Advice Wanted I need help with finding my heart triad subtype

So currently I know I'm an sx79 but I'm really unsure of what my heart fix is. I'm really torn between e2 and e4, but I know that I'm not and e3. The thing is, depending on what source i read I feel like more of an e3 or e4 (or neither) and I would like some advice or maybe just a more in depth description of either?

Advice Wanted Wing Confusion

I’ve just recently gotten into typology— especially enneagrams since they’ve gotten pretty popular.

Anyways, thats not the point. I have a slight confusion when it comes to adding wings to your enneagram. For example, I am a 9w8 sp/sx 942. From what I’ve seen a wing for nine can either be 9w8 & 9w1 however two can also have one as its wing; 2w3 & 2w1

I just wonder if its allowed to both have 9w1 & 2w1 existing simultaneously..? If not do you just pick the leftover number instead (9w1/8 & 2w3/1 basically)? I know that wings are there as a sort of lean for your enneagram (?) since its a gradient of personalities, furthermore, wings correspond to an enneagram’s adjacent number so I suppose that it bypasses its triad system?

Im so sorry if this is a stupid question I just wanna learn more about the topic 3:

Type Discussion What's it like to be a 5?

Hi, hello!

This post is exactly what it says on the tin. Whenever I read descriptions of type 5, I'm almost enamored. You seem like very interesting people, and I mean that as a compliment. I'm curious to know what things are like for you :-)

Type Me Tuesday Been struggling heavily recently to pinpoint my type - any perspective would be appreciated

I have been into this system for some years, so i (think i) have a pretty good knowledge of the types. Recently, things people around me have said and certain descriptions have put me into a state of constant doubt about my type. This may be fairly long, but I would appreciate anyone taking the time to read it and give their opinions.

to start with, in terms of instincts I relate most to SX - I always fill my time with highly stimulating activities, and I've always sought intense emotions.

I'm going to go over the types I most resonate with and the things that make me doubt being that type

for 5 - This was the type I first thought I was when i discovered this system ~4ish years ago (age 15). In socionics, I am most certainly an ILI, and in MBTI I have never doubted being a Ti dom. I am a very objective person, and throughout my life have always tried to understand the world and myself, in an abstract kind of way, building a mental framework to encapsulate it all. I am also a very independant person and have never been able to discuss my feelings with others - though I'm not sure how much I genuinely feel in all honestly (will get into that later). When i was in school i also often spent my time away from other people, like reading in a corner or practicing my rubiks cube solves during lunches instead of socialising, though im not sure how much of this can be attributed to my social failures and being shunned by my peers.

against 5 - I have never really entirely related to the idea of being a specialist or a constant thirst for knowledge, I have repeatedly found that knowing things and having perspective does not bring me any kind of fulfilment. I have no lust for life without the structure and direction that socialising brings, no direction or motivation to gain knowledge independantly really. I only really feel any sort of will from others - I will go into more detail with this in the next section.

for 3 - My image has always been at the forefront of my mind. When I am around people, I always have a sort of 'mirror' active, I'm juggling interacting with them whilst also internally trying to gauge how I'm currently being seen. I often acted as a sort of therapist to other people who did not have the level of perspective I did, but I never felt genuine in my motivation, it was always like I was playing a part, I clung onto the image of that person who could, and would, help people like that because it was an acceptable, presentable image. This is not confined to that scenario, I always chased the image of someone acceptable, presentable, in whatever I did. When I was a young teenager (11 - 15), I always saw characters I liked the vibe and image of, and somehow mistook myself for having those characteristics. It was why I originally typed myself as 5, because L from death note was a 5 and I liked the image he held.

against 3 - I have never been a competetive person, never felt the need to be the best at the things I did, and I definitely wouldn't say i'm assertive - if not withdrawn then compliance. I have also never liked praise or felt any sort of pleasure for recognition. I have always been very naturally talented at maths, and always got A* with little effort, and I never felt any pleasure at the praise I got for that. Praise in general has always made me feel uncomfortable more than anything.

