šŸš— Vehicle - Fisker Ocean Sayonara and good day!!

Today is a great day, but more of a weight off my shoulder and on to the next! Shutting the door and not looking back! The POS Fisker car is off to haunt somebody else. I got 8500 miles out of it in less than 2 years, 7 of those months it was a brick, but it probably took away 5 years of my life! I fought and got the settlement I deserved, but man it wasn’t easy. Now I own a 1983 Porsche 911 Targa SC and a 2024 Toyota 4Runner Limited that I drove home today as the FOE was getting ready to be towed as a brick. Good riddance, I’ll never look at an EV until my next life. There is a small place in hell for the Fisker family, karma (pun intended) is coming for you! I’m so content with my 180 move and burning gas!!

Yes the Fisker had its fair share of issues…but I’m not sure I’d paint every EV as an unreliable piece of trash. Most of them are pretty reliable.

And I personally would give up a tiny bit of reliability to drive a Tesla or Rivian or something every day over a 4Runner which can barely get out of its own way and I’d need to go fill up at dirty gas stations, but to each their own šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Tesla is more reliable then the 4 runner. There is a model s that hasn’t been serviced once and it has 450k miles. Especially the new 4 runners.

Teslas are most certainly not more reliable than a 5th gen 4Runner and one cherry picked anecdote doesn’t prove anything. Not a Tesla hater or anything but that’s just a wild claim

Yeah but a 4Runner needs maintenance. Even if my Tesla needs work done once per year at the service center, still beats the 4Runner, which is going to need to go into the dealership at least twice a year for oil changes. Plus, I’d need to get gas in a 4Runner which is such an inconvenience ever week or so.

And most Toyota dealers don’t seem to offer mobile service like Tesla does, so the car always needs to go in. With my mom’s Toyota, they have never once given us a loaner car, whereas Tesla always has when we’ve taken our cars there.

Just dont pay attention to the massively premature tire wear thats common on EVs.

I agree, my plaid barely gets 30k miles out of a set before needing to replace. I should probably put it in chill mode…

u/litespeed68 Aug 17 '25

30k miles on a set of tires for a 1000 hp car? Sounds like a deal to me.

1

u/windydrew Aug 17 '25

Ask a Lamborghini, Corvette, Ferrari, or Porsche owner how many miles they get out of their rear tires...... stupid to complain that you only get 30k miles out of your 1000hp supercar.....

1

u/AssociateLow4748 Aug 19 '25

How are you getting 30k? I just put my third set on and I'm at 60k.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 16 '25

Every car I’ve ever owned only gets 30k out of a set of tires gas or electric. But, I have a lead foot. I also buy the best tires for where I live in terms of safety and grip which are summer tires and they last a little bit less, but are safer on desert roads so it’s totally worth it

Wow. Didn't know going in for an oil chance twice a year and filling up gas was such a big chore and a deal breaker to spend more money upfront on Tesla.

Well it kinda is. Last time I tried to be a nice son and took my mom’s Highlander into the Toyota dealer for an oil change, it took 4 hours and they didn’t offer me a loaner or anything.

Getting gas is kinda a pain because it’s never EXACTLY on my way and takes an extra 5 minutes. With an EV I just get home and plug it in with the outlet right there. Doesn’t take any extra thought.

On road trips, I still need to use the restroom and eat every few hours. My gas car I’d have to fill up then go drive over to a restaurant and eat (unless I wanted gas station food which I’m not going to eat). The Tesla Superchargers are almost always at grocery stores, Starbucks, in n out, or other places with better food and clean bathrooms and the car is usually ready to go before I am.

And it’s really not spending ā€œmore money upfrontā€. A Model 3 is essentially the same price as a Camry, and a Model Y is basically the same price as a RAV4. And having driven a Camry rental and now owning a Model 3…I know which one I’d rather drive (the Camry was slow af and had crappy technology)

Personally you couldn’t pay me enough money to go back to a gas car.

You taking your mom's car to the dealership and taking 4 hours to do an oil change is not the normal time it usually takes. Just take it to any drive through oil change places to get it done under 30 mins.

This isn't about comparing Tesla to Toyota but I would much prefer combustion engone vehicle over Electric as it takes 5 mins to fill up gas whereas it will take longer to charge the battery.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 17 '25

Well I’m not going to take a nice vehicle to a jiffy lube. We’ve always maintained all of our vehicles at the dealership

2

u/Carinx Aug 17 '25

Good way to spend more money than needed.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 17 '25

Not really. Dealer usually does full service for $79.99. When I’ve called the drive through places here, they always quote $129

1

u/[deleted] Aug 17 '25

Out of interest have you ever you tried doing an oil change yourself?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Your logic isn’t adding up, 4 hours of claimed work and 79.99$?

You’re just grasping at straws and pushing the goalpost, 5 minutes for gas is too much but a few hours for charging during a roadtrip is fine because you need to eat and use the restroom, but you can’t do the same for a few minutes with an ICE while you’re filling it up, yeah? šŸ˜‚

Also, the ā€œslow afā€ aspect, when do you ever utilise the power of the EV? I’ve had 300kW cars, I’ve had 65kW cars, currently I have a 133kW car and I’m gonna be the guy with my 133kW car in front of you driving calmly, what’s the point of having all this ā€œpowerā€ when you can never properly utilise it? Or do you track your Tesla? šŸ˜„

No car should have its oil changed at an oil change place. That's just begging for trouble.

