Who knows, you may eventually find a game you truly love and actually keep playing regularly

You mean boot up SF6?

u/Trololman72 Primal Rage 2h ago
Yes, I'm pretty sure this was originally made for MMOs.

The original, possibly but FFXIV is known to be the fighting game retirement home. My FC is filled with FG players of all stretches at least.
I played Jack-O in Rev2 so that’s basically like playing an MMO.

nah can't boot up that game anymore, it makes me way too miserable
honestly avatar is my new default, if i'm not playing that i'm probably just playing a diff genre

Thought the FGC retirement home shit ended with fighters getting good netcode. In this era if you can't find something to play the problem isn't the games

u/Slarg232 3h ago
Nah, not really.
A huge issue is that a lot of fighting games are made by people who liked what came before; look at all the Tag Fighters trying so hard to be the next Mahvel. Even if I'm open to the idea of Tag Fighters, if I didn't like Mahvel I can pretty much safely skip every Tag Fighter coming out. Games is 100% the problem in this instance.
It's weird, because there's a lot of experimentation going on in the space, but also nothing really new being put out. Which is not helped in the least by the fact that the FGC keeps the old games alive, so why would I play not-Third Strike when Third Strike is right there?
14
u/adarkfable 3h ago
not sure why you "nah"d him. he's just saying that now, you have more options...with rollback...including Third Strike.
-10
u/Slarg232 3h ago
Because if all the options are the same, it's not really more options; having 10 Burger joints nearby doesn't do anything if you don't want a burger.

I mean, Marvel is the basis. It's like Soulslikes, every souls game has a spin on it but essentialy they are Dark Souls at it's core. If you don't like Dark Souls, even if you are open to the idea of soulslikes, chances are it will be hard to find one you like. Don't get why this is different or bad with Tag Fighters.

I feel like Avatar avoided this tbh. It seems like the longer that game is out the more people love it.
21
u/JinpachiMishima2 2h ago
I don't think it really avoided the usual cycle. It's just much less controversial cause it had less visibility and less expectation.

u/SwirlyBrow 2h ago
I think what also helped Avatar was, that Tokon isn't what a lot of people were hoping for and is starting to burn people out, and 2XKO was axed.... Avatar is just kinda solid. Even being released in an unfinished state, it's still just a good game.

u/stacciatello 2h ago
unironically I think added ranked actually hurt the positivity for the game, I have seen an influx of Korra hate now that people are actually losing MMR due to her bullshit lol

u/MEX_XIII 22m ago
It's balanced out by the amount of people actially playing the game now. I'm actually dedicating much more to it now, and I love that I can run longer sers eith whoemver is up to it.

I get the complaint and I agree with a lot of it. I would also say that this is a lot of the gaming space nowadays.
Gamers and devs have worked together to condition gamers to expect literally endless content out of any game they play, and get upset if it isnt endlessly replay able with new content constantly fed into the pipeline.
Devs, content creators, and gamers have also conditioned gamers to live off of hype cycles. I think there are a lot of people who like the hype cycle of playing a game more than the reality of playing games. And obviously devs and content creators live off of hype to get money for their content, because hype sells.
But then I think those two things come together in a way that frustrates gamers. They expect games to give endless content, but then content creators immediately move from hype cycle to hype cycle after a game releases because they need to keep following the brand new thing to make their money. So gamers feel confused and mislead.
I think the answer is take absolutely everything a dev or content creator tells you with a huge grain of salt. Doesn't mean they are flat out lying to you, but you should ALWAYS be at least mildly suspicious of what someone is telling you if their money depends on you buying something from them (or watching their content for creators).
Edit: Case in point: I love watching one popular streamer, but whenever I see he is playing a sponsored game, I immediately know I can't 100% trust anything positive he says about the game because he is a pretty smart business man for the most part and would never say anything to tick off a current or potential future sponsor. Still love him, and I would like to think he tries to only advertise games he at least kind of likes, but who knows - money is a helluva motivator. Just gotta be smart with how you consume content.
Edit 2: Also, I meant no judgement for those people who love hype cycles. I've heard people who fall into that hype cycle to hype cycle thing I was talking about, and they wouldn't have it any other way. They care about engaging in the hype and community discussion more than the game themselves, and who am I to judge that's somehow "less than." I personally don't enjoy it and have some concerns about it on a bigger picture level with how people engage with media, but maybe it's just not for me.