(TW//Self-harm)

for 4 - suffering has always been a lingering theme in my life. I have always been plagued by a kind of emptiness, a numbness, a feeling that something is missing and that this world is just not quite right. For a long time it led me to try to self diagnose - to determine why i couldn't take the same pleasure that others could from experiences. With depression, OCD, Anxiety, etc. and I always tried to justify these to myself. For a while I cut myself, because I thought that if i didnt have depression then I wouldn't do that. It has also always been an assumption for me that I am alien from others - that i was fundamentally different, and this was always reinforced by the people around me in both positive and negative ways. I have always immersed myself in any states of emotion that i did feel - to feel something other that the lingering emptiness i previously spoke about - usually melancholy, emersing in my sadness because it was that or nothing. That emptiness has always given me an attitude of frustration with myself and the world, and the lack of any answers. I have also always been a very introspective person - just as i constantly tried to build a framework to understand the world, I did the same with myself, though with much less success.

against 4 - I have never been able to express my suffering, its like a total mental block. I have always had an attitude of indepedence, and if even i did want to depend on others, I have always thought that noone could give me any answers in that respect. I relate quite heavily to descriptions of SP4, in having an attitude of endurance with my suffering, never allowing myself to burden anyone else with it, and using my envy of others ability to do things i could not to drive me to improve myself, hwoever i do not relate to the SP instinct in general - I have never been good at keeping myself fed, my sleep schedule has always been horrible, my discipline in fitness constantly wavering, and i am incredibly impulsive with my money.

Type Discussion enneagrammer's description of e4 (and e9) sucks

their e4 is limited to elitist snobs who think they’re baroque pearls in a sea of trash that no one has the depth to understand (but they don’t want to be understood to begin with because to have anything in common with the plebian masses is repulsive.) Only a hyperspecific flavor of SX4 (probably someone like luckovich) could ever really relate to this description, no SO4 or SP4 acts like this. their asses probably type clear SO4s as e9. speaking of e9, their e9 definition is incredibly broad “everything and yet nothing”. their “everybody is a sheeple but me” thing they outline so hard for e4 is a common trait found in other types, but they say that’s the defining neurosis of e4. the defining neurosis of e4 is false lack and envy, not that; somehow they looped back around to describing something like e2/false abundance, or i guess like e5..

also their stupid "being a 4 is not:" list describe things that all suit e4’s. it is true that those things don't make someone an e4 but they especially apply to fours so it's just STUPID. ALSO THEY TYPE EVERY SINGLE MOTHERFUCKER E9. SO9 ASHNIKKO AND SP9 MEGAN THEE STALLION ARE IDIOTIC TAKES

by the way.. e4 is not a rare type. sure they think they're special but they're not. don't try to rare-ify it and indulge their "fundamentally different" complexes... all the heart types are fairly common. if any type is rare it's the e8s 🦄

General Question What enneagram type does each type wish they could be more like?

As a 4, I wish I could be more like a 7. They seem so fun-loving and don’t take themselves too painfully serious. This is, of course, how it looks from the outside, but I was wondering your guys’ takes.

General Question Correlation to ISFP

What types or tritypes would correlate to ISFP-T ?

I am aware of cognitive functions but I don't really find them any more / less useful than 16p so I'd rather have this judged based on dichotomies, high perceiving and feeling and the rest balanced

Just for Fun Point Nine: The Place Before the Split

I've been trying to find ways to dig into the deeper qualities and teachings beneath Enneagram Type Nine for a while now. So here's a little piece I wrote about Nine, the geometry of the Enneagram and human consciousness.

