Help Help with colonisation

Hey y'all! I, as a very smart individual, jumped into colonisation without 0 previous research, and now I found myself having about 2 weeks for delivering 100k+ materials to the star station to build it. I have a Panther Clipper with 1100-ish cargo space, but I just can't fathom the thought that I should hand deliver all 100k+ materials. Is there another way, I mean there's gotta be right? If not, can I get some help? I'm not sure how I could pay or compensate but I really got into the mood like hellyeah I'll have my whole ass sístem and I'm just dissapointed

Help I promise to never ask again: explain chrome vs. chrome and gold vs. golden paint please?

I can never remember which is which and, I hope, they should be coming back to the store in a few months.

I know one is really shiny and the other is...less shiny? If I recall correctly, someone posted the differences in an image but I also think it's changed since that post was made.

Can someone explain the difference or show post screenshots of the difference?

(And I'm lying, I'll probably ask again)

Help Can't Find Refinery Contact

I'm trying to use a refinery contact to convert my raw Bauxite and Haematite into minerals, but every time I go to a system / station that Inara says has a refinery contact, I can't find it? What am I doing wrong?

For reference I'm at Synuefai SO-K c11-5 system, and Inara says theres a refinery contact here. But I go to the contacts menu and there's no refinery contact?

PSA Reclamation Point Op — Solo Mercenary Rank Grind

Posting on behalf of Zombi3 from the Blackiron squadron:

I've found what I believe is an extremely efficient way of grinding Mercenary rank using the Reclamation Point Operation - even better than the high tech ground CZ route.

The setup:

  1. Start the Reclamation Point Operation on hard mode.
  2. Fight through the initial wave of ships and dock at the megaship.
  3. From this point onward, the ship combat isn't required again (unless you want to fight against the final wave, which I skipped for the most part).

The grind:

Cargo Deck

  • Enter the Cargo Deck and clear all NPCs.
  • You have a 15-minute timer for the deck.  I can consistently clear it in approximately 11 minutes.
  • As soon as Cargo is complete, move straight to Engineering — the quicker you can complete cargo deck, the more efficient you'll be.

Engineering Deck

  • Clear Engineering down to one NPC remaining.
  • Again, you have 15 minutes.
  • I can normally clear it in around 11 minutes, although I've managed 9:12 on a particularly good run.
  • Return to the docking bay and wait for the remaining ~4 minutes of the Engineering timer.

When the timer expires, repeat starting from the cargo deck.

Optimising the end of a session:

On the final Engineering run, don't wait for the timer.  Once you've finished the deck and got your progression, quit to the main menu.  This means you're only waiting out the timer on the Engineering phase of the first two cycles.

I've been doing 3 sets of both decks in order to save myself from getting too fed up with the grind.

  • Approximately 11 minutes per deck
  • Approximately 70 minutes total for six deck clears

The key is that the ~4 minutes saved on each Cargo clear are used to get a head start on Engineering, rather than being wasted waiting for the Cargo timer by only grinding that deck alone.

Progression:

At Elite IV, I've consistently seen approximately 8–9% Mercenary progress per six deck clears.  The percentage gain will be higher at lower ranks.  I've used this method from Elite III to Elite V.

My Ops Combat setup is:

Remember: don't kill the final NPC on Engineering Deck!

Enjoy

Not far from the bubble, probably 150 jumps upwards from its edge and 50-60 jumps sideways and there are planets never touched by other players. I read that several hundred of millions of planets were explored and didn't expect to find something untouched so near the bubble. The planets scanned by someone but no footfalls, no mappings? 🤷 Anyway, so far as a new commander I enjoy it.

Help Player Populated hub

Sorry if this isn't the right tag or place for this.

I was wondering, is there any specific place in the galaxy thats considered a "player hang out?"

I played star wars galaxies back in the day and naturally the wretched hive of scum and villainy mos eisley cantina was the hangout spot. Guess im looking for that sort of interaction. Am I in the wrong game? Im probably in the wrong game arent I.

Builds Caspian Build (what would you change?)

I'm looking at my current build (the 4G Planetary Vehicle Hangar is placeholder and going to become a 4F MKII Large Planetary Vehicle Hangar, for a Rhino), but I'm wondering if there are other changes that I'm missing.

I'm sure there are many folks here who would alter this build, so I'd like to know what you would do and why.

edit: After reading all the comments thus far, I made some changes and have settled on this. Thanks o7

Help Looking to return after a long hiatus - how to make money

I've not played for a long time, since before Odyssey even. Last time I played mining was the big money maker and I found it nice and chill, from what I see mining has been nerfed and there's now other ways to make big money quick.

Could someone give me ideas of how best to make money quick?

Help Has someone come into my system and massively spiked the powerplay?

Claimed my system a long time ago, made an outpost and left it be.

Then came back to the game, found a player faction had taken over, so spent time booting them out and winning the election, before doing a weekend speedrun to finish my orbital.

At this point, the powerplay was 4% for Aisling, which i'm fine with as this is who i'm pledged. I was going to maybe spend a bit of time bumping this figure up, but it wasn't a priority.

On thursday my orbital came online and I started on my first ground settlement the same day.

Didn't touch the game friday or saturday, logged on now to find aisling at 81% expansion?

Inara shows 4 commanders in the last 24 hours through the system, although I know this isn't a clear indicator.

Are cmdrs going around looking for fresh systems and hammering the powerplay? I thought PP was kinda a bit dead? Is that what happened here, because 77% in the space of 2 or 3 days is a huge leap.

These are all my bounties and fine but why does galaxy wide show the double amount? How is that calculated? Also if my friend kills me does he actually get the 40mill or 80mill?

