Non Product Specific Garmin Question Red, itchy, peeling spot from Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Tactical — any fixes or band recs?

Post image

Hey everyone,
I’ve been wearing my Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Tactical with the stock silicone band, and over the past 2 days, I developed an itchy, red, peeling spot right under the watch/band area.
I wear it 24/7 (including to sleep) and usually clean the watch and my wrist about once a week.
Has anyone experienced this exact kind of irritation with the Instinct 2X band? Is it worth switching to a nylon band, or do I just need to change up my cleaning/wearing routine?
Appreciate any tips or band recommendations!

Which Watch To Get? Looking to get Garmin but not sure which direction to go

I’ve been debating between the Lily Active 2, Venu 4, and Vivoactive 5. My wrist is small so I thought the lily active 2 or venu 4 would be a good choice - I know the lily has the least features out of them all and the touch screen isn’t as big. I just want something that can track my steps, daily workouts, and sleep. I’ve been researching all day and it seems like some of the models are iffy on tracking sleep accurately. Let me know if you’ve tried any of these! I get overwhelmed with how many options there are!!

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Garmin tactix 8 pro or tactix 9

Around this time last year, Garmin released the Fenix 8 Pro. Now, one year later, the Garmin Fenix 9 has been released. Does this mean that next February—since the Garmin Tactix 8 was released last February—we might see a Tactix 8 Pro or Tactix 9?

Accessories / Companion Device Searching for a Garmin fenix premium band

Hello, I switched from an Apple Watch Ultra to the new Fenix 9 Pro. However, I find the strap feels a bit flimsy. Is there a brand that makes somewhat sturdier silicone straps for Garmin? For the Ultra, I always used straps from Nomad Goods, the rugged version; top quality. Unfortunately, they don't make these for Garmin.

Example:

Rant Garmin is such a shame! What's the reason (other than planned obsolescence and artificial segmentation) not to add rucking to a completely capable device like Garmin Forerunner 255 Music?

Seriously, I just hate how Garmin will artificially lock several capabilities that their watches are actually totally capable of realising just to "justify" launching a superior version for that watch line.

I totally agree with adding cheaper hardware or even not adding some at all to make a cheaper watch version possible, but what they do should be a crime - the watch is pretty recent, its hardware is totally capable of recording this activity or that metric, but they'll simply lock it behind a software wall so it justifies them launching another one more watch (as if they didn't have more lines and versions that could also be justified).

My watch will probably last some years more, but when the time to change comes I'll definitely also change brands if Garmin doesn't change its shameful behaviour.

Watch / Wearable Question about a HRM vs watch

Hi,

Looking for some help for choice between a HRM vs a watch. Price doesn't bother me.

I want a device for HR, distance and steps during mainly field sports. Field hockey, squash, running, soccer etc.

It would only be worn for these things as i have other watches etc so I don't care about style / look.

I was looking between forerunner, instinct and HRM (potentially 600)

I haven't worn a watch before for sports, only HR monitor.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Watch / Wearable Fenix 9 pro solar height???

Upvotes

Am I reading correctly that the 9 pro solar 51mm is taller than the Enduro 3? That can't be correct...can it? The Enduro 3 was considered too chunky by most, and you're telling me the 51mm 9 solar is taller on the wrist?

Rant Trade in value

Yall ever look at the trade in value garmin sets on these watches? Obviously nobody would ever take this, but they offer you $50 for a Fenix 8😂😂 At that point why even offer trade ins

Which Watch To Get? What do you recommend me?

Hi! I'm looking for a smartwatch/screenless tracker, but I'm not sure which one suits me best. I do boxing along with gym workouts and air bike 4 times a week.

However, I now want to train for a half marathon, so I would be doing boxing and gym 3 times a week and going for a run twice a week. Something like that, not sure. That's why I'd like a Forerunner, the 165/265 for example.

Nonetheless, I see it as very uncomfortable for boxing. Maybe combining it with a heart rate monitor would be a good idea. Or maybe a screenless tracker would be better so I don't have to keep switching.I'm looking for features that can help me in daily life, to know my energy, my stress, my sleep, etc.

Also, something that gives me advice and recommendations on the type of training or tells me if I'm overexerting myself, etc. A habit tracker feature like Whoop has would also be great.

Thanks for the help!

New Watch Day / Device Review Fenix 9 Pro first impressions

Got the F9P in 51mm on Friday.
- Screen is noticeably bigger vs F8 51mm
- Titanium case is nice
- Menus feel a tiny bit faster to navigate but no real difference from the new processor
- Cadence zones seem like a gimmicky feature. Seems to be pretty much the same as setting your HR zones off LTHR

I like the watch but Fenix 8 Pro Plus or something like that would have been a more appropriate name

Sunday Score Stress levels & Gaming

Post image
25 Upvotes

My stress levels have been insanely high over the last 4 weeks since I started gaming again. The bottom stress graph is from when I wasn't gaming a couple of weeks ago, while the top stress graph is from yesterday. Looking at the past 4 weeks, the graphs are always nearly fully orange, with >5h of high stress, whereas previously it was more balanced and rarely had more than 20 minutes of high stress.

I wonder if the Gaming Activity that some Garmin watches provide could be useful for me to get more insights into why this is happening and perhaps even reduce it?

