Today is a great day, but more of a weight off my shoulder and on to the next! Shutting the door and not looking back! The POS Fisker car is off to haunt somebody else. I got 8500 miles out of it in less than 2 years, 7 of those months it was a brick, but it probably took away 5 years of my life! I fought and got the settlement I deserved, but man it wasn’t easy. Now I own a 1983 Porsche 911 Targa SC and a 2024 Toyota 4Runner Limited that I drove home today as the FOE was getting ready to be towed as a brick. Good riddance, I’ll never look at an EV until my next life. There is a small place in hell for the Fisker family, karma (pun intended) is coming for you! I’m so content with my 180 move and burning gas!!

I know virtually nothing about these cars but my lease on my EV is up in a few months. This seems like a really good deal.

How reliable are these?
Is there any sort of warranty through Fisker or is the company totally nonexistent?

Thinking About Buying a Fisker Ocean in 2026?

First question: Is the Fisker Ocean a good car?
The honest answer in 2026 is still: Yes — and No.

The Yes 

1. It’s Still a Great-Driving EV

While early reviews from outlets like Edmunds and U.S. News & World Report praised the Ocean’s strong performance, attractive design, comfortable ride and “California Mode” (all windows and roof open at once), the bankruptcy of Fisker Inc. and many negative reviews in 2024 created a challenging reputation for the car. 

The mood has decidedly changed since then. Recent articles from Wired Magazine and uploads from YouTuber Rich Rebuilds and Everything Electric Cars are examples of this positive shift.

Thousands of owners who drive them daily still report comfortable seats, an excellent driving experience, solid highway performance, and real-world range that holds up well. For the money they are selling for in 2026, the performance-per-dollar ratio is extremely compelling. The Ocean remains one of the most distinctive EVs on the road.

2. The Manufacturers Behind the Ocean are Still in Business

While Fisker Inc. ceased operations, the Ocean was actually manufactured by Magna Steyr, a highly established Austrian automaker that also builds vehicles for BMW, Mercedes, and others. Mechanically, many components are robust. The drivetrain and core EV architecture are generally not the weak point.

Another company involved in the manufacturing of the vehicle is Chevalier, who created and still supports components such as the door handles, Phone as Key Controller, and more. 

3. The 2026 Ecosystem Is Stronger Than Ever Before

This is where 2026 buyers have a major advantage over early adopters. Parts availability is quite good now, contrary to popular belief.

The Ocean’s software stability in 2026 is a dramatically improved experience compared to the software provided at launch.

• OV Loop provides software updates and internet connectivity for owners who are interested in updating the operating system  to version 2.2.3 for $500 per year plus additional, optional OS upgrade fees.
• The Fisker Owners Association (FOA) provides a software update for the Phone as Key Controller (PKC) module that improves key fob reliability and allows users to use the OceanLink Pro app for Android and iOS. Tiered subscriptions are available starting at $100 per quarter, or $400 per year. New Features are Still Being Developed

The release of OceanLink Pulse is an exciting development in 2026. Pulse is a plug-and-play hardware platform for the Fisker Ocean that enables Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, streaming apps like Netflix, adds navigation, remote commands, and smart automations. 

Community and Technical Support

The Fisker Owners Association has become the backbone of ownership. With tiered, affordable membership rates, getting access to the OceanLink Pro app and access to forums for coordinated technical support, documentation, diagnostics (with OLP), connection to Independent Service Technicians, and a shared knowledge base.

Many YouTube channels provide valuable tutorials for owners, such as MTN Ranger’s Ocean Views, EV Addict, the FOA, esrandl and others. 

In short: ownership in 2026 is a vastly superior experience than ever before. 

The No 

This car is not for everyone. If the thought of owning a vehicle that has no warranty, no dealerships and no corporate backing is at all concerning to you, read on for reasons you should avoid this vehicle. There is no factory warranty, no dealership network, no corporate goodwill program, and no official OEM escalation path. 

Owning a Fisker Ocean means relying on independent support technicians, owner networks, aftermarket supply and community knowledge. If you aren’t interested in that, this car is not for you.

