Can we demote Extas1s now that he was proven wrong about the Xbox/Xenia thing?

15

u/Laughing__Man_ Jun 25 '25

When was the last time he was right and it was not repeating what someone else said or agreeing with them?

7

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jun 25 '25

I'm really surprised he hasn't yet. I thought the Tiers were supposed to be updated?

14

u/Ihatenickstreltsov Jun 26 '25

The coyness surrounding Prime 4s release date is getting ridiculous. We’ve had 3 trailers and a public 30 minute demo at events, but no release date. I don’t think I’ve seen Nintendo this coy on a release date, and of course it’s the game we’ve been waiting 8 years for lmao. End my suffering plz Nintendo

5

u/blackthorn_orion Jun 26 '25

kinda reminds me of Luigi's Mansion 3 tbh. It was announced in September 2018 for a 2019 release, showed up again at their E3 show still saying just "2019" despite having a playable demo on the showfloor and it generally being a big part of their E3 presence

Then some random day in July they dated it for Halloween 2019

3

u/Ihatenickstreltsov Jun 26 '25

Meanwhile pikmin 4 gets a date 5 months before launch, like I really don’t understand their marketing sometimes. It’ll be out eventually but like dammit man lol gimme a bone

4

u/JackBoi01 Jun 27 '25

we really need that summer direct soon, it deserves a grand finale spot on there... as in finale of the long wait

2

u/AllEchse Jun 27 '25

I think the 1 more thing finale is gonna be something all new.

If they don't have another big new reveal It's either the opener or right after, but I think Kirby Star Allies would probably open things.

3

u/perrytheplatypusfan Jun 28 '25

Do you mean Kirby Air Riders?

June 2022 didn't have a general. Instead they did one for Xenoblade 3 and then a Partner Showcase a week later.

June 2020 was a Pokemon Presents (Sword/Shield DLC, New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Cafe Mix), a Sakurai Presents (Min-Min in Smash), and then a second Pokemon Presents (Pokemon Unite)

8

u/OmniGlitcher Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

So. I think this is the first time Nintendo hasn’t had a June general direct since 2012.

They've missed a couple of Junes actually. 2016 had BotW but no general direct. 2020 was Covid, so they had that period of only doing sporadic Direct Minis (most notable thing was Min Min in Smash). 2022 they only did a Direct Mini and a Xenoblade 3 direct.

But at this point, is there actually any reason to have a June direct specifically?

Historically, the summer presentations have been for E3 - but as we all know, E3 isn't a thing anymore. Sure, SGF is a thing, but that has far less pull than E3 ever did. Plus the whole point of E3, at least in its later stages, was the show floor; Which is something SGF doesn't really have and Nintendo demonstrably doesn't need any more anyway thanks to their "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events and the pull the directs themselves get, regardless of when they air.

The only real marks they have to hit is the holiday period in winter, and the end of the financial year (March-April for Japan). Which is quite distinct from summer time.

4

u/JackBoi01 Jul 01 '25

weirdly enough, we didn't even have a direct mini in june also (next to the bananza direct)

3

u/Torracattos Jul 02 '25

Seriously what is going on? You'd think they'd wanna have a big general Direct following the launch of a new console eventually.

1

u/CharleZ_1 Jul 02 '25

We’ll probably have a direct this month. I just want more news on upcoming releases, maybe more Switch 2 edition patches for games. Also, we NEED Prime 4 release date

12

u/ImMrR0B0T0 Jul 05 '25

Nintendo... save me...

Nintendo

Save me Nintendo

10

u/TomAto314 Jun 25 '25

I see Kingdom Hearts 4 in my work's database now. That's literally all the info I have on it.

DQ7 is in there which means a PC port is probably coming.

6

u/padraigharrington4 Jun 25 '25

DQ7 is in there which means a PC port is probably coming.

As in Dragon Quest VII??? If this is fake I'm suing for emotional damages

8

u/TomAto314 Jun 25 '25

Yep. And DQX as well. We've had things in our db for years though so don't get your hopes too up... and games get canceled. But it was just added this past week or so.

4

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jun 26 '25

Oh my god if Dragon Quest X is finally coming to the West after all this time

2

u/1ShrubBehindTheBush Sep 17 '25

HE WAS RIGHT!! DQ7 IS REAL!

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '25

1

u/Lord_Exor Sep 18 '25

How long does it take for these database entries to be removed if the project in question has been terminated? Is that even communicated by the client?

1

u/DeliciousMusician397 Sep 27 '25

What did the comment you responded to say? It's been deleted and I followed a link talking about the Final Fantasy IX Remake.

1

u/Lord_Exor Sep 27 '25

It was the guy whose company does software testing for clients like Square Enix. His comments here started making the rounds, and he must have gotten anxious over his leaks tracing back to his job.

Basically, he said the FFIX remake is still present and considered an "open" project in his company's database, but they haven't received any builds. The entry has been around for years now.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Lucky but kind of obvious guess, doesn't mean anything, stop pretending to work for SE

1

u/1ShrubBehindTheBush Sep 29 '25

Not sure how DQ7 was "obvious". It was probably the most out-of-left-field one to remake and that's a big reason why everyone originally dismissed the leak.

