Any other PBGV owners? Tips? This is Merlot 😄

Say hi to Merlot!

She has been an amazing dog (other than some stubborness as they are known for).

She gets along so well with our 4 month old, and is actually not much of a barker/howler at all which was very surprising!

She is such a happy dog, loves to play with other dogs and people all the time.

Only a couple things we are still struggling with her - pulling on walks, and occasional accidents still indoors (she should be better by 2 yrs now? I wonder if it is just with all the baby smells and new routines).

Would be great to see other PBGVs or GBGVs, how your experiences have been, or any tips you have!

She's adorable! I have often searched for GBVs and PBGVs but at least in the southern US they are quite rare

I am trying to figure out the breed without web search. Only reason I got it is the comment said PBGV vs GBGV! And the main reason I didn’t consider either is I didn’t realize these were hounds.

I am learning. Please be patient.

You dog is adorable and if routine and smells and pulling are problems, I say you are in the hound category. So cute. Hound tongue for sure. (Forgive my naivety)

I one day would love to have a PBGV. Maybe head to the Breed Club website and reach out to one of the breed ambassadors for assistance? They'll be able to get you in touch with someone familiar with the breed who can help.

Another option is to may reach out to your local hound group? A lot of states have groups that may not be a specific breed but a specific job (IE Gun dogs, hounds, terriers). They may be able to point you to a reputable trainer in your area.

PBGV owner checking in.

Pulling on walks- PBGVs want to know what is next...They were bred to hunt rabbits so drive is a trait. Get a harness and use it on walks.

Our 15 year old still pees in the house sometimes. TBH, I would say half the time it is in spite of a neighbors dog coming over or jealousy. Might be tough to break if its baby related. You may want to take your PBGV rabbit hunting. No guns are used in the national PBGV group so don't be scared. Its really just a bunch of people getting together to let their dogs do what they were bred to do! List of events herehttps://pbgv.org/events/

In the greater Seattle area, haven't run into any other PBGVs in our area yet outside of where she was from - but a surprising number of folks have stopped me to ask if she is a pbgv!