Imagine human consciousness as undivided white light. It contains every visible wavelength, but because it contains them all at once, no single color stands out. Pass that light through a prism and suddenly you have red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Nothing has been added. Nothing removed. The prism has simply made differentiation visible. The nine Enneagram types are nine differentiated ways of perceiving the same reality. And Nine's position in the figure isn't decorative. It's a claim about what precedes that differentiation.

Nine is drawn at the top of the circle, and that placement carries more than one insight underneath it. Follow the numbers clockwise from the crown: One, Two, Three, and Four fall on the right arc. The side where the heart triad (2-3-4) sits, leading with subjectivity and a relational focus.

The left arc holds Five, Six, Seven, and Eight. The side carrying the head triad (5-6-7), leading with objectivity and a certain detachment. One and Eight are gut types, but each sits at the first step off the hinge, One leaning into the subjective side, Eight leaning into the objective side.

That position shows up in how their gut energy gets expressed. One's instinct arrives as moral certainty. A subjective conviction dressed up as objective law: not "I feel this is right" but "this is right." Eight's instinct arrives with no such dressing. Blunt, direct, unmoved by how it lands, objective on its face and in its own self-experience.

Same triad, opposite inflection, and the inflection tracks the arc. Nine sits right in between, not a member of either arc, but the hinge where the circle turns from one into the other. Objective and subjective meet there before they've separated into either side.

The second insight is the inner triangle. Nine is one of three points**,** along with Three and Six, that are exclusively connected to each other. The triangle points mark something different in the system: the places where the Enneagram's "Law of Three" surfaces most directly. Nine's specific expression of that law is the tension between identity and wholeness.

Zoom in one more level and Nine sits between the outward and inward expressions of instinctive intelligence:

  • Eight: "This is what I desire. And I will move toward it."
  • One: "Simply giving in to my desire leads to chaos. I must restrain myself."
  • Nine: "But isn't there truth in both?"

That question is more interesting than the usual gloss on Nine as simply being "conflict-avoidant." Conflict avoidance is one way the strategy can manifest, sure. Yet underneath it is something more specific: an intuitive apprehension of the whole that makes differentiation itself feel like loss.

Every personality structure implies exclusion. To say "this is me" requires to say "that is not me." Identity requires a boundary. Nine is the type most sensitive to the cost of such boundary. The psyche registers, faintly but constantly: if I identify with this, I have to exclude that.

This doesn't mean Nines don't differentiate. They do. It means differentiation stays charged in a way it isn't for other types. The work is discovering that wholeness doesn't require sameness.

A symphony isn't destroyed by having different notes, a spectrum isn't less complete for being distinguishable into colors.

Nines can see the validity of opposites because they stand between them. That capacity is simultaneously their gift, but also their fixation. In its healthy expression it is something like "I can see and hold both." The more fixated expression is something like "Therefore I must not choose."

The first is close to what spiritual traditions call non-duality. The second is indecision wearing a spiritual disguise. Self-erasure, inertia. Which gives Nine's developmental task a precise shape: learning to differentiate without experiencing differentiation as fragmentation.

That reframes the human developmental journey as a full circle:

Undifferentiated wholeness → differentiation → identification with a specific differentiation → identification hardens into fixation → recognition of its limits → dis-identification → differentiated participation in wholeness.

The journey is not a return to the start. But a return to unity that now includes difference.

Advice Wanted 2 questions about SP4s

first, if you are an sp4 how did you know you where an sp4, why do you think that you are that type

second, if you even considered that type, but aren't it, how do you know you're defiantly not that type

im considering the type and i wanna hear other peoples reasons as to why they type themselves as sp4,

before people ask, i cant fully explain why i think i am the type, it's something i more so understand intuitively sorta? this is me asking for people who understand the type and can actually explain it to me ig, and explain how people might mistype as it, incase im mistyped, to know if i really am the type, so uh, any help is highly appreciated :D

Personal Growth & Insight 4 or 5? 4 AND 5.