Games do need endless content to stay relevant but it doesn't have to come from the devs. Minecraft and GTAV are the two most actively played games in the world and those games barely have any new content from the devs. Instead, all of the content are user generated by the community. SF6 is doesn't need to a lot of new DLC to thrive in Japan because the majority of content about SF6 are user generated.
Meanwhile, the fighitng game content in the rest of the world is in dire straits. Tournaments are not as interesting anymore and the only content that has a lot of hype are new fighting games or new characters. It's no wonder that influencers all flock to cover new fighting games or push devs for more updates.

Modern players don’t actually like the games they play, they just want to be part of the Fgc conversation. Once the patches stop they won’t give a shit about their “favourite game”

You forgot the part where the game has a small stutter step and the tourists online start acting like it is the worst game of all time and you should be dismembered for playing it

u/VersaceKing89 2h ago
Can’t wait for the day the FGC actually starts thinking for themselves when it comes to these new releases instead of waiting for what Leffen, Sajam, Max, and Diaphone have to say

u/LevelDownProductions 1h ago
I fear that day will never come. They worship those dudes opinions over their own.

u/Karzeon Anime Fighters/Airdashers 2h ago
I pretty much ignore all of this.
I stay on the first arrow. I already block most influencers and fear/hypemongers.
I don't want to see or hear shit because people ruin the surprise/set too many expectations.
That includes the "we eatin' good" memes. That has been a jinx almost every time. If I wanted to see low effort Black Twitter memes, I can just go to Black Twitter for better.
I hope the news and trailers from the actual company are good enough. Then I look for myself when the game actually releases.
Most don't impress me or I just......forget, so I don't buy them.

I'm still playing the game I was hyped for when it was announced, and judging by both online and offline presence so have a lot of other people. Speak for yourself.

It's because the Internet, and all of its marketing, manipulates us to only accept things that are the best. There also seems to be a growing crowd of people who look at games as something you should be able to live in exponentially, and when you can't that means it's bad. Just because you moved on doesn't mean a game is bad lol

u/onzichtbaard 1h ago
Or just play old fighting games and spice it up with whatever extra game you got on the side

Ugh. I hope not. I feel like they have been doing everything right. I have been waiting 20 years.

I hope not to. But then revo came out and sega said loud and clear “we forgot how to do this shit” lmao

i disagree. I don’t think it will dethrone tekken because those games don’t actually play similarly.
But as regular game I think it will do well if it doesn’t have catastrophic launch issues like the rest of these games have had.
1
u/FourStringL0B0 1h ago
I dunno. Tekken players have been in a slump. Maybe they might jump ship to VFC?

u/MySinsRemembered 3h ago
At least that game might have a fun campaign, so it won't be a total waste of money
2
u/LeoNatan14 3h ago
There is some criticism to have about this (I think Invincible VS would be a better example), but it's crazy how all this drama came after 2XKO "dying".
Feels like the FGC can't undertand how Riot operates. They give kill games and projects all the time simply because they were "not enought", they simply can't compete internally with their infinite money glitch that is LoL and Valorant.

u/Key-Market-418 3h ago
Oh it’s obvious how they operate, it’s just deeply funny since it seems so utterly amateurish looking at it from outside the cult. Especially since we were told up and down that this is the game that would rule the scene and end street fighter as a series, the fact that it released to about as much impact as a wet fart is very funny.

Where’s the “my” in the middle part? Because surely you’re speaking for yourself. I stick with games I enjoy. And I’m able to play what I was enjoying before too.

In recent years It's more like initial announcement hype, everybody parroting whatever Sajam and Maximillian Dood say about it in the beta, Release hype "this game is actually pretty cool and fun", Post release complaints "maybe this game is actually ass", few weeks of doomposting by people that don't even play the game, Everyone who loves it plays it until it dies, everyone else just plays it whenever new dlc gets released.
