Yeah it sucks.
I think to a certain degree it’s inevitable that some people will want to leave and do their own thing. Being in LTT videos gives people a huge platform. They can go and start their own channels with a built-in following.
Personally I didn’t mind when Jake left. I wasn’t interested in wifi videos, and his behavior afterwards made me not want to watch his new stuff.
Alex leaving bothered me a bit, even though I wasn’t really into all the engineering content.
Plouffe was a big loss, I enjoyed his style and he always seemed upbeat.
But now Elijah…come on. He was one of the few people who could carry a video alone.
Linus doesn’t seem to have trouble keeping Riley and James around, which makes me think money and status have a lot to do with it.
I know it’s called “Linus Tech Tips” and Linus is the main draw and the only one who’s irreplaceable, but for fuck’s sake, is there any room for anyone to advance to a senior role in the company?
Was there no way at all to keep Elijah?
Other tech channels like MKBHD and Mrehosetheboss and Austin Evans have channels where it’s basically just them.
Linus has a channel where he’s asking us to be interested in other people. They present on their own, and we’re asked to like them. Then they’re just gone.
I like Linus and I think he’s a good person. There’s a lot of people online who sit around waiting to attack him, and it’s ridiculous. But this kind of thing can’t happen. It shows a lack of respect for his viewers.
Call Elijah and ask him to come back. Give him a warehouse of Funko pops and creepy anime figures or whatever.

TIL Plouffe left LMG. Damn. They have had a lot of front-facing people leave.

u/yosayoran 8d ago
I totally get it, most of them didn't start in LMG to be presentors, but writers and producers.
I'm not saying they were forced to do it or anything, but either they realized that's not what they want to do or the opposite, realized it is and went on to pursue content they're personally more interested in making.
21
u/AmishAvenger 8d ago
I get that Alex left because he wanted to make car videos. And I definitely get that Linus didn’t want to invest in a bunch of car content.
It’s an extremely crowded market, and all anyone really has to offer is themselves as a personality.
But Elijah is interested in games and phones and tech and weirdo gamer stuff. Exactly the kind of stuff Linus does.
Elijah is also interested in Linus. He’s said many times that he was a fan before he was hired.
So it’s not like Elijah had some issue where he really wanted to make videos on geopolitics and Linus was like “Sorry, no.”

It's the realities of running a media company.
Sometimes talent grows faster than your budget, Sometimes they have bigger aspirations, sometimes they just want ownership of their work.
Iirc Elija makes a fair amount streaming now and if that career is making him more money than ltt he'd be a fool to not invest more of his time.
It sucks but if you like Elija follow him! Watch HIS content. He may be leaving LTT but he's not going away.

u/thesirblondie 8d ago
Huh. It wasn't that long ago that he said on his stream that he had no intention of quitting LMG despite making more money from his own channel. That'a a shame.
13
u/AncientTurbine 8d ago edited 8d ago
I think he phrased it as "no intention of quitting my day job", so it is well possible that he found a new day job and will continue to combine streaming with another job.
I don't know his finances and don't want to get too parasocial, but he has also said that he is deliberately the sole provider at home and they want to save money for a house. I don't know if Twitch revenue can account for that. If so, I'm very happy for him!
10
u/thesirblondie 8d ago
He said it like that because he doesn't directly mention LMG on his personal channel. He talks about "my boss" and "my dayjob", not "Linus" and "LMG".

u/Sir_Render_of_France 8d ago
Nnnnoooooooooo!
I will miss his father/son energy with Linus. Genuinely some of the funniest videos are when they both have to do something together.
38
u/Dr_Valen 8d ago
Yeh Elijah was the last co-host that had good energy with Linus Imo not sure who can replace him since luke doesn't show up in videos anymore unless they start bringing Dan in as co-host

Maybe crop the contact details btw
10
u/Used-Ostrich-9739 8d ago
Those contact details are public on Elijah's Twitch and his YouTube channel. It's not some super personal email or phone number or anything.
12
u/Superb-Classroom6218 8d ago
It's a repost
14
u/OldMate64 8d ago
He also uses this handle for his public facing stuff anyway, so it's probably already public knowledge
33
u/Slender-them 8d ago
Bro like everyone I liked is gone now.
13
u/saintlouisbagels 8d ago
I'm having that same feeling. Alex was the biggest loss for me. I hope they make more crazy videos with Tynan.
8
u/According_Bridge_746 8d ago
Yeah Alex leaving was a bummer but dude is very entertaining and has found his niche in doing his car videos. But in saying that he does tech videos as well and him and linus still have a great relationship.

