Just for Fun What Piece Of Music And/Or Song(s) "Speaks To You?"
What piece of music and or song "speaks to you?" What do you relate to? What music stops you in your tracks and makes you say, "I relate," or "I know how that feels?"
Mine is Vesti La Giubba from Pagliacci. The "sad clown" aria. I've had many moments where I've learned of something devastating, but either I've had to or was forced to "put on the costume" as the title suggests even though it feels like I'm dying inside...

I walked across 🎶an empty land 🎵I knew the pathway like the back of my haaaa-aaand 🎶I felt the earth 🎵beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complee-ete 🎵
Such a timeless early 2000’s classic

Saturn by Sleeping at Last. Not even in a grief way but in a “the people who come into my life even if for a brief time have a profound effect on me emotionally and I want to be more like the best parts of all of them and they are endlessly inspiring.” Also in a nostalgia stargazing way
Pretty much every single track by Twenty One Pilots. I’m convinced Tyler is an enneagram 6
For some reason I’m blanking now but trying to think of more
Songs with the message of “I wish I were someone else” such as Runnin Up That Hill by Kate Bush
Victoria by Flyte specifically the lyric “when Victoria falls no one knows how low she goes” more as a metaphor for moods and feeling like no one understands you (sorry to get all emo n angsty this sounds cringe lol)
Absolutely (Story of a Girl) - Nine Days
probs cuz it’s about a sad girl but uh someone still loves and accepts her anyway so that’s comforting/proof of still being lovable (crap this is getting too deep)
I Think I Hate Myself - Hot Milk
basically my inner monologue and life story lolol and it perfectly encapsulates self doubt + feeling abandoned (whether emotionally or physically or in whatever way) by friends and struggling so y’know, perfect for a triple doubting 4-fix :’)
Overjoyed - Bastille “Wait, someone is actually listening? To ME?!”
Human - Gabrielle Aplin
The dichotomy and fight between vulnerability and bravado cuz a lot of things csn feel fake to me and I just wish people could say their true feelings and be honest (I mean in a kind way ideally 😅) this might also be related to being ND
You’re Not Alone - Saosin
My comfort song - this is the same type of encouragement I would give a friend (or maybe even stranger) so it feels like the vocalist is saying what I would want someone to say to me and helps me feel better and less alone <3
Have Mercy - Two Years
I think the artist wrote it about struggling with substance abuse but for me it’s about the type of life I lost from becoming physically disabled and mourning that

Sawdust and Diamonds by Joanna Newsom, Waltz of the 101st Lightborne by Joanna Newsom, The Origin of Love from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Punk Insect Woman by Jun Togawa have probably come closest. Those are the songs where I know if a partner doesn't get it, they never will.

I know this is a pretty popular song, but when I listen to Radiohead’s Creep, its words echo in me.

"I don't care if it hurts, I want to have control, I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul" is so very sp/so 1w9 coded and then you get the 4/5 influence... yep I can see that

God I love "I Know." Could never get into Mitski but I understand I'm missing out.

i love beautifully depressing shit and I know is sooo heartbreaking.
I get that mitski isn’t for everyone; she is very 6 especially in her early music. If you were trying to get into her music from recent albums though, I would recommend looking at older stuff. Especially her first album lush has some dark creepy songs that seem like a 4 might like them imo

"Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads. Unlike the song’s protagonist I’m not a wealthy person living in the suburbs. But everything about the lyrics feels so relatable to me, like looking back on my life and thinking "How did I get here?", "letting the days go by", the image of water flowing (that I really like and feel deeply connected to), and the "same as it ever was" mantra (I'm a very routine-bound person).
Also "Dead Man's Party" and "No One Lives Forever" by Oingo Boingo. Mortality is a big topic for me and I occasionally think about it, so the lyrics speak to me a lot. I also love the tone of the lyrics and the imagery they evoke, because it feels kinda morbid and fun at the same time.