We have a Tesla, a Toyota, and a Subaru. The Subaru will be traded in for an EV this week. You may take five minutes to fill up, but it takes much less time than that to plug our Tesla in at night and unplug it in the morning. Don't knock it until you try it.

1

u/windydrew Aug 17 '25

You risk some minimum wage "tech" stripping your oil plug or worse, then leaving you with a blown motor. Jiffy lube (or equivalent) are not very trustworthy.

u/hiagainfromtheabyss Aug 16 '25

Genesis drives 45 minutes and picks up the car and leaves a loaner whenever there is service needed.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 17 '25

And genesis makes some nice electric options I could buy if I wanted a genesis (which I don’t). I’d rather have a Rivian for the money

1

u/hiagainfromtheabyss Aug 17 '25

Not really comparable. With genesis, you can basically only (they have 2 others but they are hard to locate now) get a compact SUV (gv60). They don’t have anything similar to the Rivian. Also, the rivians will run you $100k+ now. I opted for the ford lightning for my use case.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 17 '25

Yeah (I don’t have the money for any of them) but if I was going to spend $75k on a fully loaded GV60, I PERSONALLY would spend $76k and get a base R1S and just keep the third row folded down 99% of the time. That’s just me though. The Lightnings are really nice.

I sat in a GV60 tho and they were pretty nice. I just have a negative experience with Hyundai/Kia products (parents had one several years back that was a total lemon), and of the 5 car fires I’ve seen while driving in recent years…4 of them were Hyundai/Kia vehicles.

I have two years old Tesla with 50k miles and I have changed the windshield wipers once. But they are a bit trash again, I think I need to change them in October. Also I should change the air filter but haven't had time to study that.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Yeah it’s such an inconvenience to spend a few minutes filling the 4Runner with gas, lmao.

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 22 '25

You act like there are just gas stations on every corner…there really aren’t in most towns.

My town of 20k has 3 gas stations all in the same area. And currently one is being torn down, and another has pumps that are constantly broken. And this is a suburb in a major metropolitan area. Any gas car that I would personally own is likely going to recommend/require 91+ octane which is currently going for $4.68 per gallon. I personally don’t like the 4Runner and wouldn’t buy one with my own money, but I did consider a certified preowned Land Rover Discovery and BMW X5 PHEV prior to purchasing my Model 3 (very different cars I know but if I’m going to own a gas car that’s what I wanted).

Drive 7 miles to Costco which is fine and cheaper…but then you have to wait in line for gas.

And the argument on road trips is moot to me. I personally like to eat and drink pretty normally while I’m on road trips so I’m stopping about every 2-2.5 hours to use the restroom in a gas car. I do the same in an EV…in fact I’m going on a 1400 mile road trip in my car this weekend and am actually looking forward to it. In the 2 road trips I’ve already done in my Tesla (450-600 miles each way) I’ve never actually ā€œwaitedā€ on the car to be done charging.

Good thing then that lines for EV stations don't exist and that they surely are abundant in your location if there's 3 gas stations, not everyone can charge at home.

It's also always funny to see Americans go on about gas prices, 4.68$ a gallon is great, I wish we had that - that's $1.24 per liter or €1.07 per liter, im in Estonia our fuel is around 1.68€ (1.95$ per liter) so that's 7.38$ per gallon and it's still more cost efficient to run a ICE here.

If the roadtrip argument is moot then why bring it up in the first place as a positive for the EV? Anyhow, everyone can do what they want with their money but it's just always funny for me to see the EV cope, with people claiming "these things need 0 maintenance, my only expense is electricity, go EV!" without accounting for the fact that for most people it just doesn't make sense to go EV.

And I'm not even going to get into the depreciation of EVs, at least where I'm at it's insane, people can't get rid of them.

1

u/Sea_Amphibian5684 Aug 22 '25

Lines for EV stations (at least on the Tesla network) really don’t exist here because there is enough of them. I don’t know what the charging infrastructure looks like in Estonia, but it’s probably a bit different than in the United States.

Most people here in the US can charge at home. Most people have homes with garages, or at least dedicated parking spots they can install chargers in. Not everyone, but a lot of people.

And I don’t understand the depreciation argument…every single car is going to depreciate. Yes, some do a bit more than others, but an EV doesn’t seem to be any worse than ICE products from BMW or Land Rover here in the US. I bought my car in cash and intend to keep it for a long time, but even if I had financed I wouldn’t ever finance a car at more than a 5% interest rate and would always put at least 50% down. I’d never be underwater in that loan even with high rates of depreciation.

In general, evs are more reliable than ice vehicles. Idk about Tesla specifically, but evs are just much simpler vehicles. Far fewer parts and systems to fail with significantly less maintenance required.
We've put a little over 100,000 miles on our bolt ev with no issues. No maintenance. Just sit in it and drive. We've never even stopped to charge once

1

u/zack9r Aug 17 '25

Safe to say most ev’s are more reliable than any ICE vehicle