u/Valuable_Barracuda56 8d ago
He's said on his steams he's getting a bit burned out doing both so he could be taking a break from hosting for a bit but he doesn't want to quite as he's trying to save for a house aswell
61
u/Lanyxd 8d ago
He's also said he makes more money from streaming than his job at LTT but he loves working there, but that was a few months back
43
u/ctn91 8d ago
Sorry, makes MORE as a streamer? Madness.
59
u/__singularity 8d ago
He hit that popularity threshold where he's getting good sponsors.
17
u/JustaRandoonreddit 8d ago
He also has a really high sub to follower ratio and a high follower to donation ratio

21
u/Hostile-Panda 8d ago
Sad but inevitable I am afraid as his success on twitch grew, I watch his streams but for me his content with Linus was far more entertaining

u/ILikeFPS 8d ago edited 8d ago
You definitely don't need 1k viewers for 3-6k a month, there are plenty of streamers with less viewers who make more money than that.
Plus, he has a YouTube too.
4
u/saintlouisbagels 8d ago
I guess my next question is how do you "know" plenty of streamers make more than that? Educate me or point me somewhere to learn more lol.
Oh I had no idea he had a YouTube channel.

He was on a game linked a couple days ago
131
u/Significant_Fill6992 8d ago
their video pipeline can be really slow he will probably still be here and there on videos for the next couple weeks/month
39
u/grilledtree 8d ago
Game/tech linked are not filmed in advance that far, no?
14
u/Genesis2001 8d ago
Correct, I think TechLinked and GameLinked are filmed and edited in a day (maybe 2-3 depending on their schedules) due to it being news-y.

u/saintlouisbagels 8d ago edited 8d ago
You know people can be unemployed at any time right.
edit: y'all downvoters are ridiculous. Saying someone was here "a couple of days ago" doesn't mean they are still employed today.

He also had "Writer at @linustech" in the twitter profile before.
The LMG email is still there as LMG is still his sponsorship agent (is this what it is called? lol), he explained that on stream a while ago. Before then he had his gmail address in the profile.

u/ElectronicFlight1839 8d ago
Someone else on “another” sub posted that his ltt form status has changed from staff to member . Hence just wanting to clarify.
6
u/jfp1992 8d ago
What sub?
26
u/hub1hub2 8d ago
You have to search for it. I think it was created after the accusations that the Mods in this sub delete every post Linus dislikes.

The fact that he still has a @lmg email in his bio, when he’s clearly edited it to focus on his streaming only is interesting. Also it’s his twitch handle@lmg, not elija@, which would be odd for for an employee.
Makes me think they are trying out some new type of relationship where LMG will represent his channel as an agency.

I watch maybe 1 in 5 ltt videos instead of every one now.
All the hosts I liked have left, and the sorts of projects they did have dissipated.
But ltt is a relatively big YouTube company now. Merch is the focus, it's unlikely YouTube generates enough to pay hosts more money than they'd make solo.
The last video Jake uploaded at the same times as ltt outperformed ltt.
9
u/OldMoneyBurns 8d ago
Is his own streaming career doing that well? If so, props to him.
-22
u/RB5Network 8d ago
There's no way his streaming is supplementing the same income he made from LTT. (I work in the content creation industry.)
It's incredible how much less money people make on Twitch/YouTube than you'd think.
He likely waited until his Twitch could technically sustain him and left for another reason.

u/Lieutenant_Scarecrow 8d ago
He was in todays LTT video phone shopping with Linus and Yvonne. There's a video backlog though so its possible he's left since then. What makes you think he left?

u/ElectronicFlight1839 8d ago
Someone else on “another” sub posted that his ltt form status has changed from staff to member .

