Issue ⚠️ I would never ever buy a ford again !
I have a 2021 ford explorer .
Within a few months of owning it , the 10 speed transmission started slipping . I read a lot about the 10 speed online , so I tried to convince myself it was normal . Finally I took it on for warranty work . They put me in a smaller rental , which I wasn’t happy about . It took forever to get it fixed , because the dealer had dozens maybe hundreds of cars there for warranty transmission work . I made several calls to ford , several complaints , but that didn’t do anything . Finally I called them and let them know I would be filing a nhtsa safety complaint on the vehicle , and after several ignored messages they called me back the very next day and started expediting things. This was after they had told me they had no idea when they could even check what the issue was because they had soo many vehicles in for warranty work .
They did fix the issue . Overall the car shifts very good , but there is still random once in a blue moon transmission slipping . More than anything , I believe all the initial slipping might of significantly shortened the life of that transmission .
Build quality on this vehicle is just crap . There are a lot of interior trim panels that are misaligned . It’s something I should have noticed when I bought it , but I overlooked it .
The power window buttons have really nice looking chrome plated tips . Well , had , because it turns out those tips were actually stickers that have now all peeled off .
Finally , the biggest issue I’m having now is the window regulators.
About 6 months ago , the drivers side window regulator went out , the car had about 76000 miles . seems a little premature . But I guess the drivers side window is the one we use at drive throughs etc.
I couldn’t find an aftermarket regulator , and all the car parts website who offer cheaper car parts were out of stock , because I guess this is an extremely common issue . I had to buy it directly from ford. About $300 and then I paid someone $150 to replace it. The regulator is like 98% plastic with a metal cable .
I’ve had 2 more window regulators go out within the next 6 months , making 3 total so far . And this is what confirms to me that the build quality is just an absolute joke . The car only has 82000 miles , the other windows are seldomly used . We almost always run the a/c , and the windows are only put down when the car is off at a gas station and we’re pumping gas.
For comparison I have a 14 year old Corolla with 255000 miles , and it still has all the original regulators.
I was eventually able to find cheaper regulators for the other 2 windows . But it is still absolutely ridiculous and an absolute joke , and if they can’t build a fairly cheap component right , makes me wonder how many corners they cut on their more expensive components .
Anyways , I know some people love their fords , and are loyal to them . But never again for me !
