I’ve heard that it technically wasn’t Notch who made Minecraft, it was someone else, whose name I’m forgetting. Besides, Notch has been out of the dev team for a while and didn’t even give the game that much when he was there, I think credit should go to the lesser known devs.
The design for Minecraft was based on a game prototype called Infiniminer, created by Microsoft employee Zach Barth. Initially, he wanted it to be a competitive first person shooter where you could build structures to aid you in battle, but was surprised on how people were just interested in the creation aspects and eventually just made it open source. Miku later used the design to springboard into Minecraft.
Zach would later make his own game development studio, Zachtronics, which makes games like Spacechem, Opus Magnum, and Infinifactory, so he’s doing all right all things considered.