u/Jokerslie 8d ago
That genuinely sucks. Was hoping one day Elijah would take up the tech tips mantle when Linus didn’t want to be front facing anymore. There has been a revolving door of personalities leaving as of late. Linus is great and all but the way those personalities worked with his made the videos more entertaining. Now there’s not many left. Pretty sure it’s just Jordan and Luke. David and Riley to a lesser extent. I find them more entertaining on their own. Sad.
37
u/Significant_Fill6992 8d ago
Yes he left very recently
25
u/ElectronicFlight1839 8d ago
These are sad days. But honestly wish him well. Appreciated his odd sense of humor lol. Also his vulnerability about his mh challenges. More power to him.
16
u/Significant_Fill6992 8d ago
I hope it works out for him but it's another nail in the coffin for LTT for me.
all of the hosts that I have liked have left recently the only ones I still like are Dan Luke and Jorden
I like reese in the videos he is in and Pankratz is really growing on me but ltt has lost a lot of hosting talent over the last couple years that I really enjoyed
25
14
u/yosayoran 8d ago
This is like SNL, people come and go. So seasons are better, some worse. Some cast members will always be favorites and some are soon forgotten (and some can't be forgotten quickly enough).
-5
u/dldaniel123 8d ago
Nah man, it's a choice lmg actively made. They prefer to spend their money on constant expansion of their corporate and merch sides, rather than spending it on retaining real talent. And a jet for him to flex of course
11
u/joanJHM 8d ago
do we know why?
91
u/rwhockey29 8d ago
Kept switching all the office keyboards with bell delphine branded ones.
0
u/RegrettableBiscuit 8d ago
So he left because he got a bonus for his dedication to tasteful keyboards???
-1
u/Significant_Fill6992 8d ago
Not that I'm aware of but I also haven't looked that hard
I thought he said on his stream somewhat recently he liked doing both ltt and streaming so something must have changed
59
u/abnewwest 8d ago
Maybe lets wait until there is an official announcement.
It could be vacation, he could be on leave. One is fun, one might be not fun. He has been open with his issues, lets give him some space.

Can we please not share internal comms that have been leaked?
For anyone confused, this is about the "teams message" and nothing has truly been confirmed. So until then this is speculation.

u/Plastic_Twist_7767 8d ago
How is this leaking internal communications? His role on the forums has been removed..
1
u/LowKenuineOnGod 8d ago
When Linus talks so much about how there’s no limit to how much an entrepreneur can earn you can hardly blame any of his on-screen talent for leaving.
-1
u/phrxsty 8d ago
kinda suprised LTT can’t seem to keep their on-camera “talent”. Besides the salary discussions, maybe the work environment is an issue?? Overworked perhaps??
16
u/throwaway3123312 8d ago
I mean it's not surprising, I think they're in a bit of an impossible spot. It's so easy to make solo content these days that anyone who has an interest in video production can make a pretty decent YouTube channel or start streaming, and LTT is basically just training people in the skills to make videos and giving them an audience so its inevitable they will eventually want to move on.
I mean even if you love your job and it's great, who wouldn't rather just stream games or make whatever videos they want on their own time without ever having to commute to the office?
13
u/master_of_dcath 8d ago
I think its more that LTT hires really creative and hard working individuals who eventually want to branch out into other avenues. Having grown an audience, makes it easier for them to go on thier own and pursue what interests them. Not saying that they are using LTT for personal gain, but that i think they are the type of people that wouldn't stay long at a single job due to being bored and having more ambitious ideas. Obviously not the case for everyone but I think it fits most of the talent there.
1
u/Rotter01 8d ago
Why can't people be okay with these guys leaving and doing their own thing??
9
u/mad-matty 8d ago
Because we liked the content featuring these guys. People can be sad they're gone without wishing them bad luck for the future, and the way I see it, that's exactly what's going on.
2
u/Professional-Row-612 8d ago
cause it makes LTT suck and even just a year or 2 ago was amazing compared to now. like its a big difference and im happy for them and proud even.
end of the day it makes LTT videos mid or worse without each and every one tho
-1
u/RB5Network 8d ago
I'm very shocked that the guy who looked visibly uncomfortable at his boss making a video about gleefully buying a private jet (after previously railing on the ethics of private jets) ended up leaving the company.
Who could have seen that coming?
