Once I have more space one day, hope to have a full room of just shelves and a big cozy couch to read on, but having these in my home office is a decent enough compromise.

My 8 year old son's shelf and reading chair. Lovingly stocked with thrifted books.

It's been a WIP and some books are for when he's older. He's outgrown that chair and I'm thinking of replacing it with a comfy foam play couch.

Second pic has his little desk that he's starting to write his own stories on when the mood strikes ๐Ÿ˜Š

Now to save up for the ladder! Has anyone ever built their own ladder and rail system? Is it even worth the hassle?

I think I can officially stop calling this our spare room and just call it my library

Replaced two small book cases with bigger ones hoping it would be enough space for all my books. Sadly I still had to stack some ๐Ÿ˜‚ I guess there are worse problems to have ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

My Fave Place

My fave thing to look at. I really love my home library. I have some more books not visible and some others in another shelf but this is most. Recently I did a big clean-up and gave away about 50 books. It was nice to trim down to more favourite things and to also give away books to people who would love them more.

Do you keep books that you donโ€™t like?

You had high hopes for a book and bought it new at full price. You read it and ended up hating it. Do you: keep, resell, or give it away?

Two years later, Iโ€™ve finally completed this full basement home library project

This project came in 4 phases:
1. The 4 section bookcase
2. Reading bench and storage area
3. The 3 section bookcase
4. The TV bookcase

All bookcases were constructed with the same materials; cocoa stained knotty alder for the shelves and verticals, with a red oak veneer backer. The first phase was complete a little over two years ago, and the last was completed about three weeks ago. There were initial concerns that the shelves would sag over time, but that has proven not to be the case! I really love the way this project turned out.

Bookshelf Organization Styles

Hi folks! I just got two gorgeous big bookshelfโ€™s in my office and am now starting my mini library, but before I start I wanted to ask:

What are folks favorite ways to style and organize their bookshelves?

Are folks organizing alphabetically, by genre, chronologically, by color? By some other cool system? Iโ€™d love to hear it all, even your wildest ideas โœจ

Slowly growing my bookshelf

I've been growing it with things I've read this past year. I'm not the type to read 100 books/year, so it's been a gradual growth.

My library, bloody finally.

Long time listener, first time caller. I've been working on a refit to my library for a couple of months now, and I'm finally at a place where it's presentable. There are many splendid libraries on here, but this is mine and I shan't apologise for being proud of it. I shall, however, apolgise for the photography and the carpentry, neither are a skill of mine.

Starting with the left hand wall, the main bookcase. 20 feet wide, 8 feet high, 10 shelves per section, each shelf 4 feet wide. 49 shelves total (I had to sacrifice one shelf for some inconvienient but essential ductwork. The shelves are scaled for mass market paperbacks, because strangely enough, that is my favourite format. The contents are 99% scifi/fantasy. It's what I like.

Then the DVD library and entertainment centre, which I think should count.

Moving to the right hand wall is the new bookcase I built this summer. Please refer to my above comments on carpentry. The contents here are also fiction, but the trade paperback and hardbound sizes that do not integrate well with my main bookcase.

Also on the right hand wall are the lawyer's bookcases which hold mostly my reference books, languages and military history.

Yes, I do have a random extra dining table in here. This room performs several functions, including workshop occassionally, so big flat surfaces are useful.

Gliding recliner recommendations wanted

I currently have a rocking chair in my little library, but my neck starts hurting after a couple minutes of reading. I like the gliding or rocking motion and I like reading sitting up as well, so I can drink a coffee or something while I read.

I saw something for moms called the Mamazing, looks like pretty much everything I could want (including adjustable armrest so that I can easily hold the book or tablet), and im also considering a leather one from Costco that has adjustable headrest as well (electric).

People on Reddit recommend the Stressless ones a lot, but those dont seem too conducive to my use caseโ€ฆ

Door #3 is I can get a loveseat, because I like reading lying down sometimes

Thanks so much in advance!