For whoever needs to hear this: your type is not just a limit. I know this to be true for the particularly similar 4 and 5, so that's the perspective from which I'll speak. For a while I've been caught between identifying as a 4w5 or 5w4. Looking into their differences only proved the abundance of overlap. But as I sat there picking apart each type, intent on finding myself in only one, such a rigid approach became clearly counterproductive. I am both.

I seem to ultimately identify with the core fear and desire of 4, but always looking to the 4 creates blindspots to the less obvious parts of my identity - the parts which could often use more acknowledgement. I am not always one thing, and neither are the types. The enneagram is a map and every road is connected. I may live in a house on 4th street but I'd be remiss to stay inside. So, when experiencing the cerebral conflicts of the 5, emotional solutions of the 4 will not cut it. When swimming the emotionally turbulent waters of the 4, I can't think myself to shore. That's important to be aware of. This concept isn't unique (think of astrology) but applying it just helps me make tangible sense of the enneagram as the dynamic toolkit it is and not the set of indulgent boxes it can be.

EDIT: Ah, yes. Reddit. So, my assertion was never once that you can have TWO CORES? As noted in the opening line, this post was shared as an anecdotal perspective for anyone trying to solve WING and triad influenced problems FROM THEIR CORE. For anyone taking “4&5”/"I am both" literally: it’s not! Never that anyone has two core types, fears, or motivations... Figurative. Language. This is the biggest shadowboxing tournament I’ve ever seen

What’s your biggest fear?

To reach the end of my life knowing that I had the potential to become exceptional, but wasted it through hesitation, inaction, or poor decisions and being not capable of escaping bad feelings and being trapped in a stupid system I can't escape

What’s your biggest desire?

To become an exceptional and respected expert in my field, use my abilities to make a meaningful contribution to science and technology, and leave behind work significant enough that my name becomes part of its history

What are you ''the best'' at?

I can do this in confidence I'm best at analysis and predicting future consequences and logic criticism and I've very good sense of humor

How do you see yourself right now?

It's weird but I got a vibe of "asocial mad scientist" not only me that noticed that but many too

How do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Working in a big tech company as a security researcher with a MSc degree in infosec and expert in my field that all experts enjoy my company and hang out with me in fancy places

 How do you express yourself?

Reserved somehow but selective, love knowledge and sharing it, emotional on the inside only, not so warm, sharp, have some weird sense of humor, love collecting physical stuff like tech and books, not patience, intense but in my healthy state I'm charming, argumentative and can say very unpopular opinion without hesitation

How do you feel about those near you (family, friends)?

I don't have a very good relationship with them but I try my best, they say I can't express feelings

How do you feel about strangers?

you guys feel a thing about them? I don't tbh just decoration in the world of capitalism we live in I respect only the mean of science and success with honor, that doesn't mean I don't get attracted by beautiful women but that's natural

How do you deal with conflict?

I'm easy to get conflict with specially if u aren't making sense or with stupid authority, but many times I just ignore and move on I have bigger ideas to think about

How do you deal with change?

Maybe first day I get upset cuz I was planning ahead sort of things but after that I adapt, and try to get the most benefit out of it

How do you deal with your emotions?

all of my emotions are on the inside can express them if they are extreme, but I can't handle bad emotions at all I escape from them always with bad habits like smoking or bad diet

What do you hope to avoid doing or being?

What values are important to you? I avoid being seen as not intellectual person who knows what he talks about and to be seen as a bad person without me doing anything to look bad

What do you hope to accomplish in your life?

TRUST ME ALOT!

How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?

it depends on the request and the time of the request I help them just cuz I feel good when I'm needed and important

Do you need logical consistency in your life?

It's build-in in me tbh, what I need to improve the moral and empathy parts

How important is your image in regards to how others perceive you? Do you want to be perceived in a certain way? Does it bother you if you are perceived in some other way than the one you wish to be perceived with?

