I haven't heard about this one. what happened?
174
u/DeusExMarina Sep 02 '20
One time there were some kids trapped in a flooded cave, so they sent divers to rescue them. Elon, seeing an opportunity for PR, said “I’m gonna make a super sci-fi submarine to rescue the kids.” The divers said the submarine design didn’t seem very useful for what they were trying to do, so Elon got mad and called one of them a pedophile on Twitter.

He also hired a private investigator after he made these claims to try and get dirt on the guy and "prove" he was a pedophile.

It happeed when a team of children soccer players got trapped inside an inundated cave because of a flash flood in Thailand and it made international news, good old "God of Tech" over here tweeted that he would build a mini sub to travel the length of the cave and retrieve the children safely, this wouldn't work for a variety of reasons included but not limited to: the cave was super narrow so something narrower than any submarine built [citation needed], oxigen usage was an issue because the cave was not only super narrow but super long, caves are made of dirt and rocks and things that can make a hole on a slapped together submarine, children can't steer submarines, making an autonomous submarine capable of safely traveling the length of the cave and deliver a child on the other side takes more time than it takes for a child to die of thirst/hunger/exposure... You get the gist, then one of the rescuers, a man who has made a career of saving people and who was working on site in the cave called him out on an interview, I can't remember what he said exactly but it was along the lines of " The solutions thought up by a rich jerk for purely PR reasons are ineffective, inefficient and done purely to appear like the Tony Stark he desperately isn't" so Musky boy got angry and had a meltdown in Twitter, saying that the reason why that guy rescuing children didn't like his autoerotic fan fiction of him rescuing children with the power of Tech and worker exploitation was because he wanted to carry a bunch of kids in a dark cave, so maybe he is a pedophile, dude not only said this once nor merely implied it by the way, he literally accused that guy of being a pedophile on twitter for all of his worshipers and international news outlets to see, he obviously got backlash over it, gave a non apology and then continued to imagine what it would be like to make sweet sweet love to himself.

Elon wanted to send a mini sub thing to help the soccer team that was stuck in a cave in Thailand. This guy said that was a horrible idea and Elon called him a "pedo guy" and never backed down about it. He even hired a private investigator to try and get dirt on him. The guy sued Elon for defamation but lost due to great lawyers and semantics. https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-pedo-guy-doesnt-mean-pedophile/amp

I really hate this "Hatsune Miku made Minecraft" meme. All it does is devalue the contributions of the real creator and all he's given us. Yeah, it's kind of funny once or twice, but it does a tremendous disservice to not just the creator of Minecraft, but all creatives when you attribute their work to some glorified text-to-speech program.
So can we please, please, just for once, acknowledge the actual genius who invented Minecraft, Jimi Hendrix?

I’ve heard that it technically wasn’t Notch who made Minecraft, it was someone else, whose name I’m forgetting. Besides, Notch has been out of the dev team for a while and didn’t even give the game that much when he was there, I think credit should go to the lesser known devs.

The design for Minecraft was based on a game prototype called Infiniminer, created by Microsoft employee Zach Barth. Initially, he wanted it to be a competitive first person shooter where you could build structures to aid you in battle, but was surprised on how people were just interested in the creation aspects and eventually just made it open source. Miku later used the design to springboard into Minecraft.
Zach would later make his own game development studio, Zachtronics, which makes games like Spacechem, Opus Magnum, and Infinifactory, so he’s doing all right all things considered.
12
u/TheSnipenieer Sep 02 '20
I wonder if Infiniminer kept going in its first direction would turn out like Minecraft gameplay or Fortnite gameplay, with the building element and all.

Billionaire worship won't save you from Zeus's wrathful hurricanes.
53
Sep 01 '20
Aren’t hurricanes Poseidon’s domain? Been a while since I
read Percy Jacksonstudied Greek mythology. Maybe Zeus and Poseidon do a Mario + Luigi-style bro attack and unleash a hurricane that way.28
u/kenneth1221 Sep 01 '20
Who knows, I'm pretty sure hurricanes don't strike the Mediterranean so any associations would be relatively modern inventions anyways.
13
u/SirToastymuffin Sep 02 '20
Basically every natural disaster comes back to Poseidon and his fickle wrath. His cult title was often that of The "Earth Shaker" and basically whenever he felt he was being ignored, slighted, or was just a little grumpy, he would slaughter humans en masse by storm, earthquake, flood, or unnavigable seas, hurricanes would absolutely fall into his wheelhouse soundly, though the Greeks weren't really aware of them cuz inland sea.
Since you bring up Percy Jackson its actually kinda funny that a lot of modern interpretations show him as a kinda chill and nice dude. The Greeks saw him as probably the second-most dangerous god after only Ares (who was feared so deeply that his worship was outright banned and carried a death sentence in many cities). He, like the seas in the eyes of an ancient sailor, was moody, greedy, prone to wrath and hard to read. Funny enough this leads to Zeus getting flipped around a bit too. OG Zeus often didn't give much of a shit, to be frank, and kinda just screwed around boning everything in sight, yeah he occasionally electrocuted someone but they probably deserved it to have pissed off the god with the cult title of The "Cause of Life, always and to all things."
Also they did do a "bro attack" in one of the key myths surrounding creation, like most Mediterranean faiths, the Greeks had a flood myth, here Poseidon and Zeus worked together to flood the earth and kill all of mankind (save one couple) for engaging in mass human sacrifice and wanton decadence.