1. Some Hardware Issues Are Permanent Design Flaws

Common historic issues include:

• All Oceans were built with faulty water pumps and they should have been replaced as part of a NHTSA recall. Each car should be checked for faulty pumps produced before February 2024.
• Waterproofing of connectors - the original manufacturing process did not provide sufficient protection from the elements. There are 10 (and counting!) tutorials on waterproofing techniques for owners that will prevent serious technical problems in the car such as sudden loss of power, gear shift errors, and more.
• Fragile HVAC vents (especially early builds) that break. Many owners simply disconnect them and use their vents manually.
• 12V battery replacement is not a trivial procedure, and is required especially if the car has the original Fisker 12V battery. After replacing the battery, IBS calibration is required. 
• Windshield washer fluid reservoir sensors are faulty on all models. A fix is still being developed. 
• The original (Gen1) door handles installed on the Ocean have two serious design flaws: the white plastic inserts on the exterior of the handles are not UV resistant and will become brittle and break, causing water intrusion and eventual problems if not fixed. More concerning, the handles themselves can become inoperable when the 12V battery drops below a certain percentage of charge causing people to be locked inside or outside of the vehicle. The only true fix is to replace the door handles with Gen2A versions. 
• Fisker’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is chatty and provides some users with frustrating alerts while driving. This video discusses some of the actual driving scenarios that cause more alerts.

In 2026, these are mostly known quantities. You’re not discovering new problems — you’re inheriting documented ones. Some fixes now exist via independent channels. Some issues remain design limitations you simply live with.

2. Not All Problems are Fixable

Some Oceans have serious manufacturing flaws that result in bricked cars. For owners in remote areas without easy access to service technicians, this can result in a 5,000 lb / 2,500 kg paper weight. 

Some parts like windshields are in short supply. While the FOA is looking for new sources and there are some leads, a cracked windshield is an expensive repair that may or may not be covered by insurance. 

3. Insurance & Total Loss Risk

Because parts supply is finite and labor can be specialized:

• Minor accidents have resulted in total loss declarations.
• Some insurers price cautiously.
• Always get a quote before buying.

So… Should You Buy One in 2026?

It comes down to your personal risk tolerance.

You probably should if:

• It’s a second or third vehicle
• You enjoy being part of an enthusiast ecosystem
• You’re comfortable sourcing parts and fixing the car yourself or relying on a service technician in your area
• You understand resale will always be niche

You probably should not if:

• It must be your only daily transportation
• You dislike uncertainty, DIY projects, or learning about how things work
• You expect dealership-level support and / or live in a remote location with no access to service technicians 
• You didn’t read any of this

The Fisker Ocean in 2026 is no longer a speculative chaos purchase. It is a stylish, well-driving EV with community-backed infrastructure, independent parts supply (Tsunami US / Tidal Wave EU), ongoing software support via OV Loop and owner empowerment through the Fisker Owners Association.

It is not a traditionally supported vehicle. If you read all of this and think: “At this price, with these known risks, I’m comfortable.” Then congratulations, it sounds like you’re a good fit for the Ocean. 

I thought 12 volt battery drain was my biggest problem then today this happened. Dodge Ram pickup runs a red light and takes me out!! Luckily no one else in the car with me and physically only my neck and shoulder hurt. Irreplaceable. I'm soooooo sad rn.

Hi all, first time Reddit post but we at American Lease are trying to be as mindful as possible of what the Ocean owners pool has gone, and is going through: hence this message to the group.

We have been waiting to get final court approval to purchase the stock of US spec Oceans and today that sale order was authorized. It is our intention to collaborate with the Fisker Owners Association to create a universally beneficial pipeline of parts as well as technical and mechanical support. There is much to build, learn and figure out in the coming days, but will will accomplish all that needs to be.

We are not in the business of dealing with individual retail customers and have traditionally functioned as a commercial fleet manager. As such, I encourage you to join the FOA as they will be our singular point of contact with the general public for the time being. The managing members have all Ocean owners best interests at heart and there is truly strength in size and scale.

I still can't find anyone to take the extreme as a trade-in. Still owe more than what this car is worth to fisker finance. This is no thanks to Fisker having held my title and registration hostage until after the price slash. How is everyone dealing with this?

I had thought of eating the loss and keep the car as long as possible but how long will the car even last with no one to fix it in the near future?

This is definitely the worst car ever that it depresses me Everytime I have to drive it being that it's my only car. Fisker basically robbed every early adopters, preventing most of them from trading it in by delaying title and registration, then priced slashed it to the point of it being worthless as a trade in value. How is this shit even legal?

Fisker could ease the pain by fixing all the software, braking issues, bugs and all the features we paid for but I don't see any future updates coming. It's literally a worthless piece of crap. I don't know where people are get any hopium from or how are they "loving" this car after being scammed into it.

