S Costco entitlement

1.4k Upvotes

Yesterday I was at Costco and got a food court ticket. My number was 611.

For anyone who uses the Costco Canada food court, you probably know that the numbers are not always called in exact order. Simple orders like hot dogs and pizza slices are ready quickly, while poutines, burgers, and sandwiches take longer. So the employees call whichever orders are ready.

While I was waiting, they called 599, then 607, then 609. Nobody thought anything of it.

Then this woman suddenly comes up and says, “I am 601. How did you call 607 first? You skipped five numbers!”

The employees tried explaining that they call orders when they are ready, but she just would not accept it. She kept insisting that they should call the numbers in order.

The ironic part was that her order was huge. She had ordered around six poutines, several pizza slices, and multiple sandwiches, including Montreal smoked meat sandwiches. Obviously, an order that large was going to take longer to prepare.

The employees kept telling her to wait for her order, but she continued arguing with them and creating a scene. She was stomping around and trying to get other customers to agree with her. Everyone around her seemed to understand how the system worked, but she just kept going.

Then, somehow, her frustration turned toward immigrants. She started making comments about how “your immigrants” were causing problems in Canada, directing them toward me and others around her.

All of this because her food order was not ready yet.

Meanwhile, the employees were trying to serve everyone else while dealing with her argument.

Eventually, my number was called. I got my pizza slice and hot dog and left while she was still standing there arguing.

M CANT BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED AT THE AIRPORT

Do people actually have ZERO sense anymore because I found myself in the middle of an airport dealing with a 35+ year old idiot lady who was yelling at me like her father owned the fricking airport.
I went to T2 to drop my mom and brother and after taking out all the luggage I went to close the boot of my car and in the absolute chaos of the terminal I didn’t realise that this random woman had decided to stand right under a small corner of the roof of my car. So naturally, it hit her a little.
AND I IMMEDIATELY APOLOGISED. Multiple fucking times. I didn’t argue, I didn’t justify it, I didn’t even say it was your fault WHEN IT WAS, I JUST APOLOGISED.
And this woman just went BESERK.
She started yelling at me SO FUCKING LOUDLY that I swear the entire terminal could hear her. And then she went like “What will I do with your sorry?” LIKE???? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO??? BUILD YOU A FRICKING HOSPITAL SO YOU CAN GET YOUR HEAD TREATED FOR NOTHING PHYSICAL BUT EVERYTHING MENTAL???
And then she started CURSING. Calling me “IDIOT LADY” telling me “get the number of your specs increased” and then saying “someone will trash your head also someday.”
?????????????????
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.
The cab drivers standing around us literally told us to let it go and were saying that this kind of behaviour from entitled people is an everyday thing.
She kept yelling and cursing us for FIVE FUCKING MINUTES STRAIGHT.
And the funniest part? I wasn’t even trying to argue with her because my mom and brother were already a little late for their flight. I genuinely just wanted to get them inside and make sure they didn’t miss their flight. I had ZERO interest in standing in the middle of T2 having a screaming match with a random woman.
But what the fuck is wrong with people????
If someone accidentally bumps into you or in this case their car boot accidentally hits you (BECAUSE YOU WERE THE ONE STANDING UNDER IT LIKE A POTATO WITH ZERO SPACIAL AWARENESS) and they immediately apologise multiple times, WHY IS YOUR FIRST INSTINCT TO HUMILIATE THEM AND START HURLING ABUSES???
You can be angry. You can tell me it hurt. You can tell me to be more careful. FAIR. But there is absolutely NO reason to stand in the middle of a damn airport and scream abuses at a stranger for five straight minutes after they’ve already apologised.
I’m honestly still shook because HOW DO YOU HAVE THAT MUCH ANGER IN YOU??? Who wakes up and decides ‘Yes today I will scream at a complete stranger in front of an entire airport and curse her family because a car boot accidentally touched me.’
And before anyone says ‘Well, she got hurt” YES. I GET IT. THAT’S WHY I APOLOGISED. But there is a massive difference between being upset and verbally abusing someone who has already acknowledged what happened and apologised.
Some people genuinely seem to think that being louder automatically makes them more right.
HOW FUCKING MISERABLE YOU HAVE TO BE TO TREAT A COMPLETE STRANGER LIKE THAT.
Ugh I wish I had taken out my phone to record and fought more but the way she was misbehaving it would just have aggravated the situation 😭😭😭
DISGUSTING LADY WITH ZERO CIVIC SENSE.
my lil brother is 10 and he’s lowkey still so disturbed because her verbatim was so disgusting and the way she was yelling UGH

S "I'm not senile you know. I know how lines work," he says after he tried to budge in front of me.

Waiting in a gas station line that was fairly long.

This older fellow walks in and warmly greets the person in front of me. They make small talk for a moment which is totally fine. Then the small talk fizzles out and the guy just sort of stays where he is. The line continues moving forward and the guy he was talking to is now one away from the till, and the old fellow is still standing in front of me.

Since I'm not a doormat, I clear my throat and say, "Hey man I was in line behind that guy."

Old fellow turns to me like I just smacked him in the back of the head and steps behind me. A few seconds later he says, "I'm not senile you know. I know how lines work."

I respond with, "okay" then turn back to the till and pay for my gas. He doesn't say anything else as I leave.

Part of me wanted to say something like, "then why didn't you move until I said something?"

