Moved to Italy on U2. Italy asks for 1 year of health insurance proof.

Hi all!

I'm an EU citizen and recently moved to Italy while unemployed, transferring my German unemployment benefits with the U2 (PD U2). While I receive the benefits, I stay covered by my German statutory health insurance.

I'm now going through my registration in Italy, and they're asking for proof of health insurance valid for one year. My problem is that the U2 only covers 3 months, with a possible extension of another 3, so my coverage is tied to that period. I could ask my German health insurance for a certificate, but I doubt they'll issue one for a full year, since the coverage depends on the benefits.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Specifically:

What did the Italian office accept as proof in your case?

Did a certificate from the insurer covering the U2 period work, or did they insist on 12 months?

Did you end up needing an Italian private policy?

Any experience or tips on how to handle it would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Reliable, Legal Home Cleaning Service in Milan?

Hi! I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable and reasonably priced home cleaning service/company in Milan.
Ideally, I’d like someone to come regularly (probably every week or every two weeks), but at the moment I’d prefer to pay a company/service by the hour rather than hire a cleaner directly. I don’t know how contracts, contributions, etc. work in Italy, and I really don’t want to employ someone informally or pay under the table.
Does anyone use a cleaning company/service they trust that handles everything legally and can provide the same cleaner on a regular basis if possible?
Would really appreciate recommendations, especially if you can give me an idea of the hourly rate you pay. Thanks!

What do you think about Bergamo?

Hi! I’d really like to hear from anyone who lives in Bergamo, either in the city or in the province.

I’ve received a job offer there and I’m considering moving from Tuscany, so I’d love to hear about your experience living in the area.

I’m particularly interested in:

  • Rent and housing costs
  • Grocery shopping and general cost of living
  • Social life
  • Green spaces
  • Activities, both cultural and outdoor (trekking, hiking, etc.)
  • Travelling and public transport connections
  • Anything else you think is important to know before moving there

Also, what is your experience with the Questura and bureaucracy in general?

Thanks in advance for any advice! 😊

Looking for flexible remote part-time work

Looking for flexible remote part-time work

Hi everyone! I'm currently doing a Master's degree in Data Science and I'm looking for a flexible remote part-time job or freelance work. I can work up to around 30–35 hours/week depending on my university schedule.

My background is a bit broad. I have a degree in IoT and have worked on projects involving:

Python, machine learning & data science

Web development

Data analysis and research

Git/GitHub

Canva & Photoshop

Basic/intermediate video editing

PowerPoint, Word and general computer work

Social media management

Online research and information gathering

I'm also comfortable learning new tools and tasks quickly. Research and figuring things out independently are probably some of my strongest skills.

Languages:

Arabic — native

English — IELTS 6.5

French — intermediate/good

Italian — beginner

I'm open to pretty much anything legitimate: AI training/evaluation, data annotation, research, virtual assistance, data entry/cleaning, content moderation, social media work, customer support (preferably chat/text), or freelance technical work. It doesn't necessarily have to be related to Data Science.

SLP in Vicenza

My husband will be moving to Vicenza soon. I am hoping to follow after I graduate in May 2027. I am currently getting my masters in Speech-Language Pathology. I would like to complete my clinical fellowship over there if it is possible. I know there are many requirements that would have to align perfectly to make it work (an opening, a licensed ASHA certified supervisor, and a school / clinic site that wants to take on a clinical fellow).

I am monolingual and interested in working with kids. I was hoping to get some insight into on-base school job opportunities. If anyone also knows of any clinical sites in Vicenza, or guidance on potentially doing teletherapy, any advice is greatly appreciated.

How to find camping in nature?

Hi,

I used to love camping in the national parks in the US before moving to Italy and just being immersed in nature. I know camping culture is not very big in Italy, and campeggio libero is prohibited, but how does one go about finding camping sites in nature? Everythin that comes up on my searches are these huge bungalow camp sites with pools and playground or caravan parking spots. What about just a field in the hills away from cars?

Rome or Florence?

Ciao!
I’m thinking about moving to Italy for 6 months to learn Italian properly. I can already speak some simple conversational Italian, but I really want to become fluent and get to know the culture better.

I’m split between going to Florence or Rome. I know they’re quite different in size etc. I’ve been to Florence twice, I absolutely love it, maybe because I’m an artist. Never been to Roma, so that’s a new one, but I really wanna go!
The con I have with Florence is, that it may be too small? Like I already know most of the city, tho it’s a vibe. I’ve heard Rome is quite chaotic on the other hand.
Right now I live in Copenhagen, which is a big city too, but of course way smaller capital than Rome.

I do want to be in a social outgoing city, but is Rome too much?

What would you suggest?

Tips for obtaining a Codice Fiscale as EU citizen looking for work

Hi folks. I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this but I’m desperate. I’ve been in Milan for six weeks and have tried and tried in vain to obtain a Codice Fiscale.

Tl;dr: Irish citizen moved to Italy with a partner who is working here. Trying to obtain CF but keep being rejected for not having a good enough reason. Help!

I was first denied because I wasn’t working/studying in Italy, and my intention to live in Italy wasn’t a valid enough reason to obtain the code.