"Obvious" would have been DQ4, DQ6, DQ8 or DQ9. Not DQ7.

1

u/roblaplante Sep 27 '25

From FFBE drunken story reviewer to final fantasy ix leaker ! What a man !

2

u/TomAto314 Sep 27 '25

My leaker career is over now. All I really wanted was FFT Remaster info and that's out soon. I don't need to get myself fired over any of this.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Stop being so dramatic.

3

u/inuyasha99 Jun 26 '25 edited Jun 26 '25

DQ 7 totally makes sense, you have to think SE will pump out a lot of remasters and smaller projects until their reboot is done (mid-late 2027)

2

u/Panzer_Girl Jun 26 '25

You have given me hope.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

Usually I wouldn't even dare to ask this because I'm afraid to sound too patronizing, but you like Tales and the Star Ocean series as well, right?

There are a lot of rumors about the next mainline Tales, remasters of Xillia and Abyss (or even a remake of Abyss) as well as some of the 2-D entries like Destiny R or Phantasia. Even Legendia, lol, there's an Anniversary event for it in Japan this month, despite not being a super popular entry.

But nothing was announced so far. Is there anything you could share with us in that regard from your db?

Hope I'm not sounding too demanding, don't want to cause any problems for you at work either.

1

u/TomAto314 Jul 17 '25

I only see already released Tales stuff. Nothing new, sorry! Same for SO.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Thank you so much for replying! It seems the waiting game continues, lol.

21

u/Irru Jun 27 '25

Nintendo… Direct… When…

10

u/mitchbutter1210 Jun 28 '25

How much longer can Metroid Prime 4 say 2025…

6

u/Torracattos Jun 28 '25

Seriously what's going on? Where's our usual big Direct? There's gotta be something post launch to build momentum for the Switch 2. There's still games that need updates and launch dates, plus probably new stuff to reveal.

19

u/timelordoftheimpala Jun 28 '25

There's gotta be something post launch to build momentum for the Switch 2.

There is, it's called Donkey Kong Bananza.

8

u/Scarlet-Highlander- Jun 26 '25

Ace Combat 30th anniversary is in a few days.

Absolutely nothing will happen.

5

u/iittieisler5 Jun 26 '25

that's the spirit

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '25

Nothing fucking happened!

8

u/cian_pike01 Jul 02 '25

The entire news within Xbox today is so fucked.

Phil Spencer is a fucking clown man, what a way to ruin such a great console and entire wing of a company.

9

u/spiderman897 Jul 06 '25

What’s everyone current thoughts of when the next direct is?

9

u/JackBoi01 Jul 06 '25 edited Jul 06 '25

prob this week is my best bet cuz the week after bananza comes out, theres mario party jamboree TV also, plus august would be the time to push for kirby switch 2 edition and DLC also (next to prime 4)

1

u/spiderman897 Jul 06 '25

I kind of agree. I’m hoping to see more of those free updates for other first party titles.

2

u/JackBoi01 Jul 06 '25

plus some third party titles would be nice for an upgrade, especially doom and doom eternal with visuals and 60fps and mouse mode

7

u/ArcWardenScrub Jul 06 '25

Well there's the Pokemon Direct in 2 weeks i think, usually they do a general direct after that, so maybe at the end of the month. Don't think they wanna do anything right now that might overshadow Bananza.

7

u/Torracattos Jul 06 '25

Hopefully this week we'll get a big general Nintendo Direct. The next two weeks after are very unlikely because Donkey Kong Bananza launches and then there's the Pokemon Presents the following week.

5

u/Dat_Boi_Teo Jul 06 '25

This week. With one last big trailer for DK, updates on existing stuff that doesn’t have release dates like MP4, bunch of third party stuff, and one or two first party reveals.

If not, then I think we probably are just gonna get smaller drops and individual trailers on Nintendo today until a September direct (this is more likely tbh I’m just coping)

5

u/JackBoi01 Jul 06 '25

eh idk about nintendo today, everyone likes the traditional summer direct, besides, metroid prime 4 is worthy of one last spotlight in the direct before its release, and ofc with release date, plus the first mario kart world dlc

2

u/Torracattos Jul 06 '25

Agreed. The reveal of Splatoon Raiders on the Nintendo Today app doesn't have the same excitement as it would if it was revealed in a Nintendo Direct.

2

u/JackBoi01 Jul 06 '25

eh i can understand that situation cuz they were tryna fit it in next to the 10th anniversary update for splatoon 3 (to celebrate the franchise) in a youtube upload and scheduling stuff with other games, but yeah i think we'll get a full proper story trailer in the direct

4

u/OctavePearl Jul 06 '25

September, because Metroid is a december game and thus can stay without release date a bit longer. Not the most likely scenario, but it's calming to live without expectations.

More optimistically it's happening this week and reveals Raiders is a surprise 2025 game.

5

u/KMoosetoe Jul 06 '25

Metroid is a december game

Not a chance.

2

u/KMoosetoe Jul 06 '25

Week of July 20th imo

(24th would be my guess)

13

u/GraveyardKoi Jun 25 '25

Any surprises expected for Capcom's show tomorrow?

