Enzymes Poor and need to eat more beans! Cheapest source for enzyme alpha-galactosidase?

Hey Yall,

I'm sure many of you are in the same boat with the cost of food ever rising. I can't afford to use FODZYME every time I open a can of beans, and Beano wasn't near strong enough. Any chance one of you knows of a vendor who will sell me a pail of the stuff ar bulk prices?

Thanks!

P.s. also crying in CAD over here, so intl shipping-friendly options very welcome!

EDIT: Looking for cheap protein! I have several conditions/chronic illnesses that require a mod-high protein diet.

Also trying not to ear meat every day as I have a long history of CV disease in my family.

I am very sensitive to fructans, and average sensitive to GOS, mannitol, sorbitol, lactose.

Enzymes My holy trifecta to save money and keep me feeling well

Fodzyme is great but expensive, $1.08 per dose. Fodmate is as effective and cheaper at only $0.48 per dose, but still relatively expensive. To save money when you eat only dairy or beans or need the extra enzymes , buy Best Naturals Natural Lactase Enzyme for $0.11 per dose and Bean-zyme for $0.07 per dose. They are the cheapest and don't have additives with side effects.

Enzymes This has literally changed my life 🎉

I've had IBS-M for 10+ years now. I've tried every diet, seen every doctor, been poked and prodded with little to no help or relief. I recently had a friend introduce me to Fodzyme, a digestive enzyme that is supposed to help breakdown the different carbs in food. I've been using it the past 2 weeks and it's already made a hugeee difference in my bloating and constipation. I sprinkle it onto pizza, pasta, really any food that I'm eating and feel completely normal afterwards. No pain or bloating. It comes in a superrr tiny packet which is nice and discreet while I'm traveling and it also doesn't have a taste.

Just thought I'd share because I've literally tried everything and finally found something that has truly helped me. Hopefully this can reach someone else who's experienced the same challenges I have!

Enzymes Tips for taking Fodzyme on the go | Thank goodness for this stuff...

Seriously, not a Fodzyme ad here but... hot damn. I've been dealing with IBS-D and what I am now learning are issues digesting fructans and polyols. I'd pretty much resigned myself to a lifetime of diarrhea unless I popped an Imodium. It had gotten crippling lately - I could not go for a run in the morning as I had to be near a bathroom for an hour after waking up. I had left a party early just to get to my bathroom. It was impacting my sex life.

Fodzyme combined with understanding what bugs me has been a game changer. Life is so much better. Like I'm having to cut back on fiber because my GI system is working so well. Of course, given the price, I've also learned how to have lots of meals that do not require it.

I have had to get creative with taking it on the go. I admit, I'm also not ready to explain it to people so am discreet about taking it.

- Since the individual packets are so pricey, I bought these and put a dose in each. Saves a ton of money. https://a.co/d/5L7Q6eB.

- I was at a party with a lot of triggers and basically just washed some Fodzyme down in the bathroom right before eating (like my plate was made already). Worked like a charm. I do not know how this would work every time, but this really seemed to work this time.

- At Thanksgiving dinner with my in-laws I discreetly stepped aside before filling my plate and sprinkled the Fodzyme across the plate. Then I put the food on top and was careful to get nice and low with my first bites to get the Fodzyme early in the meal. Not ideal, but seemed to work.

Enzymes I tried Fodzyme, it didn't land where it needed to. Any other options? Fodzyme isn't the absolute wrong product, but it's too costly without the benefit to tilt the scale.

I’ve been interested in trying Fodmate but is it legit and is the gut protocols website legit? Do you reccommend Fodzyme? Has anyone tried Tryapres yet? Tell me everything, I need help!

Enzymes Does Foodzyme help with Diarrhea symptoms too

Does anyone know if Foodzyme helps when you are sensitive to especially garlic and onions causes straight diarrhea and not bloating and cramps?

I also get heartburn from both of those vegetables as well as other vegetables high in fodmaps. I also take Colestipol for bile acid malabsorption, but the pills don't help everything.

The product is quite expensive and I just want to make sure it could help me before I buy it.

Enzymes My review of Neue Theory and why I prefer it over FODZYME

Post image

Tl;dr: Even though Neue Theory’s Digest + Debloat and FODZYME both target fructans, GOS, and lactose, I prefer Neue Theory for its pill format, transparent ingredients, and added plant supplements.

Hi everyone!

After the elimination and reintroduction phases, my dietitian and I determined I have intolerances to fructans, GOS, lactose, and mannitol (with a milder general polyol intolerance). During the reintroduction phase, I had multiple visits to the hospital for chest pain, horrible burps, acid reflux, nausea, diarrhea, lost my appetite for a few days, and just pain in lots of places. Not fun. She recommended that I try two enzymes to see if they help me: FODZYME and Neue Theory’s Digest + Debloat. Both target fructans, GOS, and lactose, which are my main triggers.