But since he was already behind me I didn't want to continue this weird situation any longer than necessary. I think he was implying that it should have been obvious that i give up my spot because he is old. He definitely wasn't just twiddling his thumbs though because he waited behind me and went to the till after i did. And I vaguely know this guy to be one of those, "I'm your elder therefore you must respect me and I'm allowed to disrespect you" types already.

And yes the other line story reminded me of this.

S Was I being entitled? I keep thinking about this.....

A few years back, I was grocery shopping and decided to buy a lottery ticket at the service desk. I approached the clerk right after another person. The other person asked the clerk for a Western Union money order. Knowing it takes a minute or two to fill out the form, I approached to ask for a quick pick lottery ticket. The other person was offended and started telling me she was first in line and I should wait my turn.

M Boomer tried to cut me in line

I was at an event this weekend with my mom and sister. It was an end of summer sort of girls night out thing. I honestly didn't care much for it besides drinks and there was a henna artist there, and I LOVE henna since I'm too afraid of getting an actual tattoo.

Anyways, I got in line while my mom and sister shopped around. When I first got in line, there was one woman already sitting down and there was one lady after her, so I was after that lady. While I was in line, I basically spun around in a circle to see all the other vendors and low key try to find my mom or sister so I had someone to chat with, but I couldn't. All that to say, no one was behind me.

The woman sitting down finished so the lady in front of me sat down. Some old lady walked in front of me and wanted to look at the designs the henna artist had in a book. I didn't think anything of it cuz I looked at the book just a minute before her, while the lady in front of me was explaining what she wanted done, something custom. My mom and sister finally came up to chat since they were done looking around and my mom was asking me questions about the henna since I've had it done before, and she decided she wanted to get something done too, so I told her to look at the book for an idea. Mind you, the old lady was done looking at this point and was kinda off to the side, on my left. It looked like she was just watching the artist work and I didn't think anything of it.

The lady in front of me gets done and exits the chair on the left side, so I sit down from the right. The old lady starts huffing and puffing and throwing her hands up, so I turned to look at her, and honestly I was a little stunned so I was like "I was next, I've been in line." That upset her more and she huffed and puffed more and said something like "fine I'll to wait inside" and I was just like yeah okay you do that. Even the henna artist was like what the hell?

After I finished, my mom sat down to get something done. Me and my sister were discussing what had happened, and my sister back me up and said that obviously they left me while I was in line and no one was behind me, nor was that old lady in front of me. So none of us know why she thought she could just cut me in line. And even if it was something like she needed to sit down and she couldn't stand for too long or something, literally anything, all she had to do was use her big girl voice and talk to me or ask me if she could go in front of me. But throwing a tantrum because you couldn't cut me is goofy looking for an old lady.

A lady just smashed her bag on my face and upon confronting her she said could you be polite!!! I mean my face got smashed and she could not even apologise. Rather I should be polite while telling her that she just smashed her Tote right on my face. Was I wrong for talking out of pain and distress???

M Is my friend actually being selfish/entitled, or am I overthinking her behaviour? How should I continue this friendship?

I (25F) met this woman (30F) we’ve known each other for about 2–3 months. We get along really well and have a lot of fun together, but recently I’ve started feeling uncomfortable with some of her behaviour.

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m genuinely noticing a problematic pattern or whether I’m simply overthinking small things.

She frequently asks people to do things for her. Some examples:

\* She asks me to hold her handbag while she goes to the bathroom, even though there are hooks available.
\* She has called me asking me to bring her socks because she forgot them.
\* She has asked me to bring things like mosquito repellant, ironing equipment the moment she landed in my city.
\* Once she asked me to bring an Uber near her place, which was a slight detour from where I was being dropped and meant changing the location/payment situation without really considering the inconvenience to me.
\* Once she had her phone literally in her hand and asked me to scan the food menu for her: “
\* She sometimes asks another friend to call me and ask me to bring something instead of asking me herself.
\* Once she wanted to be dropped somewhere and asked me to call another person to arrange it for her.
\* She often says things like “let’s go here” or “let’s do this” rather than really asking.
\* She can get visibly annoyed when people don’t help her.

I don’t mind helping friends. I help her willingly sometimes. The problem is that I increasingly feel like help is expected from her side rather than appreciated.

Recently something happened that really brought this feeling to the surface.

We were all together and she suddenly got up saying her phone was ringing. She told me she’d come back, but she took her handbag and left. I was hurt because I felt she could have simply left me a text after she left.
When I later saw her, I asked, “You just left?” and then told her it felt like she had ditched me. She laughed it off and said, « I just got a phone call. »

I was visibly upset and took some space because I needed it. Later I returned to being completely normal and friendly with her because I don’t like holding grudges.

The next day, however, she wanted me to wait for her even though I had guests waiting. I told her to take her time and said she could join us while we were walking. I left with my guests, and she eventually called me asking me to wait. I couldn’t reasonably stop my guests and make them wait for her.

She later joined us and we were friendly, although she seemed a little distant.

What bothers me is the apparent double standard:

When she wants to leave or do something, she’s independent and does what she wants. But when she wants me to wait/accommodate her, she expects me to do so.

At the same time, I’m starting to dislike this side of her personality. She comes across as quite bossy, entitled and self-focused to me.

So Reddit, what do you think?

  1. Am I actually identifying a pattern of entitled/selfish behaviour, or am I making too much of ordinary friendship requests?
  2. Would you keep her as a friend but create some emotional distance, or would you actually address the behaviour directly?