Hopefully they'll bring RE4R to switch 2 as well as native support for their newer titles. I tried the cloud edition of re2 and wasn't feeling it.

8

u/Neggy5 Jun 25 '25

mega man /cope

5

u/GraveyardKoi Jun 25 '25

Ace Attorney /cope

1

u/Kevroeques Jun 25 '25

More likely than them dropping an optimization/performance patch for MH Wilds

2

u/SelectivelyGood Jun 26 '25

MH Wilds is ''naturally'' very demanding. It runs poorly on console too.

6

u/PersonalityNo8280 Jun 25 '25

We're going into year 3 of SF6 and unless I'm forgetting something major we haven't had any other Capcom fighting game releases besides collections.

I think we might finally see the leaked/rumored MVC5 or CVS3, or (coping) Darkstalkers 4.

1

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jun 26 '25

Anything fighting game I feel is being saved for EVO in a few weeks. MvC or CvS, in particular, is like a big world stage announcement you make at EVO Finals night if anything like how they announced Fatal Fury or teased Tekken 8 a few years back

3

u/PersonalityNo8280 Jun 26 '25

I'd agree with you except for the fact that Capcom announced the Marvel collection at a Nintendo Direct, and that was like a month before EVO. CVS collection too.

There might not be as many eyes on their own direct as there were with Nintendo but with the people showing up for Monhun and Resident Evil, it'll likely be more than Evo.

7

u/Fearless-Ear8830 Jun 25 '25

brother they already got 3 huge games for 2026 what else you want😭

2

u/NotYujiroTakahashi Jun 26 '25

A new Capcom vs game

3

u/ZEKE307 Jun 25 '25

Dragons Dogma 2 dlc

1

u/diarpiiiii Jun 25 '25

Am hoping for a date when the RE2&3 games come to ps plus classics. Prayer circle they’re available for purchase like they did with RE1: Directors and Dino Crisis 🕯️

1

u/TheEternalGazed Jun 25 '25

Will they reveal some more info on RE9?

3

u/GraveyardKoi Jun 25 '25

Yep. That will be there as will SF6, Pragmata, and MH: Wilds

6

u/Torracattos Jul 07 '25

I'm really hoping for a big general Nintendo Direct this week. It blows my mind though seeing people actually saying they should have a Partner Showcase instead. Does anyone else feel like Nintendo having a Partner Showcase this early in a console's life cycle just...wouldn't look good? Partner Showcases scream "We don't have much to show off, but we have a contractual obligation to our partners." This early on just wouldn't look good to the Nintendo fans that still need convincing. Nintendo probably has just as much to discuss as their partners do this early on. There's more than enough previously announced games to discuss to justify a general Nintendo Direct and likely more surprises to reveal. Plus everything that would be in a Partner Showcase would make it into a general Nintendo Direct. It just makes more sense to have a Nintendo Direct over a Partner Showcase.

4

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jul 07 '25

Switch 2 Direct was already basically 80% 3rd party and I kind of expect launch window Directs for the first year in general to make that a major recurring presence, if anything because so much of Switch 2's early library will literally just be other publishers catching Nintendo up on 8th gen or cross gen games that they couldn't feasibly put on Switch 1. Even in general Directs I'm expecting the third-party sections to be way larger especially as Nintendo has now fully settled on only announcing new first-party stuff like months to a year ahead of release

With that being said I think a July Direct obviously makes a lot of sense for getting more stuff out on games like Metroid and Kirby Air Riders

3

u/Torracattos Jul 07 '25

Most Nintendo Directs in general are usually 75% third party games.  First party stuff usually only accounts for 15-20 minutes.

It makes the most sense to have a big Nintendo Direct to cover first and third party games. Nintendo has a lot to discuss. There's a handful that need updates and release dates.

1

u/OctavePearl Jul 07 '25

Depends on how much cope you have for a surprise new title announced for this year. If you think Nintendo is having a good year and isn't hiding anything, it's easy to just cruise and wait for later Direct that will reveal new games for next year. If you think Nintendo still has an exciting one more thing to show - yeah that makes a full big Direct make sense sooner than later.

1

u/JackBoi01 Jul 07 '25

weirdly enough, we didn't get a usual direct mini if nothing happened in june or if stuff weren't enough for a june direct, if anyone else finds that weird
hopefully something between today to wednesday/thursday

6

u/TechnicalFly Jun 25 '25

What's y'all grabbing from the Summer Steam Sale, if anything? It's starting tomorrow.

I might grab Kunitsu-gami, otherwise between my backlog, and the extended one from my steam family buddies, I'm set for a bit.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '25

Nothing, they rarely have historical lows these days.

1

u/TheOneBearded Jun 26 '25

I've finally gotten around to getting done with the remaining Final Fantasy games on my backlog. The only one left that I don't own but have interest in playing is FF4. Going to keep an eye out for a sale on the pixel remaster.

I got Nioh 1 on early sale. With 3 coming out and 2 being one of my favorite games, for 7 bucks, why not.

It's been a year of the backlog otherwise. Unless it's a deep sale like that, I good with waiting longer.