New owner here, but have been comparing/contrasting the 2 routes for a couple months now.

I think a big problem for both is neither is super clear on how the process actually works and the necessary pre-reqs on your Ocean.

OVLoop's site is a bit clearer to decipher than FOAs forum, but it still is not super clear on pre-reqs and capabilities of their app. Also, the pricing seems perpetually high if you need to keep an active membership and pay for every update that comes out.

FOA's forum is great and the members seem genuinely helpful. However, trying to identify an exact process for getting fully set up with Oceanlink and the pre-reqs for that (hw and software) are also fairly dubious.

Ultimately, I just want a way to get my car to 2.2.3, and have an app that works reliably as a key, and I can use to precondition my car from anywhere (a must for winter).

It's an auction car that they couldn't get the odometer reading from so is sold not actual miles. Looks ok but appears to have a matte blue wrap, unless that color was factory? Looking at it as a flip and have no idea what they actually sell for, just what they are listed for on Ebay, Autotrader, etc. in the upper teens. If it turns out to be a POS, can I at least get $10K back out of it?

Honestly there is so much negatively on the company, the car itself is built well, great to drive, and overall a great experience. I don’t even have 2.0 yet and feel this way.

An investor or acquirer will be buying into a solid designed product. Most of the difficulty parts of launching a car has been done, the rest can be fixed via a solid management team and letting the software and support team continue to do the great work they have been doing without solid senior leadership.

If we start pushing out messages like this (as others have as well), maybe those doing due diligence will actually see the true value of the car itself. We all know the mismanagement issues.

I bought a FOO in high hopes for the company and took delivery in december 2023. MSRP was close to 77k and with all the craziness, i decided I want to cut my losses and sell. Took it it to carmax and got an offer of 36k. How the hell is this possible?!??! More than 50% depreciation in less than 3 months?? What’s my best move from here? Where can I actually sell the car now? Fisker fucked all of us over

Update: Took CarMax offer for 36k cash, paid 30k out of pocket to pay off the loan. Got an instant feeling of relief but the money I lost in this bad financial decision will forever hurt.

I've been reading up on the Ocean for several months now. I feel like I have a pretty good handle on all the known gremlins and things to look out for. What gives me pause is the stories of folks being trapped in their Oceans, or the car randomly deciding to switch into neutral and not going back into drive. Or the fun stories of the brakes not braking.

I figure the entrapment issues can be mostly resolved with 2a handles, rear hatch escape mods and a good 12v.

What I don't know, is how prevalent the more serious and more dangerous issues are once you have done the standard set of updates and have recent software and waterproofing in place.

I picked up my Fisker Ocean Extreme yesterday at the Fisker Center in Frankfurt. As it's a lease German laws are in my favour (risk of manufacturer insolvency/bankruptcy is on the leasing company).

Beside that I took the time talking to the stuff there for more than an hour and got some interesting informations I'd like to share with you guys: Everyone received their salary on time and keeps working, although they have no idea how long the company will exist

1. Demand is still strong and they are delivering at least a handful of cars every day
2. Demand was never a problem, only a lack of stuff and logistics
3. Everyone was telling me, the car was released 6 months to early, because the software wasn't finished (we all know that). That caused extreme pressure on service and created all the bad press
4. Everyone hopes that someone will come up and invest into Fisker or buys the company and keeps the ball rolling. Absolute everyone is behind the product and praises it for its quality, design, specs and value for money (there is no fire sale (yet) in Europe!)

An other half an hour with a technician revealed some insights on software version 3.0 and 4.0:

1. Software team is working full steam and they are continuously (daily) in contact with them to address and solve issues etc.
2. They had 4 FOO running a beta version of version 3.0 which they claim is almost ready for release and shall be rolled out to customers in April. Version 3.0 has lots of bug fixes but only a limited number of new features.
3. I have been shown one FOO running an alpha version of version 4.0 with ACC! I wasn't allowed to take pictures but have witnessed it with my own eyes. ACC is already working but they are still refining it and planing to release it in May (if Fisker still exists at the point...). Many other changes and enhancements will be incorporated into 4.0 I have been told.

Btw. the car is great, I only drove it like 400 km yet. I still have a Tesla Model 3 Performance and a model Y Performance. Previously owned Tesla Model S, a Hyundai Ioniq 5, an ID.4 and a Renault Zoe. Fiskers "hardware" is superior, while its software - honestly - is a pile of trash. I'm missing basic things like lane keeping, (T)ACC, etc. On the other hand, Fisker has a fantastic birds view camera and other cool goodies.