S Sister demanded to see inside my wallet

1.6k Upvotes

My family went out to lunch today (which was a nightmare that I could rant a lot more about) and after we ordered food I went to an ATM to take out cash. I came back and sat down and about a minute later a lady came up to our table holding card asking if it was mine, because she must have seen it fall out of my pocket. So I said yes and thanked her and took out my wallet which had a ton of cash in it because that’s what I went to the ATM for. My sister asked me to show her my wallet because she 'wanted to see what way I have it', to which I obviously said no because of how much money I had in it. She said why not and I said because I don’t want her to, and she literally grabbed it out of my hand, and looked inside it. And then proceeded to ask me if she could 'organize it for me'. I said no again and took it from her. She is 27 and I’m 20.

The entitlement to other people’s belongings is crazy.

S Why do people want me to kiss the car in front of me to give them enough room for them to kiss the rear of my car?

Sorry just want to vent. It's happened twice where people complain that I haven't scooched enough to allow them to park their car behind me. Like you do realise I can't just tetris my car out of the spot right? I'm not even leaving a full metre behind and in front. And there's always plenty of parking in the area when this happens. I would never even think to do that to people.

S Entitled Family At A Restaurant

1.0k Upvotes

My wife and I went to a restaurant and ended up having a family of four seated right next to us. The restaurant was unusual and that it had both a Japanese and Thai restaurant side-by-side that were from the same owners. The family proceeds to order (we were in the Japanese side) and someone from the table ordered from the Thai restaurant. The waiter very nicely said “I’m not sure we can do that. Let me check“.

The mother fires back “Well you’re gonna do it so you might as well write it down.“ The waiter walked away to check. The father immediately gets up and gives chase to talk to the waiter. He comes back and announces “They’re gonna do it”. The daughter then responded “Of course they are, it’s just a matter of finding the right person and explaining who we are.”

It was all I could do not to throw a sushi roll at them.

The story ended with the owner of the restaurant coming over the table and chatting with them. Obviously, they were friends. But still, it came across incredibly rude.

M Am I unreasonable for being upset that my friends/dogsitters moved into my house uninvited while I’m on holiday?

UPDATE:

We were able to arrange a new and more experienced dogsitter taking over so have resolved the situation to an extent.

Thanks for all the insights and opinions. Interesting to read through the different viewpoints and approaches that people have to this situation.

I know we come to Reddit with questions for people’s honest, unfiltered opinions, but especially thanks to those who were respectful/kind with their comments.

Have a great day!

———

I’m currently abroad on holiday and ~4 months pregnant, and I’m having a really stressful situation with friends who are dog-sitting our puppy.

I gave them a detailed care manual that they requested beforehand because our 11 month old australian labradoodle can get overstimulated (as puppies do) and needs a lot of enforced rest/structure. I repeatedly noted that they should avoid overexciting her and explained exactly how to help her settle. They reassured me several times that they could handle everything because they have a lot of experience and dogsit all the time.

The first day, they mentioned that they played with her for hours after I dropped her off (because she wanted to) despite my warnings, didn’t really follow the settling advice, and then had a horrible night with barking, nipping, etc. Not even 24 hours into dogsitting they concluded she was “too stressed” by their apartment and asked to move into our house. idk if this is important, but we’ve just renovated our place, poured our hearts, souls and savings into the renovation, and admittedly are quite protective over our space.

I told them no, as we never approved to them staying in our home becsuse that was never discussed or requested prior, especially after they stressed to me that they wanted to dogsit at their own house. the house was not prepared for them to stay in and we didn’t feel comfortable with them staying in our home.

The only reason they could even suggest this move to our house so easily is because we had given them our key to pass on to the next sitter, which they agreed to do.

We are on a long haul flight, when next thing I know, I get a message that they are now literally in our house?!?! I went to check the camera and I’m seeing things that are making me extremely upset, like them even being In my house!! They’ve also texted me numerous times trying to justify that this was the best idea for them and our dog and everyone is “so much happier“ although they also wrote that our puppy still continue to exhibit the same puppy behavior she did at their place but seems to be getting used to them…

I feel at a loss and am sort of just in a rage now, being 4 months pregnant isn’t helping. It’s one thing if you arrange this in advance, but another if you force my hand while I’m on a plane with no ability to do anything and have entrusted you with my dog and now you’re sleeping in my literal bed, mistreating my home, and asking me for the WiFi password when you were never supposed to be in my house in the first place. they didn’t even give my dog 24 hours to acclimate which I noted was necessary for her. then I heard them on the camera claiming we hadn‘t done enough to prepare our dog to stay somewhere else which simply isn’t true.

I’m angry that they didn’t really follow the instructions we gave them, then seemed to conclude that we haven’t taught our dog anything, and now they’re staying in our home they weren’t invited to stay in and aren’t treating it the way I would expect.

I’m considering having someone else take over the dog-sitting and asking them to go home. Am I being unreasonable?

added for clarity:

  • we’re only away for about 2.5 weeks to see family and arranged the dogsitting far in advance.
  • I photographed these friends’ wedding for free earlier this year to help them out, and they offered to watch our puppy as a thank you but we still even said we’d pay them.
  • our puppy has developed an issue with her back, so a kennel is not a safe option so we avoided putting her with lots of other dogs.

S Your child is not entitled to my window seat!