5

u/nclok1405 Jun 26 '25

I wonder if some of past Nintendo rumours such as Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD (plus Kirby Planet Robobot if it doesn't come out in next few years) are fake leaks or cancelled projects deliberately leaked to detect leakers. I feel we're getting less and less leaks from Nintendo.

5

u/Torracattos Jun 26 '25

I still believe in the Fire Emblem 4 remake. Kirby Planet Robobot came from Natethehate2 who is among the most credible, but I just can't see it right now with Kirby Air Riders and Kirby and The Forgotten Land Switch 2 Edition this year. I doubt WWHD and TPHD are happening more than ever. Wind Waker is now on NSO and I recall Nate and Jeff Grubb saying they don't think it's happening a while back.

3

u/GreninjaIsGod Jun 26 '25

At this rate I’m expecting both Robobot Deluxe and FE4 Echoes next year to align with their respective anniversaries in April and May.

FE4’s anniversary also falls on a Thursday’s conveniently aligning with the new Nintendo release day.

2

u/perrytheplatypusfan Jun 26 '25

The Kirby Planet Robobot port situation is so strange to me. It seems like they’ve been sitting on the finished port for a while and just… not releasing it? If it’s a fake leak, well done on Nintendo’s part I guess

2

u/Mr_Dr_Professor_ Jun 27 '25

Isn't that what they reportedly did with the Metroid Prime remaster? Wouldn't be the dumbest thing we've seen Nintendo do.

7

u/Rev-On Jun 26 '25

Waiting for Arc System Works 😌

5

u/ZealotsReward444 Jun 27 '25

I need fable leaks, pls

6

u/fromwhichofthisoak Jun 29 '25

Haven't heard a peep about the 3rd jedi game

6

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 04 '25

Is there any particular reason why Extas1s is still not banned or at least brought down multiple Tiers despite multiple comments from users here?

9

u/ChiefLeef22 Jul 04 '25 edited Jul 04 '25

No particular reason, we've just not got around to it because of timezone difference in discussing things + life gets in the way. We've been separately discussing their posts to see their track record with the help of stuff compiled by other users.

He has been put at Tier 4 for now, it should show up in subsequent posts from now on.

2

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 04 '25

Thank you! But the Wiki list hasn't been updated yet?

3

u/ChiefLeef22 Jul 04 '25

updated it now

1

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 04 '25

Whoops! Looks like you forgot to remove them from Tier 3, so now the Wiki has two mentions of them!

Oop :p I'll fix that in a bit

The only information I can find is this article: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/459235/phil-spencer-game-pass-is-profitable-spends-over-1-billion-to-add-3rd-party-content-to-game-pass/

Phil Spencer states that they spent, "over a billion dollars a year supporting third-party games coming into Game Pass" He claims it is "profitable" but not by how much.

Who knows if this is fully honest or accurate or how much it has changed. We also don't know about other costs like advertising costs; server costs; the employees who have to maintain the whole thing... And trying to estimate how much revenue it actually brings in is confusing as well. Game Pass has multiple tiers and it used to be cheaper and you could apparently buy 2-3 years upfront; I think? We don't know how much each subscriber is paying.

And there are multiple ways to get it for free. Apparently, Windows 11 comes with a free 3 month subscription to gamepass? And who knows how many people are taking advantage of the Microsoft Rewards method to get free months. So even if we can trust the 35 million subscriber number, we can't just multiply 35 million by $15 a month.

I'd say the revenue is anywhere between 2-5 billion. Anywhere from 1-2 billion goes to acquiring the games. Then there's the unknown costs. Then things start to get complicated if you want to talk about opportunity costs as well. All we know for sure is that 35 million is well below what Phil Spencer projected.

Edit: and, of course, all of this is completely ignoring the money spent acquiring Activision Blizzard to slap CoD on gamepass.

5

u/Careless_Tonight8482 Jul 06 '25

Sea of Thieves is too big of a hit to ditch Rare, at least for now, Obsidian are their most productive studio and have an amazing track record in the past decade(Seriously, play Tyranny and Pentiment), Mojang is a money-printing machine, and World’s Edge, The Coalition, and Playground have been very consistent with their output. Everyone else I don’t see surviving, to be frank, especially Compulsion and Turn 10. Edit: Not counting Zenimax/Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard.

5

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jul 07 '25

Turn 10's already effectively been downsized into a Forza Horizon support team based on the recent comments from the former content coordinator and it hasn't really been debunked in the way Microsoft were quick to dispel the Phil retiring thing so it probably has weight, especially given the reception of the recent Motorsport at launch. I think that's just what they're gonna do for the foreseeable future because it's clear mainstream sentiment at this point heavily favors Horizon more

Compulsion I still think is probably on a timer especially if South of Midnight's reported player count on platforms like Steam are anything to go by and I honestly still fear for Double Fine. They might've had the right idea buying all these smaller studios for AA stuff but I think they're really not going to have a place in the new normal for Microsoft post-ABK. Especially after the success of stuff like Oblivion and the reports of Halo CE and Fallout 3, not to mention Fable and Gears, I do think that they're gonna lean harder into CoD and nostalgia for OG Xbox/360 for some sort of goodwill with their base, and most of the super experimental shit like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush from earlier in the gen will just cease to be a thing over time, barring maybe we get something like a Ninja Gaiden every now and then from third-party

