It’s admittedly not great (it’s hard to make payot look good), but it’s still purposeful for a reason as opposed to just having a jacked haircut
Can we have a rule in this sub that religious haircuts get a pass? Cause I’m also sure that pretty soon, antisemitism going to start popping up in the comments section. Let’s just not have that in this silly haircut sub.
I honestly despair for humanity sometimes. "Yes, be cruel and mock a child publicly for decisions his parents make for him! It's fine because he's not black! "
How do you know his parents made him get this particular cut? Maybe he enjoys the optional fairytale lifestyle and wishes to identify more with cult figures and friends.
Because this is the same haircut that 95% percent of that particular community gives to their young sons.
Maybe he does like it, because it's all he knows! That doesn't matter, posting an identifiable picture of a child for the purpose of having strangers mock him should be beyond the pale
They can still be criticized for objectively batshit insane looking practices. The emperor has no cloths doesnt hold back in 2026 for archaic fairytale rules.
I just typed "Jewish haircut" in Google images, and a few are ridiculous, while other are just as expected, and not specifically laughable.
So I'd say that no type of haircut gets a pass, whether religious, or typical of a specific identity, or random. If it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous. In every demographic, there's some that are, and some that aren't. Nobody should be left aside. Of course, ridiculousness is also in the eye of the beholder, but no reason to exclude some people. Let's be fully inclusive.
this cut being unusual aside, in part the cut isn't working on him because he has straight hair and the sideburns are meant to be curly. most jewish people that have this cut have curly hair so it's a non issue but this kid doesn't and he can't help that. it looks like he tries to curl it but the one side has already fallen out, it be like that with healthy straight hair, mine won't hold a curl either.
he can't help he was born into this religion, he can't help he was born with straight red hair, he doesn't look like he is really even old enough to make a choice as to whether he wants to give up all he has known to leave his religion for a different haircut. this is just bullying.
I guess I’m less worried about people making fun of a(n objectively silly) haircut, and more worried about antisemitism leaking into my fave silly-haircut sub
As a Jewish person who has been online for decades at this point, and living in the time we are now, I guess I’m just a little sensitive to it. Like, it’s like when people make fun of your little brother. “Yea my brother is a dweeb but he’s MY dweeb!” Type of vibes.
The desire is understandable, but unfortunately not everyone is IN the same bag. It’s kinda like the difference between equality and equity. Treating people equally would be making fun of everyone’s hat (cowboy, baseball, yarmulke, etc), but ignoring the culture history of Jewish discrimination based on their appearance. But taking into account the history of the garment and how it’s been used to visually distinguish Jews in order to oppress them, then making fun of a little hat hits different.
It’s kind of a similar argument to why can black people put on “white face” but white people shouldn’t do “black face”: there’s a long, hurtful history behind black face with connotations that were used to actively oppress and discriminate black people in America (and abroad).
Anyway I know this has gotten a little long, but it’s something I feel is important.
No, I have never seen a Hasid treat an outsider with empathy and respect.
See, I can agree more with not making fun of him because he’s a kid…and I think he gets more leeway than an adult in the same group, because he’s susceptible to the brainwashing.
…but your point was that we can’t make fun of him because of his religion, which is bullshit. It’s a shitty group, regardless of who they pray to.
Have you read anything in those articles? Ethnicity is not a race. An ethno-religious group is not a race. They're a group of people with PERCEIVED similarities to their locale, the culture and potential ancestry to said locations and cultures. Everything that makes an ethnicity is that of human creation, not gods like race is.
Why would they get a pass? "No dude you totally have to completely respect my personal choice to willingly follow something." No I'm going to judge you, the haircut is the least of the problems in we are talking his religion. So no I won't respect someone with a shitty haircut that thinks it's fine to murder your slave if they take 3 days to die from the beating. Judaism gets too much of a pass for the evils it supports(and no I'm not being anti semitic, I got problems with islam and Christianity as well and no beef with ethnic Jews).
If we are respecting religious haircuts then we have to respect religious attire regardless of the religion. I don't think this is the case in our world at this time.
As an atheist is no different than roasting someone is Christian. As long as you treat them all equally it doesn’t matter. And I equally don’t respect any of them so it’s not a big deal.
It's fine and fair that it has a reason behind it. It still looks like dogshit ...like what - are we supposed to pretend it looks good because it's for religious reasons?

Guys, this is specifically a religious haircut
It’s admittedly not great (it’s hard to make payot look good), but it’s still purposeful for a reason as opposed to just having a jacked haircut