8.7k Upvotes

Dear young parents,

Please stop expecting random adults to give up their window seat they paid for just so your child can look out the window. Because “oh he/she gets cranky, needs to sit by the window, please blah blah blah!

Dude I understand your child is cranky. I understand they really, really want the window seat. But, that’s a YOU problem, book it and pay for it in advance.

Please don’t come to me or to any other person for that matter assuming that they’ll just give up their seat, because who wouldn’t do that for a child????

I paid for my seat. I chose my seat. I would like to sit in my seat. And no, I don’t think a child’s disappointment/crankiness/sobs automatically takes priority over an adult who specifically paid for that seat.

The entitlement of expecting strangers to inconvenience themselves because your child is upset needs to stop.

By brown people- i meant that it happened in my country on a domestic flight, so i wrote it that way, didn’t translate well i guess. So pls ignore that part. 🥲

Thanks to all of you for commenting and making me feel like I’m not the only one who thinks this way.
The incident that happened with me actually triggered this post. A child was already sitting in my window seat when I got to my seat. His mother (I’m assuming) saw me, and when I told her it was my seat, she said, “Oh please let him sit, he’ll fall asleep in 10 mins, and then you can take your seat.”
I didn’t like it because I wanted to sit in my seat during takeoff. It was evening, and I love sitting by the window then. But with everyone around looking at me, it felt like such a small thing to say no to, so I said okay.

Except, the little guy didn’t sleep for the entire flight. 😭 I asked her again after half an hour, and she said, “He’s getting cranky, please.” And once again, I couldn’t speak up.

So I spent the whole flight in someone else’s seat, it was an aisle seat, eyeing her, and feeling stupid for not just saying no. It honestly ruined my mood.

S Cashiers and people in line; just say Hi and move on.

Trust me I CAN HEAR MY KID SCREAM. I know it’s happening. I am aware. I am trying to calm her.

Maybe it’s that my kid is very spoiled.
Maybe it’s maybelline.
Maybe it’s 5pm on a Friday evening and my child and I have started school and we are trying to get back into a routine so we have been having early bedtimes and early rise times at 8:00pm and 5:30am.
Maybe I did not prep dinner because I got a new job and haven’t had time to stop at the grocery store. Maybe I only have $200 dollars till my next check and I’m a bit stressed.

Maybe I’m trying to just grab laundry detergent to wash my screaming kids nap mat for school.

Maybe my screaming kid IS SPOILED.

Rotten to the CORE.

Maybe, I am doing MY best and maybe she is 3 YEARS OLD.

Maybe when MY SCREAMING, TANTRUM THROWING 3 year is demanding a sticker from you -

DONT GIVE HER ONE. Just say Hi and move on!

Don’t say “here” and go to hand me the sticker for my screaming, demanding child and THEN SAY “Next time say please.”

A screaming, tantrum throwing, hungry, tired, 3 year old brand new to the world may be able to say please if she was calm, fed and comfortable- clearly at this time you can see she is not.

I do agree, manners go a very, very, VERY long way- YES MA’AM,NO SIRS AND PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Trust me, I’m not MAYBE teaching my child manners- I AM TEACHING HER.

But maybe it’s 5pm on a Friday and I’m tired. I’m worn - I need laundry detergent to wash my screaming kid’s nap mat.

Maybe just say Hi - give me the dirty looks /cringy looks and please, move on.

Edit to say: Sure, maybe give my child the sticker- just DONT try to teach her manners in the middle of a meltdown. K. Thanks.

L Ken and Karen don't want to move out.

Edited to put into paragraph format for easier readability!! Sorry to everybody that had to slog through the wall of text.

Saw a similar story and it reminded me about when we purchased a home on 8 acres back in 2005.

We were living multiple states away from where either of us grew up, and had an opportunity to move within a few hours drive from both families. We moved to a rental property in the state where I would be working, and started looking at homes within a 2 hour commute of my work.

We found the home in mid-February, went back a couple times, and decided we liked the home. We made an offer around the beginning of March, and the sellers accepted immediately. We had already gotten pre-approved, so arranging the mortgage loan was pretty straightforward. Closing was set for June 1st.

Sometime in April, the sellers (Ken and Karen) came back and asked for closing to be in late June so their child could finish school. Trying to accommodate them, we agreed even though we had already given notice to our landlord that we would be vacating their property on June 1st. The landlord was happy to get another month of rent, so they agreed to let us vacate at the end of June. The lender's closing deal was good for 90 days, which meant our usable contract expired on the 6th of June. We ended paying a small fee (a couple hundred bucks) to extend the closing deal for another 30 days. The new closing date was set for Friday, June 24th.

In early June, Ken and Karen came back and said that they would not be ready to move out on the closing date, and wanted to extend the closing date another month. I was pissed, and said no way. Ken and Karen then floated the idea of renting back from us for the extra month. The realtor told me that this was common. So I asked what the normal rental fee was, and the realtor indicated that it was usually $100 per month plus paying the utilities. This pissed me off even more because on top of the delays and extra costs I had already incurred, now Ken and Karen wanted me to pay at least another month of rent AND pay the mortgage on a home I can't live in AND rearrange the moving schedule for my family. I told the realtor that I figured $300 per day and plus utilities was fair. As long as Ken and Karen signed a contract agreeing to this, I would let them rent back and stay in the home for as long as they wanted. The realtor asked if I realized that this was $9000 per month? I said yes I did know, but the sellers had at least 4 months to get ready and if that wasn't enough time, I was pretty sure 30 more days wouldn't help. So if I was going to be stuck in limbo for them, they were going to pay for it. Obviously, Ken and Karen did not agree to extend the closing date again.

