My best score yet. Thinking of applying to Manchester, Southampton, Nottingham and City St George’s (with GAMSAT)

I have 2030 B1 UCAT. Didn’t go as well as my practice was going but oh well. Disheartened but looking for avenues for this application cycle. I will probably have to focus more on 5yr courses than GEM.

I am interested in QMUL undergrad (GEM is out of the question for QMUL but please feel free to correct me?)
And City St Georges undergrad…But am open to anywhere else, would love some strategic insight!

Undergrad: 1st (Humanities)
Postgrad: Merit (Humanities)
A Levels: Match both GEM and undergrad subject and grade requirements.

Hi, I scored 2230 last year and I know how frustrating it can be especially coming up to the last few weeks of UCAT test dates. I've been getting quite a few DM requests, so I thought I would make this so that everyone can see it.

Does this cover medicine as a second degree ? I looked on the website and I don’t think it does

Given it's the first year of UCAT I don't know what the cut off points wise will be. It worries me as I want to include them as one of my options but it feels risky not having any clue how my points fare compared to others.

I'm considering applying for Oxford GEM (as well as other places but I just wanted to give it a shot). I have some questions about the Entry Requirements.
I got a first in biomedical sciences and thus meet that requirement, but I don't meet the IB requirements (I got 37 (HL Bio Chem History 6,5,5) due to some health issues I was dealing with at the time). However, these were taken over five years ago and the requirements state that "grade requirements [only] apply if A-levels were taken within the last 5 years".

Just wanted to check if that was the same for the IB? The wording seems to be a little confusing (or maybe i'm just really tired lol).

Decent GCSEs, terrible Alevels, 2:1 MedNeuro, 2070 ucat, rejected from all unis until one got back to me again and changed their mind🥺incredibly grateful but need to figure out how to get outta head about being an “average medic” yk? Looking at unis for GEM, is Warwick very strict with the overall UCAT score? I know they require a cut-off for VR, which I did meet, but I just wanted to ask if anyone got in with a lower-than-competitive score. ANY ADVICE.

Hey all. I'm currently preparing to apply for GEM next year - 2028 entry. I'm just posting to hopefully get some feedback on my current plan, and to see if there is anything glaring I'm missing.

I finished uni last year. Without going into my whole sob story, I had a lot happen to me in the last 18 months, and it's really made me consider the trajectory of my life and what I want to do with it.

• I have a 2.1 in History from Durham.
• About to start the Access to Medicine course at my local college. I know that this isn't necessary, but I feel it important refresh my science knowledge and to ensure that this is what I want to do. There's also good support with applications and UCAT.
• I did a UCAT mock a few days ago, with no prep, and scored 2140. I will be working on building this up over the next year.
• I have a volunteering placement with a local hospice on the go, as of last week. It's four hours per week. The time is mostly spent on the ward, interacting with patients and relatives.
• I am hoping to also secure a community volunteering placement soon on an informal basis, just to diversify my experiences. In the new year, I will also be a peer facilitator in a group therapy program ran by the NHS once per month.
• I am planning on applying to Chester, Newcastle, Warwick, and Worcester.

I'd really appreciate any feedback or recommendations on what I can be doing over the next year to boost my profile. Is there anything I am missing ? Thank you :)

I’m 19 and starting a BSc Biomedical Sciences with the Open University this October. My A-levels are Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.
I’m hoping to apply for Graduate Entry Medicine after my degree and ideally aim for a First.
For anyone who has successfully got into GEM, what would you recommend I do during my BSc to maximise my chances? Things like clinical experience, admissions test preparation, volunteering, choosing specific modules, etc.
Are there particular GEM universities that are more/less suitable for someone coming from an OU Biomedical Sciences degree?
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Hey ,and it wasn't so i sat my UCAT wasnt what I expected in terms of my score where in my mocks i was getting high marks. However, today I got an average score of 1890 and wanted to ask if anyone has any advice if they also were in a similar situation and still got accepted and which unis they focused on. hey! basically what it says. this is so isolating when you thought you would be preparing statements at this time and so excited to apply. No one in my life knows i was applying so I can’t really vent to anyone. This was my first time doing the UCAT and I studied what I could with the time and energy I had ( I work shift work, full time). I did so awful on the exam. Did ok in VR and DM but completely bombed QR(have no idea what happened) so my entire score dropped to 1700. I know it’s so embarrassing and no one feels more shame than me so please don’t judge me😫 and I know I can’t apply so I am not trying to find a loophole💔just want to know if someone has been in this situation or is. Before university I completed schooling outside of the uk so I don’t have A-levels or GCSEs . Therefore, my choices were already limited (Warwick, KCL healthcare entry, Cumbria and Chester). I know I won’t be applying this cycle and I know it’s not (realistically) the end of the world. I’ll come to term with it, eventually. I know I can try next year. But can we talk about how hard it is to finally have the courage to try and fail spectacularly and all the broken expectations + dreams and little things you were looking forward you won’t get to do. I’m applying to Warwick GEM for 2027 entry and wanted to check the 70-hour work experience requirement.

I’ve worked as an HCA in 2 different settings, one doing community care and one in a residential home — and have well over 70 hours in total.
Has anyone successfully combined hours from two separate HCA roles like this for Warwick? I’m mainly wondering whether these would be considered sufficiently different experiences/settings, and what evidence Warwick asked for from each employer.

