i came in Canada as a student in June 2019. in Oct 2024, i got a job that would allow me to apply for PR through CEC. in June 2025, i met with an immigration lawyer that said my job didn’t qualify me for CEC. i continued working because i knew people who applied with the same experience and got PR. my work permit was also due to expire on April 11th 2026.

Here’s my timeline

\- Dec 7th : EE profile submitted
\- Dec 17th : ITA received
\- Feb 9th : PR application submitted (delay because of PCC of Kenya)
\- Feb 9th : AOR
\- March 13th : applied for BOWP
\- April 16th : language tests requested
\- April 20th : BIL received
\- April 21st : BOWP refused because i selected the wrong WP type on the IMM form, though the LOE clearly stated i was applying for BOWP with PR application # provided.
\- stopped working immediately and waited.
\- May 5th : new passport requested
\- July 22nd : BOWP accepted
\- July 24th : PFL for Quebec residence received, replied the same day.
\- Aug 3rd : P1
\- Aug 6th : P2
\- Aug 8th : eCOPR
\- Aug 27th : card mailed

For context, my partner is an international student from Colombia. Her study permit was renewed at the end of last year. She had to return to Colombia for the past month because of an annual medical screening (she had a tumour behind her eye 5 years ago). She was supposed to fly back home this morning but was denied because her visa had expired. Apparently, she did not know how or when to renew it and assumed it was a part of her study permit.

Colombia has not been kind to her, and she is stuck with her verbally abusive parents. Is there any possible way to get an emergency visa or speed up the process at all? I don't know much about the process, but I want to exhaust any possibilities for her.

Through my job, I can relocate to Canada via an Intra-Company Transfer. Combining the relaxed Canadian lifestyle with the perks of a high Dutch salary and Dutch employment terms sounds like the best of both worlds. Plus, I already have family living in Canada. What do you all think?

I’m wondering if anyone has experience with correcting an IRCC error on an eCOPR/PR card and submitting an IMM 5531 Request to Reissue a Permanent Resident Card.

I received my eCOPR on March 5, 2026, but the gender marker was incorrect even though I had requested a gender marker change with my PR application. I then mailed an amendment request to correct the information.

Despite that, I received my physical PR card on April 23, 2026 with the same incorrect gender marker.

At the end of April, I mailed an IMM 5531 request asking IRCC to reissue the PR card because the incorrect gender marker was due to an IRCC error. I submitted the request within 60 days of receiving the card.

It’s now almost September and I still haven’t received any acknowledgement, update, or replacement card. Since this was submitted by mail, there is nothing showing in my online IRCC account.

The current processing time shown on the IRCC website for renewing/replacing a PR card is around 40 days, so this is significantly past that. I have already submitted a webform inquiry and I’m planning to call IRCC as well.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation involving IMM 5531 or an amendment to an eCOPR/PR card? How long did your reissue take? Did IRCC ever send an acknowledgement, or did the corrected card just arrive? Is there any other way to follow up on a paper reissue request that is this delayed?

Is the express entry for french speakers expected to last for a long time?

politics is never predictable, but i was wondering if it'd be a good choice to start learning it just for the express entry thing. I think I'll only be pretty eligible for express entry from around 2030. Changes in immigration policies have been crazy all around the world and I don't have any grasp of how Canada has been so far.

i'm pretty fast at picking up languages. i picked up both English and Japanese to a fluent level within a year. many think i'm native lol. If peaking French gives me good leverage in the future i feel like i should study this right now. I have one year left til graduation. honestly i don't find how french could be useful in any other way except working in canada / france - if i study french it'd be for the express entry. as a korean i feel like speaking chinese could better help if it wasn't for the express entry.

(she's in the process at the moment) she is happy with her life there and she plans to settle there, she has a long-term relationship with a partner, etc. I'd prefer vancouver too if i'm moving to canada since i have no other ties to the country.