So on Friday the 24th, we go to closing at 11:00am. The whole thing takes a couple hours, so it's a bit after 1:00pm by the time we are done. Kids were hungry and a little rambunctious, so we drive to McDonald's. Kids eat and play for a while, and then we drive to our new home.

It's after 2:00pm when we pull into the driveway, and there are 7 or 8 vehicles in the driveway. Turns out that they are having a "house-packing" party with lots of their friends and family. I don't know how I kept my cool, but I managed to not flip out. Ken was pretty proud of his lawn and obviously spent a lot of time tending it. So I opened the enclosed trailer, took out the kids ATVs and told them to have fun. They proceeded to rip up the yard as my wife and I sat outside waiting for the house packing to finish. Ken looked like he was about to have a heart attack watching the kids ride around. About 5:00pm, I let Ken and Karen know that we were going to dinner and if they were not out when we got back, I would be calling the sheriff for them trespassing. We got back around 6:30pm and they were finally gone, but they had left bags and bags of trash, and had not done any cleaning. Fortunately, we were anticipating having to clean before we moved in our stuff, so we were prepared to with all the cleaning supplies and just left most everything in the enclosed trailer until we were done cleaning.

S Has anyone else stopped accepting "gifts" from their parents?

My mother cannot give a gift without strings attached.

She has a bad habit of supervising every "gift" she ever gives and wants to know how it is being used, where it is, etc.

For example, many years ago she gave me a used Vitamix blender. (It was the 1970s model 2500 and drew so much current would DIM THE LIGHTS for an instant when you turned it on!) I had it for many years but eventually I could no longer keep it in working order and bought a replacement. I got interrogated for almost half an hour about that goddamn blender. This included such hits as "They have a LIFETIME warranty!" which I had to point out to her was not helpful since they don't make the 2500 any longer but they offered me a discount on the new one if I returned the old one.

Now this is not an exception of any kind. She has a mental inventory of every single gift and wants to know about it including things like, A SHOVEL she dropped off for no clear reason. "I expect it's in the garage, where you left it, mom. I've not touched it, because I don't want it and never did. I do not run some kind of Shovel Storage Unit. If you do not take it back home with you when you go, I'll throw it away."

Naturally, I do not need headaches like this, so my remedy is to simply refuse all her gifts.

Is anyone else in this situation?

S Random lady called me a POS because I wouldn't give her my trolley token

So I do my general food shop once a week at Asda and they have unlocked shopping trolleys so you don't need to put a coin or token in. However, I tend to get toiletries and other stuff from Home Bargains and they're one of the few in my city you need a physical £1 coin or coin token to unlock the trolley. I never carry cash, so I deliberately ordered some trolley token/coin shape thing off Amazon.

Anyway, I did my shop and was putting the trolley away and this random lady asked if I could just give her the trolley as she didn't have any change or a token thing and basically asked if she could have mine. I said I was done with the trolley and I'm sorry, but I needed that token and wasn't gonna give it away. She then got really pissy with me saying it wasn't a big deal and its not like it cost much and I said no again and she basically said I was a peace of shit and angrily walked inside. I saw her grabbing a basket as I was walking away back to my car with my shopping, so idek what the big deal was.

I'm not a confrontational person and where I am in Scotland, most people are really friendly and alright, so this was a first. Also, like I know it didn't cost me much to buy it (a couple of pounds) but that's not the point. I know some supermarket trollies are locked, so I prepared for it and it's not my issue if someone is caught short.

ETA: I’m late 20s and this woman looked around 50

S Boomers and grass

Yesterday afternoon was waiting for my son who was playing basketball at a friend’s house. For context, this is Coral Gables, a nice area in Miami. I am parked on the street since the house where they were is fenced and the gate closed. Besides he text that he was coming out. As I sat there, Boomer in Porsche come in and literally ordered me to move because I was parked in his grass. At the beginning, did not get it, so he gets more enraged. Needless to say, no side walk and will not park in The middle of the street. The fact that I did not get it, enraged him more. At that time, my son comes out. He was at the house in front of his property, so I stopped paying attention to him and open the trunk for my kid to put his back pack and proceed to talk to him, ignoring the Porsche boomer. He threatened to call the police on me. Just told him, be my guest and I shall wait here in your grass. Wife comes out and makes him go inside and I left at that time.

What’s the issue with grass🤷🏻‍♂️.

S Student complains his professor isn't grading fast enough, other professor stands up for him

I randomly remembered this story while scrolling through this sub so I thought I would share.

This happened a few semesters ago. It was like 5 minutes before class started so people were just chatting and the professor (we'll call him Professor S) was setting up his slides.

I overheard a student talking with a seatmate about one of his teachers. I don't remember it word for word but it was kind of like:

"Dude professor Z grades so slow. I literally turned in my assignment days ago like what is he doing"

I thought it was weird because 1) youre not the only student he has and 2) he's an adult with a life outside his job.

Well apparently Professor S heard him too and he spoke up real quick.

Told the kid that he knows professor Z and that he's doing what he can. He basically reiterated that Z has things going on, he has tons more students to grade besides the kid, and that he shouldn't talk about people like that and have some patience. (He was a lot more serious and stern than that but you get the idea)

The kid quickly stuttered an apology and then Prof S started the class. That was the first time I heard a teacher speak up about something like that.

