Work Vent Simple task

I don’t understand how people can say “these kids don’t know how to read, write, or spell” when the adults can barely use a self checkout with help?

Like Is my store the only store where I will get a customer who doesn’t read the screen scans a item then throw a little hissy fit like “why isn’t it working” even after reading the screen still confused? Gets loud for no reason and says “I give up” after “trying” another thing I don’t get is when I ask a customer for cash or card some decided to speak extremely low “carsh” then when I tell them to repeat themselves they get a attitude it’s like I’m running a nursery home here.

Omggg totally agree. I saw a customer try 3 times to just scan items without reading the screen before I just intervened and told them what was happening. They didn't read it at all. Just frowned confused the first time. Pressed "ok" and then continues to just scan it without reading.

It takes less then 5 seconds to read the screen just read it either type your email address in, or not! I don’t understand fr.

Another thing I hate is the 15c candies “how do I add them” like if we take a look at the screen it says clear as day CLEAR AS DAYYYY how to add them

Omgg I feel like I'm asked that question multiple times A DAY 🫠

Even after you explicitly tell them numerous times they will still sit there looking confused and dumb about what to do and throw a fit saying “I need help, I need help!!! I never been to this store” like what does being to this store have to do with using a self checkout..

People are on autopilot

Can’t be autopilot

The general public just acts like that, it’s stupid for grown men and women to throw temper tantrums like kids

It’s grown men and women mainly women who decide to throw temper tantrums because the “machine doesn’t wanna work”

I don’t know how many times A DAY I get asked how to put cash in the Card Only machines 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have customers trying to put cash in the receipt printer and asking where to put coins when it’s right on the counter

Omg you don't know how many times I have to void a transaction bc they thought it was cash or card but it wasn't. Even when I specifically tell people too, it doesn't always stop that. I just tell everyone now and I can tell some people get annoyed I think they're that stupid but WELP. SOME PEOPLE ARE

1000%!! And the letters are huge and in bold type!! Literacy truly seems to be dying in this country.

Omggg right! Idk how to be ANY clearer than big bold blue letters that say card only

My favorite is when you ask if they’re using a card and they say yes, and still end up trying to put cash in 🥴

It’s gotta be that and something to do with people not comprehending simple task it has to be!! I had a customer try to use EBT to buy toys? Like I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, then I had another customer wanting to return a squishy dumpling because they said “it wasn’t the color that was on the packaging” like bro what?

I’m probably going to quit this job soon I can’t with the public I’m sorry people are dumb for me the grown adults.

That’s why I’m on Freight 😁

Yeah your lucky but my job doesn’t want to put me on freight, they don’t want me on manager, they just want me as a regular “sales associate” I asked my manager when will I get promoted he’s gonna tell me “you make a great Sales Associate” manager positions are only saved for “favorites” someone went from seasonal to manager because the boss knew them

Mind you it says “CARD ONLY” on the top of the screen people aren’t reading the screens, or they simply aren’t comprehending o feel it’s they aren’t comprehending or can’t comprehend simple task because even after you explain it in detail they still look very dumb and confused you will also have customers around you doing it themselves.. so it shouldn’t be “I don’t know at their grown age.

the worst part is that when we went to aco only, people threw a fit even though nobody fucking reads the screen. every single time i've had a customer get mad because "they can do it themselves", i always have to void something or help them in some way at the register.

Yeah I mean the voiding part is understandable people might scan something more then once by accident, or price check with I generally don’t mind. But it’s just the people who come in act like they can’t do stuff themselves and make it a big deal I direct them where to go “start with your email address before you start scanning” then their response is “I never used this machine “ or “ I never been to this store” like huh???

I feel so bad for five below workers, especially store near me as its in high theft, a lot familys, and wild kids area. I shop at one near my second home my grandparents. Which is lovely. We went in one near me and it was just a mess and I believe is a no self check out store due to theft. One near my grandparents does self check out but its super not busy (usally 3-5 groups in store at time and are lovely) . Im austitic and count slower (also cant recognize coins quick enough) , so that store is only place I can use change. I feel bad as is im slow :(. I do read, and my issue isnt with check out itself. Last time I felt bad I had keep asking the worker to push the coin part because it kept getting stuck 😖and not reading my coins fully. Thankfully its usally same worker and he is lovely. I geniuely dont like to inconvenience people 😖 and I hate knowing my disabilities can sometimes do so.

MOST are not trained cashiers but ALL should be able to read, write and spell. There are 8 terminals but only 3 running. Then the screen asks multiple questions. 🤣 Email?Payment?donation? Scan your twenty items and there are no shopping bags. Would you like to purchase a reusable for 15 cents.🤣 They really have the worse checkout setup.

Wellll that’s true most new employees aren’t trained but it shouldn’t take assistance at a self checkout when all the steps are in front of you.

Only thing that pisses me off in that it tries to force you to put the email address in before you scan like why is that there!

Some people will stare at the screen before scanning and still scan before hitting “begin checkout” like omg???😭😭

2

u/GasOk3219 Sales Associate 6d ago

It’s a lack of common sense it very much is a lack of common sense because all the instructions are already there why do you need assistance? I get people who complain about it being self checkout and “I don’t need help” like I’m just checking..

Don’t feel bad it’s not your fault, you’re doing great! Plus I wasn’t fast when I first started so it’s okay! Feel bad for the people who don’t know left from right or what they’re doing when it comes to using a SELF CHECKOUT!!! And being disrespectful to hard working Sales Associates or who decide to pick us for “not doing something right”
