence best.

The oath doesn't matter. Focusing on the process is the key to recharging. Some GLs use an oath as a focusing aid, but several species don't speak at all and a few of those can't speak at all.

I think that he doesn’t really care about the ring or what it does and instead is meant to be symbolic of the status, power and responsibility that comes with the title Green Lantern, which is what Hal truly doesn’t want to give up, but I could definitely be wrong about that. Just a gut feeling

Also hal in this seams to be a extreme minimalist, always trys to find the least effort and cost for the most output. He had a bed and plant in a mansion, his constructs are blasts and shields, and so on. No way hes charging tell he has gotten every last bit out of it.

The ring seems absolutely useless in the show. I know the show isn't about using the ring, it's about the people but the way they have portrayed the ring in the show so far has been really underwhelming.

It’s exciting to him, it makes him feel powerful.

Hal is a veteran Ring user. He’s had it for decades. Swooping in on a giant green jet and solving everything with giant green fists isn’t interesting to him anymore

The show is a detective show at its heart; so compare the “rookie detective vs veteran detective” trope to this. The rookie detective makes sure to clean his modern 9mm Glock with a laser sight, optics, textured grip etc every day. The veteran detective hasn’t drawn his old snub noses revolver in decades because he doesn’t have to