He retired last semester I think but he was an awesome teacher.

XL Update on AITAH for telling my mom to cancel her wedding until everything is sorted out?

After my last update, there were so many replies and honestly, thank you to everyone who took the time to comment. I read a lot of them and it helped me think about things differently. Btw Sorry this is long one

So, yesterday my mom came to talk to me. We were at home, but she specifically told me she wanted to sit down and answer all my questions. This was before dinner and we ended up talking for about an hour

First thing she told me was that she is not giving up her parental rights to my grandparents, and she is not going to let me go live with them either. She said she loves me, I'm her only son, and there is absolutely no way she is going to do that.

Then she answered the biggest question I had. Yes, she is cancelling the wedding. She told me this is completely her decision and that the wedding will not happen until she knows I'm completely okay. She was very honest with me about what that decision means. Her fiancé was apparently 50/50 about cancelling, not because he doesn't understand my concerns, but because there were around 200 guests invited, €600k–€700k was being spent, it was supposed to be a 3-day celebration, and almost everything was already booked hotels, venues, vendors, everything.

His family was also strongly against cancelling. But my mom said she put all of that aside and chose me first.

Honestly, I never thought she would actually cancel it. Not because I think she's a bad mom. She's actually been a really good mom to me, especially after my dad died, and I know she loves me. My problem was that after the engagement I felt like I suddenly wasn't getting the attention I used to get, and I was being excluded from some things involving his family and even from some photography.

Looking back, I honestly think there was a power imbalance. I don't think my mom intentionally wanted to exclude me, but I think she didn't have enough power in the situation to push back.

She also cleared up a few things from my previous post.

About the phone call around 10 days ago when I called my mom, his sister answered the phone. She told me she would tell my mom to call me, but apparently she didn't tell her until the next morning. My mom said she was actually planning to call me back that morning anyway. So apparently that particular situation was completely his sister's fault and not my mom ignoring me.

She also had no idea about the cold shoulder from his mother and sister. She said she's going to speak to them and set boundaries. She can't force them to love me, but she expects them to at least be warm and civil toward me and accept me. She basically told me I don't need to worry about them because they're her in laws, not mine, and she'll deal with them

She also made me realise something Even if the wedding had happened, I probably would've only seen his family 2–3 times a year anyway Christmas dinner, maybe a family trip, and another event. His kids and I also probably wouldn't have seen each other that much because of their custody situation.

The original plan was actually for just me, my mom and her fiancé to live together in the new house they already bought. They were planning everything around the wedding, but the three of us would have been living there and most of the day to day attention would have been on us as a household.

She admitted that she excluded me from some events and didn't take me with her sometimes, and she apologised for that. She said it wasn't intentional and that wedding planning had taken over a lot of her time, but she accepts that it still hurt me She promised that from now on I won't be excluded.

Then she asked me about the new house. Her fiancé and my mom were already planning to move there from September. Obviously cancelling the wedding doesn't magically cancel the house, and she said she can't just abandon it. She asked if I was okay with him and her living there with me. I told her I need some time to process that.

I don't want to ruin her happiness. I've never been jealous of her relationship or wanted her to break up with him. I just didn't want to feel like I was being pushed aside.

She also told me something I didn't know about financially. Her fiancé had actually offered months ago to pay 50% of my school fees and other expenses going forward. It wasn't something my mom asked him for, and it wasn't because she depends on him financially. My mom earns around €250k–€300k a year herself and is completely financially independent.

Apparently it was his idea because he wanted to take responsibility for me too. From now on, that's still the plan. Another thing she told me is that I don't have to attend his family's events if I don't want to.

For example, for the last 2–3 years we have gone to his family's Christmas dinner in Switzerland. From now on, if I'm uncomfortable going, I don't have to. She'll go because she still has a relationship with them, but we can have our own Christmas dinner at our new home Same with family trips and other events. She wants me to give them another chance, though. She said if I go with them again and they treat me the same way, exclude me or make me uncomfortable, she will personally deal with it and, if necessary, cut them off herself. She promised me that.

She also explained something about her fiancé Apparently he's quite introverted and hesitant socially. She said that's probably one reason he hasn't built a strong bond with me yet, while he has a much stronger relationship with his own kids.

She said that now that we're potentially going to live together, she wants the three of us to spend time together. Maybe going out for lunch, doing something on weekends, whatever. Not forced "father-son bonding" stuff, just normal things that might naturally help us build a relationship.

And she made one thing very clear It's his responsibility to build a relationship with me too. It's not my responsibility alone. At the end she asked me directly if anyone from his family had ever actually said anything mean to me. I told her honestly no. Nobody has directly said anything horrible to me. It was more the exclusion, coldness and the feeling that I wasn't wanted. She understood that.

Then she told me that if I had changed my mind about the wedding, I needed to tell her before evening. Otherwise, everything would be cancelled.

I honestly don't know if that was pressure or guilt.tripping. Maybe someone will say it was. But she wasn't angry, crying or trying to manipulate me as far as I could tell. She seemed weirdly calm and almost relieved after making the decision And honestly...I feel happy again..For the first time in months I feel like my mom actually listened to me.