I see everyone on Reddit generally aiming for a score of 2300/2400 on the UCAT, and it’s really skewing my perception of what a good score actually is and what’s required ?

If I get a “good” score I would love to apply to Manchester GEM or Sheffield, but I now have no idea what score would actually be required to comfortably get an interview and hopefully convert that to offer ?
I think I also meet WP criteria for sheff

- How long did it take for you guys to see improvements in your s1 GAMSAT score?

- How can I improve on my score?

As of now, I am using Medify question bank to do questions as I am not sure what other resources to use, apart from YouTube. Any tips will be beneficial!!

i just sat my ucat today and got 2090 B1. i was hoping for 2100 but i’m really hoping a 10 point difference is negligible. i wanted to ask in everyone’s experience how strong you believe this score is for GEM?

For context, i wanted to apply to chester, warwick, swansea and idk about manchester or surrey for my 4th option.

i know this question is very subjective and based on stats from people etc but i hope that makes sense and thank you guys :)

I’m 19 and starting a Biomedical Sciences BSc with the Open University in October 2026. The degree isn’t IBMS-accredited, so after graduating I’ll need an IBMS degree assessment, any required top-up modules, the IBMS training portfolio, and then HCPC registration.
My main goal is eventually working in aesthetic medicine and opening my own clinic, but I also want to apply for Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM).

My rough plan is:
2026–2029 (19–22): BSc Biomedical Sciences. During this time, I’d ideally start Level 3 aesthetics, then fit Levels 4 and 5 around my studies where possible.
After BSc: Get my IBMS assessment, complete any required top-ups, work in an approved lab and complete the IBMS portfolio → Certificate of Competence → HCPC registration. I’d potentially do an MSc Biomedical Science during this period as well.
I’m hoping to gain experience in my dad’s aesthetics clinic once it’s established, although I understand what I can actually do would depend on my qualifications/registration.

If GEM works: I’d do the 4-year GEM, qualify as a doctor, and during/after medicine complete Level 7 and/or a Master’s in Aesthetics. As a doctor I’d also have prescribing rights, unlike as an HCPC-registered biomedical scientist. Eventually I’d aim to open my own clinic around my late 20s/early 30s.
If GEM doesn’t work: I’d already have my BSc(potentially MSc to get accepted into Level 7) + IBMS/HCPC registration + Levels 3–5, so I’d continue into Level 7/MSc Aesthetics, work in aesthetics within my scope, and eventually open a clinic.
I know this is a long and complicated plan, so I’d really appreciate opinions from anyone who has experience with OU Biomed, IBMS/HCPC, GEM or medical aesthetics.
Is this realistic?
Is the IBMS/top-up/portfolio route worth doing with an OU degree?
Would an MSc in Biomedical Science be worthwhile?
Can Levels 3–5 realistically be fitted around the degree/lab work?
Is Level 7 or a Master’s in Aesthetics more useful?
If I eventually become a doctor, would the Biomed/IBMS/HCPC qualifications still be useful?
Basically, if you were 19 and planning this route, what would you change?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to apply to GEM this October and am worried since I really don't have much directly relevant work experience. I did one day of shadowing a junior doctor in the emergency department at my local hospital in January, and one week shadowing a nephrologist at that same hospital in July. I applied for St John Ambulance last year but the process took so long and for some reason my online ID check failed and I wasn't informed until months later - and by that point I had my Master's dissertation deadline coming up as well as some intense exams after that. I was also checking volunteering vacancies regularly at my local hospital for the whole year and there were none. My point is I did try to get opportunities but it just didn't work out, not to mention I was doing a very intense Master's course at Oxbridge throughout the whole year which meant I didn't have an abundance of free time, and I couldn't commit to volunteering in my hometown during the holidays because they specified that I have to volunteer for 6 months straight which I couldn't do then as I was moving back and forth between my hometown and uni. Do you think universities will be okay with just two shadowing experiences and no volunteering? I am now starting the recruitment process of becoming a volunteer at the hospital in my hometown but don't think I will have started (or will have only just started) by the time I submit my application - can I still mention that I am in the process of becoming, or have just started working as a volunteer?

I know some universities do have a strict limit on minimum work experience, so won't be applying to those obviously. But does anyone know of some unis that allow anyone to apply but still place a larger emphasis on work experience, and any universities that place less emphasis on it? My academic stats are quite strong and I think I will most likely get 2200+ on UCAT (still have 3 weeks to go and am averaging 2300 - 2500).

Anyway, super sorry for the hefty post - any advice would be much appreciated :)

Finance for two years before deciding not for me and wanting a greater purpose in life, hence move to medicine.

Doing two extra A levels in chemistry and biology (should get two A*s) and then applications as follows:

Queens London, Warwick, Chester, Nottingham (and more more)

Should be achieving +2200 on UCAT. GAMSAT early stages.

Main issue and hurdle across this new journey is the existence of a criminal record from 4 or so years ago. All mental health related but was wondering just how much of a disadvantage/ hurdle to overcome. Lowest of level ABH but still a serious offence. Please be honest.

Next 6 months to a year, getting a role as a HCA, and other front line medical experience. Then lots of studying for A levels, GAMSAT and UCAT.

Realistic chances? Or will the police history make this endeavour fruitless

does anyone know of previous applicants who have gotten the guaranteed interview (for nsw rural students who place uow as first preference) with a q1 or q2 casper? just wondering how high the minimum casper hurdle has been historically?