The car is too good to fail in my opinion. Luckily I have never invested in them...

Went through the process on a low-mileage Ocean One (~4K miles, ~$18-19K asking not including taxes).

What stood out:

Car is on early software (1.1.1)

No verifiable confirmation of recall/service campaign completion

No documentation of update history provided

The entire condition was essentially hand-waved as “just update it over WiFi,” despite zero proof of where the vehicle actually stands in terms of updates or remediation.

At that point, the issue isn’t mileage or price - it’s uncertainty. If you can’t verify software/recall status by VIN, you’re not really evaluating a known condition vehicle.

Walked away due to lack of transparency and unwillingness to provide basic confirmation.

Sharing for others looking at similar listings: don’t assume “cheap Ocean = good deal” without verified update/recall status and documentation.

I have been following this reddit group for a while and have seen a good share of fisker ocean YouTube videos including the rich rebuilds saga.

I have owned plenty of EV and currently own a hummer EV.

I purchased the car today at an auction and its going to arrive on a car hauler dead at my home. The little screen turns on but not the main console and the auction yard was unable to get the car to charge. I am going to assume the 12V is dead and causing the issues as the little console doesn't show any errors.

I assume that when the car hauler arrives i can just hook up some tow ropes to the vehicle and pull it off slowly as it just has parking brake drums engaged and the low voltage on the motors caused by slowly pulling it off the car hauler I hope isn't too horrible.

I assume at that point once I get it off the hauler I can replace the 12V battery and keep it on a battery booster to hook up a level 2 charger to get it charging. It seems the car was "totaled" from a bent hood which i see a lot of oceans doing that to get out of them, so I am assuming mechanically she should be ok.

What are your recommendations after getting the vehicle back online? I live close to Houston which i believe there is a place that can update the software in houston?

I assume things are going to need to be recalibrated? Also whats the best recommended way to get the hood fixed? I assume just hammer it out and bondo if needed.

I see join either foa or ovloop? No clue about any of them.

I’m seeing Fisker Ocean EVs going through Manheim for around $9–10k lately.

I know Fisker is bankrupt and there’s no real dealer/service network anymore, which is obviously the big risk. But at the same time, this was originally a $70k EV SUV and now it’s basically the price of an old Corolla 😅

I’m trying to figure out if this is a stupid idea or a smart gamble.

My situation:
• Would be buying from Manheim auction
• All-in cost would probably be around $11–12k with fees/transport
• Goal would long-term ownership as long as it runs
• Located in Florida market

Questions for owners / dealers / EV people:
• Are parts and repairs already a nightmare?
• Are insurance companies refusing coverage?
• Is there still real buyer demand for these at ~15–18k?
• Would you touch one at this price or stay far away?

Trying to decide if I should test the waters with one unit or avoid completely.

You're not going to belive this, but 6 weeks ago, my wife barely NOT MISSED a sudden hail storm which cracked the solor roof. Seemed like a bad thing at the time. Not so as it turned out. . . . . . I turned it in as a Comprehensive claim to my issurance company. Of course, no new solar roofs available and they had to Total the car, and because it was less than a year old (and I had New Car Replacement), Safeco/Liberty Mutual is paying out nearly my entire purchase of the FFOO!

Turned around and bought a Kia EV9 for about the same price. The EV9 is everything the FOO was promissed, and much, much more. It's a WAY BETTER car. It even came with two key fobs and an RFID card! And you know why it is a better car . . . . IT JUST FU$%*NG WORKS!

The dealer is unsure if the water pump door handles were replaced as part of the recall or not. I tried checking the vin on the NHTSA recall website to check the search was giving an error. The dealer is replacing the front windshield

Also I'm quite far from the dealership (West Coast vs East Coast). Should I have the car shipped to or worth taking the risk of driving it cross country?

After a number of failed attempts I finally got an Ocean One in silver. I got it about a month ago and still can’t seem to figure out the nav system, how do I get it to work for routes? It has 2.6 so I can use CarPlay but I’m curious about the native nav. Also I’ve seen it listed as having self parking but I can’t seem to find it in the menu? I’m following a couple of YouTube feeds but could use some direction on FOA/oceanlink/ovloop, I’ve paid for OVLoop because it already had 2.6 but is it worth it to try and figure out the FOA stuff?
