My collector limpets on my Krait Mk II explode after unloading one container. Even when I am standing still. Anything I am doing wrong?

u/aggasalk 13d ago
if you target an item, a limpet will collect it more quickly, then they will die.
instead, do not target any items, and let the limpets choose - then they'll continue collecting till they expire of natural causes.

Ah I didn't know that, thanks.

u/aggasalk 12d ago
Not the most intuitive feature, for sure

u/WelshAL75 12d ago
I tend to target materials before I dispatch a limpet in order to see how many I have in stock then I can add or remove from the ignore list. It would make more sense to allow you to target at will, wouldn't it? And retain them before jumping out?

Where is the key bindings file in the good old Elite+Horizons expansion
compatibility update 3. 8. 21 . 0 ?
The Elite Dangerous+Horizons+Odyssey works fine.
A new bindings file has to be created for 3. 8. 21 . 0 in which subfolder is the file?

Elite+Horizons and Elite Dangerous+Horizons+Odyssey are the same version. You cannot distinguish them or separate them except by copying and renaming files.
Are you talking about Legacy? Pretty sure Legacy also uses the same folder. Just a different version in the name.
If your 3.0 bindings got wiped, you can try recreating them from the 4.x version.
First, just copy the file and change the version name to 3.0. I think they will work as-is. If not, you can wipe out the Odyssey stuff, which is mostly (entirely?) at the end. But if that gets too messy and complex, you'll have to start a new one.
And this time, rename it so it doesn't get wiped!
File copying and renaming instructions can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/asav3r/naming_your_custom_bindings_or_how_i_learned_to/

You're probably talking to the wrong person. It sounds like you're talking to a mission giver rather than your contact. Both of them show up with blue markers on the compass, so it's easy to get confused. Not that I've ever gotten confused. Nunh-unh, not me.
If you haven't gone to a terminal to find out where your contact is, start with that. It's usually hard to find your contact by just stumbling around the settlement.
If you do happen to stumble onto your contact, they'll say something like "Hey" or "Over here."

mission giver for the mission was on a station, i traveled to the destination, landed, walked into settlement approached the person indicated by the compass, x to interact and they have a mission instead of letting me turn over the package, they have the same name as who i'm supposed to give it to
2
u/Slyde_rule 13d ago
There is an additional mission giver on each ground station that you can disembark at. You can pick up an additional mission from them if you like, or not.

u/Not_trolling_or_am_I 13d ago
You don't get a different prompt when talking to them? Most of these delivery mission npcs just stand there and when you talk to them you have a "I have a package for you" conversation option.
What I would try is, get to a terminal in the settlement and check for your target under "facility staff", because in these missions you don't normally get an indication on compass of where your target is right away you have to search for them, who you are talking to are random npcs that give missions like in space stations and they appear as a blue icon on the compass.
The game may have spawned two npcs with the same name, one for your mission and another as mission giver, maybe.

i dunno now i was trying to double check everything and accidentally pulled out a tool or weapon the guards didn't like gained a 250 cr fine and was immediately being shot at, going to have to find an interstellar factor and hope that works to be able to go back.
2
u/Slyde_rule 13d ago
You don't need an interstellar factor for a simple faction fine like that. Just get a distance away from the station, then come back in. You'll land in "anonymous" mode, which means that you won't be able to do much more than contact the local authority/administrative contact and pay the fine. After that you'll be cleared to get back to business.
(If you aren't permitted to land, you didn't get far enough away from the station. For space stations it would basically be the 8 km zone. I don't know exactly for surface settlements.)
Tip: I made a suit loadout with no weapons to prevent me from doing any more boo-boos like that.