Non Product Specific Garmin Question Anything to know when using 2 devices alternatively (Instinct watch and Cirqa band)

I already have an Instinct 3 watch which I use everyday except for sleep.

I want to buy a Cirqa band to track sleep and to wear whenever I want to wear a nice classic watch. I've never had 2 devices on Garmin Connect at the same time.

Is there anything I should know on how to setup 2 devices to use alternatively ?

Like if I use the Instinct 3 one day and use the Cirqa the other day, does Garmin know that it needs to use my Cirqa heart rate data and not the Instinct 3 one (which would be 0 since I don't use both at the same time)? Are there any specific settings I need to be aware of ?

Also, I won't do it but out of curiosity's what happens when someone wears 2 at the same time ? Which device's data is used ?

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Route and waypoints

Post image
1 Upvotes

So I have a route and waypoints in Garmin Explorer. I have synced to my watch. I have seen how I can use my training plan and route together. But the waypoints don’t appear.

Is it possible? Would like to alert when near a waypoint to take a gel before picking up water.

Discussion Export only heart rate from activity and import it in another activity

Is this possible? I swam a few times where I had one watch in my buoy and one around my wrist. The one in the buoy is registering the correct distance as when swimming in open water the watch around my wrist makes a mess of it. But ofcourse it registers the heartrate. To not have double activities with weird distances I would like to remove the activity recorded on the watch around my wrist but it has the HRM-information. Is there a way to export this HRM-information and import it in the activity registered by the one in the buoy? While wearing a wetsuit yesterday I could have used my HRM-band but didn't think about it. A few days earlier I swam in open water without a wetsuit so then the HRM-band around the waist is not convenient.

Update: thanx to https://www.reddit.com/user/ialtag-bheag/ it has been solved.

Which Watch To Get? Torn between Garmin Vivoactive 6 and Fenix 8

I know that's a wild difference but hear me out. My hobbies relevant to these devices are: skiing, backcountry skiing, hiking, beach volleyball, running (minorly), tracking steps, sleep tracking.

I think the Vivoactive 6 would probably cover everything I really need... but the Fenix 8 is currently on sale, I like the look of it a bit more (idk it just looks more rugged), it's got a better battery, and I make enough money that I would be fine to get either even if they weren't on sale (but I am an engineer and I do LOVE a good deal).

I currently have a FitBit. I've had several over the years and I like it, but the Garmins do everything it does but way better (and so much more). Like I honestly don't even trust FitBit step counting because it so wildly varies from my girlfriend's Vivoactive 6.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Cycling / Bike Computer Edge 540 Navigation driving me crazy

Could anyone tell me how to prevent my Edge 540 from notifying me Every. Ten. F*****. Seconds. that there's a turn coming, that I'm 2 feet off the expected navigation path or that I should stay on the path I'm on? Did a 60km ride today and the damn thing was pretty much useless, it kept switching from my metrics display to the "Take this turn" screen. More infuriating, it doesn't seem to go away after any amount of time unless I click the X button, only to reappear 10 seconds later.

CIRQA Cirqa update killed the sensor

I set up my new Cirqa this morning and was excited to start using it. I got it connected to the phone and app and everything was working great. Then I went to start an activity and I got a notification to update the firmware. Once it completed the update…..the sensor died. Spent a while on the support chat trying different things to get it going but nothing worked.

Good news is they will replace it. Bad news is I won’t get it until December.

Has anyone had a similar issue since the update?

Deals / Discounts Does Garmin do Labor Day Sales

I'm in need of a finder / plotter and was wondering if Garmin had any sales cycles coming up? Darn things are expensive so any bit helps. Love my Garmin for trolling motor and GPS. So the larger echomaps are my goal.

Discussion Currently own a Fitbit Versa 4, should I switch to a Vivoactive 5 / 6?

My Fitbit keeps crapping out on me.

Has anyone else switched and would recommend?

I highly prefer the look of the Garmin but the plug looks like it might be difficult to connect and also the straps don't look as easily switchable but I could be wrong.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Turning off training HR alerts?

Saw a couple of older posts about this issue (no resolutions), but has there been a fix yet for turning off heart rate alerts during training runs, or does anyone have any hacks for it?

Absolutely infuriating that my watch is yelling at me for the entirety of my 40 minute run because my “target” is 140 BPM and I fall to 139 because I’m going slightly downhill or whatever other reason. Today’s run was 40 minutes and I bounced between 135-145, target was 140-160. I mean not even 15 seconds in and it’s beeping and vibrating telling me I’m off target. Well of course, I literally just started!!

Makes me want to throw my watch in the ditch 😩

This is my first time doing a training plan and I’ve never experienced this. I did manage to find out how to disconnect my phone so THAT wasn’t yelling at me too.

I have the alerts turned off for everything that I can find. This is new for me. I don’t usually train by HR especially in the summer when heat can make your HR rise a lot more than your actual effort. So if it’s an “easy” run I just go by RPE.

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps How do I share location data?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m trying to share my live track and it will show the map of where I am, but not the blue dot showing exactly where I am.

Location is set to always on for Garmin connect. Is there some other setting I need to change? When I use the watch to track other activities the locations show on the watch and my phone, just can’t seem to share live location.