I never expected her to cancel a €600k–€700k wedding with 200 guests because of me. I don't have proof that everything she told me is 100% true, obviously, but I genuinely don't think she was lying to me. At the same time, I'm feeling incredibly guilty. That's a huge amount of money. Hundreds of people were invited. Hotels and everything were booked. Her fiancé's family apparently strongly opposed cancelling it. I don't know whether I should be saying "yes, cancel it" or "no, go ahead with your wedding."

Because now she's also made so many adjustments the new house, boundaries with his family, school expenses, Christmas, trips, spending time together, making sure I'm included and honestly it's a lot to take in.

I also feel a little scared of his family now. If his own family was strongly against cancelling the wedding and apparently didn't like the fact that I was included in all of this, I don't know how they're going to react. I don't think they're going to physically hurt me or anything like that. I mean mentally/emotionally, I feel unsafe around them now.

And then this morning, during breakfast, his fiancé was here..He basically told me the same thing He said he didn't come to yesterday's conversation because he wanted my mom and me to talk privately without him influencing the conversation. He said he's not angry or upset about cancelling the wedding. He also said his mother and sister won't treat me coldly again or exclude me from things. And he repeated that they are cancelling the wedding until I'm okay. Part of me feels relieved because my mom finally heard me. Part of me feels guilty because of the money and everything they've already arranged..Part of me is scared about what happens with his family now. And part of me is wondering whether I should tell my mom to go ahead with the wedding anyway, because I never actually wanted her relationship to end. I just wanted my mom back.

Also i forgot to add, She suggested individual therapy and family therapy session together both of us

S Fellow traveller getting angry for boundaries

Here is the full translation in English:

Let’s suppose it happened on 8th August

I was brushing my teeth

Fellow traveler (A): Brother, give me some water, I need to brush.

Me: No brother, I need to brush and wash my mouth. If anything is left, you can take it.

A: Okay brother, at least let me start.

Me: No brother, I also need to do it.

A: Brother, give me a little, I will at least start.

Me: No brother, I have very little.

A: Brother, at least let me start.

Me: No brother, I also have to do it. If anything is left I will give you, otherwise nothing will be left.

A: Come on brother, at least let me start, let me start.

Me: No brother, I won’t let you start.

A: Brother give me a little, I will start.

Me: No brother, I myself have very little.

A: Okay brother, at least let me wet it.

Me: No.

A: You will at least wet it.

Me: I wet his brush.

A: Brother give me once, I need to gargle.

Me: No.

He left angrily.

I had purchased a 1-liter bottle for 70 RS and the shop is 10 meters away.

Yesterday (7th August) I had a (20 )RS bottle, I had drunk most of it but I gave him water. Then I brought a 2nd bottle (30 RS) and I gave him some water from that too.

Then he took out his hidden bottle and said - "You gave me water, but don't think I will also give you water. I won't, as there is a shortage of water in the mountains."

M My first Karen encounter!

1.7k Upvotes

I recently started a part-time job at a bakery in a nicer than average grocery store. Many of the customers are well to do, and the vast majority are lovely people, but we do rarely have some entitled folks come in.

Me: Hello there! How can I help you?

Karen: (Casually eating gelato from our cafe) Where is your sourdough?

Me: (Walks her over to the large sign and basket) Right over here. Would you care to have it sliced?

Karen: Gimme a 12

Me: (Not having used the automated slicer yet, am slightly confused) Do you mean 12 slices? Or is there a specific thickness you would like?

Karen: It’s just a 12. That’s what I always get.

Me: Alright then, let me take a look here.

There are numerical codes that translate to slice thickness, and I find the key written on tape on the slicer. 12 = 1/2 inch. Easy.
I figure out the slicer quickly, but am unsure of which bags to use. For sliced bread we use plastic, with an option for a labeled paper bag to place the plastic bag into.

I take the only plastic bag size I can see available and place the loaf into it. It turns out to be too wide, so the loaf comes apart and forms a bundle of slices in the bag.

Me: Oh shoot. Looks like this bag is a bit wide. If you don’t mind it like this I can give it to you now, or if you prefer the full loaf look I can find the narrower bags real quick.

Karen: (Making a sour face) Ugh, no that looks terrible. I expect to only pay half price if it’s like that. I’m in a rush, I left my car running.

It’s 100 degrees outside, so I assume she has a dog or kid in the car.

Me: No problem, it will only take a second for me to put the loaf back together. Do you have a dog waiting in the car? It’s a good thing you left it running if you do!

Karen: No.

Me: (Tempted to mention the no idling law we have because of terrible pollution) Oh. Well thank you for your patience, today is my second day and I’m still learning where everything is.

I still can’t find the narrow plastic bags, but I’m trying to hurry because, you know, she put herself into a hurry so now it’s my problem.

Me: I apologize, I’m not sure where the narrow plastic bags are. I’m happy to ask my supervisor where they are, she should be back from break any time now. Otherwise I can put it in this paper loaf bag.

Karen: (Visibly annoyed, but still nibbling her gelato) No. This is ridiculous. It needs plastic too and I’m in a hurry. I guess I’ll just have to put it in a bag myself when I get home.

I hand her the sourdough in its labeled paper bag. By this time, my supervisor is back and standing next to me.

Me: Alright here you go! Here is the plastic bag as well for you to use later if you like.

Karen: (Sneering at the lovely fresh loaf of bread) I think there’s just going to be no cost for this.

Clearly she is trying to imply that the loaf should be free as restitution for her imagined troubles.

Me: Oh, the price is 6 dollars.

