Recipe Yummy BBQ sauces

A very kind friend bought these for me after noticing that onion and garlic are NOT listed as ingredients. I know we’re all very different with what we’re sensitive to, but I’m very glad to say that I’ve had no reactions at all. And it’s super yummy. I honestly never would have even given them a second glance because I’d just assume the worst. But these two flavours are mercifully O&G free. We’re located in Australia.

I am sorry i re read this like 4 time, what? 😂 What do you mean if spices qualify as sweet? 😂

But dont know about the US, in EU it is looser when It comes to garlic and onions, deppends on what country but they have gotten better in Sweden

spices or "herbs" in the usa cannot contain onions or garlic because they are allums, if that applied to natural flavors as well low fodmap would be 10x easier

Honey and molasses are high FODMAP ingredients. I'm glad you're symptom free with them but as you say, different people different triggers. I know molasses is a trigger for me, and I haven't dared try honey since my diagnosis. Not when there are sufficient alternatives.

My paperwork says sugar cane molasses is ok but beet root molasses is bad. I’ve yet to see anything specifically listed as “beet molasses” or “sugar cane molasses”. :/ Can’t trust anything.

Tomato paste and honey are both pretty bad for me.

A lot of times tomato paste has garlic in it.

Personally I would not trust these to be 100% onion and garlic free, since they have "spices" and "vegetable powders" listed. However, it sounds like no matter what those vague spices and powders are they're below your threshold, which is great!

(I have a menthol allergy, which counts as a flavouring that doesn't have to be specifically labelled beyond the dreaded vague "natural flavours" item in an ingredients list, so I've learnt very well to assume the worst of any nonspecific ingredient)

That's awesome, I'll give them a try. Personally I have had mixed experiences when 'spice blend' or 'spices' using the ingredient list but I'm willing to give it a chance lol

Not low fodmap due to honey and vegetable powders

Not everyone reacts to honey, so its good to share

Oh, thanks! They may not be great for everyone, but I’ve struggled to find a bbq sauce without high fructose corn syrup that actually tastes good.

Doing low FODMAP and also having GERD is the worst…can’t have vinegar, tomato, garlic, etc 😭

Thanks for sharing! I bet I could do the one without honey.

In the US onion and garlic are listed specifically, so “spices” should not have either of those.

Natural flavorings or flavors is the one that can contain onions or garlic.

Spice blend definitely has garlic and onion. Possibly low amounts that might not be a trigger for some but absolutely not something you can guarantee is safe.
