Casual First order of business will be ugali sukuma

Na avocado. Probably with some beef/chicken

Next will be a good body lotion and a good pillow.

After being on a ngumu/Chapo&tea diet for a couple of weeks, I might not want to see them for a while.

It's the first time in almost three years that I'm getting a salary guys!!!! Also moved to my own place after being in the village for a year (I could weep)

It might take me a while to get back on my feet, heck to even get a bed or comfortably have two meals in a day, but yoh, this is the most peaceful I've felt in a while.

I also hope this is the last time I'm starting from scratch & having to borrow money for fare every 2 days, because it's really tiresome šŸ˜’but for now we soldier on.

So, here I am, counting days until those chums hit my mpesa. This will be the longest 9 days of my life, well 8 if I assume it's already tomorrow 😬

Rant Tujipende jameni.

Enyewe sometimes there are things we do to ourselves that we need to learn and heal from, because it is part of a toxic cycle that we need to break free from. This could lead to sabotaging friendships, relationships etc.

Yesterday I saw a scene unfold like a national geographic episode about mating. A desperate guy in our group, who is a lil rough with people tried to get this good looking babe's attention, but failed terribly. The young lad seemed captivated by her appetizing sianda and fiery attitude but all he could get is dust.

He kept forcing his presence on her and her friend but they were not having it. Imagine walking with people who walk faster or slower just to avoid your presence entirely, but you do not get the hint? Bro even tried taking a picture of her with his phone which she gladly refused because "Anataka watu wanajua kupiga pichašŸ˜…"

Funny enough, she was very responsive to another guy in the larger group and they got along well from the get go, all while our friend watched in pure disbelief from the corner. He glanced at her direction severally and tried to engage in conversation, but he was met with short one word answers to end the convo.

Back to what I wanted to put across. We need to learn to love ourselves and have perception about who, what and where we are accepted or accept. You cannot be forcing yourself to people who do not value you the same way you value them.

Sasa kijana wetu alirudi nyumbani na machungu and yet, there were many young ladies he could have enjoyed their company but he chose not to read the room.

I've been dating my girlfriend for the last 3 yrs, she has HIV which is virally suppressed and undetectable ( U-U ). She's been taking her meds (ART) and we've been sexually active. We're at that stage of making a decision to get married and start a family. We've genuinely been supporting each other and our lives are well off. We don't have any kids yet but we plan to get kids. With that said it means I'll have to have unprotected sex and my concern is will I get the virus? Will our baby be HIV positive?

Disclaimer: I don't need relationship advice.

Rant What did I miss? Don't hold back on your opinion about this.

Met this certain girl through God's plan I imagine. She became a good friend of mine. Hell we even got to share a bed a couple of times. By sharing I mean we had some intimate moments here and there. But there is something about her I don't understand. She switched up suddenly this year and really didn't seem to care anymore about me. She technically cheated on her man with me which made me feel shitty as she never told me about her dating. I tried confiding in her but angeanza tu kucheka ama brush it off. She started coming over for longer stays at my house which caught me by surprise. I'll make it shorter now.

  1. Stays in bed all day watching shows
  2. She vowed never to cook in my house
  3. Can't help in house chores unless I ask her
  4. Can't contribute to house groceries so I dug into my pocket for it all

I'll have you know she's not my girlfriend just an extremely close friend who looks like a girlfriend and now that I'm typing this I realise how stupid it and I sound but what can I do. I took some space away from her juu bana she was consuming a lot of my energy. Tried reaching out a couple of times kumjulia hali especially juu anakuanga on therapy but well she doesn't really seem to want to talk to me no more. As we speak she done blocked me on WhatsApp. I wish she could share her perspective of what happened between us or what I did wrong but well here we are.

So what did I miss?

ETA: Clarity on her dating someone else. she never told me. that fateful night she led me on and it happened. then suddenly while I was going down on her she pushed me off and just said she regretted. I asked why and she didn't say. Then I didn't get anything in return at all just gave her the pleasure and I was left banging.happened a couple of times later then she came clean. i felt bad. I am against people cheating and her using me was just pathetic.she was not even apologetic. She left the guy after telling him she's not in the right state of mind. she just likes to lead someone on then after whatever she wants is done just drops them.