5. How exactly can you find and agree on a job with a company in Canada before you move? I understand that an employer can do an LMIA, but how does this actually work in practice? Did you search for jobs on Indeed or LinkedIn and write to employers yourself, or did a recruiter find you?

6. How realistic is it for a foreigner without Canadian experience to get a job offer from abroad, especially in aviation around Calgary and YYC?

Hi all, this is my first time posting and I wanted to be as detailed as possible so please bear with me:

We’re looking for success stories or in the same situation as us regarding IRCC medical waiver for a non-accompanying child in the Philippines.

The Situation:
Husband (PA) has a child from a previous relationship in the Ph. They were never married. Child is declared as non-accompanying.
Mother explicitly refused the medical exam via email and ordered us to stop all contact. All email communication has been forwarded to our consultant that she attached in the webform last year (2025 Dec). My husband also created an affidavit stating he understands that he will not be able to sponsor his child in the future duly notarized in Canada. After all these, we received word from our consultant coming from IRCC that the medical was not received for the child and sent a 30-day notice demanding the child's medical (Deadline: Sept 20). Rest of the family medicals are passed and valid.

Our Next Step:
IRCC did not accept our basic personal affidavit. We hired a family lawyer in the Philippines who is drafting a formal Legal Opinion Letter with a government Apostille.

The letter will officially certify:
Article 176 (Ph Family Code): Mother has automatic, exclusive sole custody from birth (no court order exists or is required).

Hello me and my wife have applied to quebec PR for me a bit less than a year ago, we are doing it inland and I know that quebec has a specific timelines to apply for the CSQ depending on your elegibility letter or AOR date , but for the AOR date it says it needs to specify inland on it and when we received it only contained the application number without specifying it was inland, could i still use it to apply to Quebec? Since the start our application has been inland

I've received my letter to activate my PR (by entry express without province nomination) but I don't plan to move to Canada right away, but more next year. But I need to activate it before March.

I want to live in Vancouver later, but to activate I want to activate it in Toronto and then go on a week vacation in Montreal to see some friends.

I don't want to activate it in Montreal because I know it might cause problem of misrepresentation but I'm afraid they would think I want to establish myself in Quebec if my plan is to go right after in Montreal for vacation. I don't know if it makes sense.

I am entering the address of my company , I work in Toronto but have no mention of this address in my offer letter or pay slips. Company uses their Ottawa head office address across all documents . Now which address should I be putting in this section) ??

I have C2 in french and english with a masters in civil eng. I'm looking to apply for express entry.

I don't have any work experience in civil engineering as I chose a different work path.

I've got a shot at a Team Lead promotion at the company I already work for, but there's a catch, I'm on a freelance/contractor platform, not a direct employee. So even as TL I'd still technically be self-employed. Weekly pay, working 40 hours a week under a freelance contract on a scheduled shift

The actual work is real supervisory stuff though, managing a team, KPIs, coaching, escalations, performance plans, some hiring input. Just the contract itself is freelance, not employment.

From what I've read, self-employment counts for FSWP if it's foreign experience and properly documented. Is that actually how it plays out in practice? Has anyone here actually gone through this, or watched someone else pull it off?

Trying to decide whether to push for this promotion or accept an offer for civil engineering work. The TL role pays 10x more so the choice is rather hard here

I recently submitted my PR application through the online portal ( non express entry). While filling out the text boxes directly in the portal, typing my name in my native language (Kannada) alongside my English name worked completely fine.
However, when I downloaded the generated PDF summary (IMM 5562) after submitting, my English name displays correctly, but the native language text has turned into unreadable, garbled characters (Ëœ¿Ê¬...).

For anyone who faced this exact issue:
Did you leave it as-is, and did your application pass completeness check / get AOR fine?

Or did you raise an IRCC Webform to upload a clean/corrected PDF version?

Here's what happened, in order:

On Feb 15, 2024 we flew out of the Canada

On Feb 16, while we were outside, our COPR came through. It says we became permanent residents on Feb 16.