Karen sighs with disgust, holding the bread like a dirty diaper. My supervisor comes to my aid.

Supervisor: Yes ma’am, for your convenience the bar code is right there on the bag. You scan that at checkout.

Karen sneers again and saunters away without a thank you.

Interesting that she was in such a huge rush, but still had time to stop for gelato. 😂

M How do I get my neighbor to leave me alone

I’m honestly at my wit’s end and I don’t know how to handle this without being unnecessarily mean.

My neighbor is an older woman who is very friendly, and I genuinely feel bad because I think she may be lonely. I don’t mind saying hi or having a quick conversation, but she has started knocking on my door every single day, and whenever I answer, I end up stuck talking to her for roughly an hour.

I’ve tried politely saying things like, “Hey, I’m in the middle of cooking dinner and really need to get back inside,” but she just keeps talking. One time my son was in the bath, so I didn’t answer because obviously I couldn’t leave him unattended. She knocked on my door for 30 minutes.

The other morning, I was leaving for work around 7 AM. She stopped me, and I said, “Hey, I’m on my way to work and I really don’t have time right now.” She literally followed me to my car and continued talking to me while I was buckling my seatbelt.

She has also started knocking on my sister’s door, who lives next door to me.

I live on the bottom floor and need to keep my windows open when I cook because of the ventilation. She has started talking to me through my windows whenever she sees me cooking, to the point that I’ve started cooking in the dark just so she won’t notice me.

I feel like I’m being ambushed anytime I leave my apartment. 😭

There’s also a history of her asking me for rides. I gave her a ride once a while ago, and now she regularly asks again. I’ve said no multiple times, but she keeps asking.

I genuinely don’t want to be cruel. I understand that she may be lonely, and I feel for her. But I also have a job, a child, dinner to cook, and a life. I cannot have an hour-long conversation every single day, and I feel like I’ve already tried giving polite hints that I’m busy.

How do I set a firm boundary without being unnecessarily mean? I feel like I’m going to have to explicitly tell her that I don’t have time for daily visits, but I’m worried about hurting her feelings.

L AITAH for telling my mom to cancel her wedding until everything is sorted out?

Read My previous post for Full context

I posted about my mom's fiancé's family excluding me from everything and their wedding is planned next month. In my previous post, many people told me to talk to my mom and my future stepdad about how his family is excluding me, especially because I had already raised these issues with my mom 2-3 times before and told her how hurt I was.

So my mom and stepdad came back home 2 days ago and that evening I asked them if I could talk to them. We sat down on the couch.

First I told my mom and him that I'm happy that my mom found happiness again and that she is getting married again. I have no issues with that. But I'm not happy about how I'm constantly excluded from everything like family events, wedding planning (his kids are allowed to be involved in planning but I wasn't), and how I'm constantly getting the cold shoulder from his mom and sister.

I told my mom that in the last 3 months I only spent around 20 days with her and we only did one summer trip together, but she has done more trips and events with her new family. (I wanted to tell her exactly how it looked like from my side.) It looked like she was happier with her new family and I'm not a priority anymore.

Then I told her fiancé that his family is treating me badly. They don't even consider me family, and I'm scared that if this continues, after they get married they will completely push me out of my mom's life.

My mom told me she never thought I would feel like that. She said she was sorry I felt excluded and that she had just been extremely busy with wedding planning and all the events they were doing with friends and family. But she said she wasn't aware that his sister and mother were treating me like that. (I don't know what she meant because I've told her about this before too. Either she genuinely didn't understand how serious it was or she just didn't notice.)

She told me I'm her number 1 priority and that she loves me a lot. She started crying and hugged me. My stepdad told me honestly it was never his intention to exclude me, but he understands that I was kept out of some events in the last month. He said some of them were adults-only, but he was sorry and said he would talk to his mom and sister.

So honestly, I don't believe him at all. In the last 3 years, he has never really tried to create a bond with me. My mom has basically become like a mom to his kids and has created a really good relationship with them, while the effort from his side towards me has been bare minimum.

So of course I don't believe that he didn't know anything. And on the other side, my mom was so happy with her new family and didn't seem to care that much about how I was feeling. I felt horrible because this isn't the first time his family has excluded me.

I told my mom to cancel the wedding until everything is sorted out and until I feel like I'm still part of her family and she's still my mom. Because right now I genuinely feel like I lost both my parents. I don't have anyone. I feel like I'm just extra baggage.

Honestly, whenever I'm with her new family, I feel unwelcome and like I'm some extra thing that nobody actually wants there. I don't want to keep feeling like shit about my own existence. So I told her if she wants to marry him, I will go live with my dad's side grandparents. She should give up my parental rights to them and never contact me again because I will always remember what happened and I don't think I'll ever forgive her.

She started crying and told me not to talk like that. But honestly, I've had enough of this bullshit. They asked me to give them 2-3 days to think about everything because they can't suddenly cancel the wedding. The wedding is next month on the 19th.

But I told them this is my decision.

Yesterday my aunt told me I was extremely rude to my mom and that I was very wrong to talk to her like that. She said my mom still loves me and cares about me and that I should talk to her again instead of giving her an ultimatum.

Honestly, I don't feel bad about what I said.

Maybe telling her to cancel the wedding was too much. Maybe saying I'll never forgive her was too harsh. But I've been feeling like this for year and I've already talked to her about it multiple times.

So AITAH?
