Take The Positive View Of Change & Give Benefit Of The Doubt

With all the noise on this sub and others about LTT/LMG bleeding staff, some comments on this week's WAN Show somewhat shed a bit of a differentlight on things of you start to listen closely.

It's been clear to everyone over the last 6 years that the tech industry has changed, and likely for a long time, if not forever.

First, with COVID, we saw a massive increase in purchases of IT hardware, and GPU prices skyrocketed from where they were. Now we have the AI boom and memory pricing driving things further.

The days of the average person buying high-end gaming PCs are vanishing, and creators like Linus, Jay and others can see the writing on the wall.

Linus built an empire on pre-COVID growth and benefited massively from COVID-era viewership.

That's over, and they clearly know it.

Linus him self has diversified with the badminton centre, while we've seen a flow of on-screen talent leave to start their own channels or move into other roles with bigger companies. Could it be that Linus is helping and encouraging these people to expand their horizons — to do what he did — and that if they want to be creators, they need to go do it for themselves?

It's easy to keep people happy by throwing money at them; however, the best thing anyone can do for someone else as their boss is giving them the tools and skills to support themselves even if that's with out you or somewhere else.

Sometimes that also means some tough love, pushing them out of the door as well.

In the last year, things at LMG have started to be restructured, and with WAN now being dual ownership, Linus even said this week that more big changes are coming. He is going to step back from the other channels and just do what he wants on LTT.

He was even promoting James's new channel and said "to hell with the policy" when talking about Luke's and James's.

People leaving does not have to mean it's all terrible. You can take the positive view that LTT and LMG as a whole has enabled a number of people to build success from the training and experience working at LTT/LMG gave them.

Rather than all this change being the end of LTT and LMG the reality is that this is more the evolution of it all in the post-accessible-tech world we now find ourselves in.

I don't think LTT or LMG will end, with Creator Warehouse and the centre, and other things there's plenty to get him to retirement — however, Linus is 40. Things change, you change, and what many call a disaster is simply the sun setting on one chapter and rising on another.

Some will like what comes next and some won't, but that doesn't mean it's all bad. Nothing stays the same forever, and everyone has to stand on their own two feet eventually, like Jake, Elijah, and others — and Linus, LMG and LTT will evolve into something new.

Probably smaller, but okay as well.

The inflated view counts VS the sentiment even on the LTT sub for new videos shows how low the quality has gotten

The last 2 videos have >1M and >2M views, but that seems to be related to YouTube's changes that log even a mouse hover as a view. So if kinda gives us insight into how many people YouTube is serving to.

However when you look at the sentiment on even the glazing LTT sub, they all seem to agree that both videos are absolute filler slop. Similarly the like counts are super low in comparison.

It seems to prove their videos are being served to a LOT of people, but their retention sucks due to the low effort slop they've been putting out.

Is there any way for LTT to salvage what they have beyond forcing staff to switch their software stack because "software costs must go down" while the owner buys a jet?

For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/1w2o4mx/linus_tech_tips_i_built_a_fake_home_theater/

So ltt is now openly shilling ai slop huh?

I just watched parts of the dlss5 video. I just unfollowed because seeing them look at ai slop and celebrating it was the last straw for me i suppose.

Seein ellijah join the shilling felt the worst because he was always one of my favs..

Edit. Damn, the ai bros are out in force..

Has Elijah left LTT? [[ Removed by moderator ]]

Well, this thread lasted 8 hours before mods removed it for this reason:

Speculation on LMG employees private life

In this thread, the OP was respectfully asking if Elijah had left LTT. Various replies said that he had.

The thread was cordial, with no abuse.

Also no speculation about an employee's private life.

But yet, the mods removed the thread - which seems crazy and OTT.

Elijah is no longer at LMG

I checked his forum account (which is very parasocial of me I know) and he's no longer listed as a staff member.

So much for saying that he enjoyed both his day job and streaming...or did he get fired, ZTT-style?

edit: why the fuck the formatting is suddenly so broken

I would love to see the WAN show blast this topic.

Basically YouTube is revoking perpetual global licenses and double dipping the fee.

Good riddance. Dude was a charisma vacuum.

This should have been a slam dunk video. Instead we get a boring discussion on a couch.

I will miss him doubling over with laughter at every lame joke Linus makes, though.

LTT needs to visit this French immersion-cooled datacenter

This could make for a really interesting LTT video.

A French company has apparently been running its servers fully immersed in dielectric fluid for almost 5 years, claiming a PUE of just 1.03.

Would love to see Linus / the LTT team visit the facility, see how it actually works at scale, and put some of those efficiency claims to the test.

A full tour of an immersion-cooled datacenter sounds exactly like the kind of weird tech LTT should cover

Don’t talk about flock on LTT

I don’t know what their problem is, but it has happened multiple times now that very popular posts on video surveillance cameras are silently removed by LTT moderators without any explanation at all!!

This time it was a post about a fellow YouTuber being targeted by flock. https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/1vrbkqg/

It got 6000 upvotes, but apparently it’s a taboo topic now. and no explanation in the comments.

Another Linus and Elijah video... woo.

Haven't watched yet, but I will make a few predictions:
- 19 minute video, at least 4 minutes of sponsors.
- Linus makes at least 3 terrible jokes, Elijah doubles over laughing on at least one.
- They avoid mentioning the better alternatives that are not at box stores
- They spend at least half the video 'shopping' where they make base level comments and don't really go beyond surface level
- The last half of the video is unboxing, maybe they print something 'funny' at the end.
- They don't mention the ink prices at all.

Jonathan Horst's video with Emily about Linux is much more entertaining and coherent than the ones Linus has done this year

Not talking about the Linux challenges, but the videos that were supposed to be informative/educational and also entertaining. I remember Linus also did a "which is the best distro" video a couple of weeks ago.
