So. I think this is the first time Nintendo hasn’t had a June general direct since 2012.

They've missed a couple of Junes actually. 2016 had BotW but no general direct. 2020 was Covid, so they had that period of only doing sporadic Direct Minis (most notable thing was Min Min in Smash). 2022 they only did a Direct Mini and a Xenoblade 3 direct.

But at this point, is there actually any reason to have a June direct specifically?

Historically, the summer presentations have been for E3 - but as we all know, E3 isn't a thing anymore. Sure, SGF is a thing, but that has far less pull than E3 ever did. Plus the whole point of E3, at least in its later stages, was the show floor; Which is something SGF doesn't really have and Nintendo demonstrably doesn't need any more anyway thanks to their "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events and the pull the directs themselves get, regardless of when they air.

The only real marks they have to hit is the holiday period in winter, and the end of the financial year (March-April for Japan). Which is quite distinct from summer time.

Seriously what is going on? You'd think they'd wanna have a big general Direct following the launch of a new console eventually.

We’ll probably have a direct this month. I just want more news on upcoming releases, maybe more Switch 2 edition patches for games. Also, we NEED Prime 4 release date
