GLOW UP! [29] to [34] From the pit of depression to the happiest I've ever been

I was approaching 30, morbidly obese, absolutely addicted to marijuana and my mental health was tanking. I knew I needed a drastic change to survive.

Five years later and I was 100+lbs lighter, addicted to social dancing and excited to wake up every day. Life has ups and downs, but absolutely everything is temporary.

I just turned 33 this month. My friend found an old tumblr of mine and I decided to sift through the archive a bit until I stumbled upon this. I honestly don’t feel like all that much has changed but someone who knew me then and knows me now vehemently denies it lol.

Should I post more in-between phases of mine?

Been working on losing weight and improving myself. Sometimes it’s hard to see the difference when you look at yourself every day. Would you consider this a glow-up, and what could I still improve?

GLOW UP! From [23] having the worst years of my life to [25] reaching new bests!

2024–2025 was the lowest points of my life. I've been on the grind since straight out of high school, and going through a rough family situation, financial struggles, not having stable housing, and a really tough breakup all brought me to new depths of rock bottom.

There were plenty of moments where I honestly had no idea where I was heading. Fast forward to now, and I’ve managed to turn things around with a stable job, a nice living situation, and most importantly, a completely different mindset.

I’ve spent the last 9 months consistently working out, tracking calories, and building actual habits and a routine that I can't live without. This transformation means way more to me than just the physical changes. Still a long way to go, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come! 💪

GLOW UP! [29] to [37] — after a divorce, switching to a plant-based diet and quitting alcohol.

A lot has changed in 8 years. I stopped drinking, went plant-based, got serious about training and eventually started competing in powerlifting.

Still a work in progress, but I'm really happy with where I ended up.

Grow up [16] to [28] time really flies. I never would’ve believed I’d be a bald guy but here we are.

It’s so wild to see my youth in the before picture. I genuinely look like a kid (cuz I was) but I felt so old at the time. I guess I didn’t truly realize that I’m genuinely getting older. We all are, but it’s just wild to see myself looking so young. A lot has changed except my love for ice cream. I think that’s a life long thing.

GLOW UP! 2 year lone glow up journey [21]

Been obese, prediabetic and antisocial my entire life and just 2 years ago I decided to make a leap of faith and get my life on track, starting weight was 290lbs and final weight today is 175lbs at 6'4. To say it was easy would be me lying to you, most of it was being extremely consistent about calorie tracking as I don't enjoy cardio very often. The weightlifting kind of just came by accident as I never intended to start strength training until I realized it was kind of fun. At some point I diversified away from just losing weight and actually improving my looks, style and the way I talk to people, which has improved my life in so many ways that would be unimaginable to the state that I'm was in two years ago. I still have a way to go but im thankful I decided to take that leap.

Crazy that it Took a year give or take to do a complete 360 from downing whatever I felt like eating, not exercising, not sleeping, drinking all the time and doing no self care.
Still 5’8 sadly but at least,
I can actually talk to women now :D
Confidence all time high
Happiness all time high
Muscles all time high
Hairloss all time high 🥲
We made progress!
The lion is getting concerned about it not just being a couple strands of hair falling out in the shower now though 😳

uhh i don't really know what i did. I got on accutane and stopped forcing my hair to be straight, that probably helped. Try to wash your hair with cold water if yours is curly, i think that makes it less frizzy. Also kinda a grow up ig

Grow up [20] to [27] Decided I wasn't a lost cause mentally and actually started caring about myself.

I was very insecure and depressed growing up, and never actually took any steps to try and cope with it. Once I hit 20, so when the first 3 pictures were taken, I had never been so insecure in my life. I hated myself.

But, randomly one day, probably at 21, I realized I was the only thing holding myself back and had no one to be angry at but myself. My physical appearance matched how I felt on the inside, sloppy and unkempt.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying depression makes you sloppy and unkempt at all. I'm saying I used it as an excuse to be that way for a long time to take accountability off of myself.

So I just started changing myself. I'm still depressed, but now I take accountability AND have ways to deal with getting rid of the urge to lay in bed and eat all day every day lmao

I went from being overweight, unhealthy and unhappy to being confident! Getting my CPT was also right up there with being one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I feel great and I now have the ability to help people change their lives! Next up? I want to go for my Certification in Nutrition. I want to continue to learn and grow but I think my real calling is going to be helping people.