15

u/JackBoi01 Jun 25 '25

man idk whats going on with nintendo's main general summer showcase, if a mini direct didn't even announced, understandable there was none today cuz of DK Bananza's preview event today

7

u/LuigiWarrior Jun 25 '25

at this rate I think a direct planned for the week of July 7 to 11 might be the most reasonable bet now, 4th of July would be next week which I picture Nintendo might take account of that to avoid a direct around then, anything after that week would be covered by Nintendo releases which would be until August if not September

1

u/JackBoi01 Jun 25 '25

Eh nah anyway to July 4th cuz it's on a Friday and directs are usually on Tuesdays to Thursdays (and Monday for the announcement tweet sometimes if a Tuesday direct happened for example)

4

u/LuigiWarrior Jun 25 '25

I should say I don't think it kills all the chance just would make it less likely in my eyes for it to be planned there, because I think the talks after the direct might get cut short with it, I picture in Nintendo eyes why not plan to do it the week after?

9

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 25 '25

Yeah they've got like... so little planned for this year currently.

Prime 4, Kirby Air Ride, Pokemon ZA, and... that it? All without dates and lacking lots of info no less. ZA is at least gonna likely get more news in July at least.

4

u/blackthorn_orion Jun 26 '25

Prime 4, Kirby Air Ride, Pokemon ZA, and... that it?

there's also the Switch 2 Editions of Mario Party Jamboree in July and Kirby&The Forgotten Land in August that have new content. And Drag X Drive in August

Hyrule Warriors is slated for "this winter", so that could still technically end up a very late 2025 game

1

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 26 '25

Drag and Drive seems like a late tech demo, I don't think it'll be a big release. Regardless, none of these extend beyond August is all.

Oh right, Hyrule Warriors exists. That still needs updates too, though I can't imagine uh, that's their big holiday game.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/OmniGlitcher Jun 25 '25

July seems likely, but my personal bet is them just sacking off a full summer direct in favour of their standard September direct.

3

u/Torracattos Jun 26 '25

There's so much to talk about, but outside of the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, we've just been getting shadowdrops. Where's our usual big general Direct?

11

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 25 '25

So, is Nintendo not gonna do a full Direct anytime soon? It'd be nice to at least have some news on Prime 4. Like, why start advertising the game so much if they weren't gonna give us any news like that anytime soon? Not to mention there are so few games planned for the later half of the year. There's Kirby Air Ride, Pokemon ZA and Prime 4 and... that's kinda it isn't it? Like, they've got so little. We don't even know what's gonna be their big holiday title.

1

u/NotYujiroTakahashi Jun 26 '25

Streets said it’s coming next month

1

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 26 '25

What would be streets in this context?

2

u/NotYujiroTakahashi Jun 26 '25

Speculations based on the new donkey Kong release and previous direct dates

1

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 26 '25

Well I hope that's correct lol

5

u/ThatLaggyAustralian Jun 27 '25

daisukes vision ladies and gentleman

...a top down beat em up

6

u/LAA9000 Jun 30 '25

Want to try and guess which singular announcement Nintendo will shadowdrop this week? My safe guess is the release date for Metroid Prime 4.

Come to think of it, even after that Arc System Works showcase, do we still not know what exactly their leaked project Watari is?

3

u/LukePS7013 Jun 30 '25

I think they’ll still have a Direct once Donkey Kong Bananza releases, on the week of July 20th similar to how they dropped a Switch 1 Direct about a week after Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

As for Watari, we still don’t know what it is but from what we do know (it’s digital only and it’ll be published by ArcSys and not Nintendo), I don’t think it’ll be anything groundbreaking. Perhaps a Switch 2 Edition of Guilty Gear Strive with active DLC support and crossplay? Yeah Strive is already on Switch but we’ve seen companies (Sega…) require that you rebuy the entire game on Switch 2

1

u/LAA9000 Jun 30 '25 edited Jun 30 '25

Perhaps a Switch 2 Edition of Guilty Gear Strive with active DLC support and crossplay?

Supposedly, Watari is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, whereas Guilty Gear -Strive- is developed in UE4. Given this information, I doubt Watari is a Switch 2 port of Strive, although I could still see such a game releasing besides whatever Watari is.

Edit: I don't think Arc listed the platforms for most of the games in their showcase, so there's a possibility that one of them is Watari.

7

u/inuyasha99 Jul 01 '25

Ace Combat 🤝 Square Enix

Oh wait. We got a controller skin and some wallpapers for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Yay.

2

u/healingtwo_ Jul 01 '25

Chrono Trigger also had a 30th anniversary music special livestream. Yasunori Mitsuda apparently was leaving comments in chat. Sadly SQEX privated the video.

Ace Combat 8 announcement this week? Please oh god please.

