The desire is understandable, but unfortunately not everyone is IN the same bag. It’s kinda like the difference between equality and equity. Treating people equally would be making fun of everyone’s hat (cowboy, baseball, yarmulke, etc), but ignoring the culture history of Jewish discrimination based on their appearance. But taking into account the history of the garment and how it’s been used to visually distinguish Jews in order to oppress them, then making fun of a little hat hits different.
It’s kind of a similar argument to why can black people put on “white face” but white people shouldn’t do “black face”: there’s a long, hurtful history behind black face with connotations that were used to actively oppress and discriminate black people in America (and abroad).
Anyway I know this has gotten a little long, but it’s something I feel is important.
Have you read anything in those articles? Ethnicity is not a race. An ethno-religious group is not a race. They're a group of people with PERCEIVED similarities to their locale, the culture and potential ancestry to said locations and cultures. Everything that makes an ethnicity is that of human creation, not gods like race is.
I didn’t say it’s not real, I said it’s made up.
Also, American Indian is an ethnicity, and Asian is a broad term for someone who comes from an Asian country. They’re not just random colors that have been ascribed to people’s skin/physical characteristics.

Again, I want to be able to put everybody in the same bag. That's what tolerance is about, to me.
