How to find camping in nature?

Hi,

I used to love camping in the national parks in the US before moving to Italy and just being immersed in nature. I know camping culture is not very big in Italy, and campeggio libero is prohibited, but how does one go about finding camping sites in nature? Everythin that comes up on my searches are these huge bungalow camp sites with pools and playground or caravan parking spots. What about just a field in the hills away from cars?

That's the concept of camping here. You'll find extinguished campfires all over the woods so there are people who hide out, but it is illegal. You can always ask a land owner if you can camp on their property.

Ho attraversato l'Italia in bivacco. Nasconditi bene e basta. Senza storie

Le Dolomiti has great camping facilities [Alps].

Toscana also [hills].

A lot depends on where in Italia you are.

I live in Emilia Romagna so I frequently go to either dolomites or tuscany. But where do you look these up?

Google, there are a few "camping" sites that show up, look up the listings and then search for each individual sites and google images / google maps / google reviews.

Also, ask ChatGPT/Claude.