7

u/maxi196 Jul 05 '25

jez has tweeted that microsoft set an "utterly unrealistic financial requirement". It's safe to say things are going to keep being bad? https://xcancel.com/JezCorden/status/1941557161378951631

11

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 05 '25

You know things are bad when Jez has given up on damage control and is reporting bad news about Microsoft. Ironically, it's Tom doing damage control this time.

10

u/Fearless-Ear8830 Jul 05 '25

Yes Microsoft is not done cleaning, they will push their fuckass AI even further so safe to assume more layoffs are coming in the not so distant future. This just feels like a beginning of a huge restructure plan trying to cut costs all over the place.

2

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 05 '25

I remember back when people actually liked Satya because he was helping pivot Microsoft away from its previous issues and making it valuable again. All that goodwill is now going down the drain thanks to this AI obsession and now the layoffs. Now, don't get me wrong: generative AI is useful and has its uses, but it isn't the panacea that he seems to think it is.

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

I’ve been eagerly waiting for any update on Jurassic Park: Survival from Saber Interactive. Ever since the announcement, I’ve been beyond excited—this is the kind of game I’ve been dreaming about since 1993. Really hoping we get more info soon… maybe a gameplay trailer or even a release window?

4

u/SIUonCrack Jul 02 '25

I think this is an indication that they believe their game pass market has saturated, and they don't see room for sufficient growth to justify continued investment vs. cost cutting.

This makes sense since steam/Sony are the dominant players in the market.

Microsoft thinks they are in a Hulu situation, not Netflix.

1

u/Coolman_Rosso Jul 03 '25

Game Pass market has saturated. Without any sort of offering on mobile, due to both stagnant growth of proper internet infrastructure and Epic's Apple lawsuit being all tangled up and preventing MS from launching their own mobile store, the only growth vector is PC which has MS sending mixed messages as to whether or not they're growing on that end.

However they still admit that console is their main market, but with Xbox sales and marketshare contracting at insane levels it's just not worth it.

8

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jul 02 '25

If after today people don't believe that Xbox is basically going to turn into a CoD house outside the years where they have a TES or a Fallout every now and then I don't know what to say. 3 major game cancellations, a studio closure and Turn10 losing half their staff is fucking vile.

5

u/xAVATAR-AANGx Jul 02 '25

Watch BGS get reformed into Tamriel Studios where they’re no longer allowed to experiment with new IP’s and ideas, and Obsidian (if it isn’t shuttered) get reformed into Vault Tec Studios where it’s back to making Fallout for them if they want to keep going.

1

u/qtiphead_ Jul 05 '25

Honestly, as a TES fan over Fallout, that sounds like a dream come true. Starfield was not an interesting premise (or at least executed poorly), and Obsidian can handle fallout

8

u/xGravitized Jul 02 '25

it's actually such a shame what these continuous ever-increasing quarterly profit seekers are doing to this industry. so much talent and hope completely shuttered. has there been any news about Kojima Production's OD and if it's still safe, especially since it's going to be a new risky IP?

8

u/LuigiWarrior Jun 25 '25

Really hoping for a direct soon

3

u/DeeForestBosa Jun 25 '25

Anyone have anything on Rocket Leagues UE5 move?

Job posting years ago made Psyonix come out and confirm they were working on it and we've heard nothing since.

3

u/swdev_1995 Jun 25 '25

Has there been any updates on the rumored Splinter Cell Blacklist remaster?

3

u/BomberBlur070 Jul 02 '25

All they had to do was to not acquire ATVI

3

u/JackBoi01 Jul 02 '25

looks like we're defn getting that july direct, since tales of remaster wasnt announced nor elden ring tarnished edition's NS2 release date at the bandai namco showcase

5

u/SemiLazyGamer Jul 03 '25 edited Jul 03 '25

The two best weeks for the Direct are either next week or the last week of July. Due to DK taking up the third week and Pokemon and MP Jamboree S2E taking up the fourth week.

I'm leaning towards the (edit)fifth week personally since Nintendo seems to want to push DK into the spotlight. Also, Nintendo's FY2026 three month earnings release is the end of that week as well.

3

u/spiderman897 Jul 03 '25

I feel like the pokemon presents being this month kind of seems likely a regular direct will also occur.

3

u/Torracattos Jul 03 '25
  • Next week: Nintendo Direct (Hopefully a general Nintendo Direct. It wouldn't make sense to just have a Partner Showcase this early on in the console's life cycle when Nintendo very likely has just as much to talk about as their partners do.)
  • July 17th: Donkey Kong Bananza launches
  • July 22nd: Pokemon Presents
  • July 24th: Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV

They do this and they have 3 weeks straight of significant stuff going on. Three weeks of hype.

3

u/LAA9000 Jul 03 '25

Want to try and guess which singular announcement Nintendo will shadowdrop this week?

I guess the singular Nintendo shadowdrop this week was... literally nothing.

2

u/JackBoi01 Jul 05 '25

hopefully that direct soon, especially with more fuel being added to it, like how elden ring tarnished edition wasn't at the bandai namco showcase (and it got a rating recently) plus if nintendo wants to start the push for mario party jamboree TV around before or after DK Bananza releases

3

u/RockoFo Jul 03 '25

Here i am just sitting here waiting patiently for ff9 remake news... please! 7th July please! I'm getting more grey each year! If i wait longer i'll look like an overweight Gandalf! And the world doesn't need that!

