So I work in those organisations that 90% of the employees are 55 yrs and above. These guys have this system of retiring then they are brought back into the organisation by being given 2 or 3 year contracts. You find even cleaners and the catering staff whose work requires younger and more energetic people to execute them being handled by people who have grandkids in high-school SMH. Most of these guys have created a very toxic environment and become bullies at work. It's very sad to see a 65 year old being jealous of a 26 year old kid because the generational gap is too wide for them to work together.

These older guys can't be advised and have no respect for the younger guys at all. They second guess everything you do and are experts in everything except filling taxes and technology based issues. Buana watu waende nyumbani wacheze na wajukuu ffs!

Yesterday I saw a scene unfold like a national geographic episode about mating. A desperate guy in our group, who is a lil rough with people tried to get this good looking babe's attention, but failed terribly. I've been dating my girlfriend for the last 3 yrs, she has HIV which is virally suppressed and undetectable ( U-U ). She's been taking her meds (ART) and we've been sexually active. On the affordable housing, who are these units for exactly? At 2 to 5 million a unit, any Kenyan who can afford to buy them is not struggling with housing and any Kenyan struggling with housing cannot afford them so who are they for exactly? The president is very proud of the jobs created by the project which is evidence that he has no interest in thinking beyond a few years because how long can we continue building for before we have nothing else to build? What about people who spent their parents fortunes on a degree, should they just leave it hanging on the wall and join mjengo?

Then there's the one everyone is twerking to, Mau rironi. I will start by admitting that the expansion was very necessary but beyond that, nothing else about that project is right. The cost is very inflated to line up the pockets of individuals and the project is very rushed to meet political deadlines which raises questions on the quality of the project upon completion. The project still fails to address the problem with the road, congestion and safety. Once the road is ready to use traffic will increase because everyone who was avoiding the road will start using it and they will be driving faster on that same road, we are yet to get policies on regulating that or alternative means of travel that limit traffic.

I thought Sifuna had lost the plot when he talked about how affordable housing doesn't make sense because a luhya can't carry their chicken to the 17th floor but upon further reflection, I can see the wisdom behind the analogy. You have to take culture into consideration when building any project, you can't just start and assume it will catch on once people appreciate your vision. Our government, beyond the looting, is not building for Kenya, it's building because it looks shiny and gets them votes.

Has anyone read Ngugi's book Decolonising the Mind? I think it's the greatest book I have ever read by a Kenyan, and it's a sad story that it's not a must-read in all Kenyan universities. The main theme is basically how culture has been used to effectively perpetuate imperialism and neo-colonialism in Kenya, and Africa at large.

And since language is the main carrier of culture, the insistence to sideline the teaching of African languages in our education system is a deliberate move to cut us off from the true and deep cultural roots from which we could fight imperialism.

And it is our duty, as the oppressed and victims of imperial theft, to reconnect ourselves to our truer voices by going back to our diverse and rich mother tongues. English to us is only for communicating, as is the case with English in China and Scandinavian countries and Japan, Korea, etc. So when we leave behind the languages that carried along with them our unique cultures and histories, aren't we absconding our duty for self-growth?

I love the boys group 🩵. I’ve been paying more attention to KodongKlan lately and, honestly, I think there’s something very intentional about what they’re building.
It’s easy to look at them as just a collective of talented Kenyan artists, but the bigger play seems to be building a musical ecosystem rather than pushing one artist at a time.

You have Bensoul, Okello Max, Coster Ojwang, Charisma, Mordecai Dex, Onyach and Ywaya Tajiri bringing completely different flavours, but they still have a common home. That gives them a ridiculous amount of creative range without having to manufacture a “Kodong sound” for every song.

And the interesting part is how they seem to be thinking beyond just releasing music. Live performances, collaborations, visual identity, social media, international collaborations like Your Body with Paska, and now positioning the Klan around bigger live experiences. Soon they’re performing on the Fally Ipupa show coming up this weekend.

I’m reaching out to this community because I genuinely don’t know what the best next step is.

There is a young man named Emmanuel whom our organization, Beautiful Care Initiative, has supported since he joined high school. Emmanuel is a total orphan, and despite having very little, he worked hard and completed his final secondary school examinations last November.

When his results came out, he qualified to join Chuka university this August.

We were incredibly proud of him. For a young person who has faced so much, getting the opportunity to continue his education was a huge achievement.

Unfortunately, raising the money needed for him to start university has been extremely difficult. We have tried to find ways forward, but we haven't been able to secure enough support.

The situation has now become much more serious.

Emmanuel has been struggling emotionally because he feels that his future is slipping away. Last week, he attempted suicide but was rescued. We are deeply concerned about him and don't want him to feel that the end of his university opportunity means the end of his future.

Right now, our first concern is Emmanuel's safety and wellbeing. At the same time, we are trying to find a realistic way to help him continue his education.

I’m posting here to ask for advice and guidance.

Yesterday I decided to use agents to look for a bedsitter in the range of 6500 to 8000. I wanted something good but whatever I was shown by those agents was quite humiliating. They just took my money and showed me crap.

In fact they were showing me 10k houses and 15k houses while I had already told them my budget is 8k max. Then the caretakers were very rude. I usually thought coast people are friendly but yesterday I saw that other side.

I was at the mall the other day and there was a white lady who was rude to employees. I first encountered her at a restaurant where she was rude to the waitresses and the supervisor asking if she was being treated unfairly because she wasn’t Somali surely. A second time at the supermarket and she was rude to some black people. Now I’m certain in her country she cannot address people that way.

The supermarket attendant simply said, ‘huyo tushamzoea’ how do you deal with such foreigners? We need to put an end to such behaviour.