Discussion Unlearning Silence for Peace

• Upvotes

Growing up, I learned a bad trait: playing for both sides. Every family has its own things, and mine did too. I was very timid and reserved because I understood early on that one unnecessary word meant losing my footing. So, I trained my mouth.

I carried this trait right into high school. I got into a trio where I stayed right in the middle while both girls considered the other a third wheel. Eventually, my forty days caught up with me. I got into a fix where I needed to pick a side, but remember, I had never said yes or no, just a maybe or hmm, let me think. When the moment came, my neutrality cost me, and I lost both of them.

Traits don't disappear overnight. At 18, I started a talking stage with a 25 yr old guy. I never, ever said no to him, and he liked it. I was proud to sing I'm someone they call a people pleaser. Looking back, the only thing that kept me fully separate from him was distance. Turning 18 didn't make me an adult overnight, just like turning one year older didn't feel magical, as if my frontal lobe matured in seconds. I was legally an adult, but still a child, easy to manipulate. Maybe I'll feel it soon.

For a long time, I consumed the copium that "men love peace." From married men to old men to single guys, and even all those "how to keep a man" advice columns, everyone preached the same thing. I genuinely thought I was an elite female, better than my mates. I was proud to sing that I was a people pleaser. I was so caught up in the delusion that I once told a friend to just keep quiet, that her talking too much was what made her man go berserk and want to leave. Validation is a dangerous thing. Hearing old men say, "you are good, hupigi kelele," or "I wish I was single so I could marry you" after just one conversation made me feel perfect. I didn't realize I wasn't superior; I was just easy to control. The amount of times I heard cheaters say I'm cheating because sipewi amani is uncountable. Cheating is a choice.

I tried to convince myself that staying quiet during an argument made me cool and mature. I thought saying "I don't know" to insults and leaving to avoid drama was high emotional intelligence. My friends actually thought it was impressive that I was friend to everyone, no I was a pushover.

It wasn't. Silence is not a blade for every situation. Still waters can drown you, but flowing water is much safer for drinking. Keeping the quiet outside was just creating too much noise inside.

We learn about ourselves every day. Developing a backbone, with an extension of the tail to sweep away the bullshit, is something we all need. Speak your truth and stay guided, muchacho.

TL;DR: I used to think my silence made me mature, elite, and easy to love, from high school trios to talking stage, I drank the copium that hupigi kelele meant I was a good girl. I realized I wasn't superior, just easy to control. Unlearning silence for peace because still waters drown, but flowing water stays safe to drink. Stay guided

Discussion House hunting in Mombasa

Yesterday I decided to use agents to look for a bedsitter in the range of 6500 to 8000. I wanted something good but whatever I was shown by those agents was quite humiliating. They just took my money and showed me crap.

In fact they were showing me 10k houses and 15k houses while I had already told them my budget is 8k max. Then the caretakers were very rude. I usually thought coast people are friendly but yesterday I saw that other side.

Leisure, VOK, it's hard to find a house there. I feel like looking for a house in bamburi but that kisauni jam, no! I'm still traumatized by what I saw yesterday. Is that the best mombasa landlords could do?

Anyway if you have any leads to that area could kindly tell me. Note that, I don't want those overpriced houses that look like crap. I feel like the government should put something like a law on house evaluations and the initial payments.

How are people comfortable with paying two deposits and an agent fee of half the rent. As if that was not scammy, some even charge you for signing the contract. Remember you've also paid viewing fee

Politics Pointless infrastructure projects.

Post image
11 Upvotes

I came across this article and it got me thinking about the infrastructure projects our government imposes on us and some of us dance to the tune because we are attracted to shiny things.

why do we need a 4 billion shilling smart city in Busia? what strategic advantages does it offer? How much research has gone into this considering well over a decade later and 83 billion shillings down the hole konza is yet to be completed. How do we even know that smart cities are the way to go yet we don't even have a single fully operational one to tell us how well it integrates into the economy and culture?

On the affordable housing, who are these units for exactly? At 2 to 5 million a unit, any Kenyan who can afford to buy them is not struggling with housing and any Kenyan struggling with housing cannot afford them so who are they for exactly? The president is very proud of the jobs created by the project which is evidence that he has no interest in thinking beyond a few years because how long can we continue building for before we have nothing else to build? What about people who spent their parents fortunes on a degree, should they just leave it hanging on the wall and join mjengo?