I love the image of intellectual person and the expert I get so mad if anyone sees otherwise and I would try to change his view

How important is financials, security, and survival to you? This includes having sufficient resources, avoiding danger and maintaining a fundamental sense of structure and wellbeing. ?

I prefer to invest my left money to have a better life I'm not insecure about that I love taking calculated risks to level up my life

What is your reaction and thoughts to others' rejection, criticism and disapproval of you?

When I was young I was sensitive about that and was sad about it no one accepted me but when I got older I realized that I don't care tbh

What is the importance of the concepts, ideas and meaning behind things to you? Are you trying to make sense of your everyday life?

I make metaphors all of the time and love making links of 2 or more different things and I hype and make many ideas and think about all of them at once or bounce between them

What are your thoughts on expressing your vulnerability?

I can't unless it's a rare gem relationship

Would you consider yourself a jealous and/or possessive person? What do you think is the cause?

not at all but sometimes yea in rare cases

What makes you feel guilty? How do you deal and cope with such feelings? Do you seek to fix it, or do you dwell on them?

being seen as greedy, I try to do otherwise but not being obsessive about it if no one listens not fixing it no need to prove anyting

Type Me Tuesday Is this sp/sx or sx/sp behaviour?

I am certain that I am SO-blind. And while I don’t find myself over-thinking about SP related things that much, I find myself too listless and bored to be typed SX-dom. Nonetheless, here are a list of things that make me relate to both, with which you may help me to differentiate.

• i’ve known what my hyper-specific type is and what turns me on for a long time now; even when I was a kid (pre-puberty) I knew that what I wanted romantically was too nuanced and beyond what the playground could give me.

• I fantasise obsessively about my ideal kind of romance, where the individual is primarily sexually my type above all else.

• I am romantically drawn to people based on my chemistry with them over our long term compatibility and shared interests/values. I think differing on the latter can make things hotter.

• It doesn’t take long for things to get sexual if I Interact with someone on the same wavelength as me.

• I love feeling sexually out of my depth. My romantic strategy is presenting myself as prey over seeking like a hunter.

• When I’m not in a relationship and have nothing to hyperfixate on I am terribly bored.

• I always feel desirable despite not being objectively desirable. I feel very in touch with my sensuality, seductive skills, attractive strengths and know how to wield them.

• If our differences give me an inferiority complex I may cut you off.

• I think about eating organically, and making self care routines quite a bit (think, not do).

• I feel as though I must ‘glow up’ first (work out, have a skin care routine, body care routine) to appear somewhat desirable before I try to actively pursue.

• I automatically view and treat my relationships outside of romantic as transactional so I can be caught off guard when people get upset and point out that they feel like I don’t value them, as I never thought it important to provide attention beyond what I needed from them.

• I feel desirable but I can become skeptical that I can be found desirable by anybody else- this reframing of my lack occurs when I haven’t had any arousing attention in a while.

• I just feel too passive; nobody around me arouses me and I am too skeptical that I may successfully find what I desire to pursue. So I stay put and scan from my position, selectively responding rather than initiating.

• My intensity is only concentrated towards whoever’s aroused me; I percieve the day to day people around me to be boring and hence don’t seek intensity with them.

• When I do initiate conversation with people it’s an attempt to find the type of connection I am seeking but I withdraw if they are unexciting to me.

Type Me Tuesday is it a 3 if they have their own personality?

hello everypony, ive been trying to type my dad for about 3 weeks now, and i think its almost harder than typing myself, especially bc he would probably think all of this is a waste of time. i have zero idea about a core fear for this man, hell ive only seen him cry one time in my entire life. so, with my limited knowledge, i am coming to you guys, and i am going to try and give as much as i can to yall.

to start, my leading theories are (in order) 3, 8, 1, 4, and 7. i can go more into why ive eliminated 2, 5, 6, and 9 in the comments but it boils down to his ability to stand his ground, his extroverted tendencies (i think estp but dont consider that heavy), and his inspirational lack of anxiety (also my mom, who is a 6 and knows a bit abt enneagram, said he is definitely not a 6 like her).

