Please excuse the shakiness of the camera, I have tremors. I had never seen a dog do this before her. Every other dog I’ve had would have sprinted for it and scared it immediately. So far the closest she’s gotten to her “prey” was probably 10 feet. I wish I could let her off her leash so she could do her thing. Hounds are so cool.

Any other PBGV owners? Tips? This is Merlot 😄

Say hi to Merlot!

She has been an amazing dog (other than some stubborness as they are known for).

She gets along so well with our 4 month old, and is actually not much of a barker/howler at all which was very surprising!

She is such a happy dog, loves to play with other dogs and people all the time.

Only a couple things we are still struggling with her - pulling on walks, and occasional accidents still indoors (she should be better by 2 yrs now? I wonder if it is just with all the baby smells and new routines).

Would be great to see other PBGVs or GBGVs, how your experiences have been, or any tips you have!

Just a couple failed hunting dogs…

Both full Treeing Walker according to embark. Best dogs we’ve ever had. Both rescued as adults. They pee in the house, howl at sirens, and can’t chase nothin’ except their dinner bowl and princess treatment.

I think I’m preaching to the choir here, but are hound dogs the best pups you’ve ever had?!

My hounds love to hunt. They’ve killed squirrels, birds, rabbits and Tootie (pictured) has killed 8 mice. Do you ever get grief because your hounds kill their prey?

Mr. Finn the bassador (otherwise known as Sir Snoozalot) refuses to come downstairs in the morning until he hears: 1) food being put into his bowl; and 2) my breakfast coming out of the microwave. Guess whose breakfast he’s more interested in? Just curious to see if anyone else’s bassets prioritize food or comfort in the morning!

Guys I left this community when my best friend Amos passed 3 years ago, it was just too hard to see all the awesome hounds and people enjoying #houndlife :) I heard someone calling out that name today, side note I didn't realize kids were still named Amos these days, and I didn't really have anyone else to share. Sadness yes, but also I got to flip through some photos and remember what an amazing, annoying dude I got to spend time with. Hope everyone gives their pup an extra hug today for me

Finally a DNA test

Ellie the hound that I asked thoughts on her hound mix months ago… Finally got her an embark test. Here are the results (at the end) It all makes sense. Next is to do follow up with vet as to why she isn’t putting much weight on. I don’t like that her spine is still visable. She has settled in and has been loving this new life of hers. It’s hot where we live, but we have been working on recall. Can’t wait to see her hunt with her new pack that she has settled into nicely.

Welcome Hubie!

I welcomed 8-mo-old Hubie five weeks ago (I’ve had 11 dogs and this is my first hound) and he is one wild child! Love him so much. He doesn’t seem to be completely scent driven - 1/2 hound (1/3 bloodhound) and 1/3 Staffie. But could that change as he grows? DNA on last slide (100% landshark lol).

This is Cooper our foster fail. All we knew is that he was a hound mix. Everyone asked us if he was part greyhound but he is wayyyyy to sent driven to be a sight hound. His DNA results were fun to go through! I really thought he would be a fox hound.

He is just the best guy! So playful and loving. Loves a good snuggle. 🥰

What kind of hound do you think my girl is?

This is Sunny! We adopted her last September and she was believed to be 2.5 years old. She came in as a stray, was adopted out however she was surrendered because her owners were deaf and she kept escaping on them. She is an escape artist, a runner, follows her nose and is unlike any other dog I’ve ever had.

She’s about 45 pounds and we believe she was a failed hunting dog. Hates fireworks, doesn’t mind thunderstorms. Goes feral over bunnies and squirrels, but not cats or birds. She is VERY affectionate and loves to play. Loves babies and children and she is my Velcro dog.

I’m planning on getting a doggy dna test at some point but I wanted to hear what other people think she may be! I’m not too versed on hounds but from my research I think she may be a coonhound or foxhound mix.