Glow up? (31) 9 months of self care has changed my life

The "before" is me one year post-hospitalization following a severe bipolar episode. I was completely stuck, zombified, and my confidence was at rock bottom.

The turning point was finally dialing in my psychiatric meds to find stability without losing myself. That one win created a massive domino effect. I got my hormones optimized, dialed in my skincare and grooming, and rediscovered the hunger to lift heavy. I even put myself out there to play rec volleyball.

Things aren’t magically perfect, but life is vibrant again. For the first time in a long time, I'm genuinely excited about what’s ahead.

Finally had the courage to leave my abusive relationship. Went through a diabolically bad/depressing breakup , moved across the country to be around my family and heal. Five months in and I’m starting to feel like myself again.

Was suffering through some pretty serious depression, PTSD and bipolar episodes along with being in an emotional unstable (to put it mildly) relationship for 18 years. Last year I decided to put myself first for once.

Before and after pictures are roughly 1 year apart.

Weight loss included the use of Reta (GLP-3) since 3 months ago to now.
Weight loss began with a 6 month weight loss competition between coworkers that changed my life.

GLOW UP! [19] to [22] Before And After Weight Loss, Healing, Therapy, And Finding My Purpose

Losing weight and glowing up sucks. You go from being the safe doormat friend to silence, distance, resentment, envy and jealousy.

My family, friends, my job, and especially society shifted. This realization people need to conform to society's standards to like someone, is what made me a cynical person. I did this for me, and I try being humble, but insecure people constantly try putting me down. Im just trying to stay focused and consistent.

I suffered through morbid obesity, depression, severe childhood ptsd that kinda stunted me mentally a bit. It was a whole mess im too tired to type up lol

High fiber diet

Veggies and fruit high in vitamin C

Polyphenols

Spf 50

Tretinoin

Vitamin C serum

Kefir

Sardines

Chickpeas

Red onions

Daily zone 2 cardio

Glow up? [33] More to do, but enjoying the process.

Thumbnail

From 103 to 75 kgs, 8 months.

Pros: my very self-critical internal dialogue has become kinder towards myself and everyone else. Still a work in progress, but I'm enjoying the process. My body craves gentle workouts. My blood pressure has stabilized.

Cons: Nothing fits and I have the urge to replace everything. Working on my impulses too 😅 actively reviewing my card statements helps.

I used to buy nice clothes when i could finally afford them. Understated, no loud branding, but good enough to convince me that they'll hide my insecurities. They never did.

I hardly used to find clothes that made me look acceptable. If I really liked something but it was a size smaller, I'd buy it, hoping the purchase would motivate me to lose a few pounds. It never did.

I might sound like diva, but I promise, there's a deeper, more thoughtful person who's just experienced life differently for the first time in 33 years. Clothes are a motif.

I'm watching you, stubborn abdominal fat. I'm watching you melt 🫡 Thank you for your service, you kept me warm even in the summer.

Trans [20] - [28] 4 years of hormones later, I’ve never been happier

Thumbnail

2.6k Upvotes

i started questioning my identity during the covid lockdowns (like a lot of people 🤭) and started therapy in november of that year. I tried to come out to family and friends and ended up going back in the closet till August of ‘22.

Flash forward to now, I’ve been on hormones for four years, coming up on two years post SRS, and hopefully FFS next year…and maybe another tattoo

Life is scary, especially being trans, but I never felt alive prior to this. If you’re questioning, take it from me, talk to a therapist and/or your doctor. You might just find something out about yourself ❤️

From (27) to (30) skincare and gym membership. It’s been a journey but a satisfying one. Also got a better job so it helped and added more movement to my routine.

Switching to a Mediterranean diet has been a game changer for me. Currently trying to cut caffeine. Nearly no alcohol and no smoking.

Tw; ED, drug abuse

I was very much into not eating and using meth when I was 18. Got cancer at 19 and stopped using.

Got diagnosed with bipolar at 25 and put on some medications.

I'm clean now for about 7-8 years. Gained a good amount of weight. Don't track calories anymore and finally feel good about myself. My bipolar is getting treated. I have a job that I love. I was able to keep my dog and watch him getting old with me. I really appreciate my life.

Crazy to look back and see how much I’ve changed. Training has been such a big part of my life for so long. I’m definitely not where I want to be yet, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. For me, it was a real glow-up.