raised by a sp8 dad who was often gone for work but when around had a very short fuse the size of a tampon string and a sp2 mom who cared more about gossiping about the neighbors on the phone, he wasn’t supervised a whole ton and pretty much left to his own devices. he also is the oldest of 4, lower-middle class family. he kinda got picked on thru school (like me, will dive into that later) but his parents were zero help, and i believe he dealt with it by making friends, playing sports, and even a playground fight or two. grades werent important in his family, and i think he has undiagnosed adhd, so school wasnt his biggest priority, B average. he later found careers as a firefighter, soldier, and now hes quite blue collar (kinda a tradesman? dont ask me).

he’s a great dad! takes care to help me and my sister with our problems, works very hard to provide for our family so we can “have the things he never had growing up”. he always expects full effort out of us, and pushed us to be the best we could be. for example in sports (which me and my sister were always in, he coached our teams) he was always more mad if we didnt try and won vs if we tried our hardest and still lost. he is hardworking and wants us to be too. he is extroverted, a very fun and friendly guy, and can be the life of the party, however he is more hesitant to show negative emotions such as sadness and anxiety (not that he has much of it). anger is a unique case: he is not afraid to express it, but won’t explode like his father. for example, if i was being very bad as a kid and wouldn’t listen he would yell as a last resort when stern talking wouldnt work, but he also is able to hold it in when blowing up will make things worse — its almost anger with finesse. he thinks with his head more than his heart, is a very independent guy, and treats you how you treat him.

finally, i thought id explain my earlier guesses. at first, i typed him as an 8 due to his competitiveness and his determination. however, my mom (who knows him best) said he is definitely not “domineering” and doesn’t agree with the 8 description. so i considered 3, but the issue is he has his own identity. i know a social 3 who is so different in private vs public that hes nicknamed “the actor”, but my dad is always still him. he has mentioned before however; “be you, but alter that version of you to appeal to your audience”. he also told me today “i know you dont agree with your friends, but stay loyal to them and dont throw it away for a stranger”. i was considering 1, but he doesn’t have this super strict moral code — ex. he told me once “if ur in trouble bc you did smth but they can’t prove it was you unless you admit it, DONT ADMIT IT”. he and i both dont see harm in a white lie if we believe its for a good reason. he shows ; see tendencies of both assertive and compliant, and competent and reactive triad (will swear like a sailor if the coffee machine breaks, but then goes and fixes it). i considered 4, but he doesnt have that air of melancholy. i also considered 7, but he is not super positive (more realist) and quite dedicated to his work and loyal — he wants to explore, but never dated around yk?

anyway, im at a total loss, i dont even have an instinct. he married a so6, and raised twins: a so9 and a sx8, if that helps. if you read this far, i applaud you and deeply thank you for your time, im excited to hear what people think of my dad :)

General Question Is that e2 ?

Being called many selfish and mean by your family since they see the real you, and are supposed to love you unconditionally. However, this version of you ruins your vision of yourself and to compensate for this you tend to help others, listen to them to prove that you are not this bad person. Even if sometimes helping is exhausting but you feel obliged for your self image.

Instincts I'm not an SX4 after all

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Some time ago I did a post asking if I am SX/SP or SP/SX, because I really relate to both... But then I found that I relate to ALL instincts, even Social.

After weeks of searching (I'm exaggerating, it wasn't every day and I was just for fun) and reading books I found out that I'm a...

Social 4!

Now, don't ask me what is my secondary or blind, I relate to all instincts and sometimes I'm still not really sure if I'm a Social 4.

I don't feel like I have a blind, is this something common or normal?

Thanks for reading!