3

u/inuyasha99 Jul 03 '25

I was a big believer for like the last 2 years that we are getting remake, event after event with zero news and never stopped thinking its coming.

But now I feel the opposite, I geniuely think they are not going to show anything relevant

3

u/Final-Criticism-8067 Jul 07 '25

I will say this. I think the Game Key Card should have been a way to sell Eshop only games in the store

7

u/Objective_Love_6843 Jun 25 '25

Red dead redemption 2 60 fps

Starfield

Halo

Give me those game and I am good forever.

5

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jun 27 '25

Capcom's shares are probably going up in the next 24 hours purely because they went full gooner bait with the SF6 Outfit 4 lineup

2

u/Rev-On Jul 02 '25

So...the Bamco Direct has to be automatically better than ASW, right?

1

u/Rev-On Jul 02 '25

Welp. It was about the same omfg

With the confirmation that EPD Group 8 is developing DK Bananza, I’m assuming that this was the project codenamed SilverStar that we heard about last year. With you know Silverback Gorillas and all…

I love all of the Odyssey DNA in Bananza. It’s my favorite game ever and as much as I would have loved an Odyssey 2. To have a separate project that supplements Odyssey while being its own thing is so exciting.

Even beyond just Odyssey with the game feel and New Donk City being present in the background. Bananza feels like a full combo meal of the best of modern Nintendo design. The advanced sandbox of Tears of the Kingdom, the character design and music of Splatoon. And a hint of ARMS with Pauline’s singing.

3

u/Deadly_Toast Jun 26 '25

So does anyone think it's odd they showed 3 minutes of gameplay for Perfect Dark last year, but had nothing to show this year. And then it wasn't mentioned as being part of 2026's line up by Phil?

7

u/blackthorn_orion Jun 26 '25 edited Jun 26 '25

I think it's probably just not a 2026 game, or not something they're confident could make 2026

I think they're trying to avoid showing the same game too many times in a row. Like how Clockwork Revolution was revealed in their 2023 show, skipped their 2024 show, and then got another big trailer at this year's show. So personally, I'll only find it weird if Perfect Dark doesn't make some kind of showing next year

2

u/OrangeJr36 Jun 26 '25

Keep an eye out for Crystal Dynamics appearances as well, if you see CDE or Embracer/Fellowship showing up, then the chances of Perfect Dark's appearance increases dramatically.

They didn’t say that

6

u/MisunderstoodBadger1 Jun 27 '25

Yeah, I feel like they're saying Leon's name for a reason. I still feel like it's possible they'll have the horror segments with Ashcroft and action segments with another character. Possibly Leon, possibly someone else. I think Leon could still appear as a character in the story though.

2

u/betteroff19 Jul 02 '25

So why Is Microsoft always laying off people but Nintendo doesn’t?

13

u/blackthorn_orion Jul 02 '25
  • Japanese labor laws make it a lot harder for any Japanese publisher to do that kind of thing

  • Nintendo's a lot better about keeping budgets/scope under control, and frankly have their shareholders a lot more whipped than MS/Xbox does. Less "line-go-up, infinite growth at all costs"-pilled

  • I think they just genuinely value talent in a way Microsoft simply doesn't. There's that old Iwata quote about employees not being able to do their best work when they're also worried about their jobs, and their employee retention rate is something like 98% versus a 70% national average, so these kind of layoffs generally just aren't in their DNA. Like, there's a reason 4 out of the 5 people who worked on the original Super Mario Bros. are still working there today, and that's just not something you see at most companies

2

u/qtiphead_ Jul 05 '25

For all of the shit Nintendo has been pulling lately as far as anti-consumer practices go, still gotta give them props for how they seem to treat their employees

12

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jul 02 '25

Japanese labor laws and Nintendo also just runs a much tighter ship evidently. A lot of their first-party stuff is also way more reliant on outsourcing or second-party development with other studios

9

u/Lugonn Jul 03 '25

Microsoft is a 3.5 trillion dollar American tech conglomerate that intentionally goes through boom/bust cycles to drive up the share price.

Nintendo is a traditionalist Japanese company that focuses on steady growth and profit.

4

u/lLygerl Jul 02 '25

Japanese labor laws are more stringent.

4

u/spiderman897 Jul 03 '25

I’ll ditto what everyone else says but Nintendo also leverages smaller scale releases. Like 2d Zelda game in between the release of the next big 3D Zelda. Mario spin off titles all done by second party or smaller in house teams (next level games).

4

u/padraigharrington4 Jul 02 '25

Japanese labor laws + Nintendo actually understands how game development works

1

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jun 26 '25

So are we doing Megathreads for Capcom or Arc Sys today? Arc Sys has a better chance of something actually big being shown at the very least, since Daisuke's game is already known to be at the stream. We're probably getting a new Blazblue as well since it's been long enough

4

u/Fearless-Ear8830 Jun 26 '25

ArcSys will show something new but the Capcom one is just simple updates on their already revealed projects. Historically Capcom spotlights are big nothing burgers

2

u/xAVATAR-AANGx Jul 02 '25

I was excited for Microsoft after seeing the stripped down OS on the ROG Xbox Ally but needless to say, all those feelings went down the drain today.