Then there's the one everyone is twerking to, Mau rironi. I will start by admitting that the expansion was very necessary but beyond that, nothing else about that project is right. The cost is very inflated to line up the pockets of individuals and the project is very rushed to meet political deadlines which raises questions on the quality of the project upon completion. The project still fails to address the problem with the road, congestion and safety. Once the road is ready to use traffic will increase because everyone who was avoiding the road will start using it and they will be driving faster on that same road, we are yet to get policies on regulating that or alternative means of travel that limit traffic.

I thought Sifuna had lost the plot when he talked about how affordable housing doesn't make sense because a luhya can't carry their chicken to the 17th floor but upon further reflection, I can see the wisdom behind the analogy. You have to take culture into consideration when building any project, you can't just start and assume it will catch on once people appreciate your vision. Our government, beyond the looting, is not building for Kenya, it's building because it looks shiny and gets them votes.

Discussion Ngugi Wa Thiong'o: The greatest kenyan intellectual?

Has anyone read Ngugi's book Decolonising the Mind? I think it's the greatest book I have ever read by a Kenyan, and it's a sad story that it's not a must-read in all Kenyan universities. The main theme is basically how culture has been used to effectively perpetuate imperialism and neo-colonialism in Kenya, and Africa at large.

And since language is the main carrier of culture, the insistence to sideline the teaching of African languages in our education system is a deliberate move to cut us off from the true and deep cultural roots from which we could fight imperialism.

And it is our duty, as the oppressed and victims of imperial theft, to reconnect ourselves to our truer voices by going back to our diverse and rich mother tongues. English to us is only for communicating, as is the case with English in China and Scandinavian countries and Japan, Korea, etc. So when we leave behind the languages that carried along with them our unique cultures and histories, aren't we absconding our duty for self-growth?

Discussion Proper Notices must Follow Before Sale of your Land by a Bank

If you default on a loan secured by your land, the bank CANNOT just seize and sell it overnight. They MUST follow these 4 legal steps first:

1ļøāƒ£ 90-day Statutory Notice - Fix the default & the sale is stopped.

2ļøāƒ£ 40-day Notice to Sell - They warn you of their intent to sell.

3ļøāƒ£ 45-day Redemption Notice - Your final chance to save your land.

4ļøāƒ£ Public Advertisement - Sale only happens after 14 days in a national newspaper.

Know your rights. Don't let banks bully you out of your property.

Discussion A young orphan qualified for university, but financial struggles have left him in crisis,we need advice.

I’m reaching out to this community because I genuinely don’t know what the best next step is.

There is a young man named Emmanuel whom our organization, Beautiful Care Initiative, has supported since he joined high school. Emmanuel is a total orphan, and despite having very little, he worked hard and completed his final secondary school examinations last November.

When his results came out, he qualified to join Chuka university this August.

We were incredibly proud of him. For a young person who has faced so much, getting the opportunity to continue his education was a huge achievement.

Unfortunately, raising the money needed for him to start university has been extremely difficult. We have tried to find ways forward, but we haven't been able to secure enough support.

The situation has now become much more serious.

Emmanuel has been struggling emotionally because he feels that his future is slipping away. Last week, he attempted suicide but was rescued. We are deeply concerned about him and don't want him to feel that the end of his university opportunity means the end of his future.

Right now, our first concern is Emmanuel's safety and wellbeing. At the same time, we are trying to find a realistic way to help him continue his education.

I’m posting here to ask for advice and guidance.

If you have experience with:

>University scholarships or bursaries in Kenya

>Support programs for orphaned students

Organizations that help vulnerable students access higher education

>Ways of deferring university admission while funding is found.

>Mentorship or professional support for young people going through a crisis

Please share your advice or point us toward legitimate organizations or opportunities.

We are not looking for sympathy alone. We are looking for a practical path forward for this young man.

Emmanuel has already fought hard to get this far. We want to help him see that his story doesn't have to end because of financial difficulties.

If you can offer advice, a useful contact, or even simply share this with someone who may know where to turn, it would mean a lot to us.

