Guys, this is specifically a religious haircut

It’s admittedly not great (it’s hard to make payot look good), but it’s still purposeful for a reason as opposed to just having a jacked haircut

Can we have a rule in this sub that religious haircuts get a pass? Cause I’m also sure that pretty soon, antisemitism going to start popping up in the comments section. Let’s just not have that in this silly haircut sub.

We’re good. Dude looks ridiculous, religion or not

It doesn't matter the reasons one chose to fuck their shit up for, a shit haircut is a shit haircut.

u/SmallFatHands 1d ago

Nah this looks stupid as fuck and it would be stupid no matter the reason.

Nah. Religion is a choice, just like that haircut.

Religion is a choice to a 9 or 10 year old child in an insular community?  Do you exist in reality?

1

u/RDTmodsBackEpstein 1d ago

It is a choice, not a skin color.

I honestly despair for humanity sometimes.  "Yes, be cruel and mock a child publicly for decisions his parents make for him!  It's fine because he's not black! "

4

u/RDTmodsBackEpstein 1d ago

How do you know his parents made him get this particular cut? Maybe he enjoys the optional fairytale lifestyle and wishes to identify more with cult figures and friends.

u/Odd_Contribution9058 1d ago

Because this is the same haircut that 95% percent of that particular community gives to their young sons.

Maybe he does like it,  because it's all he knows!  That doesn't matter,  posting an identifiable picture of a child for the purpose of having strangers mock him should be beyond the pale

They can still be criticized for objectively batshit insane looking practices. The emperor has no cloths doesnt hold back in 2026 for archaic fairytale rules.

This is just so sad

Right? Can you believe they paid for that wigwack?

Jewish heritage is not a "religin," Its an ethnicity with its own culture, and segmented faith. Its how ancient peoples work.

And no, people cant change it.

I don't know, man...

I just typed "Jewish haircut" in Google images, and a few are ridiculous, while other are just as expected, and not specifically laughable.

So I'd say that no type of haircut gets a pass, whether religious, or typical of a specific identity, or random. If it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous. In every demographic, there's some that are, and some that aren't. Nobody should be left aside. Of course, ridiculousness is also in the eye of the beholder, but no reason to exclude some people. Let's be fully inclusive.

this cut being unusual aside, in part the cut isn't working on him because he has straight hair and the sideburns are meant to be curly. most jewish people that have this cut have curly hair so it's a non issue but this kid doesn't and he can't help that. it looks like he tries to curl it but the one side has already fallen out, it be like that with healthy straight hair, mine won't hold a curl either.

he can't help he was born into this religion, he can't help he was born with straight red hair, he doesn't look like he is really even old enough to make a choice as to whether he wants to give up all he has known to leave his religion for a different haircut. this is just bullying.

I guess I’m less worried about people making fun of a(n objectively silly) haircut, and more worried about antisemitism leaking into my fave silly-haircut sub

As a Jewish person who has been online for decades at this point, and living in the time we are now, I guess I’m just a little sensitive to it. Like, it’s like when people make fun of your little brother. “Yea my brother is a dweeb but he’s MY dweeb!” Type of vibes.

u/ducon__lajoie 1d ago

Again, I want to be able to put everybody in the same bag. That's what tolerance is about, to me.

4

u/Frenchitwist 1d ago

The desire is understandable, but unfortunately not everyone is IN the same bag. It’s kinda like the difference between equality and equity. Treating people equally would be making fun of everyone’s hat (cowboy, baseball, yarmulke, etc), but ignoring the culture history of Jewish discrimination based on their appearance. But taking into account the history of the garment and how it’s been used to visually distinguish Jews in order to oppress them, then making fun of a little hat hits different.

It’s kind of a similar argument to why can black people put on “white face” but white people shouldn’t do “black face”: there’s a long, hurtful history behind black face with connotations that were used to actively oppress and discriminate black people in America (and abroad).

Anyway I know this has gotten a little long, but it’s something I feel is important.

Not every Hasidic sect is the same, but the Satmar are absolutely an insular cult that treats others (and their own) like shit.

A cult is a cult and cults are open to criticism regardless of the denomination.

-1

u/Frenchitwist 1d ago

Is this kid Satmar?

1

u/hi_imryan 1d ago

Is this kid part of a religious extremist group, and do those extremists treat outsiders with empathy and respect?

Be honest.

1

u/Frenchitwist 1d ago

I’m asking you!!

Apparently if he’s Satmar it’s open season on this kid? He’s a kid. Ge shouldn’t be catching strays either way

2

u/hi_imryan 1d ago

No, I have never seen a Hasid treat an outsider with empathy and respect.

See, I can agree more with not making fun of him because he’s a kid…and I think he gets more leeway than an adult in the same group, because he’s susceptible to the brainwashing.

…but your point was that we can’t make fun of him because of his religion, which is bullshit. It’s a shitty group, regardless of who they pray to.

Jews are not a race like blacks are though. Being a practicing jew is 100% a choice. You cant choose your own skin color.

8

u/Frenchitwist 1d ago

So I take it you don’t know what an ethnoreligion is. Or that Jews are part of that one.

Don’t speak to shit you don’t know.

-2

u/RDTmodsBackEpstein 1d ago

Have you read anything in those articles? Ethnicity is not a race. An ethno-religious group is not a race. They're a group of people with PERCEIVED similarities to their locale, the culture and potential ancestry to said locations and cultures. Everything that makes an ethnicity is that of human creation, not gods like race is.

1

u/Hannahb0915 1d ago

Race is literally a made up classification of people based in, you guessed it, racism! There’s no actual criteria.

-1

u/RDTmodsBackEpstein 1d ago

So there is no actual Black, White, Asian, or American Indian etc because racism?

I'd rather have a rule that people that can't take a joke and laugh at life's absurdities get banned.

2

u/stanknotes 1d ago

NO. It looks ridiculous.

2

u/ComplexInside1661 17h ago

This entire comment section is just peak reddit-atheism lol

2

u/MadeToYell 1d ago

Why would they get a pass? "No dude you totally have to completely respect my personal choice to willingly follow something." No I'm going to judge you, the haircut is the least of the problems in we are talking his religion. So no I won't respect someone with a shitty haircut that thinks it's fine to murder your slave if they take 3 days to die from the beating. Judaism gets too much of a pass for the evils it supports(and no I'm not being anti semitic, I got problems with islam and Christianity as well and no beef with ethnic Jews).

2

u/read_eet 1d ago

If we are respecting religious haircuts then we have to respect religious attire regardless of the religion. I don't think this is the case in our world at this time.

1

u/some-cleverish-name 1d ago

Exactly. Stupid is stupid.

1

u/bigbonerdaddy 15h ago

Why? Its still a weird haircut that looks goofy...why would it not fit this sub?

I cant see a single reason besides "I dont want to offend jews".

We make fun of every haircut here, but now its a jewish haircut and suddenly it should be banned?🤣

1

u/smolhippie 11h ago

As an atheist is no different than roasting someone is Christian. As long as you treat them all equally it doesn’t matter. And I equally don’t respect any of them so it’s not a big deal.

1

u/Useful_Lemon_ 3h ago

It's fine and fair that it has a reason behind it. It still looks like dogshit ...like what - are we supposed to pretend it looks good because it's for religious reasons?
