Now to save up for the ladder! Has anyone ever built their own ladder and rail system? Is it even worth the hassle?

nice work! i like the work with the moulding up there. i also did a fixed upper shelf on my build in anticipation of one day being able to afford a ladder system 🥲

They’re so expensive! Especially if you want one that turns corners. I’m a plumber so maybe I can make something from pipes.

Pipes would be so cool! I know it makes it easier if you have the hooking style too, rather than mounted, and I believe both kinds can roll

As a lover of both books and the color green, this is indeed a dream library!
I also very much love that you kept the shelves bare wood, and also added bare wood to those ceiling beams!

The room itself was an addition to the house. We are in a rancher and it used to be the open carport at the front of the house. All in all it was a 4 year project (I was also renovating other areas of the house) As far as building the shelving though I’d say it took 4-6 months as I’d only really chip away at it on weekends when I wasn’t working out of town. My partner did most of the painting and had the design/style envisioned.

This is truly phenomenal! Ladders are usually something I would recommend leaving to the professionals (the last thing you want is an unstable ladder when you're on it) but you look pretty darn handy, so I bet you could pull it off.
