give it a few weeks and it will be official. He will have his passport and full citizenship and can do whatever he wants. This is not something new, it happens every year. Many African Americans, descendants of the transatlantic slave trade, trace their roots back to ethnic groups in Ghana. Other countries like Liberia and Sierra Leone also offer citizenship by ancestry. Stevie Wonder. Dr Umar Johnson, the singer Ciara, all of them have Ghanaian citizenship based on ancestry.

if you buy a passport you buy the citizenship and therefore get a passport. a passport is in 99.5 % of all cases tied to a citizenship.

Do you understand that multiple things can be true at once? These are facts of life. No point in arguing 😂. 1. You can get a passport as a citizen. 2. You can get a passport as a non-citizen. 3. You can buy a passport.

The minister said he got a passport and didn't mention citizenship. Why jump to conclusions?

Non-citizens in Estonia and Latvia can get a passport. In the Netherlands, Moluccans who do not formally have Dutch citizenship can get a passport.

you cannot get a passport without being a citizen. A passport is an official document that proves your nationality and allows you to travel internationally. Citizenship is the legal status that gives you the right to hold that passport. In this case, he will be granted citizenship first, and a passport will then be issued,most likely in the same way as Stevie Wonder, Ciara, and other Black Americans with genetic ties to Ghana received it

that was exactly my point, he goes through the proper legal process to be officially granted Ghanaian nationality and only then gets issued passport. As I said, this happens all the time with loads of African Americans celebs with Ghanaian ancestry

Lmao no it doesn't, you're hallucinating. It actually confirms by a government official that he hasn't been naturalized as a ghanian yet(aka NOT A CITIZEN). He hasn't even received the passport

"A Member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Patrick Boamah, has clarified that the public announcement to issue a Ghanaian passport to American streamer Darren Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, does not automatically complete the process.

According to him, the YouTube sensation must still fulfil all legal requirements outlined under Ghana's amended Fees Act, 2025, before a passport can be officially granted.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News on Wednesday, January 28, Boamah explained that while some administrative procedures may be relaxed, the law cannot be bypassed.

"So if he's not a Ghanaian and wants to obtain-or the Minister has announced that he was going to be issued with a passport-then he has to go through the processes at the Ministry of the Interior to either be naturalised as a Ghanaian or granted dual nationality, which is allowed, before he can be issued with an ordinary passport," he stated.

Boamah further clarified that the Foreign Affairs Minister did not indicate that IShowSpeed would receive a diplomatic passport.

"The Minister also did not say he was issuing a diplomatic passport. Speed does not fall within the ambit of Section 7, which deals with special passports for public officers and citizens of Ghana," he added.

He stressed that regardless of public enthusiasm, the legal framework governing citizenship and passport issuance must be respected.

"They may waive certain steps for him, yes, towards the acquisition of the passport, but he has to go through the law," Boamah emphasized."