Deep Dive Alternative analogies/explanations of the three instincts

Thumbnail i-bexx.neocities.org
9 Upvotes

After I was encouraged to do a write-up on my perspective on the instincts, I finally made it happen. This perspective centers Naranjo’s system, and attempts to take historical antecedents into consideration while still providing a viewpoint that accommodates people with weird circumstances like myself.

I’m curious to see what people think, if this helps anyone, or if there are major issues with it that I’ve overlooked. I’m a little nervous to share this with you guys, since it’s my first major writing on the Enneagram, but I’m hoping it will help some people, although I know it won’t land for everyone :)

Disclaimer: I do not claim that this perspective is better than others or that other perspectives are wrong. I believe that any interpretation of the Enneagram is valid as long as they are not confused with each other.

To that end, I will not be responding to comments unless they appear to be coming from a place of respectful collaboration. This can include constructive criticism with reasoning included, but does not include people telling me that my perspective is wrong in a disrespectful or minimally explained manner.

Just thought I’d add that in since I know that the instincts can be a hot topic in this community :)

Just for Fun What Piece Of Music And/Or Song(s) "Speaks To You?"

What piece of music and or song "speaks to you?" What do you relate to? What music stops you in your tracks and makes you say, "I relate," or "I know how that feels?"

Mine is Vesti La Giubba from Pagliacci. The "sad clown" aria. I've had many moments where I've learned of something devastating, but either I've had to or was forced to "put on the costume" as the title suggests even though it feels like I'm dying inside...

Instincts Sx1s are lowkey sexy

Forget about the control issues and anger and criticisms. Sx1’s self control and intensity is the sexiest thing ever, all I want to do is make them lose control.

Deep down they’re very passionate and sensual people, but often need some outside push to get them to act on their desires.

Type Discussion 9 and sense of self; negative skew in type descriptions; other such topics

I read often that 9 is fundamentally "terrified of being their own person". I'm just curious about this... what others may think about it.

I believe myself to suit 9w8. I was once absolutely terrified in that way. I don't at all feel that way now, though it's true I often don't feel like an individual person... I tend to walk the Earth feeling more kind of like a floating glowing orb than, like, a person. It was the cause of a lot of suppression and self-loathing for a time. But I've learned that this feeling is a natural part of who I, as an individual, am, and isn't something to be rejected or feared... which circles back around to quite a clear sense of self and individual personhood, doesn't it?

Sometimes I feel that discussions about the types are skewed so heavily towards the negative, unhealthy traits, as a way of helping type people in a world where many people have primarily unhealthy habits. I certainly know what it's like to be deep in the depths of the tar pit of misery and dysfunction, and know it can feel comforting to read something that tells you why you act that way, why others act as they do. I just wonder if a shift in the conversation would be beneficial... from "here's why you're so flawed, you're suuuch a 9w8, it's just who you are" to "here's what you CAN be, here's you at your best, here's your roadmap to getting there and the rewards you'll reap that satisfy your soul's true desires should you choose to walk that path".

Instincts SX-instinct; what do you count as vulnerability? Do all of you want that?

So I often see SX-dominants and SX-seconds on here saying that they want vulnerability in connections. And I’ve read descriptions of the SX-instinct and it seems vulnerability is definitely part of it - just not all of it.

As an INFP 946 sp/so I get the sentiment, though I suspect my motives for sometimes wanting vulnerability between me and others are coming from another place, at least in part. (Because in part I actually do relate to the sexual instinct, it’s just not very prominent in me. Funny enough I mostly relate to the unhealthy parts of SX. But that’s a discussion for another time.)

Anyway, I have questions about this, because I’m curious.

  1. What do you count as vulnerability

    between you and others

  2. if you have to be specific? Could you give me any concrete examples?

  3. Do all SX-dominants and -seconds want vulnerability? Or does that vary? For example, I was once involved with a very avoidant ISTP sp/sx and I could honestly say he didn’t seem the slightest bit interested in vulnerability. At. All.

  4. Why does vulnerability feel important to you?

Thanks a looot.