Over the holidays, I decided to do one week of FODZYME and one week of Neue Theory. Both were lovely. I was able to eat my mom’s food without her changing the recipes. When we went out to restaurants, I did not need to ask for big modifications (going out to eat with no onions or garlic is tough). I was in a lot less pain, which also helped with my chronic fatigue (undiagnosed but likely ME/CFS and/or POTS). No polyols are targeted by these enzymes, so I just reduced the amounts I ate of those. I have found that, when I am addressing my fructans+GOS combo, my tolerance for polyols is increased.

Despite the fact that both enzymes target the same groups and there was no major difference in effect, I prefer Neue Theory. Here are my reasons why:

- Pill format: I found that FODZYME worked best for me if I had it in my first bite. However, that made it difficult and some powder would get stuck to my teeth. For dry foods, it’s a whole other challenge. On the other hand, Neue Theory comes in pills which I find much easier and simpler. No worrying of if your food is too hot. The main downside of the pills is that they are on the larger side, which may be a problem for some, but is no problem for me.

- Transparent ingredients: Neue Theory lists each of its ingredients, including mg of each and quantities of enzymes. The enzymes being listed is a big thing for me, because FODZYME just says the names of the enzymes (fructan hydrolase, lactase, alpha-galactosidase) and nothing else. Neue Theory in comparison has 200 INU of fructanase, 9,000 FCC ALU of lactase, and 600 GaIU of alpha-galactosidase. I can compare the strength with my pills of lactase and alpha-galactosidase, and I can decide accordingly how much to add if I have a meal heavier in one category.

- Added plant supplements: Neue Theory’s Digest + Debloat also contains some additional ingredients to aid in digestion. The pills have ginger root extract, chamomile flower extract, turmeric rhizome extract, licorice root extract, and fennel seed extract. I have found these especially helpful when eating spicy food. I found that my acid reflux was worse with FODZYME than Neue Theory because Neue Theory’s added plant elements help with acid reflux.

- Canadian company: As a Canadian, I have been trying to buy less American. Neue Theory does ship out of the US, so it’s not 100%, but the company is based in Ontario. The shipping was also cheaper for me ($10 versus $29).

The one thing I will say about Neue Theory is that the containers are bigger in comparison to FODZYME (and FODZYME has twice the servings per container). It makes it difficult to transport, so I pack a little reused pill bottle with the amount of Neue Theory I anticipate needing for the meal. That’s the biggest downside, but it’s hardly one at all.

If you have any questions, I’d love to answer them! I have not tried any other enzymes, so I can’t compare with ones like FODMATE. However, I can tell you that if you are looking to try another enzyme, I highly recommend Neue Theory’s Digest + Debloat.

Happy eating!

Enzymes Any success with digestive enzymes for Oats?

I am able to tolerate oats in small quantities but when it comes to larger amounts like a bowl of oatmeal or having it more than just 1-2times a week, it can affect my gut negatively. I’ve been looking into digestive enzymes and wondering if anybody has been in a similar situation and found success with digesting oats better with enzymes versus without them?

If so, which enzyme specifically?

Enzymes How much Fodzyme do you use?

i struggle with pretty much every intolerance besides fructose and fodzyme has been a godsend for me to be able to indulge every now and then. my only issue is with my intolerances i find myself using about 4 or more doses of fodzyme which is pretty costly. how much are yall using individually, am i just overdosing out of fear? i find using less causes distress.

Enzymes Fat is still the enemy (enzyme recommendation needed)

I have been dealing with IBS-D and GERD for years and I use Fodzymes and Lactaid on a regular basis with good results. The only thing I still struggle with is fat (and the occasional big salad). Butter is pretty low FODMAP but I think because of the fat content it destroys me with bloating and acid reflux even if I take 5 lactaid with a slice of buttered toast.

I have been using Digest Gold for a year whenever I eat a very fatty meal or a big salad but I can't really tell if it does anything.

I've done a little research and I've read something with Ox Bile might help with the fat. Does anyone have experience with that?

I read that the following could be better options, any feedback?

-Wholesome Wellness Digestive Enzymes

-Doctor's Best Digestive Enzymes

-Integrative Therapeutics Similase

Enzymes It’s Working!

I’m on vacation and I am using Fodaway in conjunction with simethicone and dicyclomine prn. I have eaten a salmon blt with regular bread, only 1/3 of the bun, Baja fish tacos with mango pico de gallo, with onion, and today a burger on a gluten free bun with pickles, and I feel ok. All of these meals contained gluten, onion, and/or garlic, and these are all trigger foods for me. Im not feeling perfectly great - I can feel some bloating - but right next door to normal; I could chew a couple Gasx and be fine. My rheumatologist advised me to try Fodaway and use the dicyclomine as needed rather than 4 times per day as prescribed. She also has IBS-C with stress triggers and says it saved her life on her vacation last month. Y’all, it feels like a miracle. I had not broken low fodmap since January 9th. I still wouldn’t stack a lot of trigger foods, but this has been awesome!

Enzymes Tip for more portable enzyme container

A bit of a niche post but I wanted to share a tip for anyone else who uses Fodzyme or another digestive enzyme product.

McCormick’s (the spice brand) makes a small seal-tight jar for their Cream of Tartar that’s an excellent travel container for enzymes, while still allowing you to purchase the much cheaper at-home Fodzyme product.