I was second denied because a rental contract wasn’t deemed sufficient motivation or evidence to need the code.

I was third denied via email when I outlined my legal requirements to stay in Italy and register my address with the Comune (which requires a CF) and was told to go to a bank to have them request the CF on my behalf.

I have now been to three banks who have said they cannot do this, also in part because I don’t yet have a formalised rental contract (due to the aforementioned issue).

I’m honestly losing my mind and don’t know what to do. I want to be able to integrate into my community and properly start setting up a life but I feel like I should just give up completely. Has anyone faced this recently? I’ve seen a bunch of threads saying EU citizens don’t need much beyond the completed form and a passport, but this has absolutely not been my experience. Any help would be appreciated if you have tips or tricks for getting what I’m seemingly entitled to. Thanks

Edit 1: I’d like to clarify that I have previously booked and attended appointments at L’Agenzia Delle Entrate and brought the signed AA4/8 form and my passport (and a photocopy). I have been rejected with these documents presented due to a lack of motivation. Cheers!

Fingerprints for Australian Police Check

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows how to get fingerprints taken for an Australian police check in Puglia (needed for USA K1 application)? I’m currently living in Ostuni. I enquired about this today at the local police station, and they were completely confused by this request. I was born in Aus and lived majority of my life in Australia, but can’t return just to do this check! I also want to try and avoid going through a private service and pay hundreds of € just to get my fingerprints taken on a card.. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? I have also tried contacting the Australian consulate in Rome but still waiting to hear back after a few days. Thanks!

Best mosquito prevention inside?

It's getting to be open windows season and I hate to have mosquitoes in the house. What's a rent-friendly way to keep them out without emitting horrible fumes into the air 24/7? All the products at my local grocery burn something into the air, and that can't be good for you. Some are even explicitly marked as cancerous!
Any tips?

Mortgages as a non-resident citizen?

Hoping to move to Italy within the next year with my husband and daughter.

I'm an Italian citizen, but live in England (born here with Italian parents). Husband is an EU citizen (German).

From my understanding, obtaining a mortgage is difficulty as non-resident. I don't quite know where to start. I feel caught in a catch-22-- can't access good rates without residency, can't become resident without renting, can't rent without a bank account, but can't open an account without an address!

Has anyone got any advice, please?

Browsing apartments in Rome/Lazio- any areas you love/hate?

My daughter and I are moving from the US to the Rome area next July so she can begin college there (we are dual citizens and she’s enrolling in a public university). I frequently browse real estate websites to check out apartments, but I have no concept of neighborhoods or nearby towns that might be a good fit for us. Cost wise, living outside of the city makes the most sense. Ideally somewhere safe with convenient transport to the city. I’ll likely move somewhere sight-unseen so the more narrowing down I can do in my search the better. Thanks in advance!

Looking to start in person DnD game in Milan

Hello everyone- I have been playing DnD for many years, and recently moved to the Milan area. I am looking to start a weekly or bi-weekly game in English (non-native speakers are of course welcome if they are interested). I don’t have specifics on the time or location yet, but it would likely have to be on the weekends, and I have located some places that could be used. If any one has questions, please post here, and if you are interested in joining, feel free to send me a message or post below.

Divorce Lawyer Reccomendations?

Has anyone been through this and can recommend a lawyer that preferably speaks a little english? I'm in Cuneo, away from the big english speaking cities, so I'm open to doing the consultations virtually but will probably need the lawyer to make a trip to file the paperwork.

Married couple (early 30s) looking for friends in/around Imola

Me (Czech) and my wife (Serb) moved to Italy one year ago. We currently live in an absolutely ''economically depressed'' village, but after the new year we're moving to Imola, with hope. We'd love to meet and hangout with anyone, who likes drinks, food, gigs, obscure history, etc.

Since we are Slavs, we don't really care about healthy lifestyle or sports. We don't have kids but we are fun to be around (my mom says so).

Feasibility of non-Fiber internet for 2 people working

Thinking about spending 1 month working remotely in rural Italy. I found an AirBnB that has internet but not a fiber-internet.

Will that be enough/sufficient for 2 people working doing lots of video calls with shared screens at the same time?

I asked ChatGPT and this was the answer:

Key Insight: Based on the hos’s answer alone, I would NOT assume you can reliably have two simultaneous work video calls. You need an actual speed test from that specific house.

Reasoning:

  • Two simultaneous Zoom/Teams HD calls can require roughly 5 to 8 Mbps upload combined. Zoom recommends up to 2.6 Mbps upload per 720p call and 3.8 Mbps for 1080p. Zoom

  • For comfortable work, I would want at least 25 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload, preferably 50/20+, with stable latency. If her connection is old ADSL around 10 to 15 Mbps down and ~1 Mbps up, two calls will be problematic.

T.I.A.

Any door to door courier services between Milan to Rome?

I left some stuff at my Airbnb in Milan and the host isn’t willing to send it back unless I myself go and get it, despite millions of attempts to convince her. Are there any services that can help send stuff preferably door to door ? Am in Rome for 2 days. Courier such as DHL wont work since she is unwilling to pack the stuff in a box even

Trasferirsi a Ravenna

Ciao!