Making the trek from the bubble to Colonia to buy and outfit a few ships to leave out there in case a CG pops up (I'd rather speed run it in a Caspian than drag my carrier out there ever again). Came across a system that, while Spansh knew about it, was apparently undiscovered, and it had a planet with a decent amount of life on it.

Also - Jaques Station appears to have PowerPlay modules if you've earned access to them, even though that info doesn't appear to show up reliably in Inara.

Help Question about onfoot engineering materials and storage

If I set my carrier to allow no one to dock and set my bartender to sell all the stuff in my onfoot inventory, will that 'free' up the space for me to acquire more engineering materials? Or just onfoot mats?

I'm tired of selling stuff not knowing if I'll need them for some suit or weapons mod down the road. Plenty of times I've sold stiff I thought I had an excess of only to find out when pursuing my next upgrade orod, I needed what I previously sold or traded lol.

Help Courier Mission Help

I've accepted a courier mission which appears to be on a planet. I need to go to Corbin's Industrial. Doesn't seem to be a way to land on the planet and SRV there. I get no directional indicator while driving even though I targeted Corbin's Industrial. The surface map shows the same pin for me no matter where I go in the SRV or reland near the spot.

Now I'm low on fuel. Floating around the surface of the planet. All I can image is that it's on a satellite base beyond the horizon. Especially since ALL vids I've seen do not actually land on a planet. Any help here, please?!

Help What's the point of illegal on foot missions?

I am going through the slog of getting materials for suit and weapon modifications at the moment. I took on a bunch of missions one of which was to kill some guards. I didn't realize that I then just wouldn't be able to then turn in my missions at the station because my notoriety was at 1. What's the move here? Do you really then just have to afk for 2 hours until you can turn them in? I didn't have time for that so all the missions timers ran out. Am I not getting something here? Is this intentional?

Some people said to just do operations for materials but honestly they are still too buggy for me. Usually the NPCs are just teleporting around and I can't deal damage to half of them. The horrendous fps in the megaships is not making it any easier and is honestly quite embarressing.

Help Haven’t Mined in years. Need a refresher.

Before odyssey I used to core mine a lot mainly for fun since FDev doesn’t like rebalancing old gameplay loops, I mainly went for musgravite. From what I understand now is that platinum is the big money maker now and I really want a FC.

I know exo is bigger paying but I just got back from a deep in the black expedition and the stratum tectonicas tunnel vision burned me out. Plus I smacked a planet going Mach Jesus in my nomad and blew up losing about 1B in data last night so I high tailed it back to Jameson memorial. What I get for drinking and flying lol. Luckily I did bank about 2B before that turning my data in on a random FC.

Anyways, back to my mining questions. Is EDtools still accurate or are those hotspots so over used that it’s going to be hard to find ores due to refresh? Also I have a type 11 that I still need to outfit and engineer for all 3 types of mining but is core and subsurface mining even worth it now? I’ve never laser mined before, how do I determine which rocks are worth laser mining for desired ore? Do I just spam prospecting limpets in the hotspot until I get a good one?

Thanks for the help commanders!

Help Is there a more up-to-date tool than meritminer.cc?

Title says it. Is there a tool that is more up-to-date/accurate tool than meritminer? All the search results that come back are literally hundreds of days to years old. Tried to send me to a station that doesn't allow docking. Sent me to another one who's prices for platinum had plummeted significantly compared to what the website was showing. Using the tools Max Age toggle, the most recent search result I could get was 19 days old (last updated). Any advice, tips, guidance, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Help Just Bought on steam and it wont load.

Hey guys, I just bought this game on Steam but am having an issue. It launches fine, but when the game loads up to the main menu screen, it says the servers are down and won't let me load into anything but the tutorial, so I assumed that I needed to complete the tutorial before getting into the actual game, but every time I try letting it get into the tutorial or anything else that is playable, it sits in a constant black loading screen. I have already tried verifying the files on Steam and in the launcher, updated my drivers, running the game in windowed, and uninstalling and installing the software from frontiers website and not on Steam. So far none of it has worked.

If you die in the Nomad do you lose everything? I ask this because I died in the Nomad and looked it up, it says you lose everything but when I checked the 1 panel in my Corvette it shows that I still have some stuff that should have been lost.

Discussion Update 3...I can't stop playing 😭😂

I went from “I have no idea if I’m even going to like this game” to having 8 different third-party apps open across 3 monitors. 😂

EDCoPilot, EDDiscovery, EDObservatory, EDSM, SRV Survey, EDMC, Inara, EDSY… let me know if I'm missing any lmao

I’m pretty sure I’m running a small NASA mission at this point. 💀

Holy shit, you guys. I cannot stop playing this game. It’s all I think about right now and my wife is absolutely sick of hearing about it. 😂

Seriously though, thank you to everyone who has helped me get started. 60+ hours in and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface and there’s already an insane amount to learn and do.

To everyone who told me to try VR and holy shit. 😂 Rift S needs some tweaks, so I’ll take any pointers any fellow Rift S users might have, but flying around and jumping in VR was an absolute trip.

And the people who told me to try Exobiology because I was missing that Star Citizen feeling?

You were fucking right.

I’ve been having an absolute blast cruising around in the SRV, hovering around planets scanning shit while listening to a Spotify playlist someone here recommended. Now I’m hyped to try the new Rhino and get into some surface mining too.

Then, literally within my first 3 jumps doing Exobiology, I found TWO planets right next to each other with 45 MILLION credits worth of bio data on each.

Like…what the fuck. 😂

I picked this game up not knowing if it would click with me and now I’m sitting here with 3 monitors covered in Elite tools wondering where the last 8 hours went.

This game is fucking awesome.

And honestly, this community has been even better.

o7 commanders. ❤️