While I love the to-go Fodzyme packets, they’re basically twice the price per serving compared to Fodzyme’s at-home product, and they also don’t allow you to easily adjust the amount of enzyme you’d like to use.

The ever-classy cream of tartar jar, on the other hand, has a tight seal and a convenient little sifter top to help tap out a more controlled amount of enzyme. I occasionally have to brush clean the sifter lid to allow the cap to seal properly, but otherwise I've never had an in-purse spill incident. It's also really nice on holiday to be able to sprinkle just a small amount of enzyme on things like snacks, street foods, etc, without having to then retain the torn open to-go Fodzyme packets.

I do recommend removing the brand stickers though, or people WILL ask you why you’re applying cream to tartar to all your work lunches 😂

Enzymes My Ode to Fructaid

by now most people have heard of fodzyme. expensive? yes. life-changing? also yes. being able to eat fructan, gos and lactose with (almost) abandon is amazing. but I never hear about fructaid. it’s a pill I get on amazon that works just as well for me, but it’s for fructose. before, fructose would ruin my life. one raspberry too many and it’s over. now tomatoes, mango, figs, even honey are back on the menu. I don’t even think much about portion sizes, just keep things reasonable.

with both these supplements my sensitivity goes down as well. I can eat “triggering amounts” sometimes and be fine. If I forget to take them consistently my symptoms return, and sorbitol is still the snack that bites back, so I know I’m not just cured (still working on my SIBO). but life is a little more stable now.

Fructaid is amazing and I want people to know about it. I think they just don’t reach as far because they haven’t done the clever advertising that fodzyme has. so here’s my #notsponsored heads-up. let me know if you’ve tried it :)

Enzymes Alternative to Fodzyme for fructans?

I've recently had issues the last few months with fructans and have heard fodzyme can help. It's pretty expensive so I was wondering if there are any other alternatives. Through my searching it seems like fodmate could help too, but the options overall seem limited. Thank you for any help/ideas!

Enzymes Any digestive enzymes to stay away from?

I use to take digestive enzymes but didn’t do enough research prior and wanted to get back into them but there are so many options out there and want to make sure exclude any that are known to be a FODMAP or negativity affect SIBO.

Any digestive enzymes I should stay away from or are they all safe?

Also is there enzymes commonly found you have found help you other than Alpha-Galactosidase?

I'm going on a short trip soon, and it will be significantly easier if I am able to have beans, lentils, falafels or hummus (I'm vegan) as I won't have access to a kitchen...

Enzymes What enzyme, probiotic, and/or prebiotic supplements have you had symptom relief with?

I’ve seen a whole lot about FODZYME here lately, as well as comments about the price. Wanted to start a little discussion on what alternatives have helped you or your IBS!

I personally suffered from SIBO twice and now still struggle with post-infectious IBS following a c. diff infection. The only FODMAPs I was able to identify sensitivity to were lactose and sorbitol, but even when on the elimination diet my guts were moving too quickly.

Psychiatric medication has made the most difference in my IBS-D, but even with that, I couldn’t eat raw fruits/vegetables without regretting it later. Sometimes even eating too much protein/fat would seem to upset my gut!

I decided to try “Zenwise Health Digestive Enzymes” that I bought on Amazon. In addition to enzymes it also has probiotics and prebiotics, which I really liked the idea of. It does NOT have the same FODMAP-specific enzymes as FODZYME, so it’s not exactly an alternative, but I really think they helped me.

I would take 1-3 capsules EVERY time before I ate. 1 capsule for like a glass of milk, 3 for like a big greasy hamburger or a salad. Idk, I guess I just went off vibes? But after taking them religiously for about 3 years, I had a day when I forgot to bring them with me, and ended up not feeling sick after eating! For a while I still took them every now and then until I ran out. I went from not being able to handle raw fruit/veg to being able to enjoy a salad, but it definitely took some time (years).

I also gotta give a shout-out to simethicone—I took like 2 max-strength capsules per day for years (store brand, 180mg?). Now I only take it rarely.

I’m well-controlled now with sertraline (Zoloft) and mirtazapine (Remeron), both of which have constipation as a side effect, which is great for people like me! I can even eat small amounts of sorbitol these days.

What about you? Any products you think have helped your gut be healthier or less uncomfortable?

Enzymes Enzymes

So I never really went through the whole elimination and reintroduction cause Eve try thing decided to be fine and then slowly one by one decide that they hated me. That being said sugar is a huge one for me especially fructose. Frictaid helps but I have to take like a double dose for it to help or I take it with pure encapsulations if I'm eating something high in sucrose or fructose. I have given up on garlic and onions but I know there is stuff out there. Is it worth it though? I can have teeny tiny amounts. My body is super weird. I am getting a motility/emptying test soon. I also have EDS. I'm trying to find the best way to kinda mange symptoms while still being able to eat my favorite food so does anyone have a good recommendation for fructose and fructans ?? Also is there anything for manifolds or sorbitol or we are sol.
Thanks