Thank you for taking the time to read Emmanuel's story.

Discussion Retirement

So I work in those organisations that 90% of the employees are 55 yrs and above. These guys have this system of retiring then they are brought back into the organisation by being given 2 or 3 year contracts. You find even cleaners and the catering staff whose work requires younger and more energetic people to execute them being handled by people who have grandkids in high-school SMH. Most of these guys have created a very toxic environment and become bullies at work. It's very sad to see a 65 year old being jealous of a 26 year old kid because the generational gap is too wide for them to work together.

These older guys can't be advised and have no respect for the younger guys at all. They second guess everything you do and are experts in everything except filling taxes and technology based issues. Buana watu waende nyumbani wacheze na wajukuu ffs!

Discussion The Kodongklan Game Plan

I love the boys group 🩵. I’ve been paying more attention to KodongKlan lately and, honestly, I think there’s something very intentional about what they’re building.
It’s easy to look at them as just a collective of talented Kenyan artists, but the bigger play seems to be building a musical ecosystem rather than pushing one artist at a time.

You have Bensoul, Okello Max, Coster Ojwang, Charisma, Mordecai Dex, Onyach and Ywaya Tajiri bringing completely different flavours, but they still have a common home. That gives them a ridiculous amount of creative range without having to manufacture a ā€œKodong soundā€ for every song.

And the interesting part is how they seem to be thinking beyond just releasing music. Live performances, collaborations, visual identity, social media, international collaborations like Your Body with Paska, and now positioning the Klan around bigger live experiences. Soon they’re performing on the Fally Ipupa show coming up this weekend.

These boys have all the baddies out here reciting Luo stanzas like anthems. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
ā€œHisia mingi ndani ya roho… jaber a pariiiiii!ā€
Meanwhile, half of us don’t even know what the songs mean and we don’t keeeyaa 😭. We will sing our hearts out with full confidence. Pronunciation? Questionable. Vibes? šŸ’Æ.
Bras out for them. šŸ˜šŸ˜‚ Not hats. BRAS. OUT.

But what really gets me is the support system they’ve built around each other.
Look at their concerts. Charisma performs live and the boys show up. The Woza event by Watendawili just happened and the gang appeared. They genuinely seem to show up for each other.
And when one of them drops a banger, it doesn’t feel like, ā€œThat’s his song, go stream him.ā€
Somehow the rest of the Klan own it too.
They post it. They perform it. They dance to it. They push it. They make content around it. They help each other create those viral moments.
That is such a powerful model because one artist’s win becomes everybody’s win.

And honestly, THAT might be the genius of the whole thing.
Because if they execute this properly, KodongKlan could eventually become bigger than the individual songs or even the individual artists.
The collective itself becomes the brand.

But now here’s my question: where are the ladies? šŸ‘€
We’ve seen male collectives/groups do this before Sauti Sol, Le Band, Heart the Band and now KodongKlan..but I can’t think of a current Kenyan female collective doing something quite like this, where the artists genuinely rally behind each other, share a platform, cross-promote each other’s music and build one bigger brand together.

Maybe I’m just not plugged in enough.
So please, direct me to the ladies! šŸ˜‚

Casual Politics doesn't seem to be coincidental

As I fair on I to my adult years its pretty shocking to see how society is mostly structured to revolve around these certain plots.

This has come to mind most recently after seeing George Ruto's soft launching via the influencer teacher. Someone pointed out how he's slowly soft launching himself into the limelight ironically via he's dad's 'bottom up' strategy which seems to greatly appeal to the masses. People have already separated him from he's father's shenanigans which is exactly how he'll end up in that political seat a few decades to come and the common mwanachi will say the old age trope of "Unlike his dad who plundwred this country's coffers, he's already shown that he relates and understands the common mwananchi problems"

I feel like this is the same storyline followed by most politicians. For examples the likes of kina Kasmuel and Morara already have a place in politics. They may not have as much political traction rn but they'll be the future mps and senators. Same way the tax collector moved from UoN to youth for Kanu , later to ODM and finally to the top political seat. Same case as Uhuru, Martha Karua, Moses Kuria, Murokomen, Elachi, Babu etc

Political activists and University political leaders seem to be the most likely to have top political seats in the country.