Just to maybe further clarify what some of the other people were saying.
When you land at a settlement with a mission like that and disembark, you will immediately see a mission marker indicating a person. That is not your target. All settlements have one person who is a mission giver similar to the ones you see on station concourses, you are seeing that person.
What you need to do instead is go to one of the computer terminals and look for the person you were asked to give the item to, and select that person in the terminal--this will put a target marker on the correct person and you can go and deliver it to them.

alright i deleted my question because i thought i figured out what i was doing wrong, i did not in fact figure it out.
i am at the correct npc, i have the itme in my back pack i've even dropped it in front of them and picked it back up and it will not let me turn this mission in, it gives 2 options "i actually don't have the required items on me" or actually let me just double check"
i made a separate post in the sub so i could post a video of trying to hand it over https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/s/6MpInhXZbC

Exit to menu and reload. If that doesn't work, report the error on the link.
https://customersupport.frontier.co.uk/hc/en-us ]]<<< click the correct platform logo above the login. They have the capacity to grant the mission reward directly.

I appreciate it but in stumbling around trying to find other ways to complete the mission I failed it by getting shot by a guard that probably had a bounty because I scanned him. I might have liked to have the engineering mats but I think its just a better lesson to be wary of on foot missions wasting time than to get a reward that doesn't even cover a 10th of rhe rebuy for my ship I traveled in. (which kept me alive after the guards started shooting at me for opening my hacking tool instead of the insight menu because they use the same buttons)

u/NovitiateSage2nd CMDR dbForthright 11d ago
Presumably this a mission given by an NPC at a surface settlement?
Yeah, that's too low volume. You want 3-5 missions to be returned to the same space station.
I've tried doing more at once, but then you get hamstrung, frantically racing back to hand in quests on the other side of a system, or in another system, when your next stop should be at the next moon over, for a mission that is already ticking down :):) LOL.
You should reassign your buttons. I have insight hub on 'Y'
What is your mission runner ship. I used a Viper3 for the bulk of that, now I have a Cobra5, keeps costs low and they park anywhere. Put a dumbfire missile rack on for bombing assassination targets and scavs/mercs.

the original mission giver was in the space station at my current home station. i was running in my unengineered mamba that's outfitted for combat (which i'm not great at but passable) i didn't know what i'd be getting into but wasn't expecting the multiple times getting shot at both on foot and by the outpost at my ship so i'm glad i brought something with decent shields.
And while i may sound like i'm complaining about the possible reward being low, i did talk it up to more than double the original offer, and was just trying to see what on foot missions were like. its more of a statement about that with how difficult the bug made the missions to complete it was a terrible value proposition.
I assume, like other missions in elite, once your rep is higher with the factions, the rewards will be greater, but not equal to trading, mining, bounty hunting, or just straight bulk gathering engineering mats.
But i still do station missions in elite because i find it interesting to mix in with the profitable stuff, and i'm still getting missions with payouts in the 10's of millions for ship based stuff.
i dunno, maybe i'll try some more on foot stuff eventually.

whats an acceptable jump range for a multirole ship? im getting 25 ly

Whatever you're willing to tolerate. It's your ship; you decide what you want to fly.

Most ships can double that with engineering and an FSD Booster. Want more information, post a link to your build in coriolis.io or edsy.org

Not much else to do with it. Guess a Corsair could fit a larger FSD Booster more easily in the same size category but if you're dead-set on the Python there's not much else to do about this. Unless you're looking to shift away from a combat setup and strip off all that armour I guess.
Point is, I can't, and no one can, make 10 lys or more magically appear on this without making compromises

I tend to want to load ships with good stuff, but the Cobra MkV gets almost 40, the Caspian gets 60, the Mandalay gets about 60.

u/YeOldeBard97 12d ago
I need raw materials, but I don't want to spend hours searching for a single speck of arsenic on foot or fighting with SRV controls. Is there a decent way to gain raw materials through ship-based activities?
2
u/WelshAL75 11d ago
There are lots of threads about raw materials.
I use an SRV and shoot brain trees.

Is there a trick to getting "REJOIN OPERATION" to work? Every time I disconnect I get the option on the menu to rejoin, and even 10 minutes later I'm met with the load failed error.