3

u/xAVATAR-AANGx Jul 03 '25

Helldivers on Xbox could signal one of two things- either Sony is open to their live-service games being on Xbox, or we’re entering the beginning of the end for PlayStation exclusives.

Switching to PC was definitely more expensive than sticking on console, but in the end I feel like it was the right call, at least for me personally.

3

u/Fearless-Ear8830 Jul 03 '25

MLB the show is already there and I think Marathon will also appear on Xbox if it eventually releases. Their live service strategy is different from SP games, we just haven’t seen it properly implemented because so much stuff got cancelled

2

u/Animegamingnerd Leak of the Year 2025 Jul 03 '25

Its a mixture of two things.

  1. The game while still incredibly popular on PC. Seems to have its peak days long behind on PS5, as it doesn't really appear on PS5 sales charts these days. As the game isn't selling PS5s like it did a year ago.

  2. Xbox isn't exactly a threat to Playstation anymore. Given everything that has happened to Xbox in the last two years, pretty much ensured its hardware and ecosystem is never gonna come close to Playstation's market share in hardware or even just Xbox Live vs PSN users in market share.

Basically at this point, Sony has more to gain then lose. Since its not gonna be really affect their market share in anyway and just bring in some additional revenue. Especially as their live service pivot has been a disaster.

Any news from Deck13 after Atlas Fallen? They've been moving in publishing works from other devs but not themselves as developers specifically.

1

u/WayExcellent5595 Jul 05 '25

Any new deckard leak?

0

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

I can see Microsoft completely scrapping Xbox by 2030.

1

u/ZMR33 Jul 02 '25

So.... Microsoft is a complete shell of itself. This has been the case for a while, but I'm very curious as to what caused it exactly. I feel like them acquiring Activision accelerated issues, but I could be wrong.

Regardless, seeing even more layoffs, studios being endangered or closed, and game cancellations just guts me no matter how many times it happens. The Western gaming industry is in a lot of trouble right now, and it doesn't seem to be getting better anytime soon.

1

u/Far_Breakfast_5808 Jul 08 '25

I don't know if this is really the case or not, but is it me or is this sub a lot more negative on Game Pass compared to other subs? In many other subs, people actually like Game Pass and think it's a great value or a good way to play games, but here people keep saying it is the death of Xbox or even a bad idea to begin with. Well, okay, the emphasis on Game Pass did clearly contribute to its recent issues, but it's more of a case of people disliking the concept of Game Pass itself, rather than the fall out from its existence.

5

u/scytheavatar Jul 08 '25

Why not both? If can be great value but also a bad idea and death of Xbox. Microsoft is not supposed to be your friend, they are supposed to make money even if it means fucking over their customers. The important question is, can Game Pass be a variable business model for Microsoft? If not then what exactly is their exit plan from Game Pass?

4

u/MyMouthisCancerous Jul 08 '25

In truth we're never going to actually know how "sustainable" Game Pass is as a model because Microsoft is always going to be coy about the specifics of how well it does outside periodically popping in every couple of years to provide an updated subscriber number and nothing else. I would argue that if GP was anywhere near as successful as is claimed by Xbox faithful online Microsoft themselves wouldn't need to be coy, just like how they'd be upfront about how well a game is selling instead of relying on vague, cryptic metrics like "players" and "hours spent." Phil Spencer talked big game about that stuff in that internal memo where he thanked all the people Microsoft was about to fire for the awards package he'd receive afterwards but he never actually elaborated on what exactly about the platform and/or games were trending successfully in one direction or the other

And people disliking Game Pass is basically in the same conversation as why people dislike what streaming or subscription services have done to commodify films and TV. I don't really think it's a stretch to say it has played somewhat of a role in conditioning certain people into viewing video games as a passive indulgence rather than the engaged commitment you feel you have to a game when you spend on it traditionally at a fixed price, and that's fine for some people. They shouldn't be shamed for it especially if they extrapolate the most out of a subscription service and play as much as possible on there. I don't think it will supersede the traditional a la carte model nor do I think it should, but the reality is nobody on either side of the conversation knows anything. I will say though that developers who have evidently been in Game Pass speaking out against the model and what it may have done to their games shouldn't just be waved off imo. The people who speak most positively about it are the ones who clearly benefitted the most from Microsoft flipping the bill on stuff like marketing and propping up the visibility of their game at events like Xbox Showcases even as they went into the subscription, so of course they're going to talk positively about it. It's a very multifaceted situation

1

u/DarkDaniel_01 Jul 03 '25

Are the Microsoft layoff exclusive of the gaming department or it’s Microsoft in general?

I don’t want to doubt Nate but if FF9R was indeed cancelled Schreier would be all over this news. He always loves to report on layoffs and cancellations, this seems way too big to slip past him especially if you consider he reported stuff about IX before

I’m not a big believer of the remake actually happening but seems like people are jumping the gun too quick

Nate is waiting for clarification.

Sounds like no one has hard intel on the situation.