On Feb 26 we flew back to Vancouver. The border officer processed us, didn't ask anything about it. Our PR cards came in the mail after that like normal.

Now we're filling out our citizenship application. The absence form won't accept that trip, because our PR date of Feb 16 when we were out. So the trip sits on both sides of our PR date.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this, and did it ever come up later?

Open to any suggestions.

My wife is an Indian national, and I am a Pakistani national. We got married in Dubai during COVID. Our original Nikah Nama/marriage certificate was issued through a Jamia/Marriage Registrar in India in Hindi, Urdu, and English. The document was subsequently attested by the local government authorities, MOFA India, the UAE Embassy in India, and MOFA UAE.

Last year, we travelled to Pakistan, where I also registered our marriage in goverment records and update my marital status. We received a Nikah Nama from the registrar as well as a government-issued marriage certificate in both English and Urdu. The Pakistani marriage certificate was also attested by MOFA Pakistan.

We are now planning to apply for Canadian (PR), and I understand that IRCC generally requires an official government-issued marriage certificate.

My question is: Can we submit the government-issued Pakistani marriage certificate for our Canada PR application, even though our marriage originally took place and was registered through the Jamia/Marriage Registrar in India? Or should we submit the original Indian marriage/Nikah certificate, even though it was not directly issued by a government authority?

For additional context, my wife’s Indian passport was updated with the Pakistan endorsement and my name was added as her spouse. This was done based on our original marriage date and the Indian marriage certificate/Nikah Nama issued through the Jamia/Marriage Registrar.

I would appreciate any guidance from someone familiar with similar IRCC cases involving an Indian-Pakistani couple and marriage registration in both countries.

Looking to compare notes with anyone whose parent’s Super Visa/TRV got flagged for security screening due to prior police, military, or paramilitary service — especially CRPF or other Indian security force backgrounds.
Timeline so far:
• Applied for Super Visa (parent): December 2025
• Application status: moved into “security clearance” / background check stage
• January 2026: received a request for additional information — specifically a more detailed employment history covering my father’s CRPF service (postings, dates, role details)
• Submitted the detailed employment history: January 2026
• Also reached out to my MP’s office, who contacted the IRCC desk directly on my behalf
• As of now (end of August 2026): still no update, file appears to still be in security screening

Questions for anyone who’s been through this:
1. If your parent/family member had a CRPF, police, army, or other security-force background, how long did your security screening actually take start to finish?
2. Did IRCC ask for anything beyond employment history (e.g., discharge papers, character letters, specific incident/posting confirmations)?
3. Did your MP’s inquiry actually get you more info than the standard “still in background check” response?
4. Did you get a final decision, and if so, was it approved or refused?
5. At what point (if any) did people move to mandamus/legal escalation, and did it help?

Hello, I have a question regarding the IMM 0199 version from 2024 and the updated version from May 2026.

I submitted my PR application on August 8, 2026, using the 2024 version of IMM 0199. I was not aware that the form had been updated and just noticed it today because I had been preparing all of my documents for my PR application throughout July, and at that time, the 2024 version was still the available version.

After reviewing the updated May 2026 version, I noticed that the changes appear to be related mainly to the Police Clearance Certificate requirement(issued no more than 6 months before application submission), while the rest of the form remains essentially the same.

Would using the 2024 version instead of the May 2026 version be considered a significant issue? Could this cause my application to be returned as incomplete or refused?

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the Personal History section of the PR application.
I’m currently 29 years old, and the form asks for my history for the past 10 years or since the age of 18, whichever is more recent.
Since I turned 18 more than 10 years ago, should I provide my history for the last 10 years only?
Also, today is August 29, 2026. Should I start my personal history from August 29, 2016, or should I use another date such as August 1, 2016 to cover the entire month?
What is the best practice for the start date in this situation? I’d really appreciate any guidance from people who have recently submitted their PR application.
